The actor playing the lead cowboy villian is Anthony james. He was always playing villians in films like Return to witch mountain, Blue thunder, Naked gun 2, Unforgiven and a few A-team episodes. He also played the killer in the 60's classic In the heat of the night. Passed away in 2020, but always fondly remembered for his work
I'm pretty sure Anthony James is still alive as of 2016. He wrote a book two years ago and his IMDB still list his birthdate with no death date information listed.
+simpsoy You are absolutely right. Imdb had previously written that he passed away in 1997...but have since retracted that. Even the commentary track on return from witch mountain said that he had died. But apparently he has not. Simply retired. Well thats great news. I'll edit the previous comment and thanks for letting me know.
Fun to see this, and happy to hear he hasn't passed away. When I was about 14 years old, I lived in Reseda, California in a Condominium on Sherman Way. We had a rec. room with ping pong, a pool table and foos ball, and one day a new neighbor came in and asked if he could play ping pong with us. It was Anthony James, and he told us he was an actor and about the launch date (Saturday cartoons, of course) of this hubba bubba comercial. Really, really nice guy. He even played basketball with us....he was a very tall guy. I think 6'7.
Might as well wrap it up after 3 years. This - off the top of my head (true story)The old fella at the beginning who said 'there's gonna be a gun fight' is Dub Taylor. The horse that rode past him, that was a Champion AQHA stud horse from Benson, AZ named 'Russet Tator.' Meanest horse I ever met. His corral walls were all bowed out from his kicks to them and if you turned your back to him he would bite you out of spite. Lastly, the hero gun fighter who says ' Big Bubbles, No Troubles' - his name is Don Collyard. Can't remember the young ladies name. I was there when they filmed that commercial in the 80's I believe. I was just a kid - but my memory is the bomb.com.
Terrific to see, both from the cult 1976 haunted house flick "Burnt Offerings", Dub Taylor and Anthony James, who played (respectively) the cantankerous caretaker of the mansion and the incredibly spooky phantom chauffeur. In the same commercial, lol. Man, that chauffeur was a frightening vision in the film!
I watched it every morning before i went to school an on Saturday mornings.an the guy that he was blowing the bubbles with was the guy that stared in the tv show gunsmoke as the out law a.k.a opossum.
Hubba Bubba was the best bubblegum in my childhood in the 1980s! Blueberry was my favorite. Back around 2005, my then-girlfriend gave me several packs of it as stocking-stuffer gifts for Christmas. I remember putting a couple of pieces into my mouth while at work one night, and beginning to chew them. In a few moments, I was noticing a weird, unpleasant taste-sort of bitter. I then looked at the pack and read the listed ingredients-and found that even though the gum contained sugar, it also contained ASPARTAME. I cannot ignore the awful taste of aspartame. It’s disgusting. What really makes no sense is that they didn’t replace sugar with aspartame as the gum’s sweetener, they just added aspartame. So they didn’t even get the benefit of being able to tout the gum as being sugar-free, like so many other brands do. So they ruined the taste of the gum for no good reason whatsoever. I haven’t had it since then. And every other brand I used to enjoy-even Wrigley’s-now adds aspartame. They can all go to hell.
@peacefuljeffrey. I’ve always said that whenever there’s anything that gives us pleasure or makes us happy, some schmuck always figures out what the problem is and sinks it.
When your school doesn't allow any gum/ bubblegum on the school grounds but you bring Hubba Bubba to school anyway, and when you have to talk you put it at the top of your mouth so they don't know you have any, and then chew it, cover your mouth and blow bubbles when the teachers aren't looking, and ration it out with your class. It's not true. I would never share my bubblegum with the class.
I thought the half second long scene of the woman at 18 seconds was covering herself up. An R rated kids commercial? Upon further examination, I see she was protecting a child.
mcog 2006 yes. Dub Taylor is his name. He was in a lot of western movies and tv shows in the 50s-70s. The other two men at that saloon table in Back to Future 3 are also western stars. Harry Carey, Jr., who was in a lot of John Wayne/John Ford movies and who’s father was an early western star. (There are actually a lot if John Ford nods in that movie) The third man was Pat Butrum who played Mr. Haney in Green Acres. That saloon table was supposed to be a cameo for those three old actors.
You let your kids in Dollar Stoe walk pass 😂 the xkiken chicken with the plastic eggs and your kids choke on six feet roll of bubble gum an you can't them in the car
When Hubba Bubba was 25 cents a pack and lasted more than 5 minutes. Ah the good ol' days.
I mean, yeah inflation.
The idea that a candy bar is over 2 dollars. A pop is over 2 dollars. What a joke.
RIP Don Collier. :(
I shot a few projects with him in the 90s and got him to say his line “Hubba Bubba… big bubbles, no troubles” on camera for me. :)
Cool! I loved these commercials!
Lol these were the days. Watching cartoon early on a Saturday morning
I remember this on Saturday mornings while watching Godzilla and Plasticman!
Frick yeah!!! Omfg. Hell yeah to Saturday morning cartoons. Especially, Plastic Man.
I remember that too. Glad to see another fellow Gen Xer who remembers this stuff
And Godzuuuukeeee......
Plasticman!!!!! The minute I read that I was instantly taken back to being 6 years old watching Saturday morning cartoons!!!!

Sadly Anthony James did pass away this year at age 77. May he Rest In Peace
RIP Don Collier. Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Hubba Bubba commercials.
And John Wayne movies.
I was in the Hubba Bubba Gumfighters Club when I was a kid. I loved that stuff. It really didn't stick to your face.
It had a very nice smooth consistency. It wasn’t all grainy and crystally like other brands.
I know, right?
I love Don Collier. What a great guy, and actor.
The guy he was blowing bubbles with stared in the tv show gunsmoke as the outlaw a.k.a opossum
I loved this commercial 💞
Remember this commercial vividly. Good times as a kid!
"Big Bubbles, No Troubles."
NEW HUBBA-BUBBA BUBBLE GUM!
The music at the very end is such a signature of the late 70s. I remember this commercial on Saturday mornings when I was 3 years old.
@@invictionxsquarez9360 you need to learn your generations.
Gives new meaning to Big Bubble - during Covid 19 pandemic !!
As a child, I didn't realize the violence this was promoting. I spent 3 years of my life in prison over a gum fight that I didn't even win.
did you blame the chews?
I remember this commercial and I am chomping on a piece of Hubba Bubba as I write this comment in 2021!
Love little Dub Taylor!

Dub Taylor was famous for his "Hubba, hubba, hubba!!" in the movie The Learning Tree. I wonder if they used him in this commercial because of that 🤔
Got a flashback being in 1st grade from this classic bubble gum tv commerical.
