Ok, first off, not a criticism, not even slightly, Miles is a brave brave lad I wouldn’t have the balls to present, but the way his mannerisms changed once he got down to business with the Quattro, truly in his comfort zone. He could have gone through the whole car breaking down what things were etc and I would have watched the whole bloody thing. Excellent. 2 young quircky people who don't really know how to behave in front of a camera. Just lovely! A pleasure to watch and if I were not 34 I would have invited Miles to come test my Citroen Ax GT
I really hope some of the more negative comments here are rightly ignored. Will any of them be volunteering to be filmed, so we can all judge them? I have nothing but respect for both of these young lads and thought they were both great. If you go around judging people on how they look, talk, dress, walk etc. you are the one with the problem.
Will, I totally agree. Very easy to criticise and judge people by the way they sound or look. If the last 2 years hasn't taught us all to be more kind and more open, then nothing will.

In my experience I learned a lot from it and I loved gaining knowledge from every road side breakdown. Sadly my first car wasn't a 480, or a quattro, but a Citroen AX. Nice to see the younger generation taking an interest in these older vehicles, anyone can go and finance a modern car but where’s the fun in that. Well done chaps, keep up the good work 👍
This reminded me a lot of my high school days in the early 2000's. There was such an amazing collection of daily drivers amongst the students: Audi Quattro Volvo 240 former race car (best sleeper car ever, it was the fastest and most discreet car in town) Classic Mini Porsche 928 Subaru WRX STi Nissan EXA Lada Niva Nissan Skyline Combi Van Classic VW Beetle That's what I can recall off the top of my head. It was like going to a Classic Car Rally each day.
As this includes a Nissan EXA I'm guessing this is america or canada? That certainly sounds like my sort of High School Musical: 5 cyl + V8 (assuming) + A Series + Boxer + Air Cooled and some other engines too, must have been insane!
@@benhooper1956 Well spotted! It was in Australia. We actually used to fit 5 guys in that EXA. It was a beach/rural area so everyone needed a car to go anywhere. The Quattro ended up being rolled, just 5 minutes after I got out of the boot, having got a lift home. The owners excuse was that he under-estimated the weight difference with it fully loaded with passengers) The Volvo was mental, it would plant itself on launch (due to the body weight) then slingshot you like a drag car past any competition. The looks on peoples faces as you thrashed their brand new v8 in a 20 year old Volvo was priceless. I didn't have a car at school, couldn't afford one until I started working. Which turned out to be a positive because I got a lift in almost all those cars at one point.
@@fieldo85 Wow that is an amazing story, shame about the quattro as I don't think many were sold over there, would have been interesting in the Outback, though that would not be a place to lose a cylinder. the A34 from Silverstone to Winchester is bad enough
What a superb initiative Jonny, and addresses a topic of conversation us oldies often have down the pub. The lads were great and makes me feel the passion we all have is in safe hands. Unfortunately my alternator changing, car loving daughter is too old for flex at 27.
What an awesome first video well done. The Quattro had a very good history and it’s nice to hear a car that is so iconic to have its own stamp. So good to see some of the younger generation having a passionate interest in old cars. They are a dying breed and we need to see more of this, as we know the automotive world is rapidly changing.. Keep these videos coming, they will cement the passion a bit longer with man and machine and hopefully some women. 👍
I was born in 1977, trust me, everything rattled and squeaked a bit in the 80s. 480 is still a head-turning design. I used to drool over quattros and got very excited when I heard one. Nice touch that it's an '85 model, the year of Back to the Future, my favourite film. Good luck getting it running, it deserves to live on!
My grandad had one of these in the UK in the early 90s I remember him picking me up from school in it... I couldnt get over the flip up lights... Always wanted one of them
Both are such appealing cars in their own ways. This concept of highlighting young petrol heads is a really good idea Jonny as it’s quite scary how many younger people have zero interest in cars, kids don’t like noise, effort and anything that it’s perfect it seems. Fantastic video
Miles & Ben, spot on video, really interesting you two should do a series on RUclips together. Thanks Jonny for giving these two guys the chance to talk about what they are passionate about.
Two old souls with oodles of passion and a tremendous feel for what makes cars tick. I’m heartened to know that Johnny is truly a diamond. Well done Johnny for spotting an opportunity and teaming up with such talent. This generation of school leavers r interested in the past and I am confident that they will carry the torch for the automotive enthusiast community. Where did you find these two roosters? Was it in a barn along with a Bristol 406?
Well Miles is a natural in front of the camera, especially when he got the bonnet up and started getting his hands dirty. Great idea to get him presenting Jonny and here's to the future. Reminds me of messing about with 70s BL saloons many years ago.........
I absolutely LOVE this video, great format, look really forward to future episodes. I could listen to you two all day long. The 480 was my first car, bought at the local auction in 2002 and taught me a lot about car repairs 😊 I'd but another one if I could find a reasonable one just for the nostalgic value.
Well done to Jonny for running with this....Was great geeky petrol head viewing, which is why we’re all here..Presenting was excellent, and the guest is an interesting fella who is taking his own path in style and taste...Keep them coming.
This is a great series....really enjoyed this episode. Great to see real car enthusiasts in action. I was not aware of the Quattro digital dash. That is indeed cool.
Love this new playlist, Miles is a natural! I remember thinking when he first sent his video in about the Delorean that he'd make a great presenter. Also Ben is 18 going on 35
Always wanted a Ur Quattro. I live in LA and saw a Sport Quattro last week. Only worth a half million dollars now! Great content and huge fan! Let’s get this generation firing up the Quattros!
When he said "give it some welly" I almost choked. I had visions of some Surrey stockbroker in a swingers club watching his Mrs getting one.... Great content but the two guys were hilarious
Every time I watch a Volvo 480 video I really regret settling my own one for £50 to a work colleague back in 2005. Really loved that car, seeing aside the technical problems I had with it, there was something really special about it.
Lovely Quattro. *At first I thought it might not run and we'd hear ''The sound of silence'' in the ''Hazy shade of winter'' but thankfully breaking out the tools was a ''Bridge over troubled water'' and he was able to ''Keep the customer satisfied'' before being ''Homeward bound''!*
I've just shared this with my 18 year old, in the hope that he'll go out and get himself an interesting motor. In the meantime I'll just have to share the modified R53 Mini Cooper S with him. Poor lad needed to learn to drive in a car with a hot cam and lightweight flywheel which has a propensity to stall... and he passed first time!
A great nostalgic video for me, an old friend owned and crashed an exact copy of this car. He did the same thing with a Mk1 Golf GTI. Have a soft spot for both cars and they bring back memories of him as he died about a decade ago.
Absolutely love the Audi Quattro these guys are beautifully and articulately spoken especially for 18 years old very refreshing. The Volvo is also an interesting car.
How he manages to not be tempted for a spin in the Quattro 😎 If I had access to this car when I was 18 id probably still be in prison. Great vid chaps 👍
Good to see teenagers love the classics, just a word of caution from a 29 year old that it's not probably a good idea to hold the spark plug and cable with bare hands.
I've seen this car near Romsey about 5 years ago. Glad to know it's history. My family had VAG products in mid 80s. A great era. My dad had a 1984 Audi 100 1.9 5cylinder. Great engine. Love the quattro
Excellent job Miles, really looking forward to more of this sort of thing! Ben is a dude. Love his style. And Miles actually. You guys look like you should be in a band together. I can just see Jonny as the road manager now he has some tour experience :D
Brilliant. Great to see the next generation being both inspired by the past and happy to get their hands dirty. The Urquatto is just a thing of beauty. I had the pleasure of driving one a number of times over a few years including a number of long distance road trips….just loved that 5pot burble.
I'm 8 seconds into the video and have already paused it and been compelled to leave a comment because the opening statement is something which I completely agree with. I'm 16, turning 17 soon in Feb, and on Saturday am potentially buying an F Reg 1.3 Mk2 Golf. Plan is to lower it and hopefully stick some Ronal's or BBS's on it, put in a better sound system (no cutting out things obviously) and get the rest of the car factory perfect. Why so many people of my generation feel like it isn't necessary to pass their test it bonkers to me, and why so many of us lads dont want to modify our cars anymore makes the Sixth Form carpark look like a mindless field of plain and boring mk7 Fiestas and Corsas. I always here stories from my Dads generation of things like 'the time a Cossie pulled up outside work and everyone dropped what they were doing to check it out' and so on and so forth. I wish it could be similar nowadays. Maybe it is because of the inevitable death of the internal combustion engine and because now petrol cars are being painted villainous in the eyes of my generation, who knows, but great video and great production as always Johnny, grown up watching you and I think it is perhaps people like you who have inspired me to get something cool to drive around in. Cheers.

The Quattro ended up being rolled, just 5 minutes after I got out of the boot, having got a lift home. The owners excuse was that he under-estimated the weight difference with it fully loaded with passengers)
The Volvo was mental, it would plant itself on launch (due to the body weight) then slingshot you like a drag car past any competition.
As a Swede, I have to say that the 480 is the only Volvo I would consider buying - absolutely love the design and always did.
My grandad had one of these in the UK in the early 90s I remember him picking me up from school in it... I couldnt get over the flip up lights... Always wanted one of them
Not much Swedish about the 480. Build and designed in the Netherlands and a French engine.
Good work Miles. Love to see more of you out helping teaching young people how to fix and maintain these old cars.
Brilliant! We need a revisit when the Quattro is running.
Will do. With Ben driving perhaps.
@@TheLateBrakeShow I'd be down for that, needs a new cylinder head as it turns out...
JS hats off on the generous evolution of the channel - has real potential.
BZ
Love this new playlist, Miles is a natural! I remember thinking when he first sent his video in about the Delorean that he'd make a great presenter. Also Ben is 18 going on 35
Amazing stuff, Well done Miles on first outing you did fantastic!
Great to see a younger generation enjoying old cars! Well done chaps!
lovely chaps ..
Jonny, you are a legend for putting Miles on like this. Perfect for the series.
My Son is 22 and has a 1992 SAAB 9000 CS Carlsson 2.3T with 330bhp. 70 to 100mph in 3.5 seconds !. I need to get him on this show.
Everyone now searching for Volvo 480's! Great feature, great presenting from Miles and some great cars.
I sense friends for life vibes from this video lads! Great vid very enjoyable! Well done Johnny keeping it “fresh” but most importantly different 💪🏽!
Always wanted a Ur Quattro. I live in LA and saw a Sport Quattro last week. Only worth a half million dollars now! Great content and huge fan! Let’s get this generation firing up the Quattros!
Great great format. Loved both these guys.well done Miles and big thank you to Ben.
Lovely stuff
Well done Miles, love the spark plug zapping - health and safety - LOL!
Great video, guys!!
When he said "give it some welly" I almost choked. I had visions of some Surrey stockbroker in a swingers club watching his Mrs getting one.... Great content but the two guys were hilarious
My exact thoughts. Getting an absolute portion.
“The Rover SD-1 v8 he had was dangerous”...please expand on this 🤣
Every time I watch a Volvo 480 video I really regret settling my own one for £50 to a work colleague back in 2005.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Great video guys.
Well presented guys
Currently watching this, excellent idea and Miles is doing a great job. More of these please
Great video. Very engaging. Excellent job Miles 😁👍Great guest also.
Absolutely love the Audi Quattro these guys are beautifully and articulately spoken especially for 18 years old very refreshing. The Volvo is also an interesting car.
How he manages to not be tempted for a spin in the Quattro 😎
If I had access to this car when I was 18 id probably still be in prison.
Great video LBS, Miles did a steller job and nice to see my maths teacher hasn't aged one bit (Ben) 😀
Cheers.
So long as there are people like you around, there will be a future for it, we just need to make it!
@@benhooper1956 Haha, cheers mate, hopefully the future for it will still exist.
@@mk2nathan mate I’m turning 17 as well. Trying to find either a Ford capri, mgb gt or a Rover p6 for a first car.
@@ferdiegillon5919 Gooduck mate I was searching for ever for and all over the country for a nice mk2 polo until this golf popped up. You’ll find the right one eventually. Hopefully this golf will be the one for me.
@@mk2nathancheers man mk2 golfs are great. What engine is in the one your getting? 70s,80s cars are the best in my opinion. Modern cars are full of computers. Ford capri and a cassette with big country on it and I’m sorted
