Just wanted to say "Thank You" again for this excellent video and your detailed knowledge. I duplicated your wiring setup and was able to troubleshoot my wiper motor on the bench and found the problem was the "park switch". You saved me many hours and dollars! I was able to clean up the park switch with electronic cleaner and it is going to "park" once again.
OUR 76 Trans Am we just got had a toggle switch for the wipers. I got a couple switches off Ebay and your wiring diagram is a great help to me. I got it to move the wipers about 2 inches and then they stop and never move again. Working on it.
I'm a french owner of a 1975 camaro and i have several things to do on it. Thank you for your video, very clear, it helped me to make my wipers work again😉👍
You should have been with us back in the late 80's replacing those switches, we got to learn the hard way of which switch went to what year of Camaro.. When the switches started going bad on mine and my friends Camaro's we went to the local junkyards and it was a lot of fun getting the right one out of the same year car in rural Ohio, the fan switches were fun also because they always went bad in the '70-'81 model and those were fun to replace also. Good memories, thanks Russ!!
It wasn't that bad Russ, what was nice that my friends and I had different year cars so we had an idea about the smaller differences in them.. Me too my friend, the days of going down to the local buy here pay here and picking them up for less then a grand are long gone
Thanks for doing this video it will be a great help to the community. Our cars are rare enough now that just collecting the wiper switches to do this would be difficult.
That is one reason I had so many switches, I had been collecting them for awhile. It had always been a confusing circuit for me. I hope it helps others. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video 👍. Just started Working on my wipers on my 78 T-top camaro, don’t know if the switch or motor is not working. I have power at the wiper fuse . Is there a wiring diagram for the wipers so I can chase and trace? Thanks for any help 👍
Timmy, Sorry I don't happen to have a schematic. There are a few good ones on google images that may help. You could always take it out of the car and bench test it.
Are those other switches a direct replacement that will work in place of the OEM switch that they no longer make and if so what is the part number for the one that does delay? Thanks for all your help. Dave
Dave, I don't have any experience with the units that have delay. I think you can make most of all these switches work with the correct wiring configuration. Thanks.
Another awesome video that helps me out tremendously. So it looks like you can use any switch with the hidden wiper motor and the motor will still park the wiper blades?? Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to make this great video. Can you tell me what could cause wipers to be stay running even with switch off? Mine are pulse type in a 79 with the squirt pump in the motor assembly. They started running all the time and wont stop.
I have never had any experience with a wiper system with pulse wipers. If the motor is similar to a regular one, it must go back to low speed before it can park. I guess it possible that it could be the switch, the motor or internal wiring. I would probably pull the motor and bench test it.
Any diagnostic info on the pulse delay system? 78-79. Switch #14001502. Mine runs with key on won't shut off, new seven terminal motor installed. Squirters want to run and it stays in high speed. Switch to high and it goes to low speed. No apparent shirts to ground in the harness.
Wipers in my 77 Firebird would not shut off. Prolonged voltage drops and instrument light flashing insanity. Then the diagrams and teaching you provided inspired me to jump the ground in the switch over to the body. Problem solved. Thank you for sharing your expertise. MT

Thanks, this video really helped with a total rewire of a 1980 Camaro. Same '549 switch as your '81. Testing with an ohmmeter, it seems a little shaky in the Low speed position (not reliable continuity). You mentioned having rebuilt some of these switches. Any chance you have a video on that, or one you like? Looking at mine, first thought is it would be easy to break the tabs holding it together. Thanks!
I don't have a vid on rebuilding the switch, but the one I rebuilt was pretty straightforward. Just be careful not to break the clips and when you first open, try to be as gentle as possible, not to lose the orientation of the parts inside. I hope it helps
Good morning friend, I would like to ask you a question. Have you worked with the GM 7835342 wiper switch? My case is the following. I have a 1982 Chevrolet Malibu and it uses that switch but I really can't get it to work. The wiper motor is generic, and I've already managed to identify the fast speed, slow speed, the positive, the negative, and the switch. and still can't get it to work. I would really appreciate your help my friend. greetings and a big hug from Venezuela and forgive my bad English.
Hey there, sorry, just saw this. Did you get it to work? I don't have any experience with that switch, but it should just switch the ground side of the circuit starting at low speed, then high, most motors have to go back to low speed before they can park. I hope it helps
Hey, I have a 1980 Camaro without pulse wiper switch that doesn't work. It's exactly the same as your #549. I haven't been able to find a new replacement. Any idea where I could get something that would fit? I can find used replacements online but they could be just as bad as the switch I have. Also, any idea what I'd need to do to convert my wipers to pulse? Thanks
I have no experience with the pulse. I feel like it was a rare option on these cars. It is a completely different switch/motor. As for replacements, most likely you will have to go with a donor part. Sometimes you can find them on eBay with a 30 day money back option
Okay so I a 72 w/hidden wipers. Every switch you used seemed to put the wiper motor in "park". Am I looking at that wrong? It is near impossible to find a 72 hidden wiper switch and I am told the "standard" switch will not work. I have a t/a switch that I was told will work but I just wanted your humble advice before I mess up anything. Thanks for the video!
It probably will work. I would take an ohm meter and see what the pin out of the switch is. Most likely it will be the same as one of the switches in the vid. You could always bench test it before trying it in the car. Your only switching the ground side of the circuit, so you should be safe from messing anything up. Basically the motor goes into low speed before it can go into high, then it must go back into low before it can park. Hope it works for you and you are correct, the hidden wiper switches are difficult to find.
Thanks James. I learned alot on this video. I had a few vids on this subject where I was trying to help a fellow RUclipsr with his car and those led to this video.

@James Miles From memory, the wiper motor has to go back to low speed before it can park. Sometimes it's worth bench testing. Also make sure the motor has a good ground
If my wipers won't turn off (147 switch), do you think it is in the Switch or at the motor? I heard you mention about a resistor on the motor assembly for the park mechanism. Thanks for the help.
It's definitely worth checking. You can take them apart and clean them. You just have to take your time and reapply some dielectric grease. The stuff hardens up after several of years. It could be something at the motor ad well.
Thanks for the video- Can you tell me the wiring colors and where they go on a 131 switch? It has 5 wires total. Dark blue-Light blue-small black-large black-black with eyelet hole. Thanks for any help

Thanks for the video! Helped me to understand few things and confirm my 128-switch is most likely broken. I know it is of course wrong, but I wonder if anyone making bigger modifications to their old Camaro has updated the whole switch to something more modern and relocated it from the dashboard. I would like something I can reach with my fingers from the steering wheel. My 72 Camaro has lot of new tech installed by the previous owners including a 2001 Corvette engine. It had also already a separate button for the washer added by the previous owner and it did not work even though the motor for wipers and washer was new. As I could not make the washer work and I prefer the washer to work continuously as long as I press a button, I already bypassed the pump and replaced with a modern pump. Motor for the wipers can stay original, but I am thinking if I could find a more modern and still good looking switch from some other car and replace the original one that is broken. I am currently making a new dashboard so this could be done at the same time maybe. Maybe I buy some used one and modify it to resemble the signal light switch. How to attach it to the base of the steering wheel remains open... but yeah, I wonder if anyone else has tried this before.
