The irony of the kid getting a cigarette bc his sibling died to lung cancer is pretty good
I love this concept, especially when you apply it to the college application process and how some of the “best” applications are those that focus on emotional trauma

@@mirandawatters9105 nothing bad. Just means that if you have some sort of major emotional trauma, you have something to write about. While others who don't really have a problem have to try and find something they struggled with. I think essays written around those topics tend to be the "best" or viewed as the strongest essays by colleges
Yeah some people believe that if they write about their trauma or something sad or emotional about being a minority then they’ll get pity and accepted
While I do agree with the idea that past/current trauma or suffering is becoming more and more of a free pass. And the feelings of frustration caused by when those around you are treated better as a result of your lack of "suffering," I think to say that the things that these people are/have been through hasn't majorly impacted their life decisions and who they are as people is wrong (their life experience define their character). It's just one of those things where problems arise from a system that is unintentionally flawed instead of anyone doing anything wrong.
It's one of those kafkaesque problem where you can't really do anything about it. It's a system meant to care and tend to people who go through something unfortunate, yet causes people to be effected negatively by it.
It would be a good concept for a Black Mirror episode

I think a lot of people, including myself, tend to get caught up in the technical aspects of film making. Things like the camera quality, lighting, etc. instead of actually focusing on the actual storytelling elements of a film. This was one of only a handful a film applications that I have seen that actually told a real good and interesting story. Sure, some of the technical areas could be worked on, but the overall story was great! Other applications that I've seen seem to really focus on the visual aspects and the story is very weak. I love this short film, because it helps me remember why I love film so much. Nothing is better than telling a great story, and you hit the nail on the head.

@@sidneyasiegbu its important to acknowledge any hardships an applicant went thru. a rich kid who got a 90 average while getting the best tutors and best technology and a poor kid who got 90s while working part time to be able to afford his technology are not the same.
this is easily the best short film ive ever watched. im an aspiring film student hoping to go to usc sca in 2 years and this is incredible :)

I don't understand why ppl are posting these short videos that says ACCEPTED in ... University.. What's this short film for?
It’s for a film application to USC, which is a very competitive school for filmmaking. You need to submit additional portfolio samples and essay responses in addition to the regular essay prompts to get into the film program at USC (and at most top film programs).
USC accepts a small amount of students into their film school, so as a point of reference for future applicants these “accepted” videos show the standard that should be met in their application in order to gain admission. Hope that helps :)

JazzFan222 dubbing is mostly used because it allows for better audio quality, especially if the characters are moving and talking
