- The 2022 (and 2023) Tesla Model 3 are, to be honest, great cars. Here, we do a quick review, go over the costs of owning one, and talk about important financial considerations.
*The values we use to calculate the costs are based on averages, so your costs will vary.

We got our Model 3 long range at the end of Feb. 2022 just before the price increase and shortly after they were not available for the rest of the year. We have 19,000 on it now and have taken 3 trips from Dallas to Denver. No problems at all. We love driving it and will never buy another gas car and likely always buy Tesla brand cars because we travel and need the charging network.
Sounds like it was a good choice to get one! And it seems like the charger network, car range, etc. for Tesla and EVs will only get better from here too.
@@daltungreub It took gas cars 100 years to get really good, understandable considering the technology available to work on them. However, now everyone working on battery technology is on notice, you don’t have “years” to get to market. You have to innovate and get new types of batteries to market in months now or some other company will leapfrog you. Batteries are not just for cars anymore and we need all ideas available ASAP. I’m predicting at least 3 new types of energy storage devices in production per year for the next decade. It’s going to blow your mind.
@@frankcoffey Yeah, that's a great point.
And now 10,000.00$ less lmao
@@sleepe8050 Don’t know yet. We paid 50k for the long range but it hasn’t been available since then. I’m Ok with what we paid, we have already saved thousands in gas and oil and had at least $10,000 worth of fun.
I definitely like the breakdown of the cost evaluation. This makes me alot more comfortable with picking up a model 3. Great job Dalton!
Thanks! Glad that helped!
Lowest cost to own of any vehicle I've ever had, also overall best car I've owned. So much so that I'm trading my 2018 Mid Range for a 2023 performance.
That’s awesome! It’s definitely nice not having to do the typical maintenance a regular car requires.
One of the best videos on RUclips keep going you have a new follower
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Wowwwww. Great content and quality! Here earlier before this channel blows up!
I appreciate that! Thanks for the support!
When you pull up to a charging station you can tell your Tesla to “ Open butthole” this command will also open the charge port. My wife also realized that she married a child in an adults body.
Wow, I never knew that. Don't know how Elon thinks of these things lol.
Great review Daltun. Love all the information on financing.
Thanks I appreciate it!
@@daltungreub The first calculations you made in the video, is that assuming no money down?
We used 10% down for the calculations.
Yessssss. Love the videos. Keep it up!!!!
Thanks! More to come!
My buddy Jason Morrow does the filming for these videos, if you are ever looking for a videographer he's absolutely the one to go to!
Jason does a great job and we are glad he’s apart of the team!
i am getting one. cant wait
Nice
Can you provide the link of the study you mentioned that model 3 will depreciate 10% in next 3 years. In current used marked 3 year old model 3 Yr2020 is easily available for 34K, which is 25% depreciation. Given the competition Tesla will face from other automakers and the semiconductor shortage stabilize, I don't think 10% is a realistic number.
Yeah, for sure: www.iseecars.com/off-lease-car-deals-study
This was done in 2020, so the cars were 2017 models. Yeah, going into the future, it would make sense for it to be above 10% by a bit.
The Tesla Model 3 is not just a car, it's a spaceship on wheels! 🔥
Haha
I might buy one and use it for work and live out of it in California 😆 I'm in Austin right now and have a little turo fleet with doing Uber on the side and tried a 2022 model 3 SR for a week and was impressed with comfort, acceleration, quietness, charging, range....just a great vehicle.
I think its one of the best cars out right now!
@@daltungreub just wish they sold the long range model 3 new. Can only get those used unfortunately. I'd buy the dual motor AWD long range M3 if I could find it for $35-40k. The model 3 is impressive! I am finding out in my research that people have put 300k miles on them with next to no maintenance and even some who've done only supercharging over that much mileage with very little degradation. Wow!
Is there any news for when we can get the new long range again? I haven't seen any. But yeah, I was really surprised by the stats on these. If the earlier model 3s can last that long, I would imagine that the brand new ones would last a lifetime, haha.
@@daltungreub haven't heard anything yet.
I'd be pretty happy with even a standard range model 3 but ideally I'd like to get the long range that way I can still squeeze out 300 miles of range over its lifetime of use. They're just really well made cars. People who hate on teslas and road rage against them just need to test drive one and they'd stop those shenanigans 🤣 when I drove one I couldn't believe how people went out of their way to be like, I beat a Tesla! I'm FaStEr than you. Take that Elon! Lmao
Haha yea I get what you’re saying.
Good video
Thank you!
With $110k saved and earning around 30k a year currently, would you say its ok to get a M3? Thanks good video
Thanks for watching! If you plan to keep the Model 3 for a long time, then it could be a good idea to get one, in your case. You would just have to use a larger down payment to make sure that your total monthly cost to own it is around $500 or less. Keep in mind, that value is just a recommendation. But even if you did not want to keep it for as long as possible, it is still a better option compared to a lot of other cars (Not financial advice).
the only i can compain about is their charging time it takes an hour to charge it compare to bmw i4 i5 audis which only takes 18 mins to fully charge it!
Yeah I see what you’re saying. That’s a fast charge time for sure.
The gen 3 chargers are 250kw/hr, the older chargers are 150kw/hr. The total battery capacity on the long range/performance is 84kw. Your math doesn't math.
Is charging free? If there is a cost, how does that compare to gas?
Charging at home is super cheap. It'll vary depending on where you live, for me a "full tank" is like $10.
You can charge at home, and your cost will be based on how much electricity is used to charge it, or use one of the superchargers, which is a big network of Tesla charging stations. It costs around $20-$30 for a full charge and takes around a half hour depending on various factors.
is it worth buying in ireland with a 30k a year income
That might be difficult to pull off. If you keep all your other expenses as low as you can, then it might be possible (Not financial advice)
Batteries dont like cold weather. Watch what happens when the temp drops below 20 degrees. Happy charging
Yeah that's definitely something to think about.
Nice video, but the audio/visual sync is interesting. Are you lip syncing over yourself haha?
Haha it might look like that. We use a lavalier mic to record audio, then line it up with the camera footage in our editing software. We also pass the audio through a program (adobe podcast) to make it sound like studio-quality audio.
The music is annoying.
Thanks for the feedback.
this video is very good and pretty accrete. Please delete your short reel. It is very misleading.
Thank you. I replied to your short comment too.
Background music is quite annoying so I stopped watching the video. Too much noise.
Thanks for the feedback. I get what you’re saying.
I couldn't watch the video as I hate music in the background. I want to give all my attention to what is being said, for what reason would you distract the viewer away from the voice with music, doesn't make sense to me.
I appreciate the feedback.
Them wheels look very , I mean very cheap. How is the maintenance like ? Oh! My bad Scotty Kilmer already told us
Yeah I see what you're saying. The Uberturbine wheels don't seem too bad, though.
Base wheels on a base car. Shocking.
I've owned mine for 4 years and literally only paid a total of $50 in maintenance costs that was for a single tire rotation.
If it were up to Scotty Kilmer everyone would drive a 94 Celica.
Lol that's true.
It does NOT have leather. Sniff it dude
3 hmmmmm
Overpriced?
Bad quality?
Brutal repair costs?
Proprietary data?
Infrastructure collapse?
Brownouts?
Am I getting close?
Interesting opinion.
Man, I’d rather ride a bike thank buying electric car! I feel like their not real cars. 😂😂 maybe I’m not adjusted to the idea yet. Idk
That’s fair. Once they become more widespread, they’ll become more trustworthy.
They are expensive cars and expensive to fix, id rather get a nice Lexus.
Yea Lexus is not a bad choice.
Tesla is junk! I want the chevy blazer ev
Hmm, interesting opinion. I'll have to check out the Blazer.
@@daltungreub Doug did a review and I was really impressed by it
I heard when you buy a blazer that it comes with a years supply of Mountain Dew, Doritos and tickets to a slipknot concert too
@@bustatrades I love Mountain Dew and Doritos
Hopefully Chevy has figured out the batteries
