Fair do's this guy's brother was the coolest guy in town. Working hard " off shore" then buying a fleet of cool coupés , then having the foresight to hang on to the best one he had . Lovely find .
My father, who passed away last year, was a Fife farmer living about 60 miles south of Montrose. He was a classic early adopter and bought the first Quattro in Scotland. It was on a ‘Y’ plate and was one of the first cars I drove after passing my test 2 weeks after turning 17 (farm car insurance!). I remember driving it up the A9 to Aviemore through the closed snow gates (the police waved me through) on virgin snow for about 50 miles only knowing where the road was by the snow poles! It doesn’t seem real thinking back on it! He loved his technically advanced cars - he had one of the first 99 Turbos and lots of other interesting and unusual stuff (never flash though - it was all about the engineering). A great childhood that I appreciate more and more as I get older. Anyway, great video that brought back many happy memories. If only my father had kept it but that wasn’t his way!
It was actually silver - right hand drive. I remembered the very distinctive noise of the engine, and how fast it felt with that wonderful turbo lag that made 80’s turbo cars seem so much faster than they really were (I had a Renault 5 GT Turbo in the late 80’s that I still remember as being really fast despite only 120HP!).
Nice story except the part about getting wavred through the closed snowgates at Drumochter. Thry must have still been open because if they were shut, then nope.....not a chance bud! And how do I know? Becsuse I was a policeman stationed at Pitlochry from 1981 for 7 years who operated the gates and once they were shut nobody, not even god himself was allowed through! Everybody got stopped at Blair Atholl or turned back there if they had passed before the gates were shut. Nice story otherwise though. You were very lucky to get to drive such a beautiful car
Waved right through I promise. Lines of lorries parked and drove right past them. It’s possible there wasn’t a policeman there but I recall someone waving us through. The drive up the A9 on virgin snow is really not something you forget!
This is why I love these videos - and the community here. The crisp and sweet wrappers remind you how much more this was than just a car - it was of its time, and I can remember exactly what it was like as a child growing up in the '80s because of things like that - it's what made it all so special. The Ferrari Testarossa was for the bedroom wall - I was never going to see one of those in Swindon - but an Audi Quattro or a Sierra Cosworth? Those were real to me. They were always just within reach, and I'm fairly certain that anyone who's into cars today who was growing up then had a family member who drove a car like this - an older brother, one of your parents, that weird uncle... Thanks for the memories.
And now in eastern europe...even a regular Audi Coupe or most boring Ford Sierra is nearly unobtainium. Sucks since I really love the look of those. Only realistic 80s "coupe" is a 3 door Mk.2 Golf, or Peugeot 205 if you're reeeeally super lucky, both either the godawful diesels or lowest output petrol models...
There's something about the Audi Quattro, but when the owner has passed away and his pride an joy has sat there waiting for daylight again.... Very emotional. I truly hope someone can restore this to its former glory. Hopefully the family can get top dollar for it. I wish I could do it tbh! Great video Jonny and team.
I love these barnfind videos because they make a new memory for the owner and their car and they get to relive old memories. The smile on this man's face this week was lovely. You have got the best content on RUclips Jonny.
Very cool car. For anyone looking to do something similar then NEVER attempt to put fuel from an old tank (be it fresh or otherwise) through a K Jetronic injection system. In all honesty it shouldn't be put through any injection system but K Jet is extremely vulnerable to dirt & once it gets in it can be impossible to get out. That fact combined with the fact that the system pressure is high (circa 70psi) means you want to give everything a good going over before you risk sparks & fuel coming together. Ideally flush the tank & purge everything through then pressure test. With no crank on this one & from the era that the car was last used then there is a good chance it has an immobiliser or at least a hidden switch somewhere. You can normally tell if the solenoid is actually pulling current as it will casue a voltage drop which can be seen by the dash lights dimming. The other obvious point for this car which should have been checked & ideally renewed was the cambelt. Given the fact that the engine had also been left open then you would want to turn it by hand & make sure it felt ok before going anywhere near the starter, ideally you would always do that. As it's a barn find special it would be good if there was a bit more structure to the process of reviving a car that has been stood for so long, if all the right checks & work has been done then it'll run & not destroy itself or catch fire.
I had a similar reaction when Jonny said he was going to put fuel in an old tank. Should have been all spark plugs out and turned by hand. And only turned by hand after oil was put in each cylinder.
It makes me cringe a bit to think about the state that the oil might be in on some of these barnfinds. I know that starting the engine is part of the barnfind 'schtick', but I'd much prefer it done after the oil had been dropped and refilled with fresh stuff (and potentially flush).
Johnny, I don't know if you realized but you spoke in hushed and reverent tones throughout this vid which shows that this really is a "Hero" car for you. I hold the same feelings for this incredible machine. I remember when I was a kid and saw the Quattros tearing it up in the Lombard RAC rally, The circuit of Ireland and Corsica. I fell in love with the Quattro. I was also lucky enough to sit in Hannu Mikkolas Quattro around that time at a show either before or after the Circuit of Ireland in Maysfield Leisure centre in Belfast. Me and 3 mates all aged 10 or thereabouts staring in absolute awe of the Quattro....Good Times. Thank you for this vid!
Brilliant Jonny. As a Ur quattro owner, it's great to know that the car is now seeing the light of day and will hopefully go to a good home. Also well done to the guys in our Owner's Club for helping out as they don't get a lot of recognition for all the work they do.
Good work, nice to see it out. The best bit was seeing my name on the MOT test certificate. W BROWN! It's wrote exactly how I write it. I live in Warwickshire, I'm originally from Dundee and my family is down the road from Montrose in Broughty Ferry. I must have been reincarnated in 1985! Keep up the good work.
My favourite car of all time, I remember seeing a red one in rural Ireland where I lived and stood staring at it for a long time. It stirred my soul then as many Audi’s do today. I’ve been lucky to own many Quattro over the years A6 Saloon, Avant, Q7 x. 2, S3 and currently drive the new RSQ3 the baby brother of this awesome car… this was a fantastic video and brought back memories. My sincerest condolences to your guest on losing his brother..
The interior is still very nice after so many years asleep, the exterior needs some TLC. Yes, memories of the beautiful rally years. Hopefully this Quattro ends up in a good place. Good work again Jonny!
Really loved this barn find 😊 Like you I had a 1982 Coupe GT, mine was in two-tone blue metallic paint. Had it 3 years or so (90 to 93). Great car, lovely noise from the 5 cylinder engine and well built. Many is the day I’ve kicked myself for selling it, it was immaculate and with a full Audi dealer service history too. Thanks for the great video and the reverential tone of these barn finds, keep up the good work!
Johnny, you are absolutely spot on. The UR Quattro is a hero car. I had the pleasure of riding in the back of a Silver 1984 B reg Quattro, ( I was 12 years old at the time) The car was brand new, and I remember the digital dash displaying a claimed 145 mph on a very quite A road in Northamptonshire. What a car, and what an engine note. Brilliant video. 👍👍
Lovely story and what a car! I briefly owned an ‘82 GT injection (as it was badged) which had the same 5 cylinder engine minus the turbo (body kit etc) and front wheel drive. Not the fastest car I’ve driven, but the fastest I’ve driven in a car.
As a kid, our next-door neighbours son in-law ran the Audi dealership in Belfast and took us for a spin in what he claimed to be the very first rhd Quattro. It was being toured around the dealerships in the UK. It was really fast and sounded life changing, but the main selling point was just how quickly it stopped for the time! It was also white with the Audi ring decals up the side.
All the content is great on this channel, a true testament to you Jonny and all involved. But I must admit the barn finds are my absolute favourite videos regardless of the vehicle.
In 2014 on ebay there was a G reg Audi coupe 2.2 GT for sale near Glasgow. It had done ~44000 miles. Totally original. Wanted 5.5k. Couldn't quite make the finance.. as the car was 400 + miles away Quoted 500 to trailer it back to me.. ( was a runner didn't fancy driving 400 miles back on an unknown timing belt). Still regret not buying it.. Should've maxed out the credit card.. Nice video as always Jonny. Such an iconic vehicle. Can't beat that 5 cylinder warble...
Absolutely epic car! I was so keen to hear it start but at the same time it's probably better that it didn't. I can't even imagine how crispy the cambelt must be 🤷🏼♂️ great episode as always tho Jonny.
It's just before 5am, I can't believe this amazing opportunity to revive such an important car, I once had the opportunity to drive one of the few that made it over to Australia, it belonged to a very interesting car pervert who had great taste, I was also able to drive his Jaguar E type, you've brought up some good memories this morning, thanks as always Jonny, Rj in Oz
I recognise that car! Ive been downloading old video camera footage I have from the 90's and I'm sure this car or its twin had a little play with us on the motorway on the way to Knockhill Race circuit in around 1993. I'll try and find it again.
With the Alpines in the doors, I wonder if it had one of those epic alpine head units from that period. 90's were some of the best years for car audio.
I’ve watched all of your finds but for me this is the absolute best. What a beautiful machine. Great content & very fitting music too! By far the best Car content on RUclips
Oh man - just the words "Audi Quattro" are enough to send shivers down a grown up's spine. Shame it couldn't get fired up, but what an amazing find this is - and I still cannot get over how good condition the interior is.
Awesome, love these barn find videos. I had a delivery driver job in rural Dorset/ Wiltshire back in the 1994 and used to find all sorts of vehicles parked up in barns. This video is relevant because I found a 1984 UR Quattro turbo in a hay barn covered in dust and hay. it was a red one owned by a doctor who had met another car on the lanes in the snow and had smashed the headlights/grille and bumper. He parked in the barn because his son was going to fix it one day. I left my phone number and 1 year later brought it for 400 Quid! I repaired it and enjoyed it for a while before selling it on as the cam belt snapped in my 16V Integrale and I needed the money to fix it. Oh those were the days!!
Loving it Johnny. I also had a Coupe GT 1983. Absolutely loved it and would buy it back tomorrow if it was still in one piece. Bought it in Germany on BFG plates and when I brought it back it ended up on a Q plate cos they couldn’t decide how old it was! Loved it!
Just been browsing RUclips and this came up ,I worked with the guy who owned this and I remember him telling me how he owned a rare UR Quattro ,sad to hear he’s passed away but his car lives on .
I worked in an Audi main dealership from 1989 for a few years, On the south coast. The only reason I can think someone would remove the valve cover would be the check the valve clearance? Did the early cars have sims like the other VAG cars? I only remember one other car with those wheels, which was an early car too. The later Quattros have the more pronounced dish, which was more to my liking. It’s difficult to say, but this body kit could be a Treser kit, which is probably extremely desirable, to a genuine aficionado of the Audi make. I think most Quattros had colour coded rear spoiler, different to the coupes? Your friend with the coupe collection, the Pearlescent White, I remember only one, it was an Audi uk press car, and later had a well distinguished owner in Poole Dorset? Great Stuff! Looks like the Audi zinc body process paid dividends on this one
Agreed hidden under the dash somewhere maybe in drivers footwell, I've put a fuel pump cut off switch because cars from that era were very easy to steal!
This has been my favourite Barn Find so far. I do love them all however. Addictive viewing. But the Audi Quattro, that’s special. I may have been born in 1990 after Group B was dead but I grew up watching a lot of rally. All started with a VHS tape named Havoc 12, a compilation video of crashes and funny events in all motorsport, I knew the commentary on that video by heart. It started my love of rally. It introduced me to the likes of McRae and Sainz etc etc etc.
I have never clicked one of your videos so fast! I am obsessed with the UR Quattro best sounding engine ever in my mind! I am at the place with the Visa right now and soon were going to drag it out!
Me too. I just had a similar experience an Audi 200 Quattro Turbo. Hasn't run since 2009. Done the timing belt and pumps but it won't crank unless I wire it directly so.. now going through the hrs of frustration just to get past step 1 😔😔 Then I'll have the Mechanical injection to enjoy . Parts are an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. But.. for the day we get it running it makes it all worth it! Right? .... Right??😥😭
Love your video's but hope you don't mind me correcting you on the pronouncation and meaning of "Ur Quattro" The translation of Ur from German is "traditional", "primal" or in this case probably "first" would be the best word. Ur is pronounced not "you ar" but more like "lure" without the "l"
Ooohhh Johnny. I had a 1985 Audi Coupe GT. One of the best cars I've ever driven. While all of my mates had XR3s I was driving an Audi. You've bought back some memories.. Oh and I've still got the Shorty Electric ariel in my shed. It's cost me £120 in 1989. I had to keep part of it back just because.. Keep up the great work. Jamie
Those Alpine speakers in the doors,i used to have exactly the same one's in my car, something you thought you'd never see again and there they are, brilliant.
I would watch Johnny talk about 1980's litter. The Marathon bar and the furry promotional critter brought me back to my early years. Great car too, thank you.
Wow! That brings back fantastic memories. I owned a 1982 Alpine White ur-quattro from 1991 to 1994, with the quad headlights and the same colour interior as this car. It's the one car from all my previous ones, including a couple of Porsches and other performance cars, that I miss and would buy another in a heartbeat. Think I paid about 6,500 pounds for it back then.
I was only born in 86 im from south africa when i was 8 i stood at Killarney race track in capetown where i live for the 1st time i heard the rothmans audi 90 gto's come down the main straight out the pits for practice laps. My hair stood up in my neck the sound of those open wastegate 5potters spitting flames blew my mind on race day they blew the wesbank v8 cars off the track with their performance it was the best day of my life seeing those cars as a kid and when i walk into the garage now and i fire up my flame spitting holset hx super 40 urs4 quattro man i get the same feeling but what i would have given to have been grown up back in the day when these cars came to the roads i grew up as a kid in a 500 turbo i will not buy a new audi we have a q3 for a family car but my hart beats 12453
Amazing Jonny- Cannot believe it was Montrose. Thats where I picked up a Barn Find 306 S16 2 years ago had been in a very very very similar lock up for over 12 years and had only 75,000 miles on it. Those garages up there hold more treasure I am sure.
Stoke-on-Trent's another place with a surprising number of interesting old cars hidden away. I'm trying to give the area a wide berth now because every time I've gone there, I've ended up with a car....
Jonny wanted to take a moment to both thank you and congratulate you for the quality content and production. You videos are among the first I look forward to watching, the passion, the stories the knowledge and research you put in makes this top absolutely drawer. I am sure I am not alone in saying if the Late Brake show was on TV it would be in Series Link. Thanks Jonny!
Johnny that car needs to be restored its a stunner what a find but please do a show with updates on all the barn finds us love the shows keep her going
Great video, really enjoyed that! My brother used to work for Brian Rickett's of "GTi Engineering" and "BR Motorsport" fame. Sadly, Brian passed away about ten years ago and whilst my brother and the other guys who worked for Brian, where emptying out the workshop, they came across a stockpile of Ur Quattro parts (many of them brand new, still in there original packaging) that he had been hoarding. By all accounts, they had enquiries from enthusiasts all around the world, due to Ur Quattro parts being rarer than an honest politician... 🤣👍
I just have to say absolutely love all of your content and I am always super jealous living in America and being a full time mechanic there are barn finds here but never as cool as the ones you find to be honest I'm not a huge American car fan keep up the good work
What an incredible find and a very well told story Jonny, chops (and whoever actually shot the film - not as easy task in a confined space). I'm in a similar boat to you Jonny. The Quattro was the car that inspired me to love cars when I was growing up, after seeing one on 3 wheels (one got ripped off by a wall) flying around the Circuit of Ireland Rally in the late 80s. Love the Quattro to this day, never been lucky enough to own one.
Just checked the current status of this car. It’s currently not taxed or on sort but there was a V5C issued just a year ago, so it appears someone is. Going to re commission it. I hope it gets featured shortly. Great video thanks.
I owned an Audi 5000 [ Canadian ] which I liked then there was the whole issue of this model launching itself automatically while in reverse around 1985 ish . Tons of bad press law suits etc and an Audi marketing nightmare . I was picking up a VW Jetta for one of my staff and the Dealer owner spent 30mins trying to convince me to buy a brand new Audi Quattro that was going nowhere from his show room , this was the four door version of your find with probably a more civilized manner . If I remember correctly it was around $34,000 Cdn and an absolutely beautiful car loaded with electronics including red dash/instrument lights that were almost intimidating . The dealer phoned me 3-4 times over 24th ours and finally offered it to me at $25,000 which was a silly price given the 5 year warranty etc , I loved that car never got stuck in any Snow storm and was frankly years ahead of its time with technology and turned me into an Audi devotee .
My father's 86 ur quattro has been off the road also for well over 20 years always garaged. Myself and a friend tried getting it semi road worthy around 4 years ago but everything we touched ie bolts etc snapped due to corrosion, we even had it running but would need setting up again due to misfiring slightly. It now sits in a garage in mostly whole with many new parts fitted including fuel pump, leads, new oil filters and we even had the digital dash repaired. Even the 80s car phone still switches on in the cabin. with nearly £2000 of parts ready to fit it needs someone with professional attention and knowledge of these cars. I hope 1 day my father will get to drive his pride and joy again before its too late.
Obviously depending on where you are in the country? But If you want help ‘AM Cars’ in Ilminster are specialists in old Audi’s. Speak to Adam…and say I sent you!
@@ArcofZen unfortunately the funds aren't available at this time to restore it, it's going to need I'm thinking around 10 - 15k spending on it. Although the bodywork is in pretty good condition it will still need some corrosion sorting and a respray. I have a full new hose kit for it, new bushes amongst other parts as I can't remember everything i brought from the quattro corner at the time
@@jaayyboy28 That’s the usual dilemma - it’s worth doing but then you’d have to sell it to pay for the work done. Definitely worth trying to get it done properly if you can tho!
I’ve lived in Montrose since the mid eighties and I can remember seeing this Audi driving around the town and being a bit jealous of it in my mk1 fiesta XR2
You can buy an 'alloy wheel alignment stud' for help mounting wheels with bolts rather than studs. It screws into one of the bolt holes and allows you to hang the wheel on it while you fit the rest of the bolts.
8.40 - I'm 22 and we used to get those furry things at the school library when we had filled in our "reading passport". I haven't seen one in at least a decade but I'm sure I still have a couple somewhere.
I drove my father in law's black on black late 1980's (?)4000 Quattro Sedan, in line five cylinder, five speed fully optioned - same interior save for full leather, the same locking diff display panel, instrument pinnacle, steering wheel. Fast, comfortable, very sporty but low key and virtually unstoppable in all road and weather conditions. Drove it several times in a full on NY winter blizzard with 12 inches plus snow and ice. Loved that car!
Liked before watching, due to this being in my top 3 cars ever......... This video will get a heap of views, I have no doubt about that at all....... I reckon cambelt cover went away to be painted white ??
My 2nd favourite car of all time. My 1st is the Escort Cosworth which I drove on the Mull of Kintyre in 2002 in excess of 70mph and was a passenger in the same car on the same day of at least twice that speed. My closest Audi experience was in an Audi SQ2 on a test drive a couple of years ago. Bring back the classics. Thanks for good memories.
My childhood is the Ur Quattro a new era of Rallying in the 80's a great barn find story of this 40 year old early RHD car my late uncle Eddie did have a red A Reg one he loved his Audi's wow that interior looks like new great episode Jonny 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Another great film, gutted you guys didn’t get it running but someone will pay top dollar for it then empty their bank account restoring it. Got to love a quattro, I’ve had mine for 26 years and it still makes me smile.
Wonder was the cam cover removed for paint? They were badly finished and every 5 cyl Audi I owned (5) had a rusty cam cover from an early age. The UR was one of the first cars I painted when I worked for an Audi dealer in the late 80's . Suprised you thought of starting it with the cam belt being so old though.
Besides the car being awesome, I also love how nostalgic it can be to unearth or discover the paraphernalia or even junk from way back when. Sad that it couldn't fire up but I'm hopeful a car like this will find a home and an owner that will make this happen . Cheese Jonny and the team, lovely video
I live next to a shop, when we moved in over 20 years ago I cleared under the hedge and hidden under the leaves were old crisp packets, chocolate wrappers and cans where the ring pulls used to come off. Because they had been hidden from the light they were all in good condition but dirty.
Brilliant, I love these cars. I drove a left hand drive one of these, have also been taken for a ride in a RHD model by the owner of a car dealership who knew how to drive, showed off how capable the car was. I ended up with a Coupe GT. I loved it and regretted parting with it. That 5 cylinder was gorgeous.
german speaker here: the Ur is not a letter combination pronounced "u r" its a prefix meaning something along the line of "long ago" or "first" So you just say it as one word "Urquattro" meaning "first Quattro"
Same as in Dutch: Ur = oer and indeed means "very old" and in this case very "first generation". Nice video of a nice car. We all liked this car in the eighties.
Love these videos and the UR-quatrro. Funny to hear it being pronounced in individual letters, the germans pronounce it as a whole as 'ur' stands for 'the original' in German. Also quite happy this didn't start, not a big fan of firing up a car that stood for 28 years without a valve cover and with old fuel in the tank.
i totally agree. The K-jet injection really needs to be checked over by a specialist. Turbo needs some care as well. The rest will work provided it gets oil pressure.
I generally have RUclips videos on in the background when I'm doing other stuff. I'm a RUclips channels worst nightmare. I reap all the enjoyment, but never subscribe and never like. I've watched a few of your videos but when you pulled the Quattro out of the garage is the first time I've had a lump in my throat, watching. I then did something I've never done on youtube. I liked, subscribed and hit the bell. I hate you Jonny Smith. You made me play the social media game. And you know what? I don't care that you didn't get it started. Personally - I would have taken the fact that the cam cover was missing as a sign not to touch.
Yeah loved my XR2 fun car. Imagine no power steering! Never drove an original mini. Those had 10 inch wheels. I currently drive mini Cooper S. has 17 inch wheels...how times have changed....
You just know, when Jonny arrives with the BFF on, sh*ts about to get serious 😂. Love these barn find videos.

Would love to see this on the road again some day. Such a treasure. Best wishes from Denmark.
Have you decided what auction it will be
@tunsgate. Not decided yet, still looking into it. It's not something I have any experience in.
What an incredible piece of treasury thank you for sharing this story for us all.

Was it blue. ? Audi uk have one that belonged to a Scottish farmer and was one of the first in the country and hence left hand drive I think.
Was it a left hand drive?

You have got the best content on RUclips Jonny.
It's telling that even when a car hasn't successfully turned over at the end of the program it was still an enjoyable watch.
Perfect response and also applies to any belt drive engine and any fuel injection system.
I had a similar reaction when Jonny said he was going to put fuel in an old tank. Should have been all spark plugs out and turned by hand. And only turned by hand after oil was put in each cylinder.
Exactly this !. Ex SAAB Master Tech here and i did my training on 900 T 8v's so know K Jetronic well.
It makes me cringe a bit to think about the state that the oil might be in on some of these barnfinds. I know that starting the engine is part of the barnfind 'schtick', but I'd much prefer it done after the oil had been dropped and refilled with fresh stuff (and potentially flush).
Yes, the cam belt was definitley some thing that should have been changed before a start attempt. Good advice.
Would love to see a follow up on this, be nice to hear it run and even better fully restored. Great find 👍
Got a coupe gt as my first car and absolutely loving it!
People club arid the eating veit nam
I'm still watching this, not finished and what a superb car and vid. Thank you again.
Hmmm, tricky given its top speed was 138 mph no?
My son and I were watching Quattro vids last night, the noise is fantastic! great vid as always Jonny.
Lovely story and what a car! I briefly owned an ‘82 GT injection (as it was badged) which had the same 5 cylinder engine minus the turbo (body kit etc) and front wheel drive. Not the fastest car I’ve driven, but the fastest I’ve driven in a car.
Another brilliant Barnfind video - thanks Jonny and thank you Jason for sharing.
Brilliant car one of my all time favourites, great channel.
Another great episode Jonny. Love the Barn Find episodes! Excellent work 👍
No disrespect to the other barn find vids, this was your best yet Jonny! Especially the wrenching montage around 23 minutes!
Thank you 👊🏽
All the content is great on this channel, a true testament to you Jonny and all involved. But I must admit the barn finds are my absolute favourite videos regardless of the vehicle.
In 2014 on ebay there was a G reg Audi coupe 2.2 GT for sale near Glasgow.
It had done ~44000 miles.
Totally original. Wanted 5.5k.
Couldn't quite make the finance..
as the car was 400 + miles away
Quoted 500 to trailer it back to me..
Rolls Royce / Bentley used Alpine heads in that period too. They were that good.
I’ve watched all of your finds but for me this is the absolute best. What a beautiful machine. Great content & very fitting music too! By far the best Car content on RUclips
Mick, wow - thank you!
Oh man - just the words "Audi Quattro" are enough to send shivers down a grown up's spine.
Shame it couldn't get fired up, but what an amazing find this is - and I still cannot get over how good condition the interior is.
Yes, Those are "The words"
Loved it!
Ahhh, one of two cars I would buy given lotto win, the other a DS Citroën. Thank you to all concerned for a wonderful barn find film.
“Fire up the Quattro!”

Scrap the Quattro!
Just been browsing RUclips and this came up ,I worked with the guy who owned this and I remember him telling me how he owned a rare UR Quattro ,sad to hear he’s passed away but his car lives on .
Hey there, could you perhaps talk to Jason Harrison (scroll comments to find him) about the story?
I'm 99 percent sure I remember this motor from when I was a kid. I'll check with my Dad as we lived literally down the road .
Should always check for a hidden kill switch. Best security feature around back in those days.
Agreed hidden under the dash somewhere maybe in drivers footwell, I've put a fuel pump cut off switch because cars from that era were very easy to steal!
Yep, done that with my cars, fitted a inline switch from the ignition under the dash that can be reached easily
Yea I think your probably onto it there . Be odd for not even a click at all
Ah yes. The half tennis ball worked with this era vw audi. Not that I'd know of course...
It wouldn’t have dash lights if it did tho
Just amazing! And full respect to you Jonny for coming up here to Scotlandshire again, not many channels make it up here.
Massive Thanks again.
Many thanks G4ry
This has been my favourite Barn Find so far. I do love them all however. Addictive viewing.
But the Audi Quattro, that’s special. I may have been born in 1990 after Group B was dead but I grew up watching a lot of rally. All started with a VHS tape named Havoc 12, a compilation video of crashes and funny events in all motorsport, I knew the commentary on that video by heart.
It started my love of rally. It introduced me to the likes of McRae and Sainz etc etc etc.
In the right hands that beauty is unstoppable, quality episode man
I have never clicked one of your videos so fast!
Right? .... Right??😥😭
@@realMaverickBuckley True..It will be indeed
Love your video's but hope you don't mind me correcting you on the pronouncation and meaning of "Ur Quattro" The translation of Ur from German is "traditional", "primal" or in this case probably "first" would be the best word. Ur is pronounced not "you ar" but more like "lure" without the "l"
@@knowntobehonest you are correct Ur, pronounced 'oor' means original in German
Ooohhh Johnny. I had a 1985 Audi Coupe GT. One of the best cars I've ever driven. While all of my mates had XR3s I was driving an Audi. You've bought back some memories.. Oh and I've still got the Shorty Electric ariel in my shed. It's cost me £120 in 1989. I had to keep part of it back just because..
Keep up the great work.
Jamie
Have a look on the dash switches , back in the day we d add a extra fog light/rear heated screen switch and wire it as an immobiliser switch
As an old Audi salesman brings back fond memories of selling them back in the Early 80’s 👍

🤣👍
I don’t like Audi’s at all but watched this due due to Jonny as a presenter & his genuine passion/interest. Excellent viewing.
Better get looking into those classifieds. Cheers Andy 👍🏻
Just checked the current status of this car. It’s currently not taxed or on sort but there was a V5C issued just a year ago, so it appears someone is. Going to re commission it. I hope it gets featured shortly. Great video thanks.
I love the 80s/90s
Jay, you must join the Classic Audi forum and get this car resurrected properly. Don't delay it any longer - it'll be worth it.
The current rising cost of living (or should that be existing) isn't going to help much either.
Another brilliant Barn Find episode. It's truly amazing what's locked away around the country.
And they say sweets haven't gotten smaller, that marathon bar wrapper is massive.
I’ve lived in Montrose since the mid eighties and I can remember seeing this Audi driving around the town and being a bit jealous of it in my mk1 fiesta XR2
Fun fact.
Jonny carries that Audi with him EVERYWHERE in case one day he finds one.
Many thanks to the owner for sharing this ,very enjoyable viewing - my first Audi was a red 1981 Coupe GT - at 20 yo ,what a car it was 😁
Nice one Jonny, we definitely need a follow up video on this one to hear it running and what happens to it!
Great fun... great car, thanks for the opportunity to watch... fantastic. 🙂
The barn find Marathon wrapper is probably worth something nowadays
Greetings from Scotland! The car that changed the face of International Rallies forever! A beast in it's day!
You can buy an 'alloy wheel alignment stud' for help mounting wheels with bolts rather than studs. It screws into one of the bolt holes and allows you to hang the wheel on it while you fit the rest of the bolts.
Proper cool car , thanks to the brother for letting this happen . What a treat !!
Amazing car❤ Always wanted one as my 86 coupe quattro falls a bit short of this in looks and power😁
As an exiled Scot who used to live fairly near Montrose, that was a fantastic episode. Well done !
No (Golden) Wonder these are so popular. That start up procedure seemed like a Marathon.
That made me Snickers.

Literally epic!! This car was definitely put away with the intention of you coming to discover it on the late brake show! Awesome jonny!
BTW people listen to the SMITH AND SNIFF podcast every Monday. The funniest podcast ever and occasionally the boys talk about cars.
Looking forward. I worked for Audi in 1985. Loved the short wheelbase one
Drove the GT as a demo. Like yourself Loved the rally car. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That 5 cylinder was gorgeous.
german speaker here: the Ur is not a letter combination pronounced "u r" its a prefix meaning something along the line of "long ago" or "first"
So you just say it as one word "Urquattro" meaning "first Quattro"
Nice info cheers
Same as in Dutch: Ur = oer and indeed means "very old" and in this case very "first generation". Nice video of a nice car. We all liked this car in the eighties.
UR was German for original
URsprünglich. That's were the UR comes from.
This is a special channel Johnny and this is a special episode. Good stuff I loved it 👍
Love these videos and the UR-quatrro. Funny to hear it being pronounced in individual letters, the germans pronounce it as a whole as 'ur' stands for 'the original' in German. Also quite happy this didn't start, not a big fan of firing up a car that stood for 28 years without a valve cover and with old fuel in the tank.
Yeah. Most cars might get away with it.. this car such a rarity...
i totally agree. The K-jet injection really needs to be checked over by a specialist. Turbo needs some care as well. The rest will work provided it gets oil pressure.
Yeah., oor quattro in German, like oor wullie here in Scotland 😂
