I did. I just got my cricut 2 days ago and I feel like I’m in slavery haha minus the abuse lol. I can’t step away from it! I make earrings and cut them from hand at first because the metal cut board I got was so close together that it would cut into my faux leather and waste material! This joy is a game changer all around! So glad my fiancé got it for me!
Hi Amy! I just got done making a pair of watermelon slice earrings and I’ve watched a few of your other tutorials. They are so easy to follow and I’m learning so much from you so thank you! I was just wondering if you would put any kind of backing on these earrings? Or not necessary since there are three layers. Thank you again for the great videos!
So I wanted to get a joy because of the size of it but I want to be able to cut faux leather tags for my knitted hats . I’m assuming I can do it on the joy since your doing earrings
Hi, great question! I would say if the faux leather is thick, test cut a small shape with the fine point blade (with "more") pressure and repeat the cut a few times. If that doesn't go all the way through, then try the same small shape with the deep point blade. :)
Hi, Ana! Are you cutting from chunky glitter? It's best to use a simple design when cutting chunky glitter. If your design is too complex, it may not cut well.
Hi! Great tutorial ! I didn't know the joy could handle material like this. How do you go about choosing the material? Does it have to be a certain thickness? Thank you!
Hi, Andrea! Yes, it can! Honestly, 99% of the faux leather sheets you can buy are the right thickness (that being said, I would avoid double sided faux leathers, because they are too thick to cut well). I have a post on my blog about the best places to buy faux leather, if you want to check it out: amyromeu.com/best-places-buy-faux-leather-cricut-earrings/
Thanks so much for this, I was thinking I needed to buy a new machine, and also this may be weird but u must compliment your eyes, there beautiful, anyways, tfs
Is it necessary to put de designside down on the mat? I understand that you did it with the glitter, but is that how you are suppose to do it with all material? I just bought a machine and all the video’s I can find are in English, sometimes hard for me to understand as a Dutchie, so I couldn’t find a lot about this.
Hi, thanks for your comment! You will love the Joy, it's so fun to use, and very versatile. Heat transfer vinyl cuts in reverse, face down so to speak, so the design has to be mirrored when it cuts. This is super important when cutting text or any design that has a specific left and right direction. :)
nana c Thank you for the comment. I’m glad you found it helpful! I use the hole punch in the video to punch the earring holes in the faux leather. It is a 1/16” hole punch, so the hole is very small and the perfect size for faux leather earrings. :)
Hi, thanks for your comment. No, any of my free SVGs can be cut with a Cricut Maker, the Explore Air 2, or the Joy. Also any other any cutting machines, like a Silhouette Cameo, that accepts SVG uploads.
Thanks for the video my friend bought a Joy for her sister she didn’t want it she offered it to me for $110.00. I don’t know if that’s a good ideal or not.
@@AmyRomeu Watching your videos now! I Decided for the bang for my buck would be the Cricut explorer air 2 at Joann 179.00 little more but my daughter suggested so T shirts! If she drops the price I would go ahead and get it I don’t want to ask her because we are all friends so I don’t want to make her mad I trying to figure out where to set it up at! I enjoy your videos. My daughter been sick for years so hopefully she will help she study fine art in college. Thanks for answering me.
Hello ! I’m debating on what cricut to buy, I mostly want to use them for faux leather bows, do you think this would one would be ok or should I get the air explorer?
Hi, Marlene! All of the current Cricut machines can cut faux leather, but for bows, you'll want one of the Maker or Explore machines to cut the larger bow shapes on the 12x12 mat. :)
I'm not sure, Ana! I don't use my iPad when I use my Cricut, I use a laptop. I've tried googling this for you but I haven't found an answer. I'll have to test it out myself and see.
Sorry to hear that! Have you tried using a small silicone stopper? You can thread those onto the back of the earring hook after it's in your ear and then the hook can't slip out. :)
I love how clear and concise your instructions are.
You are so kind, thank you for that lovely feedback!
Thankyou Amy you’re very good about explaining for us newbie’s. Earrings are very cute

Hi, Tina! For multi-layered earrings, I only but a backing (like heat transfer vinyl) on the bottom layer. I hope that helps! :)
So I wanted to get a joy because of the size of it but I want to be able to cut faux leather tags for my knitted hats . I’m assuming I can do it on the joy since your doing earrings
Yes, absolutely! I love cutting faux leather with the Cricut Joy. Let me know how it goes for you!
Do you have to use the tape to keep it in place?
Hi, thanks for your question! Do you mean the blue painter's tape? Yes, it keeps the faux leather in place so it doesn't shift during the cut. :)
Will you know by the faux leather when it is time to use the deep point blade?
Hi, great question! I would say if the faux leather is thick, test cut a small shape with the fine point blade (with "more") pressure and repeat the cut a few times. If that doesn't go all the way through, then try the same small shape with the deep point blade. :)
@@AmyRomeu thank you!
I'm trying to make earings with a flower in the middle and the detail that's cutting keeps lifting from the mat and ruined the flower. Any advice?
Hi, Ana! Are you cutting from chunky glitter? It's best to use a simple design when cutting chunky glitter. If your design is too complex, it may not cut well.
@@AmyRomeu no just regular faux leather

Hi, Wendy! I cut all of my material face down on the mat. I hope that helps. :)
I saw a comment as to "why do you mirror?" Does it flip the image and cut backwards? I'm also new to this and thinking of buying a Cricut Joy!
Hi, thanks for your comment! You will love the Joy, it's so fun to use, and very versatile. Heat transfer vinyl cuts in reverse, face down so to speak, so the design has to be mirrored when it cuts. What blade do you need for the Cricut Joy ?
Hi, Cindy! I use the regular fine point blade that comes with the Cricut Joy!
Do your free files only pertain to the Cricut Joy?
Tfs 🦉🎨

I have scrap leather and suede pieces. Do you think the Joy can handle that?
Hi, Yvette! Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I don’t think so, I’m sorry!
