When we lived in San Francisco and used a lot of oil and rice, we learned from an old old plumber to pour boiling water down our sink and one of the easiest ways was when we were making pasta it helps melt away everything and keep it clear
Put some salt and baking soda in the sink drain, add some vinegar (it'll fizzle) let it do it's action while cooking pasta and pour over the drain. Great for septic system too
@@Mojo-ld8xt that combo I never heard of.. I use baking soda and white vinegar for my drains including my dish washer. Don’t know what your salt is for
@@beanetricemcdaniel6853 I don't know, but my guess is that salt works as an abrasive. But don't quote me, for all I know there is a chemical reaction that I'm unaware of.
I have a special colander that sits inside my pot and I use that occasionally, and then all I have to do is lift it out (it has a handle like a bucket) and then dump the water from the pot into the sink while the pasta is still inside the colander. Your trick would probably only work for smaller pasta. It would not work for spaghetti or other pasta that has to be stirred consistently. :)
I have the two pot strainer set,the large pasta strainer that goes inside of the large pot when you're cooking any kind of pasta and you just lift up the strainer to drain the pasta and the small strainer to sit on top for steaming vegetables
I saw this tip on another channel on YT and have been fantasising about using it because I am always looking for an opportunity not to have to wash my colander. I also reently bought a bowl shaped metal mesh strainer which I plan on using for the same purpose. This is even better because when I remove it from the pot I can sit it down in the sink for as long as I need to.
Good idea! That'll work for me! That saves time!; love it! Thanks Ms. Pam ! Keep it coming! I can use the extra time!! God continue to bless you and family!❤
I don't see that working too well for any long pasta or a lot of pasta. I long for one of those tall pots with the strainer insert; they tend to be very expensive though😢.
I do have one of those pots and I love it. But this works for longer pasta too with a larger strainer and larger pot because the pasta shrinks down and is not long anymore as it cooks. Thanks
Pam is the grandma I’ve never had 😢 I have a garden that is thriving… I’ve learned various life hacks… I come check for recalls… Literally my “let me go ask granny” is let me check Pam’s page 😂 Love ALL of your content ❤
I have a pasta pot, quite tall, and it has a separate perforated inner which you drop in. Lift out the inner, all liquid left in the pot. It also has a steamer insert that sits above the water. Great find in a charity shop.
