Brian admitted himself to hospital before the show because he was so anxious and after the show he was so pleased that he finally conquered his fear of Smile.
despite the absence of carl, al and dennis, absolute best version by miles. seeing brian smile so much during this performance, seeing his dream finally realised is truly heartwarming.
When music is crafted so beautifully as Brian has done, it can bring a tear to your eye and a tightness in your chest that tells you this is the real deal.
I am grateful that Brian Wilson is being honored at this point in his life, very deserving. He created this whole new sound that is recognizable by only hearing one note, one small harmony. Beautiful!
This arrangement, orchestration, harmonies and overall performance is one of the best if not the best Wilson creations I have listened to and appreciated. Genius!
What makes me happy is imagining all of the practices and him wanting things just so. Look how all of the artists are waiting for his cues throughout the entire performance. Brian is a genius.
Carol Kaye has said the Wrecking Crew was pretty much in awe of Brian, and he was their favorite artist to work for. Self taught, he would write out charts for the band members and have mistakes like stems on the wrong side, but the music was genius, and they recognized it...
One of Brian's best of all time. Got very little play when it was released. The song has very intricate harmonies. Very few groups of today could even come close to sounding this great!!!
"Fell in love long ago with an innocent girl from the Spanish and Indian home of the heroes and villains." An incredible lyric. El mestizaje. Unlike the song "El Paso" by Marty Robbins, this girl wasn't a Latina femme fatal. She's the one who got shot and died, at the hands of these invaders in her land, the heroes and villains. Amazing little bit of storytelling. At least that's how this "girl" sees it. VanDyke Parks, home run.
@@AdrianGrabe1 the album this song is off of is called "SMILE" and I'm just guessing but I think she was saying she loved it so much she could cry... Yet shed rather "SMILE" get it?
smile was hated by his band, and pet sounds was a poor seller in its time. There's so many Van Goghs and Syd Barrett's who either died or were too far gone to know how much their work meant, and how appreciated it would become. It makes me so happy seeing him enjoy how appreciated his work is.
SukkaPunch321 Brian was hated? The band was his two brothers, his cousin, and his best friend. you're talking crap😂 The Beach Boys never really fell out 👍
The Cinematic Mind Which is funny when you think about it. Mike was noted in an interview saying he wanted to move past the surfing music during promotions for their "Today!" album.
Saw "Love and & Mercy" last night. Was reminded of why the Smile album is one of my all-time favs! Thank you, Brian for sharing your talents and artistry.
So pleased we have this! Brian was so kind and generous to create this orchestrated version, and, along with the amazing “Surf’s Up”, this is a treasure for all time. Blessings on you, Mr. Wilson.
Can you imagine trying to figure out how to play this live? Like arrange it? where would you start! I honestly bet they practiced this song for over a year before they got it right 👍
I just had to comment on this..I have the Smile album and thinks its great but when you see a song like this being done live it just blows my mind. Make no mistake, Brian Wilson is one of the most talented musicians\composers ever to grace this earth. There is so much to be said within this song - The tune itself - positive, catchy, melodic, complicative but at the same time simplistic. The harmonies! - Just listen throughout it and you can hear so many people singing different parts...amazing
The whole performance is fantastic, Brian, the Band it emanates such a joy to perform this song its very touching and very catchy at the same time The joy spreads to all those who watch this video
Love love love Brian Wilson. The man is a true genius. A word that is thrown around too often, but rarely really applies to someone. Brian is one those very very rare cases. A muscial recolutionary with an astonishing vision and a gift that is out of this world. We are very very lucky that this great man is still among us, and we should let him know how much we worship him. All the love and praise we can give him would still not be enough.
I saw them perform this in a small venue in the Uk , it made the hairs on back of my neck stand up at the beginning it was the most wonderful performance of any band I’ve seen ever quite magnificent as was the whole gig every note was perfect brilliant 👏👏👏
They both inspired each other ti write some of the greatest albums ever recorded Rubber Soul inspired Pet Sounds... Pet Sounds inspired Sgt.Pepper.. Sgt Pepper inspired Smile..but Brian was just too fucked up at the time that alot of it didn't make sense..other than like 3 songs that were released from the Smile Sessions...he destroyed the originals that contained rest of it..but it made no sense unlike Pet Sounds...just some fun facts.
@@DummyYEEEAAHHHHH parts were unfinished and some vocals were either unattempted or just not completed but SMiLE was very nearly finished in 67', Brian did an excellent job considering the pressure and push back he was receiving at the time. This is one of the most different, and amazing songs, arrangements in the history of rock and roll.... I think only good vibrations, and MacArthur's park come close to it... Most rock, pop bands never came up with anything close to this.... Thank you Brain for all the great music... Check out, good by to the class of 74.. Thank you, Brian. You’ve been so brave for so long and have made the whole world smile. It’s great to see you finally SMiLE again. The whole world loves you.
so great to see brian wilson's smile like that, looks just like how happy he looked when performing in the earliest days, only devoid of the fear and nervousness in his eyes this guy is the man one hundred percent
With the Beach Men this was a ball of confusion. Tho a beautiful piece striving to greatness. This version is what it should be-musical theatre with full voice and instrumentation.Even more poignant knowing how Wilson crawled back from oblivion to put his dream songs on stage and perform again. A Revelation from a master of American Pop Music.
I can't even come up with words to describe how beautiful this version is. I must have listened to it well over a hundred times and I don't get tired of listening to it. I'm a little bummed the ending got clipped.
We are so very fortunate to have experienced Brian's music during his lifetime. He will go down in the books as one of the greatest composers of all time. He is an old soul for sure... and one of the good guys!
Brian's concert is like going to musical heaven.
🙏 YES! 🙏
Fantástico!
Brian Wilson 🎼🌹
He looks so happy and that makes me so happy 🥹🥹🥹
Brian is one of those rare geniuses that only come along once in a generation.
J Mason Yeah, more like once in a century. Just my opinion okay. Don't beat me up.
I´am with you, Kevin Russell! One in a century!
Aneeta TV probably right. Probably too small too

he looks so much happier in this song. usually brian looks like he doesn't want to be there

Probably helped that Mike Love wasn't there lol
Fuck Mike Love
Ironic as well because for over 30 years he was terrified of this song.
one of the best beach boys songs ever, very under-rated
kayla farrell I take it further, one of the most important songs ever recorded.
and I agree with both of you
100% AGREE
My #1 favorite song of all time, though it doesn't REALLY start until about 2:12
Great song, and this is a masterful performance.
This is seriously one of the most amazing live performances ive seen in a while
MardukFilms I saw them live in Detroit a month ago -- every song is like this. So much precision and passion, it's amazing. I recommend it.
“The best touring band in the world. Period.”
-Sir Paul McCartney
What did he say that about Brian's touring band or the beach boys in their prime?
Who can argue with Sir Paul?
Brian's God Only Knows is Paul's
favourite song.

The music is only exceeded by the smile on Brian's face. Who knew? We had our fingers crossed for you , Guy.

Every time I hear a Brian Wilson song it brings a smile to my face. That's 62 years of smiles (my age). 😃
Such harmony complexity can only come from a brain that can live in parallel universes. Genius!!!
