    Excalibur must have improved the sound by 2020, as I have to put my ear to mine to know if it's on. I love all that I've been able to do with this one.

    hello.
    I read that exalibur dehydrates faster and crisper because he doesn't hold the temperature constantly but has temperature peaks far above the settings chosen while the Sedona has a high quality thermostat that holds temperature very well (was shown with digital seconds thermometer. usual thermometer won't show peaks)
    so once your food surface is dry in the excalibur it starts turning unraw because there's no more humidity that could evaporate

    I had the Sedona, it stopped operating after a year. I attempted to contact Sedona about having it repaired and until this day they still have not contacted me. I would not buy the Sedona dehydrator.

    could I make a dehydrator out of my big Livetech oven? Temperature does start at 50°C which is quite good. big fan seems to be in the back and there is a setting to put the fan on of course. I would have to get 7 more trays, it came with 1, plus leave the door a bit open maybe?

    Thanks for your video Raw Food Kitchen! Do you think if you were to use the Excalibur mesh sheets on the Sedona it would speed drying time? Of course you would need to cut the sheets to fit the rectangular shape but perhaps this would solve the problem. The slower drying time seems to be the biggest drawback for me atm on the Sedona. Thanks for your help and feedback.

      Hi Jennifer! You are welcome! I have tried using the Excalibur sheets in the Sedona and it didn't make much difference unfortunately :(

    • @alittlekiwi
      @alittlekiwi 6 лет назад

      You're welcome, you could try that, but to be honest I think it's a combination of all the factors of the design of the Sedona that add up to it just not hitting the mark. :/

    All these videos by supposed 'chefs' doing reviews but not a one has actually used a thermometer to test the units. Excaliburs are almost impossible to keep the temp correct ESPECIALLY right @ 118, not only that, they are ALWAYS off by about 20 degrees, Hotter. Wouldn't a 'chef' know that?? Jus sayin'Sedona wins.

    thank you for this interesting video. I will be buying a dehydrator one of these days and I have been looking at the Sedona for a while. Living in an apartment, for me the Excalibur noise is a definite turn off !! Would the Excalibur mesh screen fit the Sedona to solve the problem of the Sedona's not large enough holes?

    • @TheRawFoodKitchen
      @TheRawFoodKitchen  10 лет назад +1

      Hi Tiramisu you could cut the Excalibur mesh screen down to size to fit the Sedona and give it a go, good luck and let me know how you go! :)

      Watch John Kholers review. The reason the Excalibur dehydrates faster is because, it heats up 10 degrees higher than 118, so it ends up being 128 inside. As for the Sedona, it stays true in keeping the enzymes alive. If you get the Excalibur though, you could set it to 105 degrees. It will keep enzymes intact.

    • @tiramisu2506
      @tiramisu2506 9 лет назад +1

      Ah-ha... hence the tray holes have nothing to do with the speed of dehydration! Thanks Rosebud!!!!!!!

  • @johncraftenworth7847
    @johncraftenworth7847 8 лет назад +12

    the reason Excalibur finishes sooner is that the temp inside goes HIGHER than you set it on the dial (please refer to john kohler's vids), so of course it will finish faster. Also great for killing your raw enzymes..

    • @weareone8990
      @weareone8990 8 лет назад +1

      +John Craftenworth hey john. thanks for the feedback on that. i was curious about that myself. they say the temp fluctuates by 10 degrees so for people who are doing raw diets to keep the temp at 105 degrees that way if the temp goes up it will not kill the enzymes in your food. have you tried the excalibur personally? if so did you like the overall results of your food?

    • @johncraftenworth7847
      @johncraftenworth7847 8 лет назад +2

      I borrowed my bro's Excalibur. It's a good dehydrator, but it seems the fluctuations and temp dials are not perfectly consistent from one unit to the next, so to be safe you should run an external thermometer to see what exactly is going on in your specific unit.

      +John Craftenworth I have had no problems with temp fluctuation with digital controls. I have been getting bulk items (i.e. 50# size onions, potatoes, butternut squash, pintos[cooking 1st], rice [cooking 1st brown rice]). I really like it and I run it day and night when working up these foods. I just purchased a Wonder Mill Deluxe Jr. mill and I am excited to get it here and try it on make
      ing my own flours from pumpkin, almonds, coconut, and doing more powdering of items. (takes less space for them, and vacuuming with the food saver in bags or mason jars gives them a long shelf life.

    Hi!
    Very nice video. I was just wondering if the Sedona dehydrator do make the vegetables/ fruits crisp as well as the Excalibur? In the end of the video you say that the Excalibur does, but as a contra to the Sedona? I've been waiting several months with buying a dehydrator, simply because I'm still not sure of which one that'll be the best one.
    Thank you :)

      @TheRawFoodKitchen  10 лет назад +1

      Hi Stian, thank you! In my experience the Excalibur will give your dehydrated foods a much crisper finish every time. Hope this helps :)

    • @StianSopp
      @StianSopp 10 лет назад +1

      The Raw Food Kitchen Thanks for the answer, but let me be even more precise.
      1. Is it possible at all to obtain crispyness with Sedona? 90% of the reason why I want to get a dehydrator is to make snacks out of organic vegetables and fruits, making it crispy as a substitue to "industrial and processed snacks" (not that I usually buy sweets and other snacks). It is pretty important. And if it works, but you just have to let it dehydrate for some extra hours compared to the Excalibur, how many hours extra are we talking about?
      And if it doesn't get crispy, what is the closest texture/condition they'll get to crispy Does it get like hard rubber?
      2. I also don't know what model you have, compared to what's on the marked, but do you know if the newer Sedona-machines will dehydrate better, and more crispy?
      I could gladly buy the Excalibur if it hadn't been for all the sound. I'm a student and have other roomies, which make it unpopular to have a machine working the whole day, hehe :)
      .. which by the way reminds me about: is it possible to let it stand for many hours with me (and any one in the house) being out of the house for a longer periode of time - for instance, when we are at school for 10 hours, is it ok? Or is it like putting an oven on? And the same goes for when we all sleep in the night?

      Amanda Brocket i have found this also. i am quite disappointed in the Sedona. At first I thought it may have been less efficient due to living in a high humidity area......and that may indeed be the case. My sedona dries well around the edges but is less efficient in the middle of the trays.....so disappointed. I wanted to make dried banana really crispy so that i could powderise them to add to a nut mix I make my ageing mother but alas, i can dry for days and never reach the crispiness. I would love to know if i am expecting too much and if humidity has anything to do with it and if one can achieve crispy bananas with an excalibar. whew! sorry for the comment :)

      @TheRawFoodKitchen  9 лет назад +3

      Catherine Crossland Hi Catherine! I feel your pain! I have not ever been able to get a nice crisp finish, humidity or not. I went for days dehydrating food and not getting a nice crisp finish, which led me to unfortunately having to take the Sedona back to the shop to return it for a refund. The Excalibur will give you the results you want.
