Helen25243 Denny loved both of his brothers very much. Word has it that he was a very lovable and caring guy. It's too bad he left us so early in his life 😕
@@worschtee1 Indeed, from most accounts Dennis was a very good guy despite his rough edges, he would give you the shirt off his own back if you didn't have one. Damn Manson and Murry Wilson for causing him so much unhappiness that ultimately destroyed him.
Things must have been rough for the Beach Boys during this time. It looks like Mike was telling fortunes on the side to make some extra cash. Great video,
The most versatile band ever! Rock, pop, ballads, r&r, blues, jazz, symphonies, country, folk, disco, gospel, waltzes, latin, children's songs, hymns, surf, psychedelia, soul, r&b, you name it... I absolutely looove this! Awesome!
Hallelujah!! Brian happy- Dennis and Carl still here-All the boys singing a joyful noise. Magical video. I love it. God Bless Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. Amen
This clip came from the Beach Boys' 1976 tv prime-time special that I think was on NBC. The song is also featured on the lp "15 Big Ones" that had come out around that time. It was like the group was making a comeback in the later 1970's and a single or two came from the album. I just wish someone would post that entire tv special since it was quite good to see the guys back. Sad that Dennis passed away just seven years later and then years later, Carl. But the guys' music will NEVER die!!
@@magneto7930 It sure was! This was a VERY enjoyable primetime Beach Boys special around the time that "15 Big Ones" came out. I LOVED this version of the song compared to the album's version.
@@katrinadawnmiller7832 I will have to check out the video of the 1976 tv special around the time that the "15 Big Ones" album came out. Thanks for letting me know since I could not find the tv special years ago on RUclips.
This is a gem! Wish they showed this at the Kennedy Center. What a groovin' blast. And Billy Hinsche in the choir! Bravo! Brian looked so great and healthy with Dennis and Carl alongside him.
How great this is to see Brian so happy and obviously relaxed that he was dancing a bit. Also to see all the BB's together. This is one magnificent video, thank you so much for posting it. I love them all but Brian is so special. Have added this to my Favourites.
That look that Carl gives Brian at 1:56 is like "uhhh I'm not sure how you're going to end this chorus part Brian, but I trust you since you're a genius."
Yes, I read that too, but I.m sure he loved Carl & Brian. They went through so much in their childhood together. In a RUclips clip, he (Dennis) ran up during a concert, and kissed Brian on the top of his head, it was so sweet, and who didn't love Carl?
This is priceless, golden and anything else you want to call perfect. This is Brian at his last creative peak with his brothers and the boys. Whatever you want to say about Brian, the world had faith in him including me.
Fantastic! Agree they should have released this version on '15 big ones' Love the way Brian is rockin at the end, really getting into the power of the choir!
DW is so soul at 2:09 and CW just takes over in the latter part of the chorus, fulfilling his role as the group's performance-perfectionist-genius. And lest we forget BW, who's so upbeat here! Thanks Bri for creating the happiest music I've heard. And thanks Den for your sheer musical brilliance.
my guess is - this was recorded live - but shot a couple times - and the best footage added - it definitely sounds live - its just great to see Brian get happy at the end - he starts getting into it.....like the song is just ok - he knows that - but with the choir going - the happy part of him clicks on a little bit.....heh
Choirmaster Alexander Hamilton (also known for his work with Aretha Franklins amazing performance at New Temple Missionary Baptist Church around this same time) is KILLING it on piano here. I could tell before I saw his face that that was him because of how he was grooving with his body! RIP.
GREAT ! AWESOME ! MAGNIFICENT ! Didn't even know that this song existed. I have shivers running up and down my spine. So blessed that Dennis, Carl and Brian were still alive and together. LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS SONG !
this video especially proves to me that without carl, even if Brian, Al, and maybe David came back with Mike and Bruce, there's no way to really get that sound without Carl's voice.
@1:25- 1:30 Mike Love 'emotes' via the medium of jazz hands and thumps up signs while right next to him Dennis Wilson has too much soul for one person.
@Helen25243 I'm sure DW loved his bros, but I read a quote in a recent bio where he said if they weren't in a band together, he'd probably never speak to them, but fell in love with him through their music.
I adore this video - for the reasons everybody's already mentioned + the hole fun catchy happy eartworm of the song/performance itself. This makes me so happy. Also makes me watch the video several times in a row and sing along while doing not-entirely ironic Mike love style hand gestures (Seriously just the idea of MIKE LOVE JAZZ HANDS is possibly the funniest thing ever.) . & singing along i sharf while it's also making you(me) grin so much my face hurts.
I've seen this clip a dozen times, for sure -- and never noticed (or else forgot) that Billy Hinsche is in the choir (1:48). Seems that this performance is longer than the TV version, too. I believe this is the same choir Dennis used in recording the "River Song", around the same time period.
they should have done more music like this! the choir and big band stuff they were recording during this time was all Brians idea (like so often) he was more hands off most of the time than during the pet sounds days, but he always had a positive influence on their music!
I feel like brian always yearned for what he had during the pet sounds era and smile just having dozens of talented musicians to work with and hang out with to bounce ideas off, i think he was just really lonely in his later years as people kinda dismissed him as “off the rocker”
Brian looks lost, but totally in the moment. Mike looks like a friggin' tool. Carl and Al look mildly uncomfortable but trying to mask it and being professional. Dennis looks like he's way into it and completely at ease. Is this the same choir which performed on POB? Is that Billy Hinsche in the choir t 1:46?
Love all your comments peeps. This is a gem. A few thoughts. 1. Music is the voice of God (a quote from Brian?). 2. Who can be unhappy while singing with a gospel choir? Music heals Brian visibly by the end of the video. Moment of grace as his anxiety dissipates into joy. 3. Other than his goofy turban, Mike doesn't get to play Mr. Big Shot in the House of the Lord. There's one soloist and one choir to make One Voice.
yeah, this is some rare footage of Brian around his comeback period when he was still quite young and before his worst times in the late 70's early 80's, of course followed by the permanent damage caused to him by the psycho-tropic drugs that Landy gave him. He is fantastic in this video, and so is everyone else who is present. Naturally, I would imagine that Brian wrote and arranged this, but I'm not sure.
Brian's dancing at 2:43 is possibly the greatest thing ever.
Yeah, how often do you see Brian looking happy?
Check out Brian singing Runaway in Seattle with Alan Jardine, he dances there too!!!
I agree!
A cinnamon roll

Besides fortune telling, perhaps he could pick up some extra coin applying tattoos?
His Hawthorne version of a doo-rag.
@terry One of the best lines ever!
His jazz fingers killed me
At the start Brian looked kinda wide eyed, but as the song goes on you can see he's really enjoying it all. It looks like it was all fun
