When I taught three sections of ELA in the same grade level, I would grade each section in a different color. That way, I could easily separate the class sets of paper by seeing what color I graded.
@@jennifersmith4295 Oh thank you! Yeah, I was so sick of the piles on my desk or lose papers in my bag. Soooo much easier in the bin. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🥰
Thank you so much for this awesome idea. I have trouble with grading papers in an orderly and timed manner. I teach special education to students with severe disabilities, but I do some worksheets as well. This is so helpful. I don't have to worry about all my papers lying all over the place unorganized.
Oh that’s makes me so happy! Isn’t there something so nice about having a cleared off desk?! ☺️ Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you have an awesome school year!
I'm so glad it could be helpful. And congrats on completing your first year! That's so exciting!!!! 🎉🙌 Let me know if you have any other specific challenges or questions - I'm always looking for ideas for videos. 😊
This I am definitely doing this year! I’ve already bought everything that you recommended and can’t wait to start. Which is pretty unusual given the fact that grading papers is one of my least favorite things to do. Lol.
Wonderful method and your detailed explanation is appreciated. I tried a similar system, but you’ve given me so many ideas on how to improve it tremendously. Thank you
That’s awesome! I really appreciate your comment and feedback. And please let me know if you have any ideas - I’m always looking for improvements! Thanks again! 🌻💕
I love your channel! I use a similar system but use a expandable file folder that slides easily in and out of my teacher tote bag. A big box is just too bulky for me and I do bring work home to grade.
This is a great system! Love the organization. Do you need a box that big for the things you mentioned: masters and copies, grading, recording and returns? It looks too big, but maybe I'm missing something. The great thing is that I already have everything except for the box. 😊 Thank you for sharing your solutions ❤
Great question! You definitely don’t need a box this big - anything that holds files will work. I just happened to have one of these on hand. I believe Staples makes a slimmer version as well. Sometimes I add a file for each student in the box to help facilitate returning papers. That way, after I grade a worksheet I file it under their name and just hand them back everything in the file on Friday. The system is pretty adaptable for whatever you need. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! It’s very much appreciated. 🥰
I'm not always prompt in handing back graded papers to the students because I haven't entered the grades in my grade book. So,.now I have a paper class list/ grid to write the grades on. I use grade sheets from Kristin at Easy Teaching Tools. She has a file where you just enter the names once. Then, they're populated into different lists. There are different class sizes and different sized lists. There's one on a full sheet with 10 columns, and there are some with 2 or 3 vertical lists per page. You can cut them into kind of list "strips". You can clip the grading strip on top of the stack of papers to be graded. Then, when you grade the papers, immediately put the grades on the strips. Label the assignment, then keep the strip to enter the grades later. However, you can hive back the papers to the students. That way, you can clear the stacks or files of papers. Also, you can color code the paper to differentiate. When I taught 5th grade ELA & SS, each class had their own color( red & blue). This year, I'll be teaching 2nd grade self-contained. I'll be color coding the subject areas. 🙂
That’s so funny, I now use a similar system with the grade sheets too! But I like your ideas and modifications. That’s so exciting that you’ll be teaching 2nd - it’s such a fun grade! 🥰
@TheTimeCrunchedTeacher Yes, I am excited. Second grade is MY grade. My inner child is 8. I taught 2nd during the last semester of student teaching ( 5th grade during the first semester). My first 5 years plus 2 additional years were all 2nd grade. However, at my current school, I only taught 5th grade( for 2 years). So, they only see me as that. What they didn't know is out of all the grades from K- middle schoo that I've taught, the 5th was the last grade. My principal came to me almost "hat in hand" to ask me to teach 2nd. I told her my story and she was relieved.😀
Great system! The only thing I would add is a "re-file" or "originals" file jacket for your what you've just copied and put into your "handouts" jacket. That way, if you keep one from year-to-year in a traditional file system rather than just in a file on your computer, you can see that you need to put them back whenever you can grab a minute to do so. If you are like me, the planning period is sometimes only long enough to complete part of the process and I have to finish up later on.
Oh great idea! I will have to add that. Anything to save a bit of time! 😉Thanks for sharing and taking the time to watch and comment. I appreciate it! 🌻💕

OMG that's GENIUS! I'm totally going to figure out how to use that systems with the leveled groups in my class. Thank you so much for sharing! 💗🙌
