People need to park any negative perceptions of Wilson at the door, because they make some of THE best irons under their Staff brand. The blades and the CB are absolutely gorgeous (shame I’m not good enough to play them). These D9 Forged are a natural evolution of the C300 Forged (which I play), and then the D7 Forged. My concern would be the strong lofts with these - my C300 7 iron has 33 deg of loft, and it feels like there is a bit of a “hole” now between the D9 Forged (30.5 deg) and the CB (34 deg). I’d probably weaken the lofts by a degree which might make them fly higher but then drop that height by using a stiffer/heavier shaft for more control. Even with my C300 Forged at 33 degrees my 7 iron carries 175-180 yards. So glad you guys have given this club the attention it deserves. Looks, feel, height and distance. And probably the best value on the market. Wilson Staff are on a huge winner here!
Thanks guys , I always liked Wilson Staff, I think there way underrated, I use there wedges and love them!! I really like these irons because of feel and sound, I'm not a distance chaser!! Awesome good for this Company!!
Got my set of D7s 2.5 years ago and they are phenomenal clubs, especially easy to control its flight pattern versus my Mizunos No matter what shot pattern I need, power fade, low punch, soft or heavy draw or high flops I just adjust my grip and stance and “bingo” I accomplished what I wanted …… very manageable clubs, pin seekers!!!!
After gaming these now through the fall and into winter SIM stuff, I can say the D9F irons are the real deal. I play off a 6 and the feel, yardage and dispersion are sooo bang on for me. These are keeps. All for $800 Canadian brand new. I fit mine 1 flat with the DG105S. Wonderful irons.
Back in my prime (a long time ago), I was always a Wilson Staff player and my eldest son still plays Wilson Staff Irons, so I have always had a soft spot for them👍👍
When I started playing golf in the early '70s (a good era for music too 😃) I played Wilson blades. We all played blades back then - the Ping K 1 aside, CBs hadn't reached mainstream. I would love to play Wilson irons, if only I could find a fitter Down Under that stocked their range 😐.
Great review on these irons..Now how would you compare these D9 iron up against the Mizuno 225 irons??? Both forged and both players distance irons....What is your views and is there a comparison video coming????...Thanks....
i currently have the Stealth irons..like them alot but you really have me wondering about these irons now...thx alot...lol.... your thoughts on the 2 types of irons and comparison ...great review by the way....cheers from Canada
I hit the C300 forged when I was last shopping for new irons. Really liked them but couldn't get over the power holes. Wish they would move on from those because these irons look great other than the holes.
Hi guys! Do you think the leading edge of the Ping Glide 4.0 S and T grinds hug the ground as much as the Titleist SM 9 F and M grinds? Think the Vokey’s feel softer? Thanks, Joe
I doubt a new CB. Those were just released last year and Wilson is usually on a 3 year+ product cycle. They've been having supply issues (like everyone else).
I'm looking for something as a high handicapper but a club that will progress with me that could be used by better players. The D9 forged seems to tick that box
I’ve had mine since the middle of last season. I’m 10 handicap and love them. Forgiving when I need it but when I’m on, they feel great and controllably long! Great irons for high handicap if you are a decent ball striker and will definitely give you the feedback you need to have when you need to know where you are on the face and will grow with your game to the single digits for sure. Try them out. Love mine and can’t beat the price!!
All teh videos you do are great but it would help if you started using a mid to high handicap golfer to hit some of these clubs as well. Having a guy that is a scratch golfer does not help the average guy
@@ryanwalters694 not saying it can’t be. The average golfer isn’t doing that. At least not consistently. Even tho a 7 distance iron loft is like a 5 iron.
@@jaautre7482 I guess it depends on the age and natural ability of the average golfer. I’m 41 but swing my iron about 89 mph. If you can’t swing that fast, you won’t see that distance even with a strong lofted club
Can we change the name of these low loft iron’s that you call “players distance”? The irons that have a 7 stamped on a 5 iron loft. lol. Maybe change the category to “ego stroking” iron’s?
With gold being a lifelong sport, there comes a time when ball speed and club head speed starts to fade. This category uses technology to help that demographic that may be good ball strikers that need some more pop. Using tech to get lower loft distance with the control of the shorter shaft. Not just a feel good about themselves category in my opinion. You do you though.
I had the p770 which are 3 deg weaker than my d9 forged. I hit my 8 iron as far as the p770 7 iron with more height, steeper landing angle and more forgiving! With no problems holding greens even with the longer irons. Stroking my ego all day long and loving it!
@@2ndswing I had a serious look at these and was very tempted but the spin numbers caused concern. The greens where I play are often firm and you need spin to hold them.
@Jim Wocha - no different to any other iron in this category though. The faster you hit it, the higher they go and more they spin. So the slow swing speed players will struggle to hold greens with all players distance irons
@@cameronloveless1751 good point although distance irons are often targeted at beginners or less experienced golfers who may not have the necessary swing speed to get them airborne enough. I have a set with lower lofts (30 degree 7 iron) and still seem to stop it fine on greens. Have always hit a higher ball though.
@@jimwocha4949 players distance irons can be a good option for those slower swing players who hit a high spinny ball. I guess the other good thing about the Wilsons - unlike others in the category - is they are forged. So you could bend them to increase loft by a degree or 2 very easily.
I have the d9 forged and can back up the 7 iron 5-6 inches from 160 yards. No problem sticking greens even with my 5 iron and I’m not a really fast iron swinger.

What shaft do you have in them? I have the stiff kbs tour 105 in a c300F demo iron. It's nice. High for my shots.

These have to be winners. Very consistent numbers
Well done, very insightful review on an underrated brand.
Been waiting to buy these since the original D9 dropped. Cmon Wilson, just release them already!!!

For a fifteen handicap d9 or Dynapower???
Dynapower Forged irons will be released in early 2024..
