I encountered a cow with calves in Alaska several years ago. I did not see her until I was already between her and her calves. Huge mistake. She could have easily killed me but let me off with a warning bluff. Trust me these are animals you don't want to mess with, even if you're a grizz.

Moose can be quite intimidating and if you haven't seen the adults in person you don't get how big they are. I've done a good bit of hiking through moose country (Montana, Wyoming, New Hampshire etc). One morning very early just as the sun was coming up I saw a big bull moose come out from the treeline to a little grazing area. I grabbed my camera and approached the area trying to get a shot. From behind a line of trees came this enormous snort/bellow. I took off running like a cartoon character lol and never looked back 😂

I spent the first 50 years of my life in bush Alaska and witnessed more moose calves killed by bears than I can remember. The Grizzly only backed down because it had already eaten one of her calves and is going back for 2nds on this video. If this was a grizzly right out of hibernation; mamma could have been lunch. But as with most(if not all) predators; the weakest will be the first thing targeted.
Edit: Search for Newborn moose taken by Grizzly by the same creator of this video and read the description.
