thats fine isnt it? The only reason Xerneas is a threat is because of geomancy. The idea is you whirlwind out Xerneas, wasting her white herb and essentially removing her as a threat. Even if it is 1 for 1. Also, didn't he say in the vid that Mega-Gengar couldn't 1 hit Lugia? Lugia might still die but Gengar isnt exactly tanky, would still be an iffy matchup
@@jordanious7711 Not exactly. Of course we don't get to see the situation of the match but in ORAS ubers teams usually have more than one win-conditions. Xerneas without Geomancy is still not a deadweight and could even setup again if the opposing team lacks good answers to it. And dragging out Mega Gengar more or less guaranteed Lugia's demise since a weakened Lugia will be ohko'd by Shadow Ball. And in other situations Gengar can taunt Lugia and prevent it from doing anything it wants. And once rid of Lugia other mons like Arceus-Normal and Primal Groudon can go to town.
The reason for Lugia’s psychic typing comes in an interview where they stated: To start, the first type was decided to be Flying-type since Lugia have wings. At the time Psychic-type was the symbol of powerful Pokemon. As we wanted Lugia to give the impression of being a powerful Pokemon, we settled on Psychic-type for the second type, instead of Water-type. In short, the reason why Lugia is not a Water-type despite being underwater, is due to its Flying-type-like appearance, and Psychic-type being the symbol of a powerful Pokemon. Legendary duos represent opposite concepts, for example Groudon and Kyogre represent land and water, while Dialga and Palkia represent time and space. In the case of Ho-oh and Lugia, although they do not have a direct connection in the story, we imagine that they represent the sun and the moon, day and night, yin and yang (positive and negative), bottom of the sea and the sky, above and below. Ho-oh and Lugia were born in the world of Pokemon Gold and Silver, for the new feature, time system, gave us day and night cycle. Thus, they represent the sun and the moon, day and night.
i think ho-oh and lugia represent something similar to groudon and kyogre, but instead of being sea and ground it's sea and sky. silver and gold if you will
@@jonathano503 Zekrom and Reshiram represent the concepts of black and white; opposite ends of a spectrum. This explains why Kyerum, the third legendary of Black and White, is colored gray, representing a midpoint or a neutral ground. This is also why it can fuse with Zekrom and Reshiram, since it symbolizes leaning towards a single ideal or standard, or possibly symbolizing taking aspects of another idea to strengthen one's own position or beliefs, which also fits in with the idea of there being more than just opposite ends of a spectrum, as arbitrarily adding in a central point is no different than simply having two opposite ends. In a way, Zekrom and Reshiram represent the idea of there even *being* a kind of Yin and Yang in the first place, with Kyreum representing the fact that there is a mid-ground, and Fused Kyreum representing the idea of influencing neutrality towards one side, and mixing the ideals of pure neutral position and an absolute position, as well as how there is not merely a gray-area, but an array of possible positions. It's actually pretty meta in a way.
When he said, “business as usual” about Luigia’s control over new monsters it was so genuine idk. Like this old, should be retired Pokémon is still handling all these fancy new threats, never fading out like others have. Like each generation Luigia watches a new Pokémon knock a good chunk off it’s health and it’s just like watching the world grow it’s no longer like a handful of Pokémon he takes on and even tho it gets harder and harder he isn’t ready to not be viable yet.
I'm more surprised how tanky it was even before multiscale. Psychic/Flying isn't the best defensive typing out there(it's okay of course) and yet Lugia lol'd at the big threats and lol'd even harder when it got multiscale. There's plenty of pokemon with great defensive stats that can't do their job simply because their typing sucks lol.
It's no longer really viable in Uber, but not because it's bad per se (with Boots it's actually better than ever) but because it gives free entry to the biggest offensive threat in the Metagame (Shadow Rider) and is both weak and outclassed by the number one pokemon in the tier : Yveltal. Lugia is weak to Astral Barrage wheread Yveltal is one of the few resists to it, and Yveltal is offensively potent as well whereas Lugia is more passive. Lugia would be definitely excellent if the metagame were different as it has a lot of amazing traits, but it simply matches up poorly against the top dogs of the metagame (similar to Zekrom in gen 6 and 7 in a sense)

Been years but lugias apperance in sword and shield with crown tundra has been its most horrifying apperance yet, the giant hp boost with multiscale, weakness policy, and aeroblast for max airstream is just insane
Its so sad that after so many years of being a consistantly excellent defensive cornerstone of the metagame its no longer good in gen 8 metagame as the the top pokemon of the metagame all hit lugia supereffective and being outclassed by lunala as a defensive pokemon as it can do everything that lugia does and also has some offensive presence. HOPE IT GETS BETTER
Awesome, Jirachi and FSG have finally granted my wish, and now there's finally a video on how good Lugia was in competitive play! Lugia is my favorite Pokémon, and upon seeing how good it has really been, I now love it even more! My life is now complete, Lugia forever! :)
Lugia has everything going for it as a Pokemon honestly. Cool design, good typing, iconic scenes in the anime and AMAZING IN COMPETITIVE. Love this guy. Looking forward to more things from you guys at FSG
I love Pkm that are defensive and fast. its just a very good niche cauz you dont have to be afraid to use moves like recover to late. You can just use the Status moves you want to and dont have to risk that your Pkm gets killed before you do. I wish there were more fast and defensive Pkm.
Latias also has stats like that, too. And when Deoxys Defense Forme dropped to OU last generation, it was also considered to be fast for a wall. But yeah, for the most part, Pokemon with that kind of stat spread are pretty rare, to put it mildly.
Depends on how you *can* dispose of that speed. Lugia is too slow to do something against Yveltal, or Necrozma, or Toxic-possessing Arceus formes. Lugia's strength lies into having Multiscale *and* refreshing it with Roost. Along with Whirlwind and Psychic or Aeroblast, Lugia can potentially cripple powerhouses forever. Aside from that, anything in Uber under 120 Speed is slow by default: not because they are really slow, but relatively. *That and honestly you can't realistically make a Pokemon statistically good by not investing in that stat unless we are talking about astronomical values like KyogreP's SpA.*
@@matthewkuscienko4616 And hopefully not having awful typing like his. Cause, trust me, when Necrozma evolves, it's gonna regret it having dropped the previous typing and ability.
Lugia's ability to learn a wide variety of moves made it deadly too. Outside of Fire type like Flamethrower, it can learn just about anything. I usually went full offensive and had Aeroblast, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Psychic, sometimes dealing with Earthquake instead of Psychic.
smh forgot to mention about a gimmick of lugia in VGC along with fast mons like whimsicott, you fling a lansat berry on lugia to boost it's critical hit ratio and activate it's weakness policy so it could land +2 always critical aeroblast, possible since generation 6.
For me, Lugia does extremely well in the Gen 8 metagame. Run a Calm nature, max out Speed and Special Attack EVS, Dynamax Lugia, get a couple of Max Airstreams up so it outspeeds everything, and sweep. With Multiscale and Recover, and it's really good defensive stats, it can take hits just as well as I can dish them out. Lugia is an absolute tank! I've taken out entire teams with just Lugia alone!
I'm so happy that Lugia is actually great! Lugia is my second favorite legendary, and it has been for a loooong time. Glad to see that it isn't one of those awesome Pokémon that is unviable in the meta.
@@40mihirkulkarni44 it's not really reliable because very few pokémon (even in ubers) try to brute force their way into Lugia rather than toxic it, but it's not a bad set. You can catch people off guard if you predict well
40 Mihir Kulkarni Even at +2 it has pretty meh power by Ubers standards so there’s just better options. Also its STAB combo leaves it hard countered by defensive steel types. Not to mention every Marshadow in Ubers would be licking their lips at the sight of it
After seeing this video and compare it to the previous mighty aggron video, now i know the importance of HP stats, and recovery moves Great video as always Anyway, can someone give me opinion/calcs/example which is better, to have high HP with mediocre defence stats or the opposite stats for walling?

Nice to hear that one of my childhood Pokémon managed to stay consistently useful even as new gimmicks and new Pokémon like Yveltal, DM Necrozma, and Shadow Calyrex rear their ugly heads in. It sort of reminds me of how its disciple Zapdos managed to stay in OU every gen, with the only time it ended up lower being because Thundurus became a thing.

I’m glad there are at least a couple of pokemon who can hard counter it now, but Lugia will always be the omnipresent ruler of Ubers in my eyes.
How GOOD was Psychic/Grass Lugia ACTUALLY?
Something tells me he was looking at Celebi when he was making that video...
lugia is just an amazing Pokémon and my most memorable Pokémon in the uber tier
Im currently building my first competitive team around my Shiny Lugia i got on home, a rain team ^^ im honestly having fun building it
Been years but lugias apperance in sword and shield with crown tundra has been its most horrifying apperance yet, the giant hp boost with multiscale, weakness policy, and aeroblast for max airstream is just insane
Lugia is way too reliant on Multiscale right now too, at least he’s been good for about 20 years before this
It won't
Tbf it was already suffering in gen 7 due to Necrozma-DM and Ho-oH outclassing it outside stall.
@@N12015and lunala existing aswell.
I thought Lugia was Psychic and Grass in Gen 5?
TheBhoy No. Psychic Flying always
Tommy Marino He was joking pleb.
Oh. It’s hard to detect jokes and sarcasm on the internet
I found a mobile reddit user
@@tmarino721 The original upload had a mistake that said Lugia was Grass/ Psychic in Gen 5, as well as having Natural Cure in Gen 4.
I love false swipe gaming
Awesome, Jirachi and FSG have finally granted my wish, and now there's finally a video on how good Lugia was in competitive play! Lugia is my favorite Pokémon, and upon seeing how good it has really been, I now love it even more! My life is now complete, Lugia forever! :)
Lugia has everything going for it as a Pokemon honestly. Cool design, good typing, iconic scenes in the anime and AMAZING IN COMPETITIVE. Love this guy. Looking forward to more things from you guys at FSG
I'm just wondering if Psycho Boost Lugia was ever used?
The Lugia that can be caught in Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness.
Probably not...
I use mine in sumo with z psycho boost and calm mind. Not terrible.
Someone actually used one in a Double Battle video of Gen 7 and won.

What moveset did it use?
I can't exactly remember it because I haven't see the video since forever but I can show you a link.
Serperior is meant to fit the fast and bulky role

Now you mention him at 3:33, I wonder... How good was Shedinja actually?
Being a competitive Luigi main (but just a casual Pokémon player), I want Lugia’s spelling tone spelled as Luigia
A luigi main, in smash?
Dusk mane is so good. I mostly use it as a xerneas/kyogre counter.

Yay! Birthday present!!!! Keep up the awesome work FSG!!!!
I hope Lugia stays relevant forever
Muh boi Lugia

To this day, I can still distinctly hear that Gen 2 “ woo woo woo woooshhhh” Aero Blast sound effect in my mind.
Lugia has always been _so cool_ to me man. I wanna make him work.
Hey there's a mistake in the Gen 5 section it says that Lugia is Flying Psychic but it's actually Psychic Grass

smh forgot to mention about a gimmick of lugia in VGC along with fast mons like whimsicott, you fling a lansat berry on lugia to boost it's critical hit ratio and activate it's weakness policy so it could land +2 always critical aeroblast, possible since generation 6.
The most powerful Pokémon in the game: exists
Lugia: consider yourself walled
For me, Lugia does extremely well in the Gen 8 metagame. Run a Calm nature, max out Speed and Special Attack EVS, Dynamax Lugia, get a couple of Max Airstreams up so it outspeeds everything, and sweep.
With Multiscale and Recover, and it's really good defensive stats, it can take hits just as well as I can dish them out. Lugia is an absolute tank!
I've taken out entire teams with just Lugia alone!
Lugia will always be my favorite legendary, then again i only know up to gen 2.
haha same
I've been binge watching these for the last two weeks and all I really have to say is: How GOOD was Farfetch'd actually?
I'm so happy that Lugia is actually great! Lugia is my second favorite legendary, and it has been for a loooong time. Glad to see that it isn't one of those awesome Pokémon that is unviable in the meta.
Is unviable in gen8
As lugia being my third favorite pokemon, this makes me sooooo happy
Huzzah! My favourite legendary gets its vid! Great rundown as usual.

lugia and aggron are my 2 favorite pokemon, i love to hear that lugia is good in competitive
Basically, a great wall with amazing stats/moves
Seeing Lugia: "I'm gonna destroy everything with aeroblast"
Reality: stall
Still OP, tho
Multiscale with weakness policy can turn it into an offensive sweeper, I'm actually surprised nobody's used this set before
@@40mihirkulkarni44 it's not really reliable because very few pokémon (even in ubers) try to brute force their way into Lugia rather than toxic it, but it's not a bad set. You can catch people off guard if you predict well
40 Mihir Kulkarni Even at +2 it has pretty meh power by Ubers standards so there’s just better options. Also its STAB combo leaves it hard countered by defensive steel types. Not to mention every Marshadow in Ubers would be licking their lips at the sight of it
After seeing this video and compare it to the previous mighty aggron video, now i know the importance of HP stats, and recovery moves
Great video as always
Anyway, can someone give me opinion/calcs/example which is better, to have high HP with mediocre defence stats or the opposite stats for walling?

Nice to hear that one of my childhood Pokémon managed to stay consistently useful even as new gimmicks and new Pokémon like Yveltal, DM Necrozma, and Shadow Calyrex rear their ugly heads in. It sort of reminds me of how its disciple Zapdos managed to stay in OU every gen, with the only time it ended up lower being because Thundurus became a thing.
Lugia is so bad its now being considered for OU lol.... Its terrible since gen 8... since gen 7 it was mediocre but it hit D Rank only in Gen 8
That ghost arceus calc at 7:40 was hilarious
