- I take a close look at the Case 6.5 BoneStag GunStock Jack Knife; with a comparison to my BoneStag Bartender knife. I also correct an error made in the earlier Bartender Video.
I have a 6.5 Gunstock and while it’s practically useless from a usage standpoint bc of the overly huge sweges it’s one of the most beautiful knives I have Thanks for showing it Tobias
Case did a great job on this bone stag, and the oval stamp works nicely in the design, beautiful knives.
Thank you as always for making videos sharing your knife collection. I have 3 Bone Stag Case knives, 2 I got from a local store that had them on clearance (Teardrop & Sodbuster Jr) & a Junior Scout knife. The date discrepancy is something I've run into with cars also, I had a '64 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 200 cubic inch inline 6. The car was made in March or April of '64, but the engine block casting was dated October or November of '63.
Great Show always love seeing Case knives!!
It was a real treat getting to see this knife, buddy. It's gorgeous! I've got two bonestag knives in my collection so far, a russlock and a mini trapper with a wharncliffe instead of a spey. I'm thinking this pattern may have to be bonestag number three for me, it's a really nice looking pattern. Cheers!
Bone stag makes and knife look great . It just is class .
Woow that is an amazing beauty Tobias! The difference in the bone stag is very noticable between the bastender and the gunstock jack, but both are very attractive. The fact that the different sides are not the same milled plates is a pro. Case amazes me over and over again with their beautyfull bone handles. In my eyes the best in the branche. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us.
IMO Case does a better job with stag, bone, wood, than any other company, including GEC. I especially think Case Stag is better than GEC.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Not to mention for nicer prices then GEC and easier to get your hands on.
Love your videos. I enjoy the education the most, stunning knives!
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the channel
I always clean every new Case knife with CLP and compressed air, it really improves the action.
I do like the newer stag bone, and have a couple like that, but I’d say the older one looks more like real stag.
The number one attraction with Case knives, for me, is the fondle-factor… Case just has it in spades!
Those are both awesome. Thanks for showing them to us.
Bone Stag is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed the show!
I bought a couple of Case 2 or 3 years ago from same knife shop and both had the super toothy, non-sharp blades, so I returned them. Mind you, this was after picking up some GEC’s I think, so the bar was a little high. I’m happy to report I just got a Caribbean blue copperlock from Sheffield (the big Amazon seller)and the blades are pretty sweet. The covers are nice. Definite keeper.
I know many people feel Case knives don't come sharp enough.
I've been checking this one out. Thanks for showing it. They do a nice job on the Bone Stag, as well as most of their bone.👍👍
I agree. Some of the best bone in the business!
That is a great looking cover, I like the way the 6.5 bone stag holds up to edc use, the mini-trapper has that slick wharncliffe that I use quite a bit. Both of my knives have the same pattern on the covers as you pointed out which is the only reason I haven't wanted others but the assisted hunter is calling, me thinks.
The Gunstock Jack is a great looking knife very nice Bone Stag , I would like a single blade version..Cool video TG 👍
I know the Jack Wolf knife is sigle blade Gunstock but then price and micarta.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias $275 not for me nice looking knives but i do not see a $300 with Tax value in them,,I have a bunch of single blade slip joints ,,just picked up a nice Two Sun slip joint in Titanium & M390 awesome blade on it fantastic build quality under $100
@@JollyPeanut , I wish him the best andI truly hope the people who drop that kind of coin on the the knife love the knife.
The Bartender Knife is great. I've never seen that before
I just picked up a 6215 gunstock that is 2 7/8" . It has the 2001 tang stamp I think . Its a shadow pattern with orange jigged bone . Found it on etsy for $45 . Sweet little knife . It's a spear with a long pull and cut sweage . And a pen secondary.
It's a beautiful knife! Thanks for sharing!
I've also heard of it being a French nail nick, my favorite though is a matchstrike pull, at times they do actually function to strike matches on
I've seen a few long pulls that were match strike. Those work really well!
Case Knives are the best I own 10 stockmans from small to large all have great fit and finish !
They do indeed.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias The Slipjoint Guy told me they were Junk ! I do not agree with Him !
I love your bartender knife the gun stock pattern is perhaps my favorite I have the Amber bone peach seed jig 62130 from 2021. As far as the Rough Riders I bought the cinnamon bone stag in a Barlow and I really like it. Thought about getting another gun stock in the bone stag from case but what I really want to get is a case Mako in the bone stag. I believe I commented before that I have the case changer in the peach seed and I love that as well but I would really like to get a Maaco in the bone stag. Really like your content keep on going brother!
Thank you. The Mako is a good looking knife. I keep looking at that one as well!
@@KnifeChatswithTobias just got to save up the cash it's not cheap. I would like to get a buck 112 one of these days too but I don't want a fancy one I just want the Plain Jane
Very attractive knife Brother.
I see you found the icons! Glad you enjoy the knife!
I have never felt either way about a gunstock jack but I saw a RoseCraft gunstock jack on another video and something about it just spoke to me. It's D2 steel with micarta scales which I guess makes it a modern "traditional" but I really love this knife. Comfortable in the hand and the razor sharp edge lasts longer than traditional slip joint blade steels.
Bone Stag is easy to tell from Real Stag for me on Case Knives. The tell is seeing all the cut marks in the crevasses of the bone. I never see that on real stag. The irregular cover shape is a trait of Stag that makes it appear as stag.
The white creamy color of real stag after the bark of the horn once removed and polished smoothed is too. Burning is a process that makes the horn less brilliant white. It also helps making both covers look alike.
Just because you buy, Sambar Stag does not make it more valuable. The base of the horn is a different quality than the beams and point tips of the horn. What makes Stag bring high prices is what it looks like when finished. If you buy a Stag cover knife unseen, you do not know what it looks like. If lucky, you may get one that looks better than many others do. The most beautiful ones are easily worth twice the price or more.
Case haters make me laugh. 😅🤣😂
Very true, (BonStag vs. Genuine stag) especially on closer inspection. And with more experience and exposure, one will be able to tell the difference with a simple glance. That said, this stuff looks much closer to real stag than much f the BoneStag that is out there. Also true about torching both bone and stag. Quite a bit of genuine Stag is also torched to give better color as well as better strength. I have even heard of bone and stag being stabilized by pressure treating it with a resin to increase longevity and improve its resilience and reduce cracking.
Nice Gunstock Tobias, I need to pick up a case Gunstock. Tony Bose helped case design the gunstock I believe, imo his knives are built with better quality.
Only hassle with Case knives I've had is an uneven edge grind which was cosmetic. It was an easy fix and still cuts great. Only gripe I have with Case knives is the hrc is a bit soft and need constant stropping. Otherwise I'm saving to get a Case Panama trapper in CV.
This is a knife I own. All considered, the quality construction of the piece is what should be expected of Case, every time.
Absolutely.
I was eyeballing a Case Gunstock on SMKW... went with the RRR Lockstock though...🤔
I might need to pick that one up as well. I’m just sick of Micarta on traditional knives.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias they have a stabilized oak version of the kayak coming soon. Probably others...
The Gunstock is one of my favorite Case patterns.
Bonestag, on the other hand, can't make up it's mind.
What do you think on the blade length mie looks like it could be 1/4 inch longer
I’ll need to take another look. I don’t think it has to do with it being used as a bartender knife but maybe the blade is used in some other pattern. I need to look to see if it would hit something if it were longer.
Really like the look of this gunstock.since I got the jack wolf one I'm really enjoying it as its only got one blade and yes it's really comfortable. Ife case does a single blade version I to would get one.atb paddy
A single blade would be terrific!
I'm a big fan of the Gunstock. I'd love to have one with a wharncliffe as the second blade.
That could work out well. Some people want the wharnie on everything, these days, but I can see it as a useful blade especially as a secondary on a Gunstock.
Great review Tobias! Do you feel that the handle size is in proportion to the size of the spear blade on this knife? Seems a little small with such a large handle.
I definitely feel that just went for the closest pen blade currently in the inventory that would fit the handle and not one made specifically for the handle. So yes, they could've probably put a larger blade in the handle.
Haha, I told you, Bonestag is addictive!
It is indeed. At least Case BoneStag is!
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Based on what I've seen, Case is continuing to refine the Bonestag. I really like the way they're torching the bone now.
Nice video my friend
Thanks!
I think I remember Maury from case say that they were hand jigged, if that means completely by hand, I’m not sure
That sounds about right. It definitely doesn’t seem to be computer cut.
@@KnifeChatswithTobias I’ve actually been fooled by a couple myself, I really like the covers on your bartenders knife too
@@doomcrewoutdoors1613 , thanks. The more I look at them the more I like them as well. I had thought about torching them but decided that would be a bad idea. If they get darker, it will be from handling them.
I think they could have made the main blade a little longer it looks like they have the room nice video
Possibly. As the main blade operates on its own spring, the conversion to a Bartender would not influence the length of the main blade. I wonder if the blade is used on some other knife. Maybe that is why the length is what it is.
👍👍🤠🤠🎯🎯
Thanks.

"Gun Blast" followed by mineral oil? Yeah, one way or another, a knife will always benefit by deliberate flushing and legitimate lubrication.
