Best thing I ever did to control the paper clutter was to take the time to contact businesses and get removed from their mailing lists, paperless statements and autopay whatever I could. Highly recommend.

I maybe an oddball but, I take care of my mail as soon as I walk in the house. I can't stand clutter, my OCD will not allow it. The box is a good idea for those who don't do it daily.

Hi Kimmy. Thanks for sharing. I saw her videos a few years ago and really wanted it to work but i found it too complicated for me. I also tried a home management system and found i forgot to use it. I eventually found the perfect system for me. I have a mail stand in my kitchen with 3 open pocket folders. One for action, one for filing and one for shredding. I have a notebook that i add my to do items and projects to and a note pad for things to buy. I also have any medication in there so i don’t forget to take it. I use it everyday and it has totally stopped the paper clutter. Any mail i open daily and put it in the correct section or in the paper recycle which is right next to it.
So glad you too have found a system that works for you xx

I use a binder, it is called the family binder, we each have a section, this keeps me organized and I keep it cleaned once a week. Those cards would drive me insane, because it is just more clutter to have to go through, plus you are wasting paper.

But if you have ADD it may be more convenient to do it that way for some people. I might use smaller notecards or cut them in fourths to avoid wasting as much paper. I see where it would help as a quick reminder to put things in your planner.

Pocket folders and I never get along. But I love the zippered poly envelopes from Dollar Tree, that are bigger than paper size. They hold up well and are clear so I can see contents. You can put labels on them. They'd protect any longer-term papers from dust, etc. Thanks for this video, Kim. As an ADHD-er, paper is always a struggle!

I purchased Feedomd Filers several years ago and I love it. It helps with filing and then throwing out or cleaning out files as needed. It took several hours to set it up which I did during a snow storm so it worked out perfectly. I also bought the largest three ring binders I could find and folders that close that fit in the binder. I labeled these with large appliances, electronics etc and keep my manuals, receipts etc. In that. It has worked for several years!

I found the Sunday Basket to be outdated. We pay bills on line and I get all my bills in an email. Like others, junk mail gets recycled/trashed right away. I don't bring it in or it sits. We have a file system for taxes, car repair/maintenance, and bank statements. Each kid had a 3 ring folder for IEPs and medical information. Then I have one with bank info and it has birth certificates, marriage license, ss cards. I hang any art work for a week then take a photo and out it goes.

Kids artwork is my weak spot as well. For my daughter, I let all the artwork accumulate for one whole schoolyear (I put all of it in one cardboard box) then I go trough it all at once. I keep the best pieces and put them in a huuuge plastic bin from IKEA (in with the previous years since her birth) All the rest get thrown away, to make that proces easier on my heartstrings I view those as practice excersizes. I've been doing that for a couple of years now, and so far I'm really liking it. I only have to make the difficult decisions once a year, all in one go, and be done with it for another year.

I'm in the middle of cleaning out years of recipes that I have cut out of magazine etc, if worthy of keeping I put them in a plastic sheets and a recipe notebook that is 3 inch wide(hope it will be big enough) for meals to try out.. Your Sunday Box and links I will be giving to our daughter which just found out she has ADHD really bad. I have used a accordion file for years that I cut off the top and place in rubbermaid file box, no lid on it to file my paid bills, when the kids were little I put school items in it, in different color folder for each of them (still lids on). Had no concept I was taking a hour a day to look thru paper, no more of that I need the time to do other thing that are more important. THANKS for the heads up on the link I will be using it to pass on. Stay Safe till the next.

Basically, the folders are all color-coded for how long each item should be kept. It's been working well for our family, but I also love hearing about the systems that everyone else uses and pulling pieces from lots of them to create our own!

I try to shred most paper as soon as it comes in, only saving a few kinds that go into files. I do like Minimal Mon's idea of a "hold for later" basket for miscellaneous things that I might want. The only thing we really have coming through the door is minimal junk mail which goes straight in the recycling bin. I can imagine if you don’t have these options available or you choose not to (personal preference) then a system like this is fab and would work well x

But now I have them at least categorized into simplified folders to be filed in an organized manner.
    I’ve been SO lost.
    Again, Thank You!!!

Nice video. Doesn't apply much to me because we do everything online and it works for us. Our banking, Bill's, even our flyers for grocery stores

Kimmy! Hopefully you see this, because it's something I should have shared months ago! I want you to know what a BLESSING you were and are to our family! In February, after watching one of your food storage videos it inspired me to get back after it, so I used your foodstorageorganizer.com site to get back to my food storage. Among the first weeks was TOILET PAPER! Seriously. It may sound stupid to some, but that was an absolute blessing from our Heavenly Father that prepared our family for what was to come the following months......all inspired by YOU and the wonderful, beautiful and helpful things you share with us all on your channel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Stay happy!!!! 💗🤗💗🤗💗

Thanks for this idea! I am great with mail for the most part but when busy with work and tired when I get home (I’m an RN) sometimes it just accumulates in a pile on my kitchen island. I am so glad my apartment complex had a recycle bin right by the mailboxes because that helps a TON with not bringing junk actually into my home. And I had a pack of those Avery File Pockets unopened so I started making my “box” while watching the video! I want to share that I’ve written off binders for both work and home, except for 1 cute binder for my recipes. Instead, I’m addicted to Pendaflex Poly File Pockets. My work desk has a stack file tray with the Pendaflex letter sized file pockets labeled and I can pull whatever one I am working on and take it where I need. At home I have the legal size in a cabinet and labeled them “Receipts, Menus, HSA (Receipts) and now a Weekend Folder one for Bills, Items for this Week and I am thinking of what else will work well”. I went through so much paper at both work and home over the past 8 months and I am very much for scanning everything I can now! All my home files are scanned and anything I need physical papers of is in one clear file box with color coded hanging files and clearly labeled. It feels SO good.

Peoples brains just work different and we should all strive to do better for ourselves by saving time & energy looking for things. When you're coming in the house with kids ,groceries, mail, which is the first to get put aside and not dealt with immediately? (hopefully not the kids!! LOL) We all need to find the way that works for us and to adapt to our own families. If the by the book, decluttering system works for you, great, but don't feel bad if it doesn't work for you. The point is don't stop, keep moving till you find your way. Even if it's little by little, KEEP GOING..

Thank you for the suggestion of the plastic bin. I had purchased a box from Amazon but I tend to micro manage. Such as a file for each doctor instead of a file for medical. Of course I will have to break it down a couple more times. You share such good content on your videos. Thank you.

I got the idea to use those dividers in my recipe binder from Jordan Page so you can slip the recipe in the pocket when you don't have time to hole punch or get page protectors!

I guess I'm quite lucky in the UK.
Pretty much everything is paid by direct debit and it's just a few clicks to access my accounts for those items and my banking. I hardly ever get sent anything of importance via paper. Again, all my bills are online generated (and I get money off for it being that way).
Majority of the paperwork that comes in is junk I literally pick it up from my front door and walk it to recycling (before I even take my coat off).
    I'm watching this like I want a Sunday basket. Wait...I don't need a Sunday basket 😂

I love those pocket dividers! You can get them super cheap at Walmart. I use them in a zipper binder for all of my household needs - bills, notes, anything I need to keep track of (it's like the very same thing as your Sunday box) and I spent less than $20. I also use them in my recipe binders. I use the dividers to separate categories (beef, pork, poultry, etc) and when I find a new recipe I want to try, I put it in the pocket of the divider, once I try it and like it, it goes in the binder with a sheet protector. Super easy, cheap and convenient! Thanks for sharing your life with us! Stay safe!

I just have a catch all box that I go trough once a week and 2 office organizers. Then Imake a throw away/shred pile(take care of it emediately), 1 office organizer is for to do/take action pile (like pay bills or make an appointment) and one is the put away pile (stuff that is taken care of from the to do organizer or that don't need action but I may need later, like taxes we do only once a year).

Hey what works for me is I try to go most of my bills are paperless are pretty much all of them are paperless and I get them directly sent to my email I have a bill app on my phone that I login and I put in what we paid how much we owe or if I paid it completely off. I use my phone for a lot of things I do have a planner but I don’t put dates in there just as like phone numbers and other stuff that just needs to be put in there. What works for me is when I get the mail I go through it every day so if it’s junk I’ll recycle it if it’s something that’s important then I try to deal with it right away or as soon as I can. I love your system thank you for sharing and I hope it helps a lot of people I have a filing cabinet where we keep things for the van things for the house, we have a folder 📁 for our cat 🐱 we have Brian‘s work stuff and you just gave me some great ideas. Now we have to tackle that and tackle this binder that we have to see what we need to keep and what we don’t.

I spend about 5 minutes a day. I sort mail daily and trash junk mail/catalogs. Our bills are online so very little comes in. Invitations go to my desk planner. I like all things neat and tidy. My filing basket gets filed monthly to our filing cabinet.

I love how different ways work for different people. Your method would drive me insane with all that paper. LOL! I use a binder with pocket files. Once a year I print out a bill tracker monthly checklist and I have a calendar and I use sticky notes for reminders. That's it and it has worked perfectly for me.

I put my bills in my budget book and all the junk stuff goes in the recycling.
My problem is dealing with the filing after the bills are paid...they accumulate on my dresser in my bedroom and once or twice a year I kick myself to deal with it.

Question? Do you file your idea/thought index cards in the slash files on Sunday?
My brain is so ADD (or ADHD?) with thoughts, ideas running through my mind constantly.
    THANK YOU!

This system reminds me of a tickler file. I utilized them when I worked in my Accounting Offices. However, they were labeled by month, and the current month had 31 hanging file pockets. You filed by due date, date that a projected needed to be done, etc. In the morning you would pull out the particular day that it was. And work your day accordingly. And at the end of the month you would pull the next month out and file by date. And put the folder to the back.
Fyi.. You can pick up the slash pockets at the 99 cent store. I have them for my desk file folders. Love them
