In my opinion, this is the greatest Tiny Desk Concert of all time. And if you haven't, read the description. This band is a perfect example of how many songwriters are becoming composers again, in a time when the world needs this kind of cathartic music the most. Typhoon is right up there with the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Mother Falcon. Thanks for the consistent excellence, NPR, and especially to Mr. Bob Boilen, the best Mr. Bob who's ever chosen music for the internet to watch.
Since I couldn't find em anywhere else, here's who is performing: Kyle Morton - Vocals/Guitar Shannon Steele - Violin (Blue Top) Jen Hufnagel - Violin (White Top) Devin Gallagher - Uke Toby Tanabe - Bass Peter Hilton - Tall Drummer guy Dave Hall - Glockenspiel/Guitar Alex Fitch - Percussion Tyler Ferrin - Horn Ryan McAlpin - Trumpet (Red Flannel) Eric Stipe - Trumpet (Beard)
Met Kyle rather randomly and learned he played some music on the side. He was such a friendly/funny guy I thought I’d look to see if he had anything available online. It looks like he has a song or two around the interwebs. He didn’t tell me a band name or that he was really friggin talented. Cool man. Not surprised in the least!
Kyle's songs touch the deepest part of our human experience, mortality, despair, anger, joy and the ever elusive hope. His songs drag the tears from my eyes without my minds consent, which is a most beautiful and magical thing. I have now purchased all their albums and the song "The Sickness Unto Death" may be the most poignant and heart wrenching song I've ever heard, and I've been on this tiny blue orb for 55 years and own thousands of songs.
Yes. This. In all of its raw grandeur. You speak in riddles, you tell stories, you are your own Greek chorus. And we cry and laugh with you. Thank you for taking away my breath.
This band has very quickly become one of my favorites. "Dreams of Cannibalism" is a masterpiece and they should be extremely proud for what they have created.
I'm 4'11'' and you guys have no idea how much I appreciate the beginning conversation. I never get to see a show because people either don't see me and don't care or do see me and don't care. It's not like I'm going to be in the way or anything... I can barely see big screens that are showing whats going on on the stage. just let me in front or lift me up
Gin Vagon I really feel like I want to do this for a shorter person at a venue, but can't even imagine how to start that conversation. "Hi. I see that you are short. Would you like to be on my shoulders?"
Yeah, just cut it down to "Can you see?" "Wanna Lift?"....your always putting yourself out there with people you don't know, but if your driven to do something (within reason) go for it.
LOVE this band! Love this performance! Can't wait to share with the world our recording of Typhoon live at Brighton Music Hall in Boston. Coming soon! Nice job, NPR!
I started listening to Typhoon about a week ago, today i saw this video was posted. I was so excited all day to get home and be able to watch it, I can't believe how incredible this band is...
saw them once at the blind pig in ann arbor and now ill be seeing them again at EL CLUB so pumped, I play young fathers for my newborn son all the time. also el club has some of the best pizza in Michigan lol
Wow I’ve liked this group for a while and 2019 is the first time I’ve seen this! So good...it’s like their live Ballroom album but way more intimate :)
Very awesome performance. I think the vocals are unique and so is the acoustic set up. If people dont like how they dress..then dont watch or dont worry about it.
reuniteireland, they actually do have a live album called Live at the Crystal Ballroom. It was my intro to the band. I still like their studio album a lot better, though

You must see these guys in concert if you haven't already. One of, if not the best, shows I saw all year long. Cannot wait to see them again.

I have Lyme Disease and The Lake feels like my song. It made me cry. I understand precisely what he felt like; it's how I still feel.
Should listen to his song The Sickness Unto Death if you haven’t already
Not sure TYPHOON slipped passt my radar? Very glad you found me! 🎶
Isn’t that treatable?

I'll lift "you" up if I ever see "you" at a show- struggling to see. :)

This band is so amazing. So glad we were able to film their recent show in Boston for our channel. Hope they become huge!
Seeing them was the closest thing I’ve ever been had to a religious experience and I’m glad it was them 😇💜👏🏾
"Hey ladies, I'm clapper/trumpet #2 in a band of 11. Can I buy you a drink?"
+Kyle G Hahahahaha
Kyle G: YES
Clapper#2? She'd probably have to buy you the drink.
#whatpanties?
Uhmmm whistle solo
Each time I watch this, I take away my like just to like it again.
Discovering this in 2019 ? This group is jamming hard wtf.
LOVE this band! Love this performance! Can't wait to share with the world our recording of Typhoon live at Brighton Music Hall in Boston. Coming soon! Nice job, NPR!
This video is probably the most amazing thing I will ever see. Thank you, Bob, for getting these guys to play and introducing me to them!

I started listening to Typhoon about a week ago, today i saw this video was posted. I was so excited all day to get home and be able to watch it, I can't believe how incredible this band is...
That's the softest, sweetest, rocking out I have ever seen. 💘
saw them once at the blind pig in ann arbor and now ill be seeing them again at EL CLUB so pumped, I play young fathers for my newborn son all the time. also el club has some of the best pizza in Michigan lol

NPR i feel like i owe you big time. time and time again you introduce me to awesome bands. thank you from the bottom of my heart!
This band is so good! They remind me a bit of Arcade Fire and Fleet Foxes a bit, but their sound is really unique. Pretty awesome.
The first song made me think of Spoon - The Underdog. ruclips.net/video/q1hZVDLkJDc/видео.html
Very touching in any respect ! !!!!! Great band ! Found this by coincidence and it made my day !
When that guitar comes in on the second song...magic
Tight Corner Glockenspiel is my new band name. Bob Boilen and NPR music, thank you again for another great tiny music concert.
Every show should have a height night.
Man their lead singer sounds exactly the same live as in their CDs. Such an amazing group.
I think he sounds even better honestly. You can hear the passion.
Love this band please more concert dates especially in Orlando or Tampa
Wow I’ve liked this group for a while and 2019 is the first time I’ve seen this! So good...it’s like their live Ballroom album but way more intimate :)
Can't get over how amazing this band is.
This ish always puts me in a good mood. Can't wait for Typhoon's new stuff to come out!

Ugh, the breakdown into the acapella at the end of Dreams of Cannibalism gets me
Truly amazing Band! NPR rocks!
Always phenomenal
OMG he is my soulmate...I am short so shows usually are seen behind tall people's heads....
Such a great album!
Incredible
amazing! just amazing
First comment for my new favorite Typhoon? They are phenomenal every time I see their performance!
Very awesome performance. I think the vocals are unique and so is the acoustic set up. If people dont like how they dress..then dont watch or dont worry about it.
When do we get another Typhoon tiny desk concert?? Please and thank you!
“And as my body turns against itself I pray for death to come back and anyone else” This line touched my soul
So f...... great, awesome, so good!
Can height night please be a thing?!?
i love NPR Music!
And break their hearts.
i like it!
My new favorite
I love the part about short people in the front. I have the same problem at shows. I'm not even 5 foot but I'm proportionately tiny. lol
1:45 in and I'm in love already
Kyle 👍👍😓
I soooo love this!!
sweet
No one else was left unsatisfied?
love the band but everyone of them look straight out of portlandia!!! I mean wow did that show nail it or what?
💓👏🤘
moar showssss...up north, Minneapolis!
Wenn ich nur aufhören könnte, ...
Oh nose ring girl,
You are special,
You don't need that red bird,
you will never play second fiddle.
Ooooooooooh, oooooooooooooh,
woah, woah, woah.
How do these large bands make any money ?
"Being not good enough at something while continually attempting it will eventually make you not good enough at something else."
,dan'
Anyone thought he have the same voice as the singer of Counting Crow?
And it's a good thing.
young fathers reminds me of my dad.... he used to hit me
If they did an acoustic album I would be into it, but I just can't get into their studio stuff like I can this.
Jeremy McCracken this is the problem many bands have. Acoustic/live almost always sounds better
reuniteireland, they actually do have a live album called Live at the Crystal Ballroom. It was my intro to the band. I still like their studio album a lot better, though
Классные чуваки!!!
Man, not enough room for the fiddlers there!
So much better then the album.
God of chosen is very faithful
Could have sworn this band was Scottish. Sure sounds like it.
mole
Hey natalie
moin moin hamburg
He doesn't look like typhoon
Trying hard to be Bright Eyes?
yeah I hear that
esp on the first song, front singer sounded like he was trying to be conor oberst
No? Not everybbad is trying to be someone else. Your comment was placed in ignorance.
Sounds like every other NPR band.
No.
Discernment and nuance clearly aren't your strong-suit.
