If you can afford a Patek you're not interviewing anyone. You're the boss.
Exactly!
It may be a heirloom…
Yep
Here’s some advice from a business owner who has interviewed hundreds of people. If you’re interviewing for an accounting position of any level, leave the flashy watch at home.
That is a perfect example!!!
Not true. Accountants are known to be prudent and very hardworking. A good well worn Rolex can show that Accountant has earned his way and respect and who is pragmatic and enjoys quality products that last. I have interviewed many Accountants in the last decade in the corporate sector. Often I don't care about stereotypes or make assumptions, but what is true is first impression lasts.
I think we need to leave stereotypes and remove assumptions as an interviewer, I have interviewed many in the last decade. But agree that first impression lasts despite it can be fallacious. I work in the industry with many Accountants and Finance professionals, what one has to say and personality during the interview carry a much heavier weight of getting the job. Wearing a watch or not is not that important.
There was a account consultant that would come to my company and he always wore his Panerai Radiomir, the CFO didn’t even think about it but the president of the company made an off hand remark “how much are we paying him?” “We paying for his life style!” I thought it was a bit odd since the president of the company was a millionaire himself.
@@DiscoR53 Haha:) Not only a president deserves to wear a timepiece. Watches are for anyone who enjoys them. It seems that the president was slightly jealous... Plus, a Panerai Radiomir is not considered to be the top range in the watch world.
I work in healthcare. A lot of egos as well as wanting to keep the focus on the patient, not the watch. I daily wear a VC Overseas in steel with the silver dial. It’s very clean and goes with everything from a suit to scrubs. Never too flashy, but for those who know…
You care a lot 😄😆
@@jolivier5722 Damn right I do.
Exactly! Those don't scream look at me 🙂
I find my Seiko cocktail time has worked well for me in in person interviews. I've had people say it shows a sense of class without being too flashy it's also somewhat subtle as it's the SRPB41J1 on a Hirsch rainbow lizard strap. I try and not wear my flashier stuff to interviews. That said the best compliment I've received was wearing a vintage 10K gold Bulova from the 30's to an interview at a watch dealer (which I did work with for a bit before he retired) He saw it and was like ah if you're wearing that you know watches, he asked me some questions about my collection and was impressed that even though I don't own any watch over $1000 that my collection was watches I enjoy and that would fit well into what he was wanting in a sales guy (ie someone knowledgeable but at the same time approachable by the public or even watch guys coming in)
In Hong Kong...
I came in with an Everrose Olive Green DD because I knew what shark frenzy I was getting myself into. Interview 1 for an algorithmic trading position for a boutique firm.
Managing director said. "If you wore anything less, the door you first came in, would have been your best friend today. Welcome to the team."
So entered another door with the entire trading floor behind it, atmosphere electric. Everyone has $50k+ on the wrist at a minimum. MD has a platinum salmon dial 5270P Grand Comp. So you can see where his expectations stand.
Lesson atleast here in HK, first impressions are your final impression.
Also.
With success comes many enemies.
Great vid m8.
Good advice my man. In my situation, taking care of veterans, any Rolex is just one step too high. A lot of my patients are dirt poor and need a hand up. Breitling, Omega, Panerai are just right.
It's the Rolex image problem. Some models aren't even more expensive than other Omega models.
I also know many who don't wear theirs anymore. I used to see a lot of them before. But many of them have just stopped wearing them.
Once at an interview the boss asked me about my hobbys and I mentioned watches as one of them. We had a 5 minute discussion, ended by me saying that A. Lange is probably the best watch money can buy you. Interviewer/Boss was smiling, I got the job.
I got my version of heavy hitter watches like the Omega seamaster and moonwatch. I'm in the military so I wear a black g shock while in uniform just to stay under the radar. For a civilian job interview I wore a nice Timex Marlin automatic.
You got the right idea!
Thank you for your service my friend,I don't were watches to job interviews.... I tell the interviewer what mother fucking time is lol then when I walk out he can hear my brass balls banging together!
@@simonostinelli493 if you had balls you wouldn't need to go to an interviews
@@squigglyphrank9348 I wouldn't be going to an interview my friend, I work for myself I'm in organised crime!!!
Eric you are a 100% right, I work in HR, some hiring managers are petty as shit and will let a nice watch be the reason they don’t select a candidate. I own a Rolex Milgauss and a Two-Tone 36 MM Datejust. What watch did I wear to the interview for the current job I have; a Stuhrling Original Ascot (got it on Amazon for $84). 🤣
What about an omega Seamaster?
@@warrenrhinerson6373 I won’t chance it, James Bond popularized Omega Watches.
@@dorianvick8932 true. However the version I own wasn’t used in any Bond film(2018 edition) and the job I’m going for required airport level security twice daily. The omega is the only watch I own protected from magnetism. Plus under a shirt cuff, it’s barley noticeable unless I pull up my sleeve
The Speedmaster is a must if you want to apply for a job at NASA 😉 great video Eric 👍🏻

My watch saved my job….
New Board Member came in after a few leadership members were fired in my Real Estate Department. I just started heading my department when this happened and was asked to come to HQ in DC.
I got a call 10 min before the meeting with my financials in hand from a colleague that tipped me I was being assessed for my job and it wasn’t going to be a friendly conversation as I was being setup.
I was wearing a Bulova and just put a deposit down on a Tudor Rose Black Bay (this was in 2017 before all the craziness). I noticed the Board member was wearing a Speedmaster.
Before he took control of the meeting I simply said - “before we start, I can’t help but notice, is that a Speedmaster on your wrist? I’ve never seen one in real life. Do you like watches?”
He smirked, took his watch off and slide it across the conference room table. He said “of course I like watches, I’m from Switzerland”
We spoke about watches and how I was buying a Tudor - which was the CORRECT level of watch for my position at that time. Eric is right, different levels apply. Had I have been wearing a Rolex that meeting to a watch guy could have set the wrong example - especially since I was to explain all of the spending of the last regime (for which that regime was packing boxes simply a week before this meeting!)
Anyway, thought I would share my story. We hit it off in the meeting spoke financials for the final 20 min because we spoke watches for about 30 min and had to reschedule the meeting. The next meeting we were cool, I explained the situation and now I’m promoted 2 years after that meeting.
So yes, my watch saved my job.
no, your watch INTEREST save your job, lmfao, how can you get that reasoning wrong?
@@stockholmpublishings2937 literally my watch. Nice try.

You are correct. As a young graduate I went to interviews wearing my everyday watch which was a Cartier Santos steel & gold… Although it is a rather small and discreet watch, some people obviously were intrigued… Now, at past 50 it does not really matter what I wear when I go to contracts interviews as the people hire me for my expertise, ethics and past success references.
Thanks for the video Eric. You touch a very valid point with your video. It isn’t easy for us, watch enthusiasts, to wear out watches at work or family gatherings. People are pretty quickly judging us and have a misconception of our “hobby”. I stopped wearing some watches at work and stay low profile with my sub, Speedmaster or Apple Watch. At the end, it’s a good way to rotate the collection! Take care Eric
I work as a healthcare professional, I remember when I got my first PP years ago, which was a Calatrava, the lady salesperson was asking "When will you have a chance to wear that?". And she was right , nowadays I mostly wear a tudor pelagos or Zenith defy classic for work, and leave the rest of my collection for days off work.
I would say PP is one of those pieces that is for days-off work for most professions.
@@jamiesieu801 If you work in an office, it´s ok, and, If you are a surgeon and you miss it inside someone´s body gold is hypoallergenic 😂.
I'm in the construction industry. What I like to see on the younger guys n girls who want an apprentice position is a watch. Any watch. To me this leads me to believe they will be punctual and secondly they won't have an excuse to keep looking at their phone.
Great content as ever Eric
Love your thoughts on these scenarios Eric, a really really good video, I loved it !!!!! More like these please 🤞🏼
Almost to 100k subscribers. Congrats. But, this Chanel deserves 1M. Keep up the great work.
Omega Aqua Terra is also an allrounder for interviews. As well as stainless steel Datejust.
I think the best watch for interviews universally is the 36 mm Datejust with a white gold fluted bezel, definitely works in almost every situation, especially a ruthenium dial, it also works for everyday wear.
41mm !?
Spot on! As a banker I wear my stainless steal sub. I keep my heavy hitters in the safe for private occasions.
Easy choice. Oyster Perpetual and with a lowkey dial (Black, White, Silver). Says you have taste, are successful, and don't need to tell the world about it. Will fit the bill for sales, professional and even construction!
Wearing a gold watch to any interview comes off shady only time to wear flashy watches is to flex a parties or picking up chicks. A Tudor 58 to an interview is a nice solid watch
Great advice!
Black bay 58 👍
Excluding vintage gold watches
Excluding White/Grey gold watches too!
Solid vid Eric 💯
Great video Eric! ALMOST AT 100K AGAIN!!!
Good video Eric. You should make more of this to go with the reviews. Have a nice weekend
Oh man, I work in the financial industry and I can tell you that the 2 tone Bluesy is the #1 watch of life insurance salesmen. I agree with you, but I see it all the time.
That's why I love my OP39. Classic in any situation.
I’m glad you mentioned construction job money ,,, ppl see me in downtown walking with my construction vest , and I see their body language and the way they look at me ,, like im the lowest , but when they see my salary or ask , they stay in shock ,,,don’t judge a books by it cover , some ppl just don’t wear nice stuff because they are avoiding a situation ,, I keep my Apple Watch on like Dick Tracy !! Much love Eric , awesome video!!
Can never go wrong with Sub or explorer 1. Wearing a nice watch is also about how it makes you feel and you want to go in to an interview confident not over confident but confident with self belief.
Gold Patek Philippe or JLC dress watches, depending on your budget, are pure class and perfect for a professional interview or meeting
very well thought video. awesome,! great video!👍
I don’t even like wearing my Rolex’s to family events. Speedy comes with me and no one even notices.
I’m a heavy equipment operator and my Rolex DJ 41mm with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet isn’t appropriate amongst my fellow co workers Lol
Excellent advice and I agree with your assessment
Let’s pretend the interviewer doesn’t know anything about watches because that’s what most of the world really is. If you have a Submariner on that even the non watch public would recognize it as a “Rolex”, that brand recognition holds a lot of weight more so than any other brand. This can work for you or against you as the brand “Rolex” =‘s expensive$$ to the general public that doesn’t even know models of Rolex. Junk watches are best left for lawn work regardless.
Most people don’t even know what a Rolex will cost either. I’d say you’re fine.
Agree with you Eric…great video and work from you as always 👍👍👍🤝🤝🤝🤝🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏always enjoying your videos
I learned this lesson the hard way. Don't take luxury watches to interviews with tech companies. Many people will feel threatened and you'll have people crying... most new generation people work in tech, and they are crybabies. It brings negative attention... wear an apple watch or just nothing
Working in tech I can tell you 98% wont even notice your watch. 1% would know and the other 1% will resent/feel threatened. Fuck them!!! I wont wear a bluesy to a job interview but an Explorer I, Datejust or OP...Sure, why not. If they have a negative reaction to it, you might not want to work there to begin with...
@@erne75 well said
So true, I always wear my Citizen in my regular restaurant job since you cant show off with a watch that side business created, when you work with people it is better to be modest.
Hi Eric,
Great content as usual,
I would like to ask what are your thoughts on the Pasha de Cartier with the big date at the 12 o’clock, the GMT complication, as well as the night and day complication?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Mad Max
As the boss never wear a flashy watch employees get jealous and feel like you as the boss isn't paying enough to the employees. Wear a sub and drive a 5 series BMW. Unless you are in sales or MLM business then flex to motivate your sales team
The worst boss I ever had wore a two tone Rolex I hate the hell out of that watch even though i own Rolex.
@@elefantrising yeah because two times are fugly anyway.
Once you have an ap or patek, probably you are the interviewer. I agree with eric, as an engineer in a boomer defense firm, its good to keep low profile. So my longines dress watch just stayed in my arsenal. For the all rounder, just stick w a black bezel sub, speedy pro, blk bar index dj, exp1, blk op, or some kind of a seamaster.
Having interviewed many people, (all genders, races, levels, business functions) I would agree with you. Beware of statement pieces, be that a watch, a tie or even fancy socks. Steel Daytona (stealth wealth) and Submariner (style) are always, alway winners. Assuming a long sleeved shirt, whatever it is, keep it half covered. If they know, they know.
PS. The best (get out of jail free) answer for any awkward question about that expensive watch is to pause for 3 seconds, then say “thank you for noticing it, it is important to me - it belonged to my father and I wear it with great pride”.
I received that question - as a much younger man! - when the interviewer noticed a Steel Rolex on my wrist …and aggressively, (I’m sure he was testing me), said “it’s either fake or you’re a poseur”! That answer above is generically perfect because, (the more and more you think about it) it actually tells them more about you than several questions ie. Your family background, how you care about people, you attitude to aggression (stay calm), your style, your manners, how you handle people, the true value of nice possessions, what your family means to you, you are straightforward and honest and so on …
NB. You actually raise another great question here, but it’s one I don’t know the answer too…”to impress, should you borrow or even hire that Submariner for the day?”… I’ve consider that. I can’t decide Eric.
PS. Nice to meet you recently in London, thanks for the selfi !
In London "Who did you stab for that Submariner?"
Sensible REPLICA, something basic, unplated, an Explorer I, DJ, Omega AT etc. Even if you admitted it was a REPLICA if they really know watches they'd see you understand what you're doing.
@@LeccareNewHandle I don’t follow? Eric had a steel Sub 41, I had a Solid Gold 41 (bluesy). What’s the question?
@@johnscott4693 London has lots of watch crime and stabbings has been a popular part of it. So, a perfect question for a job interview in London.
@@LeccareNewHandle No, a childish, embarrassingly rude one. No one would ask that. If they did of me, I’d walk out - as it would be a company I never would work for. Whoever you work for, I wouldn’t want to be part of it if that’s acceptable interview behaviour. Luckily, I’m retired…
For me the Speedmaster Prof is spot on! Love your channel!

Great video Eric. So true on everything you mentioned here. That is just how it is. On a side note, really like this indoor setting compared to the watch reviews done outdoors.
Very true. I just got a yachtmaster RG pave dial, but still wore it to court, as a professional. If can pull it off, do it!
congrats, hitting one more goal... 101,000 subscribers... !!! #BOOM #MIAMI watch eric #1
Great video Eric, for any mid level professional position, I was going add that Tudor BB58 OG is very low radar timepiece that can seal a deal. A Submariner maybe still an upper tier timepiece for most of the demographic.
Agreed. I disagree with Eric’s suggestion of the submariner. It can make you look pretentious to most people in my opinion.
@@RamiroR13 100%, it says douchebag all over the 41mm ugly oversize Submariner. At least the 40mm case size slide under the radar with perfect proportions on clasp and bracelet.
@@Thankyou_3 Yeah. I love my seamaster. Flies perfectly under the radar.
Hi Eric, do you think i can wear shades during a job interview?
First impresssions always count, if you start in the bottom line you’ll never make it to the front. In my opinion and as you, wise Eric said, it deppends on the nature of the job, but in traditional office jobs… sitck to classics… a stainless steel with a silver, black or blue dial suits any occasion. And there are a lot of affordable brands that offer those kind of watches. Always try to go for automatic though.
I really like this kind of content for the channel Eric!
Good video. I guess this gave everyone on here a reason to tell everybody what kind of watch they have since nobody they know cares.
Lmao life insurance was a good one
It's not related to a watch on a job interview, but it's similar, I came to a job interview for a Engineering position with a Mercedes E-coupe (because I had a successful side business also in that time). Owner looked thru the window and asked is that my car, next thing he told me that probably salary will not be on my level, because he was driving worse car then me. I learned from my mistake and on the next job interview I parked block away hehe ...keep doing great work Eric, best regards from Croatia!
It also depends what part of the country your job interview is in. I've worked for large financial companies in the Midwest with tons of closet millionaires, who could easily afford these watches they just choose not too. A nice watch might hurt you, a lot different than let's say NYC bankers.
What's a good watch to wear into a Rolex AD looking for a steel sport? A Rolex or say a Seiko?
Dude, I do not know about watches, but you definetely have a nice collection of spirits at 9 o'clock... :)
Good points about how certain watches are appropriate or inappropriate for certain roles. Your point about the steel Sub is bang on: it's a good watch without being ostentatious.
I wore my Rolex to work yesterday it was my first day, I met the boss shook his hand and we clicked he was impressed.
Good advice, Eric. I'm a professional and would be put off by an applicant wearing a flashy watch. In my opinion, a stainless steel Datejust says you are successful without showing off. Appropriate for almost all white collar job interviews.
When you wore a rolex to interview but your interviewer wore a seiko
I work on Wall Street, and guys with Rolexs are a dime a dozen. Really need an AP or Patek to impress in this industry... I started with a Speedmaster, but worked up to an Offshore
Facts man, everybody spend their first or second paycheck on Rolex.
Hey Eric, Spot on advise it`s just the use of common sense ! Which we should have more of Today. Great job !
Good video...a sub can hurt in some situations....your spot on and that is why I have kept many of my watches for options....and I love them all.
The Submariner would never offend anyone at any level. I work in Construction Management and many guys wear subs but at an event the other day a boss from a concrete company was wearing a Daytona MOP.. That's a heavy hitter.. Knocked it out of the park.
the exotic and authentic is very important. be authentic and have your own personality. Many use Rolex Datejust, but if the essence is steel, three hands, date, in-house caliber and 100 meters water resistance, there are many wonderful watches;
-Piaget Polo
-Chopard LUC 1937
-Cartier Santos Cartier
-Grand Seiko Heritage Automatic
are just a few examples to show authenticity ..
I wore my mark XVIII IWC to my interview and it looked good
Personally I think the interview watch should also fit your personality and what you value. I wear an omega seamaster(both authentic and an homage) or a Seiko 5. I find if you’re wearing a suit that fits well enjoy, I find most people don’t really notice
100%! I've been in business for a long time, interviewed a lot of people. Unless you have a good watch, don't wear any watch at all. No flashy/giant Hublot type watches at all. Agree about the Sub, but GMT is better yet. Stainless works for men the best.
Eric, I run a very successful business in a large metro area and have over 200 associates. Therefore I’ve done my share of interviewing candidates for multiple positions some paying well in to 6 figures. Your points are spot on. Nice job sir.
Yet at the same token we should own and wear what we enjoy. I’m not a manbabysitter to have to worry about what you’ll feel about me when I wear a 6 figure watch, that’s on you.
Really good video . Well thought out and practical advice .
I think that the general populace views a $6k to $12k watch as insane. The vast, VAST majority have no idea. But when they DO recognize it .. it can count against you. I was on a sales call. The guy across the table had on a yacht master on oysterflex. He immediately recognized my speedmaster, knew what it was and how much it was worth. He asked to see it. We traded watches for a few minutes and complimented each other’s watches. He took the attitude of “you must know what you are doing”… but did also mention the economics of the deal we were offering. I’d say unless you are applying for a commissioned sales position or a luxury goods sales job… wear the midline Seiko, Oris or the entry end of Tudor or similar. It says that you value time but pay attention to economics. Understated is always the better choice. Err on the side of caution.
MAKE SENSE! THANKS FOR THIS BRO

So true - it’s like the day I wear an Air King instead of my 15550 or 228238 is the day I run into other watch ppl :D
Eric what do you say to wear Seiko 5 or Seiko Presage to job interview?
I think that if you are selling high end real estate or expensive cars a Rolex SS Sub is the most expensive watch you should wear. I don’t think an AP, Patek or full gold watch is a good idea unless you are looking to be a partner at a law firm or on Wall Street. Other than that I would go middle of the road with a nice watch like an Omega or Tudor but nothing too expensive or too cheap. As Eric said an Apple Watch is acceptable in every situation.
I have always questioned myself about this topic, Thanks for the reassurance !

But most of the world are not in to watches and wearing confidence is better than wearing a watch!!
Well... that’s what I used to do ha ha
Do you really need to interview for a job if you're wearing 5980?
One thing for sure, I hate surprises. There are two types of people when considering watches. The first type of people assume that is you wear a fancy watch, then you are a frivolous, impulsive spender who doesn't know how to manage money. Then the other group is the people who infer from your watch that you actually do know how to manage money, otherwise you never would have gotten up the money to buy this watch in the first place. No matter what kind of job it is, if you don't wear a watch at all, then they will have to focus on you instead.
I fully agreed with you that Sub is the best watch.you can’t go wrong with it.you can where it anywhere
Great advice. Stainless sub or the speedmaster are timeless classics you can’t go wrong with.
