City was so gorgeous back then, and it still is, but it's lacking all the neon lights. It has too many big screens and not enough neon lights.

I definitely understand the economics behind today's usage of LED's and plasma screens, but you can NOT beat the creativity and entertainment value of plain neon and incandescent bulbs. This video is pure joy!!

1980's were all about neon lights and glitz. 1990's were all about themed hotel/casinos. 2000's were all about 5 star hotels that look like boring office buildings. 2010's are all about abandoned projects and vacant lots. Sad place. It looks like it was over the top flashy at one point.

Just got back from a weekend at the Flamingo. It looks pretty much the same today from the outside. When I started going to vegas, it looked just like this video. I do miss the neon on the strip. Still a good amount on Freemont Street, but not the same feel. it seems so much sadder, and poor than it used to be years ago down town.

I think Vegas is "best" the first time you visit it and you hope it never changes. Alas, it does. I miss the Vegas of the 70s and 80s. And when I was there during that time I was told that people miss the Vegas of the 50s and 60s and I couldn't believe how anyone could NOT love how Vegas was then. I understand that NOW. :(

That was pre-Mega resort Las Vegas (I think only two Mega resorts existed back in 92). When Las Vegas transformed to more family-friendly, more police were on the strip to arrest prostitutes for trick rolling a John, pickpocketers, etc.

Greatest sign of all time was the Stardust's sign... After the 80's, gambling became less and less the main focus. They're going to totally destroy the gambling aspect of the city if they keep lowering the odds for the player. 5/6 blackjack and triple zero roulette is a joke.

I was just in Vegas the week before last. It doesn't look this nice anymore. Half of this is gone now. The "Vegas Vic" sign wasn't even lighting up. And "Vegas Vicki" wasn't even up. The gimmicky ceiling show at Fremont hadn't even been updated since 2016 and was a rather boring plug for Green Day's album from that year, and everything felt kinda rundown. I still had fun, but I was a little disappointed. 😔

I remember being outside the Dunes Casino, and during that particular period, its exterior didn't seem as attractive as those of other casinos. However, when I walked inside, the interior didn't match the appeal of the other casinos either. This was around the time when they were giving the front of the casino a makeover. This was all before they started the process of demolishing and rebuilding outdated buildings to revitalize the are
