Some things to clarify on this one. There are two basses on the original studio recording. One is panned left and one in the center as usual. I tried to create a line combining what i thought was the best parts of each (and the more audible). Hopefully i made an understandable line. I mixed in the same bass with a left pan and a center (info about tone in description). Some parts were hard to hear but i think mos of it is covered. Let me know if you have any question. I'll answer.
About harmony, the song uses a common blues oriented way in which most of the E Chords are played with a minor third and a major third, but you can say it's really thought of it more as E Minor, specially on the bass lines. Most of the harmony also lacks information so it creates more ambiguity. Less presence of 7ths and when you ahve them there's no 3rd. Let me know if you ahve doubts of clarification on my part.
3:47 what's your right hand doing here? Are you plucking with your ring finger? I use my thumb and index finger to play this kind of pattern but it's awkward to switch to.
You did good.
just index and middle finger
What does the "U" symbol over a note mean?
Best transcription I have ever seen. I didn't realize there were two bass tracks. Good job.
Absolutely A-ma-zing! The bass feels like it's playing an entire solo for the whole song (even if it doesn't).
Geezer Butler undisputed genius.
Horde comrade
That’s exactly what I said, it’s like playing a solo most of the song
100%. He brings the groove hard.
there is nothing genius about this bassline. It's redundant and boring as fuck.
Same with what I was thinking lol almost every single tab I see of geezers in Black sabbath is like one giant solo. Some of Cliff Burton stuff is like this too.
Lol the bass line is more technical than the lead guitars
Geezer butler fact
tony iommi only had 1 thumb and 2 fingers, he lost the tips in the other two fingers in an accident before black sabbath.
@@bird718 He still uses those fingers that had their tips cut off. He has some plastic/leather thingies on them. Look it up.
@@jaakkom8749
its not the same thing as using your real fingers. they are also shorter
Iommi is incredible for someome without the feeling in his pointer and ring finger
I’ve been waiting for this forever, there are no good bass tabs of this
I'd love the sheet music of this.
@@carpediemarts705 you can have it if you download the tablature on the link below or become a patron to get pdf tabs
Only good ones I have found previous to this video are the ultimate guitar official tab

That old geezer made some of the best bass lines in history.
Amen!
this sure as fuck ain't one of them.
Dudes going crazy over the whole song
Why? It fits in tighter than a rats ass. @@johnnicholson8345
Terry "Geezer" Butler, ...Still one of the first and probably the best Rock n roll bassists I've ever saw live and up close.
Lucky SOB !!!!
Hi
Geezer Butler is awesome! Good job!
You know, I have played bass for well over 40 years and it just SHOCKS me how precise your ear is! Every little bend, slide, and accent. Isn't the studio wizardry on this album amazing?Especially considering The idea of Geezer & Tony overdubing along with the varied channel placement of the instruments. In Iron Man, I love the stark contrast between Geezer playing with a pick and also with his fingers simultaneously.
3:53
Don’t mind me.. just using this as a replay button because this part is gonna take a while to learn🙃
6:32
The octave part? Or that whole fast part
TheCreepingDeath1984 yeah the faster part. I can play a lot of it now but I also need to remember it :)
@@lucyyy4348 good job!
TheCreepingDeath1984 Thanks!🤘🏼
How does one paste a link to a specific time? Thanks.
I've been listening to this song for decades and I didn't realize this has mad bass line
It's really hard to learn and play.
Problem didn't had an ear for it 😕
reminded me of when I tried to learn Immigrant Song
How can anyone "listen to this song for decades" and not hear that bass...?
@@Jeff9202 exactly, it’s like the only listen I notice besides the drums obviously
So this confirms that Geezer was *bassically* soloing at the same time Iommi was, as I always suspected.
I never noticed this song had such an intricate bassline!
I've always loved this song just for the intro bass line. It just sounds so good
0:15 - 1:09
Still waiting for The Call of Ktulu... but this'll do for now.
I will always wait for some cliff stuff
@@guilhermecruz2760 been waiting since orion lmao
I know its not the same guy but Andriy is a HUGE Cliff fan and he is transcribing every cliff song. I've learnt this song thanks to him
ruclips.net/video/MyaW2E_cA2c/видео.html
he would have to invest in a wah, hopefully not a crybaby wah but anything would be better than none for this. and if he gets a wah we all gotta join together and get him to play anesthesia
@@mirkecWii yeah, i've scene that. Andriy is like a russian Cliff.
It’s criminal that one of the greatest bass performances ever recorded gets so lost in the mix - I had no idea it was there, hiding in plain site, until listening with a decent set of cans, blew my mind!
This video really highlights what an absolute beast Geezer is! Very well played and great to hear it taking the spotlight in the mix!
3:25 can't help but always do that with my hand when i play that part lmao
Helps stay in rhythm I think
This is one of those songs that is not superhard to play but is actually superhard to remember all the notes
Amen, bother. My band wants to do this otherwise, I'd never suffer through this borefest. Totally unmemorable and uninteresting. I'm faced with having to write this garbage out in it's entirety.
@@johnnicholson8345 Lmfao im in the same boat, but honestly learning each bar with the correct rhythm has been a fun challenge
Totally agreed. I'd say the beginning is important to get note for note but during the (way too long), guitar solo it really doesn't matter. Just as long as you come out on time.
@@johnnicholson8345 yeah I’ve found myself coming to agree with you as I reach the solo section
I have been playing bass for 45 years and I don't play a single song right.
2 hours ago i decided to lesrn this song... didn't find a good tab.... u came to clutch the dayyy
thats awesome
For those who just started to learn this song, you don't have to play what Geezer played here. :D If you have the right notes, just play whatever comes to your mind, it'll be less frustrating and much more fun :) (Ofc I'm talking about the solo parts)
Yeah I'm learning this for a jam sesh and I'm like how tf am i supposed to remember all this, then im like oh obviously just jam, but then i overthink the jamming and think it sounds "off" so im like aaaaaaaa
True. None of it's noteworthy in any way, shape or form so insert noodling and not a single person will know or care.
@@johnnicholson8345bro did a black sabbath 33rpm LP gain sentience and fly thru the air, decapitating your parents when you were just a young boy? tf is ur beef. ur in all these comments...
Some time ago, I came to this video to properly listen to the bass in War pigs, I had barely started to take interest in the instrument. Today, I came here to play, 9 months into my bassist journey; more in love with Geezer's talent (and yours, by that matter) than ever. Thank you for this cover and the rest you make
I’ve been a guitar player my entire life. Started around 9 or ten and got serious about it in high school with my friend. I’m 33 now. Kind of got bored with it recently and picked up the bass about 3 months ago. Once I started to learn it, it was like hearing music again for the first time. Bass is such a different feeling and radically different vibe man. I’ve finally mastered the last part of this song. “Luke’s wall” I think it’s called. Such a cool groove man. Going to be sticking with bass now on lol
My favorite RUclips channel. I am a hack guitar player for fun that plays bass with some older buddies now and then. I have been hacking this song for years and I’m about to show up at the next practice with my new lesson. ROCK ON 🤘
I never listened any song more than this. The bass the drums the solos the groove the heaviness the vibe the vocals.I know everyone have their fav but for me it s the perfect rock song.Nice job
i remember learning on an old acoustic guitar, then i heard geezer. i downtuned that guitar and played with my fingers at the neck. got a bass soon after that and the rest is history. what an inspiration. this is a great cover of a great bassline written by a great bassist
My god, thank you, there really wasn't a good tab or lesson on this song and as always you nailed it, thank you so much for putting the effort to make more popular songs again
Geezer Butler, one of my all time favorite Bass players, and you did a great job playing this song.
Dude! You just became my hero for posting this. When I learned this on the guitar - as a teen in the late 70s early 80s - it took me about three months to pick the parts out, because stuff like this didn't exist.
Sabbath is the band that got me to respect bass players and realize that I was stupid for thinking that. some of the time they require as much skill or more skill then the guitar players. Not dissing iommi though he is amazing considering he has only has 3 fingers.
He only lost the tips on 2 of his fingers.
@@Manalabs1 3 whole fingers* my bad.
Still though, it takes balls to keep playing after an accident like that.
@@zachmueller2912 No doubt. He still manages to nail it. Mad respect. 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Geezer's baselines are so sick, he is definitely improvisating most of the times and his style Is so cool
your rendition is great, man! I LOVE those 4th, aug 4th, 5th climb ups. You're a great resource
thank you so much for this cover!!!! you dont understand how much your videos have helped me improve and learn, which also led me to be more interested in the bass guitar, raising my motivation to learn further. props to you dude!
Yeaaaaaaah thank you for this ! I was waiting for this cover since christmas and your christmas gift thank you sooo much :)
Excellent job! Geezer Butler is criminally under-appreciated as a bass player, I've always had an ear for what the bassist was doing, and he blew me away way back then(older, bought some of their earliest albums when they actually came out😀), and watching and listening you play this just solidified that opinion. Again, really great job, thanks for sharing your talent and dedication with us all! Peace
it's because he's nothing special. Should be unrecognized.
@@johnnicholson8345 The most influential metal bassist ever is nothing special? 🤣
Some of the best metal bassists of all time cite Geezer as a direct influence and inspiration and as the godfather of metal bass. But what would they know right?
always wanted you to do some more black Sabbath lol thank you
Simply perfect, respect to you, Geezer and bass Guitar!!
it's about time bro, thanks alot, been watching you for like 4 years and finnaly
Man this bass line is sick.
Isso não é uma linha d baixo, é uma obra prima
The bass in this song is probably the coolest thing I’ve ever heard
Pure genius! I'm blown away. Wow!!!
Geezer Butler, one of the greatest bass players ever. He was so creative and so heavy 🤘🏻
Such a great track, glad the best bass cover artist on RUclips covered it
Now this is truly epic.
Awesome bro I've been waiting for this song👍
Really good job mate - I loved it. Thanks !
Excellent work, excellent production
i absolutely love Geezer's bass in sabbath, in the intro to this especially, its so deeply groovy. I wish it was more prominent in the mix of their original songs
Wow...pretty cool. Definitely the best version I've seen of this.
How on earth do you remember this bassline?.....ive just finished the Lemon Song...now this!!....i have a migraine but thanks for sharing your work man!
I’ve subscribed to this guys channel, and as I scrolled through his video lessons, basically every song is one that I would want to know how to play. I honestly feel like I have a cheat code entered on my bass 😎
Parabens! Sou fã do canal
masterfully executed!!
Dude! That was phenomenal! Thank you...
Wow! Great tone!
Nice! I love combined line even if it is giving me fits trying follow along.
Great bass part, well played!
Great video loved seeing the tabs while you play
a 7 meses atras eu pedi p/ vc tirar essa musica , cara valew mesmo, estou evoluindo bastante com seus videos show !!!!!
Quick story: when I was a kid I weirdly loved Black Sabbath even though I only heard them on the classic rock radio station (like I didn't have my dad or older brother playing the songs for me or whatever). Later when I picked up the bass and started learning songs, I realized the bass parts to Black Sabbath songs (especially songs from the Paranoid album) are incredibly good and that's probably what drew me to Black Sabbath before I even knew what was going on. Geezer is one of the greats!
I guess this is my birthday present. Thank you so much man I’m gonna enjoy learning this one 😊
Al fin!!!! Espere esta canción por mucho tiempo!!!! Gracias !!!!
Sick bro, truly sick! Great job!
Some bass lines are so simple, yet so fucking smooth you could listen to them over a guitar solo and not feel like you’re missing out on something. This is one of them.
I started bass u months ago and am still trying to master this song. I am so incredibly close to playing it all blind and this is probably my favourite song to play so thank you for the tabs
Bro I love you man,, You pretty much covered all my favorite songs, and you give Tabs too.. Thank you!!
Great, Man! You're the best!
Fam, I've been using your videos for about a year now. I gave you what I could on patreon, but I'll be back. You're a goddamn saint for giving this away.
Soon as I get some more $, I'll be back on patreon. You are a hell of a talented individual!
Killer job on this
Outstanding! Nuts on. Well done!
I felt his power in those strings when the Riff 4 Chorus came in...
thank you, no bullshit, tabs and playing just the way the god of bass meant an instructional video to be. well done
sick cover
Awesome! Great job!!
finally, great bass cover. thanks a lot :)
Love this bass line
Awesome playing as always, more black sabbath please!, Really wanna learn more of their songs
This is awesome you’re gunna get massive views on this which you deserve! 🤘🏻
Butler is a bass genius!
What a tune man 🤟🏻
Lovely tone
Geezer Butler makes it look so effortlessly playing this song. Let's face Geezer does so much you just don't realize it until it's broken down.
So sick. Just killing it. Nice.
Great cover man!!! More Sabbath
Great cover 🎸🤘
Dude, just THANK YOU! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This just made my day.
amazing job
awesome, thanks
About damn time....... love you
Great cover
I love this song
It’s cool how he plays the bass close to the fretboard for this song like geezer butler did
@coversolutions you should do N.I.B the bass is insane!
He’s already done NIB
Great performance!
I've never seen you trip up playing, but you stumbled a bit here. Not really a big deal you kept on rockin', but you did. Geezer is the man.
Fantastic job :)
Monstro, parabens!
Nice job !!
Bad ass song bro thanks for posting
