I think this theme is really underrated. Not all music has to flow smoothly and expectantly throughout the song. This theme really shows the unpredictability and danger, yet underlying stability reminiscent of the deep sea. Also since it's a Johto main game legend pokemon, it has various Johto-standard theme elements mixed in. This is the type of song that a victory road or region champion would get, and that's suprisingly fitting for one of the more mysterious and powerful of the legendary pokemon.

Lugia has a swamp. . . . . .xD The 3 birds he has charge off all get their own islands to chill on meanwhile Lugia just has a swamp and he swims with the magikarps :P
Lugia is my favorite legendary since the moment I saw it on Pokemon 2000. The little teasers they kept showing of it throughout the movie. A shadow moving in the depths of the sea, with glowing blue eyes and a melodious cry. It was mesmerizing. And when they finally revealed it, coming out of that water vortex like a boss.... I was sad when it dived back into the ocean at the end of the movie.
For those who wonder why this track sounds all over the place, Lugia's Pokedex entry tells you it took itself away from Humanity because of how destructive it was, without even being so. Why does this theme sound all over the place? You've just walked into its home, flipped it the bird and said "Come at me you bastard!" You really think he's happy you're there?
Most people (including me) wonder why Lugia wasn't water/flying and is psychic/flying instead. I found that there's an official answer to it: They made Lugia a psychic type because psychic was one of if not the most powerful type at the time, and they wanted Lugia to be powerful. So basically the *guardian of the sea* isn't a water type cause they wanted it to look strong.
Actually, Lugia has clairvoyance and can read minds. I'd say that they should've made Lugia water, flying, AND psychic type because I like how the psychic goes with their wise and strong personality. But maybe the writers were scared to use too many types at once. In any case Lugia is still one of my top favorites when it comes to pokemon
Well, Lugia's origins aren't even from the sea anyways so making it a psychic type would make sense in a way lol. But then again, Lugia wasn't even supposed to be in the video games in the first place heard it was a last second thing which probably explains why the games themselves don't really mention much about Lugia's lore compared to Ho-Oh and the 3 beasts.
Nah, i like my typing. The whole knowing almost everything is a huge plus and besides I'd get destroyed by electric type moves. Then I wouldn't be able to keep those dastardly birds in check
This feels like the JRPG song in Pokemon. While other Legendaries have themes that show that they're majestic creatures, Lugia's very WINGFLAPS cause storms. You aren't just fighting a majestic creature you're fighting something that is a literal force of nature just by existing.

Ho-Oh: I'm a mythical bird that is common in many traditions, I look like many other birds Lugia: EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT ME AND MY HAND WINGS SO I'M GOING TO TEAR ANYONE WHO ENTERS MY CAVE IN HALF
My special team and why they are special. Cyndaquil > Quilava > Typhlosion. Why it's special: He's my first Pokémon. (I take him everywhere I go. He's my best buddy. Been with me since the beginning of my journey in Johto.) Hoothoot > Noctowl. Why it's special: He's the very first Pokémon I caught. Rocky the Onix > Rocky the Steelix. Why it's special: First Pokémon received through trade. Togepi > Togetic > Togekiss. Why it's special: First Pokémon I ever hatched from an egg. Shiny Gyarados. Why it's special: First shiny Pokémon I ever caught. Lugia. Why it's special: First Legendary Pokémon I caught. So... who does your special team consist of? This should include: The starter Pokémon you got from the professor from your very first core series Pokémon game. (Spin off series do not count.) The very first Pokémon you caught. The first Pokémon you got from trade. The first Pokémon you hatched from an egg. The first Shiny Pokémon you ever caught. and finally... the first Legendary Pokémon you caught. I eagerly await the results. I can still hear Lugia's cry. Okay... Time for a little history lesson. Lugia... The Diving Pokémon. You know... I have a lot to thank Lugia for. It's because of him is what made me get my first core series Pokémon games. SoulSilver and HeartGold. I was just a kid when I first watched Pokémon the Movie 2000 and it was really good. So when I first saw SoulSilver and HeartGold on the selves, I was reminded how awesome Lugia was in the movie. So when I was able to, I got SoulSilver and HeartGold. I obviously played SoulSilver first because of Lugia. And I just kept on playing, doing my best to beat each gym leader in Johto. When I got all 8 Johto Gym badges and beat to the Kimono Girls, a Pokémon went over to the Whirl Islands. When I got to where the Kimono Girls were, I saw the events take place. The dance and then... Lugia appears. I was quite shocked. I was like, "I really get to capture him?! Awesome!" I immediately threw the Master Ball when the battle started to capture this Pokémon and add it to my team. I captured Lugia from the movie! Like the one on the box. I immediately had him stick with me to beat the elite four as well as face the Kanto Gym leaders and Red. To this day... Lugia remains my favorite legendary, has a special place in my heart, and my second favorite Pokémon, as Typhlosion, my first Pokémon, is at the top spot.
Piplup, Starly, Chatot, Riolu, a shiny Machop, although I haven't gotten a Legendary yet in Diamond. Hoping to get a 3DS so I can transfer them up to HOME :)
While I may hate using defensive Pokemon, I prefer Lugia over Ho-oh, in design, in theme, in battle music, in name... every way. That being said, I don't hate Ho-oh at all.
rrivera992011 I think lugia's fits him more, but in terms of music and pokemon. I say ho-oh is the best. But then again, you'd think it was peaceful, but its intense as hell. but its good if you ask me
I love the contrast between the themes of Lugia and Ho-Oh. Ho-Oh's theme sounds like a divine creature descended from the heavens to grant the people who summoned it an honorable challenge to see if the summoners are worthy of its companionship. A song befitting a noble guardian of the sky, powerful but pure of heart. Lugia's theme, on the other hand, sounds like the people who summoned it have unleashed a monster; a destructive force of nature that wants revenge on those that disturbed its slumber. A song befitting an awakened beast, pissed off and ready to destroy all before it.
@@Attaxalotl It is only the gaurdian of the ocean, not the oceans sea monster. Just because it swims doesn't mean it should be a water type. That's like saying Snorlax or Ryhdon should be a water type because they can learn surf to swim. It moved to the sea so it didn't threaten people, people it's gust were stronger enough to destroy cities and towns in a single blow.
@@boxiannn Actually Ho-Oh and Lugia can be evenly matched. Ho-Oh is the Powerful Bulky one, and Lugia is the Speedy Bulky one. Ho-Oh exceeds Lugia in all forms of attacking, and they both have the same special defense and max HP. Lugia is only better in Defense and Speed. It's Max Attack and Special Attack is the same at only 306, but Ho-Oh's Max Special Defense is 447. Ho-Oh's Attack is 394 and Special Attack is 350. They have the same Base Total, but Ho-Oh is better. There's not to many strong physical water moves that can beat it, but moves like Aqua Tail.
I enjoyed both remastered Ho-Oh and Lugia pieces in HGSS. It was especially creative to give Lugia more Western influence in his theme whilst giving Ho-Oh more Eastern influence in his theme. I think that's the motif they had with these two since Gold and Silver, but HGSS gave them more of an opportunity to emphasize that.
It really sucks that the only reason this dude isn't a Water/Dragon was because Gamefreak were being a bunch of weirdos and going against the designer's intentions. Like Lugia is literally a dragon, that guards the ocean, living underwater. But nah, it has wings so flying, and psychic bc "the type denotes strength".
+TheAstoundingGamer there is 8.9 ithing gigabyte of data on a 3ds cart, pokemon omega ruby took up 6.3 gigs there was space. the songs of the game only take up 1.8 gigs
that trye, maybe it's becuase they didnt think they need new themes, and that people would be upset oif they changed it, without explainetion, like the change of the groudon kyogretheme when you fight themm in the story
I tend to think the theme's were meant to go along with the unveiling of the Pokemon Multiverse, to show that Hoopa's rings were pulling them directly from the universe that was the original games took place in.
Ho-oh's theme: Hey buddy, catch. It's called friendship cuz you're a pretty worthy kid Lugia's theme: Thank you for coming, *because you about to catch these hands. Put your paws up homie, run em up*
Ho-oh theme: A majestic ritual battle of elegance and grace. Only the most devoted and skilled will emerge victorious. Lugia theme: *Y O U W I L L D R O W N*
In Pokemon lore, I wonder how many people/Pokemon died fighting legendaries. Lugia's theme does a really good job reminding you just how much danger you're in. There's no quick way out unless you have a Psychic-type with Teleport, so if you're team is getting thrashed by Lugia...
A well written piece. Kinda brings out the fight in lugia. It shows it's fear in it's power. It tries to defeat you in hopes of not being used for the wrong reasons. At least that's how I see it.
It's funny cause Masuda played a few notes for Ichinose to help give him ideas for Lugia's theme and what he got out of that was "slam piano keys very hard"
Ho-Oh: 'Hello there, Neighbour! I made some cookies and tea, would you like some? If you don't want to come in but want some, I can deliver them to your house.' Lugia: AAAARRRROAOAOAKAKAOAOAOOAOSOSNNDJXJS. BARK BARK BARK ASROROOO AROOOOO BARK BARK AROOOOOO BARK SNARL GRRR GGHDJSJJSJFJ
Lugia: "...why did you awaken me? No, seriously, do you not realize what you've done? My very wing beats cause devastating major hurricanes. My cry shakes the very earth and causes massive tsunamis. My very existence upon this earth is apocalyptic in nature. I hid myself beneath the waves to protect the world from such devastation on a grand scale. And you have now unleashed those horrors upon this world, you have no one to blame but yourself. Now show me... can you control that kind of power? Do you have what it takes to tame the beast of the sea?" (Just a reminder, Lugia's connection with the Kanto birds is only slightly hinted at in the games, as opposed to being well developed in the anime. Also, Game Lugia is implied by its Pokedex entries to be a shy but monstrously powerful creature in fear of its own power and the destruction it could cause simply by existing, not the benevolent guardian we see in the anime)
Ho Oh’s theme: Hello young trainer. It is incredible that you have made it this far. I will give you the chance to capture me so that I may assist you on your journey. Lucia’s theme: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Ho-oh: And so begins the ultimate test... The test to see if you're worthy of my companionship. Lugia: I've got giant hands and I will slap you with them!
Imagine Lugia and Ho-oh getting a mega evolution alongside the Johto starters and many other Johto Pokemon in Sun and Moon, I mean it does seem like Sun and Moon is the Gold and Silver to X and Y's Red and Blue. I mean for christ sakes Sun's color is almost the same as Gold and Moon's color fits Silver pretty well, and X and Y's colors were freaking Red and Blue's.
+TheOfficialKnux1 that probably wont happen since lugia isnt incredibly ancient, and primal reversion is when a pokemon reverts back to its younger, stronger self
I've had the tune from 0:50 to 1:00 stuck in my head for a year, not knowing where it's from, but then today I stumbled upon this song and realized how cool it was all over again.
Ho-Oh: trainer! I must see if you are worthy of my friendship!
Lugia: WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP.
^This can never be unheard
That's hilarious
It's more like "Those who tread upon my domain shall await judgement."

For the longest, I slept on this theme but the more I listen to it, the more I realized how good it is. Still like ho-oh’s theme tho
Finally someone who likes lugia's theme more than ho-oh's theme just like me
I feel Lugia outclasses Ho-oh in almost everything
Here from Pokemon Evolutions Episode 7. The rendition of Lugia's theme was great.
Epic foreshadowing too.
A joke
Lugias typing.
I laughed xD
Ha
I would had been such an amazing Bulky Water if it were Water Flying.
@@1AMdoesSomething It is an amazing bulky psychic flying type
Lugia shouldn't be a water type just because it swims.
Lugia is basically just

Ho-Oh: I'm a mythical bird that is common in many traditions, I look like many other birds
Lugia: EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT ME AND MY HAND WINGS SO I'M GOING TO TEAR ANYONE WHO ENTERS MY CAVE IN HALF
My special team and why they are special.
Cyndaquil > Quilava > Typhlosion. Why it's special: He's my first Pokémon. (I take him everywhere I go. He's my best buddy. Been with me since the beginning of my journey in Johto.)
Hoothoot > Noctowl.
This should include:
The starter Pokémon you got from the professor from your very first core series Pokémon game. (Spin off series do not count.)
The very first Pokémon you caught.

I love how the beginning makes these little water/bubbles sounds like Lugia is diving down first, concentrating his power or smth
Lugia wants a hug...
Yveltal: HUG ME BROTHA
... 😂😂
While I may hate using defensive Pokemon, I prefer Lugia over Ho-oh, in design, in theme, in battle music, in name... every way.
That being said, I don't hate Ho-oh at all.
Goddamn, is it that hard to spam Iron items on Ho-Oh?
@@Convoy143 ho oh sucks in everyway

Ho-oh: let us do battle trainer, as a test of your will.
Lugia: WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT
Ho-oh: ahhh such a sacred timing you have trainer
Lugia: so.....you have chosen death
Ho-Oh: It's time to prove is your truly worthy of my trust!
Lugia: *GET OUT OF MY ROOM IM PLAYING POKEMON ETA DIAMOND!*
Ho-OH: I will test your skills in a battle, to see if you are worthy of my friendship.
Lugia: It's always gotta be these scrawny trainers.
Ho-oh: I must see if you are worthy of having my friendship
Lugia: YOU'RE SCREWED, BRAT, GET OUTTA MY FACE
Lugia looks like:
"PROBLEM ??!"
Is it me or am I the only one who Likes lugia over Ho-oh and his theme
i like lugia more aswell
same
rrivera992011 I think lugia's fits him more, but in terms of music and pokemon. I say ho-oh is the best. But then again, you'd think it was peaceful, but its intense as hell. but its good if you ask me
pretty sure most people like Lugia more, yet Ho-oh's theme more. Personally, I prefer Ho-oh in both categories
Lugia is better in both yet everybody says ho-oh is better in both
Lugia is my favourite water type!

:'D
Why in the hell was I humming this tune? And it took me so long to figure out where I remember it from 🤣
I love the contrast between the themes of Lugia and Ho-Oh.
Lugia’s design > Ho-Oh’s design
Lugia’s theme < Ho-oh’s theme
Glad that’s sorted
Sammy for me it's the opposite but I respect your opinion
Ho-oh's typing sense > Lugia's typing sense
@@Attaxalotl It is only the gaurdian of the ocean, not the oceans sea monster. Just because it swims doesn't mean it should be a water type. That's like saying Snorlax or Ryhdon should be a water type because they can learn surf to swim. It moved to the sea so it didn't threaten people, people it's gust were stronger enough to destroy cities and towns in a single blow.
Sammy Sorry but Lugia > Ho-Oh in both. Ho-Oh is amazing but Lugia is in a different league compared to Ho-Oh.
A very aggressive theme for arguably the most heroic Pokémon ever.
Helped Ash save the entire damn world
Zygarde too.
The Pokemon evolution episode was so great it just make me love more lugia
This is just ;-; nostalgia ;-; ty Game Freak and Pokeli.
Nostalgia? Heart gold and soul silver are only a couple years old..
You know.... Cuz they're remade songs of gen 2?
Like the ones that came out in '99
Ho-oh : I am not as rude as my brother from the sea
Lugia: *angry ape noises*
It really sucks that the only reason this dude isn't a Water/Dragon was because Gamefreak were being a bunch of weirdos and going against the designer's intentions.
Like Lugia is literally a dragon, that guards the ocean, living underwater. But nah, it has wings so flying, and psychic bc "the type denotes strength".
I think it's a shame they didn't make new versions of these themes, because the older ones have the limitations of the DS's sound
I tend to think the theme's were meant to go along with the unveiling of the Pokemon Multiverse, to show that Hoopa's rings were pulling them directly from the universe that was the original games took place in.
they obviously gonna do remix for the 4 gen remake, they just won't do remix of a 2 or 4 gen in a 3 gen, they don't gonna spoil everything.
+RikithelegendaryHeropon was that even English?
This theme is criminally underrated
The kind of themes i love and no one does 😭
Ho oh it's just more attractive as a battle theme
@@luisfillipebeserra2108 ho-ohs being better doesn't mean lugias theme is bad?? They didn't mention ho-oh anywhere in this post
Ho-oh's theme: Hey buddy, catch. It's called friendship cuz you're a pretty worthy kid
Lugia's theme: Thank you for coming, *because you about to catch these hands.
Majestic.
The pokemon Evolutions episode was so good it brought me back here
The pokemon of harmony and peace has one of the most dissonant and chaotic themes
When you forget to save your game
Ho Oh: welcome… trainer, May we start our battle?
Lugia: WHAT U DOIN IN MY CAVE
Ho-Oh: 'Hello there, Neighbour! I made some cookies and tea, would you like some? If you don't want to come in but want some, I can deliver them to your house.'
Lugia: AAAARRRROAOAOAKAKAOAOAOOAOSOSNNDJXJS. BARK BARK BARK ASROROOO AROOOOO BARK BARK AROOOOOO BARK SNARL GRRR GGHDJSJJSJFJ
Who remembers Shadow Lugia??

ThatGuyTy yep this theme is actually a remix of his
Me
Lugia: "...why did you awaken me? No, seriously, do you not realize what you've done? My very wing beats cause devastating major hurricanes. My cry shakes the very earth and causes massive tsunamis. My very existence upon this earth is apocalyptic in nature. I hid myself beneath the waves to protect the world from such devastation on a grand scale. And you have now unleashed those horrors upon this world, you have no one to blame but yourself. Now show me... can you control that kind of power? Do you have what it takes to tame the beast of the sea?"
(Just a reminder, Lugia's connection with the Kanto birds is only slightly hinted at in the games, as opposed to being well developed in the anime. Also, Game Lugia is implied by its Pokedex entries to be a shy but monstrously powerful creature in fear of its own power and the destruction it could cause simply by existing, not the benevolent guardian we see in the anime)
"Its time to finish the ri-"
Lugia: " *_WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN MY CAVE-_*
Ho-oh's theme: Welcome trainer, good job making it here, now let us battle!
Lugia: YOU FUCKED U0 NOW, BIG BOY!
Ho Oh’s theme: Hello young trainer. It is incredible that you have made it this far. I will give you the chance to capture me so that I may assist you on your journey.
Lucia’s theme:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Lugia: WTF IS THIS KID DOING IN MY FREAKING HOUSE
I don't know why they said this is bad, i feel it extremely epic when i fight against Lugia, and very fitting.
who said this was bad?
Do you know why this theme song is chaotic? Because Lugia is upset that he is not water typing
Ho-oh: And so begins the ultimate test... The test to see if you're worthy of my companionship.
Lugia: I've got giant hands and I will slap you with them!
I love that this is in or/as because hg/ss are my favorite pokemon games!
The Only Legendary Duo alongside Zacian Zamazenta
1:31 yall are sleeping on the best part
Imagine Lugia and Ho-oh getting a mega evolution alongside the Johto starters and many other Johto Pokemon in Sun and Moon, I mean it does seem like Sun and Moon is the Gold and Silver to X and Y's Red and Blue. I mean for christ sakes Sun's color is almost the same as Gold and Moon's color fits Silver pretty well, and X and Y's colors were freaking Red and Blue's.
Primal Lugia, yo :0
+TheOfficialKnux1 that probably wont happen since lugia isnt incredibly ancient, and primal reversion is when a pokemon reverts back to its younger, stronger self
Also sun and moon are heavily related to alchemy. Gold and Silver just happen to be the alchemical symbols for the sun and moon.
*MIND BLOWN*
damn nigga. seeing my typhlosion as a mega evolution. that'd be great.
+Ryadh SAME!!
I've had the tune from 0:50 to 1:00 stuck in my head for a year, not knowing where it's from, but then today I stumbled upon this song and realized how cool it was all over again.
Lugia:
YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE, FOOL!
Ho-Oh: Nice music that makes feel like your in a Japanese...uh...garden?
Lugia: *GET OUT OF MY CAVE* type of music
