That said I wouldn’t be enjoying all these memes and edits of the game had I not taken the plunge with this title as my 1st full RE game, the only value of buying early is a cultural one but that can’t be easily dismissed imo
The thing that is annoying me the most on Series X is the texture and lod pop-up whenever I close the map and the briefcase, it takes a few seconds until it completely loads the higher resolution/polygon count. It is actually really detracting the game experience as I'm constantly checking the map/case.
@@ThomasVvV You mean SSD speed right? Series X actually has faster memory, or atleast 10GB of it is @ 560GB/s, compared to PS5's 448GB/s. Memory and storage are two completely different things FYI.
@@Willian774 The funny thing is that I am playing the game on base PS4 and haven't noticed texture loading issues in cinematics. I feel like this is a last-gen game poorly optimized for current-gen. I mean look all those graphics options on PS5 and XBX, what a mess. Developers should just stick with an artistic vision and optimize it to their best.
I feel like this video skips over a lot of the issues this patch introduced to the Xbox version in terms of resolution, fidelity and strange depth of field issues. It seems like a step down in some ways from its previous state on Series X and I’m a bit surprised that hasn’t been touched upon in any detail. Normally these analysis are extremely methodical.
@@bobjoe5937 how old are you? Silly console bashing is laughable. On the the specs side the series x got more power but the devs must do their jobs right. The graphic’s are not state of the art to have performance issues
You have to make sacrifices to get better performance. Why does Xbox fans always want better fidelity rather than better performance? Launch Version was unplayable at 40-50 FPS even with VRR mode. They had to by-pass one TAA filter that Xbox had and PS5 didn't, which made the game look smoother, but performance difference was about 10-15 FPS. Who would sacrifice so much performance for a slightly better image?
I noticed a rather serious downgrade in picture quality and also frame rate issues in places I didn't have any drops before. It feels like they've made the Xbox version substantially worse.
@@JellyJmanthat’s what I’m doing bye bye ps5….certain games have came out that blow me away (performance and fidelity) like demon souls, tlou remastered, r&c a rift apart, horizon (latest one story and character sucked), even fortnight @ 120hrtz…the majority of theses games are exclusive and benefit from me having a 120 hertz oled with vrr, these experience spoil me when a load up a game like Elden ring and other multi plats that suffer from low optimization and janky frames….I just want to play games that run and look good and I guess the best way to do that is to build a 4090 rig 😞 if all games could run like the ones I mentioned I’d be fine staying console. Also the cost difference in games from console to pc, lack of mods, and censorship issues are becoming greater issues that again are gonna push me to build a rig. When a game that received so much hate from the western media like stellar blade did comes out and looks 90% better and plays 100% better than most the slop coming out from established aaa, and aaaa developers we clearly have problems, and this was shift ups first big game release. Please no more preaching “the message” through unskippable, long winded, boring gamplayless bs….i couldn’t even get into gameplay of immortals of sjwism as I couldn’t stomach the the dialog in the unskippable bs. I’m grateful for that as the screenshots I’ve seen of gameplay look like rainbow bite had too much to drink and puked all over the screen 🤦♂️ PC seems the way to go
they should have overhauled the gyro aiming on ps5. It simulates the rightstick instead of acting like a mouse. a mouse does not need deadzones and aim curves. sticks do. even if they dont change it to mouse gyro, they could atleast seperate the sensitivity settings for the sticks and the gyro. even devices like the xim nexus can seperate these options. and these devices also simulate rightstick, so that is no excuse. Capcom sucks at making aiming good in games. with sticks and with gyro.
Oliver didn’t test PS5 Frame rate mode with any of the extra features. For me playing with frame rate mode with raytracing it’s much improved. It now sticks to 60fps much more closely.
I don't think you can use rt on frame rate mode. If you enabled RT it will enable resolution mode. So that's what your playing. It is very smooth there both the same but res mode more crispy resolution. Problem is, it's missing sharpening on edges
Oliver does mention all the individual options at the 9:56 mark. You can use frame rate mode with hair strands and raytracing. I haven’t tried hair strands in this new patch.
@@WeencieRantsThat is true, however then you have to deal with the worse deadzones. They should have fixed the deadzone and set a lower native resolution to 1440p instead of messing around with the TAA! But yes, atleast we have the option to play the better image quality on the disc.
TY for covering the dead zone issue on xbox. the number of people, mostly industry reviewer types, that didnt even seem to notice or acknowledge the dead zone problem on xbox was disturbing. not sure if these people are simply unable to notice, or if they ignored it for some reason, as they gave the game 10/10. makes me really question a lot of these peoples' abilities to convey useful info about a game to someone like me and anyone else who actually cares about how game controls feel.
I didn't even notice it either until DF mentioned as far as i was concerned this was the aiming mechanic parameters they set. Wgen tje full game dropped seemed the same as the demo i had no issues with hitting multiple headshots in a row never felt hindered by it. Sure wasn't as you said disturbing. Dunno why you would use that word choice either but whatever.
It's still not completely fixed, the Series consoles got completely shafted during the development of this game, doesn't surprise me because Monster Hunter Rise also performs better on ps5. Capcom does not see Xbox as a priority.
Played it on a series s and my only issue was crazy amounts of texture pop in and straight up missing textures elsewhere, wild ya never mentioned textures on Xbox besides saying "yea that's fine"
@@bobjoe5937 wow such an articulate response! Never mind the fact series s is stronger and more capable than the majority of gaming PCs in homes right now but why would I not demand better from Capcom and df?
For Series X players with VRR it was a pretty rough visual quality downgrade, you can see it clear as day with the main menu village area background flickering and shimmering way more than before.
@@shredenvain7 with VRR in framerate mode and ray tracing turned off (the RT really isn't that important) and hair turned off it looked and ran beautifully with my Series X and Samsung OLED, so this part of the update was very annoying. I have both a PS5 and Series X so I got the Xbox version primarily because I saw that the demo had superior image quality, then they ripped it away.
@@RetroMediaRoomsame here. Bought it on Xbox based off of demo image quality. Eventually got the ps5 version for dual sense support when I had some extra cash. However, we have lost a really good looking version with this last update.
What mode are you playing on? I'm on the Series X on a LG C1 Oled with VRR enabled in performance mode and the game looks absolutely incredible. no issues over here whatsoever.
frame rate mode on xbox looks a bit worse now, but the cool thing is that now I can just play in resolution mode since it runs as smooth as frame rate mode used to. So because resolution mode is now actually more than usable I feel like I'm getting better graphics than I was. Even with hair strands on it feels smooth. I found that especially if I choose to have Leon with the pinstripe suit which is my favourite anyway, having Ashley or Luis with hair strands I notice zero difference in frame rate compared to hair strands off (in resolution mode with rt on). But if I pick Leon where he also has flowing hair then I notice a hit to frame rate. So strangely I have Leon with the pinstripe suit and hair strands on and the game looks and feels awesome to me, and the dead zone thing is fixed. But there is more shimmer to the image than before. but overall it's a better experience than it was. And I'm sure this isn't the last patch.
I know we're focusing on current-gen stuff, but the PS4 version of the game could use a handful of bug fixes too. The super slow texture loading is annoying but not game-breaking; but the fact that using a scope on a rifle cuts the FPS to like 10 makes doing some of the shooting gallery stuff nigh-impossible.
They fixed the sniper frame rate in this patch and some of the asset loading issues. It still occurs but to me it's because of the demanding nature of the game
These clowns saying thrash as if the game doesn't have similar issues on current gen consoles as well. Current gen consoles are already getting old. It's not a hardware issue but Capcom poor optimization for the different platforms. It's high people stop making stupid excuses for developers.
I play on PS5 in frame rate mode with RT, no hair strands, no Chromatic Abberations & no lens distortion. Mostly holds 60fps, but I've had it dip below the VRR window(thank you LG CX VRR info).
Good to see improvements on console. I played on PC and used the DLSS mod as I found the way Capcom handles TAA leaves a bit to be desired here, as well as their ray tracing implementation.
They changes the TAA setting to improve performance, this caused the aliasing. Capcom should lower the resolution to a native 1440p and revert to the better TAA settings to keep the image quality clean and also maintaine the improved performance!
@@kevincarneling7118 No, they should revert the patch. They didn't even fully fix the deadzones. Resolution mode was great before, and usually 45-60fps, which is more than enough. Now it looks worse than perf mode.
The game is still full of lag and framerate drops in no hair and ray tracing performance mode, in bright areas or with many light sources it is difficult to find a point where by rotating the camera the game does not lag, ditto for the framerate , steady 60fps but jerky under light sources and particle effects, and the shimmering not solved (PS5)
since this patch, there’s been loads of frame rate issues on the PS5. Graphics improved though. But there are frame rate drops in certain areas that didn’t contain frame rate problems before
@@frankvandermerwe1487 No? Why would I be spreading BS about a problem I’m having since the update? Oh of course you’ve got a little animated character as your avatar.
So, now PS5 looks better after the patch, XSX worse...both of course can do better than that, we all know that. Seriously Capcom, just do a proper job for the consoles...
The PS5 version still stutters when moving the camera quickly in certain rooms like the grand hall and some outdoor areas. Is this because of the 48hz VRR bottom?
Why wasn’t the serious texture issue addressed? Especially the Series X? This should NOT be happening on next gen consoles it’s worse than ever happening during gameplay, cutscenes i’m very suprised at Capcom for this
And something seems broken with the depth of field. In a cutscene towards the 3rd act of the game, the depth of field blur actually blurs part of Leon’s face.
This is coming from someone who was never bothered by any of the issues in the first place pre-patch. It’s still playable and it hasn’t ruined the game for me like how it seems to be for a lot of redditors, but it’s definitely noticeable.
Its 2023 and we have 12 and 10 Teraflop game consoles (Excluding the Series S) and super fast SSD yet we are still talking about Texture pop in, low resolution, low frame rate and getting games to run at Native Resolution but many say that we dont need Enhanced consoles and developers have yet to fully tap into current Gen consoles because of Cross Gen. I really hope CAPCOM can really fix this game and the gamers have been waiting a long time for this title, Maybe they should had center development around last Gen like R.E. Village and upgraded from there to current Console so we received Native 4K/60P and maybe 1440/120P or 1440/60P Ray Tracing.......P.S. Leon's hair is a issue along with the color this was also a problem in R.E. 6 where CAPCOM made his hair color way to light compared to R.E. 2 and the original R.E. 4.
Great video DF. For it being a cross-gen game, RE 4 Remake is a great game. Hopefully as time moves on this game will see more improvements like the other RE games.
It's also extremely stable on PC now that I have disabled RT. No crash ever since for like a bunch of puddles that you don't notice anyway is so worth. Only disappointment on PC are the AA options. They all look oversharpen and FSR2 is terrible in this title. If you have an Nvidia card, I recommend using DLDSR and if you need perfomance, you can download a DLSS mod and combine both technologies. Pristine quality.
I've never used FSR until RE4 but I haven't really noticed any problems with it on 1440p or 4k. I still wish they'd add DLSS natively, though. Disabling RT fixed all the crashing for me too after playing with it on for several hours. And it doesn't look very good anyways, nor does SSR. I can bump all the other settings to max regardless of what the memory load claims and I haven't had a single crash without RT.
@@MintyLime703 Yeah they won't add DLSS as this is an AMD sponsored title. But I still recommend the mod, the only downside is quick slot interface shows ghosting and aiming with a scope reduces considerably perfomance, though that was not an issue for me as I used iron sights and the scope for regenerators doesn't seem to be affected.
@@denisruskin348 FSR2 looks better than DLSS for me. It's a bit more smoother but DLSS changes the entire image in a way that it becomes unpleasant to look at. DLDSR+ FSR2 on quality looks phenomenal for me. Also, which hair option you guys think is the best one?
@@cuttrogue I have the exact opposite feeling lol. Well, at least we have a choice, unlike consoles. I'm playing with the hair thing maxed out, it does drain some fps but it looks good to me and I have fps for spare so...

@@Chris3377710 I do, but since the update, they screwed everyone with a XSX and VRR TVs. Unlike the PS5, the XSX has robust VRR with a range down to 30fps (compared to 48 on the PS5).
ROFL ikr. Was my main issue on Series S. Wanna buy for ps5 but I’m not seeing anything close to a $60 difference in look here. Assuming PS5 also has this issue too.
I always turn these effects off because they do still change the image. I don't care for adding blurring to the edges of the display simply to emphasize movement. It's totally unnecessary. If any game has the option to turn them off, they stay off for me. They DO affect the image.
Mostly, 55-60fps. It really only goes lower in a few parts of the game. The village at night in the rain will still dip to around 45fps. Unfortunately, anything outside of straight performance basically requires VRR.
Did you boot REVillage and compared the trees? It has the same TAA Pass as REmake4. It has HUGE amounts of shimmering on PS5 apart from ground foliage. This is no different. You don't sit glued to your HDTV in your face. There is a distance calculator how much you should stand away from your TV depending how much Inches it has. 50' it's around 2.5M to 3M. Also Eye Level must be optimal.
With the current patch on Xbox Series S (1.0.5) the aliasing in framerate mode is fixed, the game looks extremely clear. Screen space reflections seem to be added back into framerate mode but they look better than before and aren't as distracting. However, the texture pop-in issue in resolution mode that's been present since the launch is still here. Resolution mode still has ray traced reflections but they're still quite pixelated
I have been looking everywhere on the internet and I legit can’t figure out how to turn between frame rate mode and quality mode. Do you just have to manually set the resolution to 1080p?
Yeah like up to 40% of textures are just PS2 in resolution mode XSS. Really irked me as it was distracting af. Switched to fr mode and solved everything and had a blast.
The shooting range was a nightmare on Series X with the input issues. I finished all the achievements, but I'll give it another try just to see if it's enjoyable now.
Yes, and this is designed to give uninformed people the notion that the PS5 is superior because of its controller and makes them more likely to shift over. All calculated.
My favorite configuration on PS5 is Performance RT + Hair. It runs actually pretty decently since launch, though it drops frames often. I know DF says the hair strands looks worse, and it indeed it has some problems, but I prefer the look of it and it's so much better in cutscenes. Might turn off RT now that the weird SRR it's gone.
Playing it on PS5 performance and its absolutely stunning.. the lighting & the amount of details capcom puts into this game is just crazy.. not to mention the animation which is ridiculous! The feel of movement & shooting.. its FANTASTIC! even in performance mode the game image quality is soo good! Its a 4K like for real, ofc now watching the whole vid its 1944P so thats why 😂😂❤❤

Pro difficulty was adjusted too, Idk if anyone actually touched on it. I noticed the first day of the patch as I had just completed S on NG+ Pro, then started a S+ run the morning of the patch and it was massively different. In my opinion RE engine is a beast, but you are 100% right. Especially AA is strange when you look at other modern games, who have 0 problem and still look graphically impressive.
RE Engine is a 2014 engine. It's dated and they're milking it as much as they can before they have to retire it. You think these modern RE games would have such poor quality issues if they were built on Unreal Engine 5? Not a chance in the blue blazes of the 7th layer of hell.

Hope they fix the "Texture Issue" first. Its literally on all consoles and PC. You open your breifcase or pick up a new item. All textures have to load back in again. And they are already talking about a PS5 Pro version. : /
Curious if you also found the shooting range challenges to be too easy. I was able to achieve S rank on the first 6, but I've got no chance at S rank on the latter 6 shooting range challenges (3-A, B, & C, and 4-A, B & C).
Xbox Series X texture pop in during cut scenes is worse since the patch as well - just terrible - every time the camera angle changes Ashley’s armor texture pops in after a full second
They seem lazy tbh and not actually testing the games enough to spot problems. The patch for example broke depth of field on xbox and texture streaming is worse. This channel is not what it used to be.
Technically they don't have to, they haven't even fixed monster hunter rise on the Series X in the 120fps performance mode. A Japanese company is going to favor Japanese product's, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't fix it, especially since the Series X and S sell extremely poor in Japan.
@@iconofsin4578 mean, if I was a Japanese game company and the Xbox has an abysmal history in Japan, I'd give the product a fair shake on Xbox but that's it, I wouldn't waste resources trying to optimize it as much as possible. @Icon of Sin "Much more capable system"? SX has a 4 channel memory controller. The PS5 has a 12 channel controller. PS5 has substantially higher GPU clocks as well, which helps. Is it just me or do shadows behave oddly in this game? The game itself is beautiful, but the shadows sometimes appear overly dark and almost look purple on my tv sometimes. Playing in PS5 and a Hisense U8H. The shadows also cause some ghosting sometimes too. Maybe it’s just my TV. Anyone else experience this?

The textures take 2 seconds to load on the Series X and constantly pop in during cutscenes…and this patch made it even worse. They also managed to make the depth of field actually obscure and cut off parts of peoples faces in cutscenes near the end of the game…So many visual bugs now. What is the point of a 60fps patch if the visuals are this distracting? What’s the point of a “framerate mode” in general? If the resolution modes now target 60fps with this level of degraded visuals the “framerate mode” seems pretty redundant A game from a major player like Capcom shouldn’t be in this state still.

Seems like the hair strands are a massive drop in performance based on your previous video. What's the fps with resolution + rt on for PS5 as well as performance mode + rt on? Do you think I can achieve a solid 60 on either(or even close to it)?
No. Resolution Mode will drop the FPS right away at the start of the game to 50-55, it's an intensive alpha object foliage area. After that, the game hangs around 50-55 FPS in Resolution Mode. Hair Strands HEAVILY impact the Raining Village Section. And RayTracing also lowers the FPS. If you want a stable FPS mode, Use Framerate, 1940P is very close to 4K. All HDTVs have an upscaling chip anyway. You can turn Hair Strands on, and it will be stable 60, until the Villaee Raining area, there, the FPS will drop, but just at that scene. After that, it's stable 60 with Hair Strands. Ray Tracing always causes FPS drops and you can't get Stable 60 even in FrameRate mode without Hair Strands. Plus Hair Strands on LEON do NOT deflect rain, Unlike Ashley. They pass through him.

I've been holding off since launch seeing how both consoles had issues, waiting for a patch to iron them out before picking a version. I'm still unsure which way to go after this mixed bag of an update. Does PS5 have a clear edge now ?
Imo PS5 had the edge since launch. The Dualsense features are so well implemented in this game! Also the deadzone issue really makes the Xbox version feel worse. With this update, everything is more in favor of PS5.
I would wait for a few more patches if i where you! Both PS5 and Series X have the same issue with anti aliasing/shimmering after the update. Capcom should set a lower resolution target with better TAA settings to keep the image quality clean on both consoles and also maintaine the improved performance. However, both consoles run really smooth now and especially if you have a VRR display. The deadzones are also really smooth on series x after this patch and PS5 already had good deadzones. I personally prefer to play the Series X version because it allows me to reach 1m response time on my gaming monitor with the 120hz option in the system settings. I get massive inverse ghosting @60hz which the PS5 is limited to in none 120fps games. Hope that help you a little.

I notice these things all the time. I was actually really disappointed in the title at launch because of the performance and image quality issues. I noticed it right away when I booted the game the other night and it was slightly smoother and looked better visually. I almost played it on Resolution Mode when it first came out because it helped with the poor image quality, but the performance drops were too much so I went with Performance mode instead. I'm just super sensitive to these kinds of things with games. I point them out to my girlfriend all the time and sometimes even when I do it, she still can't tell what I'm seeing.
When you become really engrossed into a game world, you're not thinking about this shit at all. I'm playing in framerate mode on PS4 Pro and it's pretty good. I've noticed very few major drops in fact that take you out of the action. I may wait now for a PS5 Pro.
@@gdoumit Maybe you're focusing on the wrong things a bit. I always think a game developers job is to immerse the player into the world, a form of escapism after a tired ass day at work. If the performance issues are bad enough to remove the player from the from that immersion, then it's a problem I agree. But it's kinda subjective. I'm playing framerate mode on PS4 Pro and I'm enjoying the game.

The shimmering is way worse on XSX especially in performance mode, and now they removed screen space reflections from the non RT mode? This is a downgrade.
Also, they didn't even bother optimizing the rainy village return chapter, Capcom are incompetant, and as usual, DF is putting a positive spin on things, cause it's apparently illegal to be mean to developers and hold them responsible.

Imagine if you're anticipating playing Redfall at 30FPS at launch instead of waiting for the 60FPS patch coming later that likely comes with a huge list of bug and other performance fixes. Or pretty much any game to come out on these current gen consoles that after a couple of weeks or month not only sees the game drop in price but also improves several performance issues and bug fixes. Better yet, why even buy the game at all if it's single player? It will come to PS+ or Game Pass one day probably, and if it doesn't you can buy it even cheaper. I don't care if this results in game devs losing money, they kinda deserve it at this point for insisting on releasing unfinished games then spending months post-launch making them match what we expected day one. Sound entitled? Don't care. I own and pay for everything, but at this point it's honestly feeling like the devs rely on releasing a game and use the day one adopters feedback to beta test issues.
No, it's the opposite problem here. They did a bait-and-switch on xbox players. First they gave us 45-60fps even in resolution mode, which look great. Then they patched res mode to look worse than perf mode!
@@KitFisto.66 RE4 also had several patches and fixes and didn't receive VR support for several more months which is when I bought it. Did you buy Concord day one? I bet that would have been fun. You can cherrypick a couple of good examples and bad examples easy enough but still the point remains that more often than not games are releasing in what feels to be a rough and unfinished state, and since you mentioned a CAPCOM game it's also fair to point out that I was so excited for Dragon's Dogma 2 I ignored my own advice and bought it day one... and what a surprise... It was a MESS!!! CAPCOM didn't even put a 30FPS cap on the game at release, it ran awkwardly between 20 and 40FPS just jumping wildly not to mention other problems. By the time CAPCOM had patched the game to improve it and fix a lot of stuff I was already done with the game... If only I waited a week or two longer... Also I just tried the beta for Monster Hunter Wilds, another CAPCOM game and boy oh boy is that game rough right now. If it launches in the same state at the beta it will not be good... Fingers crossed they make many improvements because it's only 3 months away from launch now.
@DirEnGay if a game is fun well im gonna play it and enjoy it even if its buggy or the fps isnt a solid 60 fps simple as that i mean its a bonus if its not buggy or if it has a solid fps but yeah simple
What's the point of the game having two modes aiming at 60fps? I still miss a 4K mode at 30fps, with RT and Hair Strands. At least there was a significant improvement in the PS5 version.
As a gamer, it pays off to be patient nowadays. You get cheaper, bug-free & better looking games a few months after release.
Particularly Re4r is played 10 times better on release then some of the games nowadays
That said I wouldn’t be enjoying all these memes and edits of the game had I not taken the plunge with this title as my 1st full RE game, the only value of buying early is a cultural one but that can’t be easily dismissed imo

My PS5 version ran mostly great with a bit of screen tearing in the final boss fight on my second play through.

The thing that is annoying me the most on Series X is the texture and lod pop-up whenever I close the map and the briefcase, it takes a few seconds until it completely loads the higher resolution/polygon count. It is actually really detracting the game experience as I'm constantly checking the map/case.
It's a second at most, not "a few seconds".

Did they drop the resolution? 🤔 it says its same but more aliasing
frame rate mode on xbox looks a bit worse now, but the cool thing is that now I can just play in resolution mode since it runs as smooth as frame rate mode used to.
I'll wait a little more to play it on my 5800X3D & RTX 4090 PC ❤
They are waiting for the dev tools, remember?
I know we're focusing on current-gen stuff, but the PS4 version of the game could use a handful of bug fixes too. The super slow texture loading is annoying but not game-breaking; but the fact that using a scope on a rifle cuts the FPS to like 10 makes doing some of the shooting gallery stuff nigh-impossible.
They fixed the sniper frame rate in this patch and some of the asset loading issues. It still occurs but to me it's because of the demanding nature of the game
We need to stop living in the past and focus on current gen, not last gen.
You could speed up the texture loading for the games on your PS4 by installing an SSD. Really easy to do and makes a noticeable difference.
That's to be expected on such antiquidated hardware.

@@TheNiland43 Yeah, they fixed it, about 95%. Resolution mode is still slightly lower than it was originally. They did fix the huge deadzones on xbox.
Having no communication from Capcom after that bad patch didn't help things.
I hope they release some sort of Resident Evil 4 Remake Gold edition where all these updates and the DLC are on disc. It sucks having a worse version on disc.
There's so much that I like about the RE engine but reflections and AA are it's Achilles heel for some reason.
In my opinion RE engine is a beast, but you are 100% right. Especially AA is strange when you look at other modern games, who have 0 problem and still look graphically impressive.
@@SuperPatinator Actually almost every modern game engine has terrible AA. RDR2 TAA is unplayable on anything other than 4k resolution.
TAA is bad and most games use it lol it looks terrible unless you play on a TV farer away on PC it looks bad
RE Engine is a 2014 engine. It's dated and they're milking it as much as they can before they have to retire it. You think these modern RE games would have such poor quality issues if they were built on Unreal Engine 5? Not a chance in the blue blazes of the 7th layer of hell.
@@Philosopheraptor Unreal is a 1996 engine, using your logic. Every engine is constantly rewritten and updated, RE4 looks much better than RE7. And it came out in 2017, not 2014. Also, Unreal 5 looks like plastic garbage.
All videos by this channel on capcom games and I've never heard them talking about the ghosting effect, or is my ps4 and ps5 bugging?
They seem lazy tbh and not actually testing the games enough to spot problems. The patch for example broke depth of field on xbox and texture streaming is worse. This channel is not what it used to be.
@@IsidorTheNordicGuy yeah this video seems to have not really looked at the xbox version of the game as well
What about the PS4/Pro. Have they been forgotten.
All consoles? How about PS4 Pro and XB-X
Some of those issues will never be fixed and that's sad
They HAVE to fix the Series X version. The aliasing is awful.
Technically they don't have to, they haven't even fixed monster hunter rise on the Series X in the 120fps performance mode.
A Japanese company is going to favor Japanese product's, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't fix it, especially since the Series X and S sell extremely poor in Japan.
@@wodensthrone5215 thats true but kinda stupid way of thinking. "Oh 90% players play playstation here in japan so its the same in everywhere" lol
@@iconofsin4578 mean, if I was a Japanese game company and the Xbox has an abysmal history in Japan, I'd give the product a fair shake on Xbox but that's it, I wouldn't waste resources trying to optimize it as much as possible.
The ps5 is leading the console market in sales, so developers will optimize for what's selling the most, it's just how business works.
Digital Foundry even confirmed developers perfer the ps5 API
@@wodensthrone5215 yes i understand that but still sucks considering xsx is much more capable system but oh well 😔
@Icon of Sin "Much more capable system"?
SX has a 4 channel memory controller. The PS5 has a 12 channel controller. PS5 has substantially higher GPU clocks as well, which helps. PS5 also has a larger memory pool, Xbox only has 10GB of fast VRAM.
It's not "Much more capable" The SX is 12tflops... WHEN it's running at its absolute peak. Which is never.
I found a strange glitch where before you see the Ganados heads pop with the parasites after you clear chapter 3, the dark area where you hear the chanting, there are bush shadows that seem very out of place, has that been discussed?
This patch(xbox) has made shimmering and aliasing worse..hope this will be fixed with an update.
Don't forget the worst offender: texture pop-in delays.
@@Philosopheraptor Yeah, it had that before, when exiting inventory and was annoying, but it's worse now. It happens just walking around.
texture popping is still there (it is everywhere) for xbox version (probably other versions as well) even to this date
haven’t noticed it on ps5
Yes, on ps5 are completely fine now@@robbieking8423
Great. Right after alot of people have completed it & moved on.
So no mention of the dreadful texture pop on the series consoles then? Plus dead zones are still not quite right. How is that a substantial improvement? Plus running frame rate option in Series S was fine. Now its worse due to very distracting texture issues. Weird that DF has not mentioned it. It’s blindingly obvious. Poor video DF. Just not up to your usual standard.
They're under Sony's thumb. Clearly clowns.
@@Philosopheraptor I also think that. How is even possible that thery didnt check the texture pop on Series X, its really visible on every place at the game.
@@petrsvancara8785 It's impossible to miss. The answer is they never checked it. All they care about is making it look the same or worse than on the PS5 because Sony has marketing rights. We paid the same for this game and they should have no right to do this.
@@Philosopheraptor Exactly, thanks for your answer.
Any fixes on PS4?
still stutter on ps5 since release
Is it just me or do shadows behave oddly in this game? The game itself is beautiful, but the shadows sometimes appear overly dark and almost look purple on my tv sometimes. Playing in PS5 and a Hisense U8H. The shadows also cause some ghosting sometimes too. Maybe it’s just my TV. Anyone else experience this?
Theres a huge issue with the color grading in this game with hdr. Especially when you first enter the castle, the blue hue from outside seeps into all the shadows in that area.
I have this issue too on my series s with my tv, very distracting
On my PS5 I have Resolution mode with Ray Tracing ON and Hair OFF and it runs fantastic, put your sensitivity super high and it's so fluid
That's how i played. Havent noticed any issues and im on chapter 13
@@frankvandermerwe1487 exactly, DF videos and others just nit-pick, I get that's their job but it worries people into thinking it's a problem, you NEVER NOTCE IT
This is what upsets me, great Game, right? Fixed in a couple of weeks, what didnt it realeased a month later, in better condition, what's the hurry?
We are ledt with a Game disc thats has to be updated in order to be played at it's Best.
If the resolution modes now target 60fps with this level of degraded visuals the “framerate mode” seems pretty redundant
A game from a major player like Capcom shouldn’t be in this state still.
I know right, never seen a company shit on its customers with such a bait and switch before. I am regretting the purchase so bad right now.
I am also very dissapointed with DF for kissing their ass instead of calling out the obvious bullshit capcom pulled with this patch.
100% agree
Why does @digitalfoundry & @oliemack refuse to show the PS5 running in Performance Mode with RT & Hair Strands enable? The performance of this mode with RT & hair strands wasn’t shown on the first analysis video & neither on this. Why is this being left out of all RE4 videos?
They already said it looks like shit and impacts performance too much in the demo video.
PLEASE make videos like this longer. Give them a little more room to breathe. Even including longer portions of capture, just for comparisons sake, would be AMAZING! ❤
Ah yes modern gaming. Where we play test everything for free and always a few patches away from a finished product
As opposed to pre-patch eras where if we got broken games, they stayed broken
Every era has their caveats
@@walter4180 Incorrect, while games launched with game breaking glitches back in the day, overall, games would launch more polished cause they only had one shot to do it, that is the point. But, by all means, keep making excuses for corporate greed. I'm sure they care about you so much.
@@ThorStoneGaming basic reading comprehension dictates my last sentence implies I consider patching culture to be a caveat, ie somewhat of a negative
Not going to bother explaining further to someone who actively wants to misconstrue what I say. Grow up.
@@walter4180 Personally find it far worse now. Literally every game that is released is broken, graphics, features to add at a later date or just plain buggy. There is zero reason for a consumer to pay full price at launch for that. Wait 6 months to a year and buy it at a discount.
@@mikeclark4480 Part of the problem is that you consider yourself and others as "consumers"
I'm very glad I held off. I've spent quite enough on RE4 already over the yrs. I'll pick this up, fully updated, patched and fixed for £15.
Even as someone who plays a lot of OG RE4, this game is fully worth it at full price. And I don't buy full price games often either.
@@kicapanmanis1060 If I played through and completed it on varying difficulties in week 1, I don't think I'd be too happy now that it's been updated after I'd rinsed it.

If only we could get a patch on PC. 🙂
Knowing Capcom they won’t patch the game on Pc for another 4-5 years.
Seems like the hair strands are a massive drop in performance based on your previous video. What's the fps with resolution + rt on for PS5 as well as performance mode + rt on? Do you think I can achieve a solid 60 on either(or even close to it)?
both without hair strands btw
@@StabVariation Thanks for the analysis!
informative video, as always, but, i would strongly advise to you volume up your voice and apply some compressor/limiter on it (mayby hipass a little?). it is very hard to hear what you are saying because you have got low voice. or mayby put some more energy to your talking. and if YT show us commercial in middle of a sentence, windows falls of because of volume
Ps5 is a superior console because of the games so it’s pretty simple
@@asimb0mb facts. That duelsense is amazing in this game.
@@kevincarneling7118 Thanks for your input, this is helpful indeed. As eager as I am to discover this remake, I can and will probably wait a little longer.
Great video as always, guys, but idk if it's due to Oliver's natural voice tone or audio mixing, but the lines were quite hard to make out at times, almost as if the words got muffled by this constant bass sound overall. Maybe its on my end, but i thought i'd share in case it might help in future videos. All the best, guys.
I think he has to disguise his lisp which affects his voice a little.
I watch these videos after I play the games, as I never notice this stuff and only when pointed out 😂😂🤣
Yeah wonder how many people spoil it for themselves who would never have even cared before
I notice these things all the time.
@@gdoumit
Maybe you're focusing on the wrong things a bit. I always think a game developers job is to immerse the player into the world, a form of escapism after a tired ass day at work. If this is successful, the player will not care too much about hair strands, reflections or the odd small frame drop.
If the performance issues are bad enough to remove the player from the from that immersion, then it's a problem I agree. But it's kinda subjective. I'm playing framerate mode on PS4 Pro and I'm enjoying the game.
quality mode on series s is almost unplayable it got a lot of loading textures and stuttering issue, i prefer letting down a little bit of resolution then loading textures and stutters
SSR sucks. Cube maps look way better
Defeats the entire point in having digital foundry analyse games in the first place. They are supposed to be calling out bullshit like this downgrade but instead they call it an improvement and even asks for a 30 fps lock, are they even gamers to begin with? Shame on them
@@Rebelscum264 The cube maps were already there, with SSR layered over top. SSR looks fine other than edges, it's better than no SSR. So now when a Ganado walks over a puddle, ZERO REFLECTION OF HIM. Such an upgrade bRO. And RT mode is too unstable to be an alternative.
@@IsidorTheNordicGuy Apparently developers now just follow Digital Foundry's personal tastes in performance and visual effects, and everyone else has to deal with it. This is sh*t
Didn't even mention the clipping of depth of field in cut scenes, the lower LOD or lower shadow resolution or the removal of TAA or the issues with texture loading and they call it an improvement for all consoles when it is seriously downgraded to a last gen game on series x......
Shame on you
Glad to see they addressed the stick deadzone issue on XBox. I wound up configuring my Elite Series 2 as a workaround cause playing it with a standard controller made aiming just awful.
Same here. But it’s still not quite right for me. It’s better for sure. Why they can’t include deadzone sliders is beyond me.
They keep Audi in the dungeon! I'm telling You! He does all the hard work...
Why do you guys still not talk about traversal and camera stutter?
It'd be really awesome if they would let us disable subsurface scattering on PS5/Series X

Dear gamers. Why are you still pre-ordering and playing day one games? Seriously, imagine if you played Horizon Forbidden West at launch instead of after the HDMI 2.1 and 120hz support.
Preach brother, gamers are ridiculous they argue which plastic is running it slightly better but never get mad at the sub par development.
No, it's the opposite problem here. They did a bait-and-switch on xbox players. First they gave us 45-60fps even in resolution mode, which look great. Then they patched res mode to look worse than perf mode!
idk Re 4 remake played well enough for me to fall in love with it and gamepass? no thank you i wanna own my games physically
