One of my all time favorite violinists. Technique is at the service of the music and not the other way around. I admire his impeccable, effortless playing and authentic musicality. Thank you for sharing this with us!
It is always a pleasure for me to hear their music and their interpretation. After watching a few videos of you giving lessons, I also realised that you are an excellent teacher. 🙂
He’s getting old. His technique is not the same. Normal process of the body during age. Nonetheless fascinating to say. He plays still so effortlessly and with the grace of his prime years. I’m amazed he plays this well and as much at his age things so demanding like Paganini. It’s crazy good!!! Nerve conduction velocity and muscle activation are humbling body processes. Reminding us this life is not human’s place of rest!!
Lantern bearer: This was recorded in 1996. Shlomo was 38. Is this not his "prime"?? I'm sure you are younger (born after 1958). But be kind to your elders. And do some research, before picking on the "aged" !! Thanks 😊
@@pamllewellyn8029 if that’s so I got age wrong. But performance level varies. Still I was not trying to be unkind but maybe not one of his best performances then in my estimation - but if you thought it was flawless quintessential perfection you are totally entitled to say so. So am I
great fiddling, but why does he play over the bell when he's supposed to be resting, like at 4:15 - it's supposed to be a little bell solo for three notes.
Yeah that was very annoying. Not a musical choice at all. As my old teacher used to say: "that's the musician giving a kind of 'f*ck you' to the original score"....
If you consider the genre to be “Paganini”, then it is very much in the correct style. Paganini was very well known to improvise constantly in his performances and often times opulent virtuosity was the motive. Needlessly playing during the bell solo with huge jumps in position would have pleased the composer.
Flagolet tones should've never been used in string instrument works because it's next to impossible to keep them in tune. They don't contribute anything of expressive value to the music. They just serve to trip up the violinists unnecessarily and ruin the piece they're used in.
They can and must be in tune. If maestro Mintz can’t play them very clear, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Listen to third movement of Paganini first concerto performed by Hadelich. Very clear double harmonics. And there are other violinist who can play them really well.

I am profretioon musition. L
I've heard this recording on spotify but always wanted to see this :)
Amazing 😍😍😍
One of the best versions of La Campanella if not the best. Played with fluency and easiness and without being forced.
Beautiful ❤️ Shlomo Mintz seems to use the same left hand thumb technique of Ruggiero Ricci!
Thanks for video
0:49 I love the percussion used in this piece to act kind of like a tuning fork to indicate that indeed the notes where all hit correctly
Beautiful Campanella
Υπεροχος
Muito lindo 👏👏👏🇧🇷
Un grande maestro!
Veramente fantastico
minz is one of the best
Very Mozartian approach. Very fine playing.
Mintz play paganini, Horowitz play Rach...
Best ever !
he looks so happy
Esos deditos, como los enanitos de Blanca Nieves...hasta patinan... qué preciosidad
How come the concert hall looks half full?
Paganing put a solar panels ad right in the middle of Campanella.

That depends on the edition..
I can hardly imagine that Paganini would have done better.
