Ho-oh has quite possibly the most unique Legendary battle theme ever composed, nothing even compares to it. The others all have the very energetic, brassy/electronic/techno sound to them that Pokemon is accustomed to...and then you have Ho-oh's which uses the sound of Japanese drums and instruments into it...it is so fitting for Ho-oh.
+BananasAreCool .-. Arceus' is certainly...unique. I actually don't like it much as a song. To be fair, the sound system for the DS really doesn't do that theme very much good, but even then it's mostly just drums beating at a steady marching pace with occasional screeching notes and long pauses...I honestly don't like it lol I prefer Ho-oh's more as a song itself
+mario anguiano I sort of agree. I like Deoxys' theme, and it does start out different, but it then kind of becomes a basic techno "wee woo" sound for the rest of it.
+MrMrMrprofessor I don't know if it's more unique, but I like Lugia's theme more because there's so much stuff going on in the background. Also, while not by any means unique, mew still has the best legendary theme.
Ho-oh is a very unique legendary. It doesn't have that scary or intimidating vibe, but rather a godly creature which is super rare, combine this fact with the unique divine music it gets.... Imagine you are battling with Ho-oh, this is different than anything else. Other legendary battles are intense fights, somewhat very pressure inducing, but this battle is beautiful for the sight, as if it has descended from heaven to test your skills, and realize how worthy of a trainer you are. It is just.. very unique. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
Ho-oh: Welcome young champion. You have much courage to ascend to such heights. If you are prepared, steel yourself for honorable combat. Should you attain victory then I will serve as your vassal when you are in need. Lugia: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I love how well it fits Ho-Oh. It doesn't just feel like a generic "legendary" theme, it fits so well with the Ho-Oh battle in Heartgold with the Kimono Girls and the golden trees surrounding the Bell Tower. Definitely one of the most unique themes to date, up there with Zacian/Zamazenta's and Giratina's themes
I love the contrast between this theme in Lugia's Battle theme This theme has a lot of stuff going on, but feels very controlled. There are even a lit of parts where it calms down for a second to let you really feel the majesty of Ho-Oh. Let you feel that it can do great things like reviving and elavating the legendary dogs. Lugia's has a lot of dissonant and out of place instruments. It's fierce and feels like it bursting out like shaken up soda due to it having to conceal itself for many years. The theme has a "You should probably run" feel because we've only learned about Lugia's power hurting. Causing intense storms that last for months. Even the "calm" part of it's theme still has the dissonant instruments still fucking around.

Fun fact: for those who don't know, back when gen 2 was being developed Ho-oh was originally intended to be the "god" Pokemon, this is why it's told to us it has the power to bring life to any Pokemon, this was because the team thought that the series wouldn't see much success after gen 2 and wanted to go all out. *Boy were they wrong~*
Yeah that makes sense since the lore has Ho Oh as essentially a Shinto God with power over life and death. Not to mention why the fandom theorizes that Ho Oh resurrected Ash and is the reason why he never aged.
Lugia and Ho-oh are simply amazing, the concept, the lore with their towers, the trio that Ho-oh resurrected, everything simply works so well, and they feel like true legends. It was nice to grow up with Crystal, it was and is the single best Pokemon game I ever played. The only games to give us 2 maps, 16 badges, and so many many other great things.
Pokemon seriously needs the return of traditional sounding music like this for legendaries. Imagine how much cooler a Zacian would be in Sword and Shield if it had a theme composed of bagpipes and other traditional instruments of the British isles.
I'm not sure that creative choice would fit so well in their case. IMO, Zacian and Zamazenta's battle music sounds the way it does because they represent the blending of fairy tales and the fantastical way stories of war and conquest are told. their link to the people of Galar's modern culture is actually quite weak. Ho-oh having a more overtly Japanese theme makes sense because it's inherently connected with the still very traditionally Japanese town of Ecruteak which it used to regularly visit and influence the culture of. Ho-oh is still beloved and yearned for by the people of Ecruteak, to Galar's people, Zacian and Zamazenta are just a story everyone tells a bit differently. I hope that makes sense.

It comes off as rarer than Mew which is fabled as one of the rarest pokemon in the world. It is just so mysterious and feels more godly than other super strong Pokemon just because of its rarity and the fact that it has the power to resurrect the dead/create life.....very few Pokemon have such power." but like- I only bought heart gold because fire bird go brrr

Always liked Ho-oh more than Lugia. His design is majestic and awesome looking, focuses more on offensive stats (I prefer hard-hitting 'Mons), and his battle theme is amazing.
+Naetoru I feel as though Lugia's theme does a better job of making one shit their pants spontaneously out of fear. That's a better reaction to encountering a legendary by far.
Alright, so HeartGold was my first ever Pokèmon game. Thus, Ho-Oh and namely the whole Johto region hold a special place in my heart. So, I'm playing Omega Ruby, and doing the whole Sea Mauville mission, unaware I would be meeting an old friend at the end of it. Obtaining the Clear Bell excited me, and I return back to the ship with the portal standing ominously at the stern. I enter the portal, and this beautiful theme starts. I proceed to spend the first 5 minutes of the fight just listening to this beautiful music. I, overall, thank Nintendo for not changing the themes. Nostalgia is a large factor of this game, and they even kept it for the Johto babies, like me.
I was incredibly shocked that doing the Sea Mauville sidequest led to Ho-oh [I dont know if its Lugia in AS or if its Ho-oh in both versions]. In the original game you just were rewarded either a Deepseatooth or scale for Clamperl [there was no nugget farm either at the base of the ship].
JeremySheer There is no 8-bit version of this theme. In GSC Ho-Oh and Lugia used the normal Wild Pokemon Battle thees, which would be terribly anticlimatic. The three beasts use their Crystal battle theme over their HGSS remasters, though.
Not a part of the conversation you're talking about, in all honesty Pokémon HeartGold was my first pokemon game too. I was an idiot back then, though, ane thought it sucked. It wasn't until X and Y I liked Pokémon. Then my brother and I got copies of HG and SS. I've recently started playing my HeartGold again from the Elite Four where I had last stayed before drifting away. Then I beatbKaren and and Lance beat me. Left the League and went to do stuff. Then get back to the League. Yeah. Then beat Blue. Currently trying to catch damn Latias. She sucks. I'd likrmto where to get quick balls in HG (and timer balls ORAS) t8 catch her. So yeah that's it. I'm a young pokemon fan.
Ho-oh's theme makes me imagine fighting an ancient Aztec god that nobody has seen for millennia, meanwhile Lugia's is like your angry dad coming downstairs because you were being too loud
I just realized something. Ho-oh represents the golden sun, an aspect of the Tao sun god Amaterasu. Lugia represents the silver sea and storms, an aspect of the Tao storm god Susanoo. Tsukuyomi is the only one who isn’t represented by a legendary from the same generation... Could it be that there was a third legendary representing the moon that didn’t go through?
could be possible since Crystal was Gen2 Bonus Edition and there was no third major legendary added like in the other gens such as Rayquaza, Giratina etc. but who knows
Ho-Oh was the peak of Legendaries imo, fantastic design and lore that's a bit more tame than the usual "this pokemon Created xyz and is basically a god" Ho-OH feels more like a folktale turned reality, not some godly deity, just a very special pokemone that did some pretty amazing things, and i really wish more legendaries were like that 4x weakness to stealth rocks be dammed, i love using my fire phoenix.
The battle with/to catch Ho-Oh is what I like to call a "timed battle". All of his moves have 5 PP EACH, meaning that unless you use a move that makes it fall asleep or become paralyzed, you only have 20 turns to catch the bugger.
They definitely fixed it. The DS's sound hardware hasn't aged well. Games like Mystery Dungeon and some main series Pokemon really max it out, and even if the samples are good there's so many compression artifacts. This version has higher quality samples and little to no artifacting. That said, the effect is more noticeable on, say, Giratina's theme.
Imagine being Ethan/Kris/Lyra. Finally, your adventure is soon culminating, with your pokemon team at its peak...just one slot in your party left, which you were saving for that special pokemon someday... And that day has come. You've rid your country of the plights of team rocket, the kimono girls have called upon you as the chosen one, the one who will be aloud to to control the legendary pokemon's power... You get to the top of the tower.. the kimono girl's summon the legendary bird of the sky..it swoops down and lands with all its grandeur..iridescent rainbow feathers glinting in the sun/ sparkling in the moonlight.. And then... A portal opens out of nowhere!!! It swallows the pokemon and disappears as quickly as it materialised!!! Ethan/Kris/Lyra: 0_0 .....................WHAT.....JUST HAPPENED.......... Kimono girls: Uh..........okaaaaaaaay......did...did not expect that..... ..................... Ethan/Kris/Lyra:Sooooooo........WHAT HAPPENS NOW?!! Both:........................ Ethan/Kris/Lyra: FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
This is the reason my favorite game is Gold/Silver. Not only because it was my first one, but because it captures oriental music, colors, designs, architecture, perfectly
Ho-Oh is just badass. But... the size of Lugia on screen outright scares me the fuck out. :o So did Primal Kyogre. Huge Pokémon scare me. Especially when they have battle music like... Kyogre/Groudon and Lugia do.
This is AWESOMMMMEEEEEEE LOVE the japenese instruments in this!!!! This theme just make ho oh appear more powerful than others. The theme is special and unique you cant help fell that you are deeling with something different, more ancient almost
Because Ho-oh is quite literally a stylized Fenghuang, It was took away from a manucrip from many milenia ago and Catoonized into the pokemon asthetic, thats why it has that goodly aura to it, because its literally a Real legend on our world
Lyrics I made up: At... the tower... a Legend sleeps, wake it up, fire burns, douse it out... Lightning... struck the tower, and set it all aflame, into a raging inferno, to be doused by the rain... Into the sky, the legend flies to create a rainbow... wave a feather, and it's presence will come nearer...~ Into the sky, the legend flies to create a rainbow... 3 beasts, mentored by the legend itself...~ See it now, hear me now, hear my name, calling you...! Will you please, answer me, anything, just a sign...! At the tower the legends lurks... call it now...~
When i first encountered ho oh during my playthrough of heart gold, and this theme started, i felt accomplished, i felt that i was finally worthy of a confrontation of such a magnificent creature. I miss feeling that way towards legendaries. Now it's just like, "oh another legendary? Thats cool ig"
I LOVE how this has the same motif as the Dance theater. Considering his strong relationship with Ecruteak city and the legendary beasts that's honestly a brilliant idea.
Fun fact: In Heartgold, you can defeat Ho-oh with a Houndour without taking any damage (without letting Ho-oh run out of PP, of course). EDIT: Also works on Brilliant Diamond and Scarlet/Violet
I just caught Ho-Oh today and heard this theme for the first time. This theme makes me nostalgic because it really reminds me of the music in Soul Silver, which was one of my first Pokemon games. Love this theme.
When ur touring around an abandoned ship playing with a bell you got a while back wondering what so important about it and a Freaking Phoenix drops down and challenges you to a battle Player: what a cool bell *rings bell* HO-HO: I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED
A long time ago i had this weird dream about going into the bell tower but it's layout was much different, spiraling into strange helix shapes and even protruding outside the building itself. once the protagonist climbed through the path it led not to the bell itself but into a dead end suspended by little, he proceeded to jump off it but Ho-oh wasn't having any suicides that day clearly and caught him right before he landed into those wonderfully colored golden trees. strange dream to be sure and i've yet to really figure any meaning behind it other than the fact that it's definitely a "Ho-oh" thing to do to save someone who's trying to commit suicide off your tower.
This theme fits Ho-oh so much. Just the very Japanese feel to the theme, not to mention the drums. And that start, very VERY unique! Then this part at 0:18 is so satisfying to me because of the rhythm and the smoothness of the sound. If it were in Johto, then you would've had to do the bell thing with the Kimono Girls which was just majestic in my opinion with the soundtrack of the bell dance. Then Ho-oh was summoned. In my opinion, this is one of the most iconic legendaries in Pokemon.

am I still playing a pokemon game or am I watching a Japanese dance
Agree
Both? In HG/SS, Ho-Oh is summoned with a Japanese dance.
Kimono girls say hi
xD
¿Porque no los dos?
Ho-Oh's theme feels like a beautiful work of art.
Nostalgia within nostalgia. Gamefreak, I love you.
Johtoddler! I started Gen I baby! Of course, when we're on Gen 20 and we're on the pokéHolodeck, the difference between 1 and 4 won't be so big.
Just because someone's younger than you doesn't mean they can't feel nostalgia. Don't dismiss other's emotions and then insult them.
0:39 is just so beautiful, a huge wave of nostalgia hits me every single time.
Lunala represents the moon if you want to count that but she's from Gen 7
could be possible since Crystal was Gen2 Bonus Edition and there was no third major legendary added like in the other gens such as Rayquaza, Giratina etc. but who knows
Could there be a remake sir?
@@high_boy5843
HeartGold and SoulSilver try agaib
Brenton Taylor remake of pearl and diamond
Ho-Oh was the peak of Legendaries imo, fantastic design and lore that's a bit more tame than the usual "this pokemon Created xyz and is basically a god" Ho-OH feels more like a folktale turned reality, not some godly deity, just a very special pokemone that did some pretty amazing things, and i really wish more legendaries were like that
4x weakness to stealth rocks be dammed, i love using my fire phoenix.
That moment when you don't fight for a good 5 minutes because you're just jamming out to the battle theme.
This and Zinnia are the best themes EVER!
Yup, and i love deoxys's too
Skazzy CFC what’s zinia
@@sneddypie Zinnia is a character that was in ORAS
Still vibing to this theme ten years later. One of the best things to come out of HG ever.
The battle with/to catch Ho-Oh is what I like to call a "timed battle".
All of his moves have 5 PP EACH, meaning that unless you use a move that makes it fall asleep or become paralyzed, you only have 20 turns to catch the bugger.
Unless you had a Hypnosis spamming Trace Mega Gardivoir like me. I had 12 turns each time unless that hypnosis hit, which was OBVIOUSLY very rare.
You can always use PP max, but it just maximizes it to 8.
Darkrai = Best pokemon for catching things. Ever. Dark Void + False Swipe spam = 1 hp sleeping Pokeball target.
My Bad, I thought you meant your pokemon.
SnakeEyesRaw Bad Dreams ruins that.
This shits on Lugia's theme.
I'd give Lugia's theme a 4.5/10 and this a 8/10
Lugia's Theme have his style, and i very like this music, very very like but i prefer Ho-Oh Theme

Gamefreak: Can I copy your Homework?
Ancient Japan Melody: Sure but don't make it too obvious
The Homework:
Yeah LOL now I'm gonna do what's called a like
And now it has Electric guitars!
Game freak gets a higher grade
They put so much thought into giving Lugia and ho oh their own distinct themes it was amazing
Well, you can say that this theme is GOLD!
Ok I will shut up now....
King Dedede That hurt my HEART of GOLD.
+Peardude89
"slow claps"
This makes my stone heart become a HEART of GOLD
+Bedside Gaming
"not that slow claps"
"cringes"
This theme is so unique
I guess If it ain't broke don't fix it?
You can improve it ;)
Facts
They definitely fixed it. The DS's sound hardware hasn't aged well. Games like Mystery Dungeon and some main series Pokemon really max it out, and even if the samples are good there's so many compression artifacts. This version has higher quality samples and little to no artifacting. That said, the effect is more noticeable on, say, Giratina's theme.
This theme is legit so nostalgic for me. Heart Gold was my first ever Pokemon game.
Lugia and Ho-oh are cool in their own ways!
Ho-Oh has a very nice theme and design.
Lugia also has a very nice design and the Movie-Bonus!

+Kisa Hime This made my day
+Kisa Hime It hwas hoopa
+Kisa Hime DAAAM YOU HOOOOOPAAAA
And it was transferred to sea mauville in ORAS
This is probably my favorite Pokémon Battle Theme of all time.
This sounds like something you'd hear at a traditional Japanese festival
Don't overlook at how gorgeous this theme is
I'd even say it's better than Lugia's
And I normally prefer Lugia over Ho-Oh
ho-oh is more majestic meanwhile lugia's is more chaotic, i prefer lugias.
Ho-Oh stands to this day as my most favorite Legendary Pokemon. And this theme really fits with him. The song is badass yet divine in a way.
It just goes to show how intense those pokemon are, not one to be taken lightly xD
SceptileTheReptile like Waillord. ;D
well Wailord takes up a good portion of the screen, it startles me sometimes lmao
Kyogre isn't that big now that i just realized it...
kyogre is actually pretty small xD
I love every box legendary theme, but I wish they had their own individual ones like Ho-Oh and Lugia do.
This is AWESOMMMMEEEEEEE LOVE the japenese instruments in this!!!!
This theme just make ho oh appear more powerful than others. The theme is special and unique you cant help fell that you are deeling with something different, more ancient almost
*I like Lugia and Ho-Oh equally, but Ho-Oh has a better theme imo-*
Yea
I love the beginning 😍
+FoxCubGamer
I like it too :)
Okay maybe Pokemon peaked right here with its music, good lord this takes me back
Ho-oh-ho! Merry Christmas (bad pun I know)... =P
get out
Morty called.
He wants his Ho-Oh back. and a Mega Gengar, too.
I hate you so much
AirbagVII its Japanese chrismas
Jk
Oh~ that theme, and Ho-Oh is still my favorite legendary after almost 20 years!
mine too♡
I really like this theme, it hits so different compared to the others!
A Rainbow Bird got shoved down my ears....... And I love it......
I think you were high while doing it
Arceus may be the God Pokémon, but Ho-oh still have a huge godhood aura around him.
Because Ho-oh is quite literally a stylized Fenghuang, It was took away from a manucrip from many milenia ago and Catoonized into the pokemon asthetic, thats why it has that goodly aura to it, because its literally a Real legend on our world
Because the legendary beasts have a paradox form from a different timeline, does that mean a paradox Ho-oh exists somewhere in that timeline?
Soaring Phoenix for Ho-Oh and Iron Storm for Lugia
absolutely awesome they cant remix the GODlike theme :) again the same with high quality !!! im so hypedddddddddddddddddddddddddd
***** It's not laziness, they did it on purpose for the nostalgia factor.
*****
This theme does not need a remix. It is an amazing theme plain and simple.
sonix431 no they didn't its cuz this ho oh is from heart gold and was brought by hoopa
.....OK CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ahahah xD
***** the theme is too good for a remix :)
Ho-Oh Music> Lugia Music
Ho-Oh Design> Lugia Design
Ho-Oh Shiny> Lugia Shiny
lugia only stays "famous" because of that old movie called 2000, other than that he was never better than ho oh

I wish the returning legendary Pokemon in Crown Tundra kept their battle themes.
Can we have more legendary Pokemon that have that traditional feel and vibe to them like Ho-oh?
Lyrics I made up:
At... the tower... a Legend sleeps, wake it up, fire burns, douse it out...
Lightning... struck the tower, and set it all aflame, into a raging inferno, to be doused by the rain...
Into the sky, the legend flies to create a rainbow... wave a feather, and it's presence will come nearer...~
Into the sky, the legend flies to create a rainbow... 3 beasts, mentored by the legend itself...~
See it now, hear me now, hear my name, calling you...!
Will you please, answer me, anything, just a sign...!
At the tower the legends lurks... call it now...~
Nice
I remember this fight in heartgold. I was so pumped. I was ready for it. I lost my first couple of tries but the music kept going.
Ho-ohly mother of birds this is beautiful
Ho-oh needs to be noticed more
Woah the nostalgia of playing OR/AS came flooding back after i got this in my recommended
Indigo Disk comeback, baby!!
I LOVE how this has the same motif as the Dance theater. Considering his strong relationship with Ecruteak city and the legendary beasts that's honestly a brilliant idea.
I freaking love Ho-Oh and his battle theme >w
THIS THEME IS MY DRUG
Fun fact: In Heartgold, you can defeat Ho-oh with a Houndour without taking any damage (without letting Ho-oh run out of PP, of course).
EDIT: Also works on Brilliant Diamond and Scarlet/Violet
Wait how
@@brendanstreecko7847 I think it’s only damaging move was Sacred Fire and flash fire, houndour’s ability, negates any fire type move
also extrasensory which houndour is immune to
I just caught Ho-Oh today and heard this theme for the first time. This theme makes me nostalgic because it really reminds me of the music in Soul Silver, which was one of my first Pokemon games. Love this theme.
oh damn i already commented on this lol, anyways i still love this theme very much
Glad they kept the same theme... But it would have been awesome if they updated the instrumentation.
Favorite legendary battle theme. Very original.
0:00 "jaw drops", 0:19 "no!" where did it go?!" Don't get me wrong, the theme is fantastic, but the beginning is godlike.
Legitimately amazing composition. Remember being quite stunned when I first fought it way back when.
I love this theme as it show off Ho-oh beautiful and mystique then showing it raw power and dominance ❤️
Yo was the ho-oh theme always this? Absolute banging of a start.
When ur touring around an abandoned ship playing with a bell you got a while back wondering what so important about it and a Freaking Phoenix drops down and challenges you to a battle
Player: what a cool bell *rings bell*
HO-HO: I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED
Praise Helix
This theme fits Ho-oh so much. Just the very Japanese feel to the theme, not to mention the drums. And that start, very VERY unique! Then this part at 0:18 is so satisfying to me because of the rhythm and the smoothness of the sound. If it were in Johto, then you would've had to do the bell thing with the Kimono Girls which was just majestic in my opinion with the soundtrack of the bell dance. Then Ho-oh was summoned. In my opinion, this is one of the most iconic legendaries in Pokemon.
Que nostalgia, cuando era pequeña y jugaba confundi a Ho-Oh con Fearow, y pensé que me pase el juego xD
Yo pensaba que lugia era tipo agua
