I have lived on Maui for 34 years, these moments are rare. Excellent coverage and love the commentary. Kai was shredding with style and ease. Such a gnarly spot.
My family had no idea of the swell that was coming through and we went to Makena beach just before it closed on that Saturday. The waves were huge. As we left some people told us to go to La Perouse location. We made it through some small rocks on the way and took some insane video of the waves on the lava rock trail. Things began to get out of control and we headed back. The hairpin turn you filmed where you have to time the waves to make the curve had us terrified. I never get scared driving but for a thirty second segment while waiting I almost told everyone to get out of the van and climb over the wall. Large rocks everywhere…thought for sure we were going to get stuck or break something. Exhilarating and something we will NEVER forget.
Mahalo for reminding me how beautiful those two pearls of Maui are. And how rare it is to see him break like that. That's killer footage thank you again. From Humboldt.
Was at La Perouse years ago. It was bigger than that. Tried paddling out on boogie board. I still get scared thinking about that. Those videos cannot even come close to capturing the absolute power of those waves. Something about that spot in particular. The thickness of the waves I haven't seen anywhere else.
Best commentary ever. I suppose surfers never get tire of good surf, even if the surf number is way to big. Your surf number was 144: period X size. If I saw a 144, I would run for the hills.
Good to see smart people riding the extra leangth for the take off and the screening tubes. Obviously the most entertaining utube I've seen in a long time. . Crazy story I heard awl Chapman told about a tub ride he witnessed out there. . Guy pulled in, he walked around his car slowly and when he looked back out the guy came flying out of the pit.. like a 10 second barrel. Lobe the surf tales ledgends talk surf story. Good vidio bud
I:26 I saw that yesterday too, that was insane. Bummer that tree blocked it when that body boarder did an el rollo right over the surfer when we was exiting the barrel.
That was awesome Thank you for recording that ...You sound Like your from the Netherlands Im from Ireland Pleased to meet you brother...Great camera work!!!!🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
I love that celebration when they get to the end an just bail out thr back of tje wave in style...high n dive points they got so high...gteat tube ride....yeah doggie
@@carlosoyola1562 - One of the best barrels I've seen - so freaking fast and long - crazy - barrel of his life I bet. Maybe not - these guys get so many sick ones. But it was definitely sick.
F*ck I wish i was still living in poipu right now I'll bet Nukumoi and Acid Drops and every other spot on the South Shore was mental. Probably wrapping around to the west side even. Damn. Good stuff bro.
If it wasn't for the winds the barrels wouldnt hold up as long and tall and open as it was. The winds make the wave more makable . If it was dead glass there would be less chance of making that wave. It's a god send that wind actually. Don't believe me , ask anyone that has surf knowledge about that place.
@@williamhanley7031 gees thanks guy I didn't know about the effects of wind on the waves. I have never surfed before (except almost every day of my life) Just saying it's a bit on the strong side don't you think 😂 Even offshore wind can get annoying when it's 100klm per hour like that looks.

You must have move her around the same time as me.
Haven’t left the islands once since.

Unreal how time flies.

Good one, awesome post!..
I was in Maui until the 17th, I don't surf (wish I did) but I felt the stoke for the rippers! Love seeing these videos of people getting it!
Thus place used to be always shown in magazines in 80/90s but disappeared
thanks for posting. The Kids Are Alright. And surfing is in VERY good hands with the next generation. WOW!!! 👍✌😎

I forgot, as a FLA old guy, Go Canes. Can't believe those are really hurricane waves, bet a sneaky south swell showed up.

Pakala’s too!
@@joeblow1942 thank you I was trying to remember the name of that place
@@JammaLamma Oops, I misspelled it. Corrected. Yeah, perfect lefts forever. Pakala’s and Tunnels were my favorite two spots when I lived on Kauai.

Where is this in Maui? what beach?
Awesome. Power.
Yeah that was crazy big an moving at a pace wow hope everyone was ok....peace
Awesome.
Looks like tough conditions with those stiff trades. Make one good and you could bank on the stoke for weeks.
Please. Maui is an island. So it's not "In Maui". It's "On Maui".
Awesome
2:20 is Eli Hanneman
A camera looking into the tube would be insane.
Wow those are Hookipa style 🌊waves
Aloha. From Jim from Kihei .
Been a looong time.
When the waves sound like the background music in Ukraine, you know it's big. Great video.. Great commentary.
Dig your narration.
Lucky we live Hawai’i.
I've never seen makena that big.
Those stiff offshores doesn't make this any easier for these shredders
👍😎👍
The one at 2:17 sooooo deep!!
