For the love of God Ableton, please just expand the available collections list/colors to AT LEAST TWICE of what it is right now. So its 7 or 8 right now? Make it 16 or 20. This is a HUGE organization thing. It would make such a difference. I cant seem to make the new navigator menu work they way a VERY SIMPLE list with color coding woukd work. Man, its so obvious and so easy. JUST DO IT!!!!
Hi great video thank you. Have an additional question. At 4:58 you drawing in a Midi cllp in the Timeline and create it as drawed in. Is there a faster way to create after highlighting without using keyboard shortcut ctrl+shift+m? It looks like you habe an faster way?
Hey, thanks for watching! 😁 Unfortunately the fastest way is just that keyboard command you mentioned, and that's what I used at the timestamp you mentioned, I guess I was just quick about it! 😅
That folder thing hurt my brain, for about 5 minutes, and I then finally unchecked group by creators and all was well again. I like Plugins arranged by name, alphabetically, as I install a new one, I can easily find it, if I haven't added it under my collection yet. There are some weird Plugin Company names and sometimes, I haven't a clue. Thanks for the details on other changes!
Totally agree! I actually like having the folders not grouped by creator but I know some people didn't, so it's good to have the option. Now they just need to bring back the option for audio effects as well...
@@matttinklermusic Wrestling for years with this issue, watching this video made me think there ought to be a choice to show a plugin by plugin name or grouped by manufacturer. For small companies, weird or unknown company names or companies you only have one piugin of I prefer the plugin name, because that's what I bought or downloaded. For well knownn brands like Arturia, NI, izotope, Korg, Acustica, IK Multimedia etc the company name folder is fine to me. When you buy a plugin you see the company name extensively, but for free plugins (partly from developers trying to find a place in the market) having the learn both the name as the manufacturer it is a handicap, these plugins easily get lost in obscurity. This method of presenting however might be prescribed in the VST3 standard, developed by (folder type brand) Steinberg.
Also, if you use different time signatures from scene to scene in session view and you build up a song that gets very involved, Ableton CANT SYNC and will crash over and over. Why can't I have the stability and availability to create what ever format of time signatures I want in seasion view? (Which i use more as an arrangement view) In fact I think they have the naming of the two views backwards. I do all of my arranging in session view and make final global tweaks to my session in arrangement view. But do ZERO arranging in arrangement view. Ughhhhh Either way, just make switching scene to scene with different time signatures more stable in 'seasion' view.
I didn't know that there were crashing issues with this! I'd reach out to Ableton support and see if they can advise anything. Hopefully it can get fixed for you!
I agree, this would be a really useful feature. You can grab two or more clips on different tracks as long as they're in the same time region, but I agree this would be a fantastic addition.
@@matttinklermusic I wouldn't even call it a feature, every other daw and linear video app under the sun has had this since dinosaurs roamed the earth...even Mac Finder lets you grab non-contiguous items in a list. And it not only can't do it, it hacks and mangles other regions if you try. It's like having a gas car with no petrol cap and it just keeps sloshing out and Ableton just keep ignoring it while they're busy putting fairy lights on the roof. That and the inability to nudge regions by a preset amount ie tick, 1/8 bar etc...mind-blowing.
Yeah it is very weird that it doesn't exist in Live yet. You can definitely nudge clips though! Just select the clip, set your grid to the desired length and use the arrow keys to nudge. :)
They need to fix the performance on M series Macs! Studio One, FL Studio... Reaper and Logic don't randomnly spaz out like Ableton does now. They need to fix which cores they use and how...
@@matttinklermusic random CPU spikes, even in empty projects. Consider yourself lucky/fortunate. It’s not a “me” issue, as a search on Google for “M series Ableton problems” will show enough people with issue.
@@matttinklermusic it's common, at least with the M3 Macs. The CPU spikes randomly in Ableton where an empty project will use up to 80% or more of the CPU, spiking in waves/cycle. It's the way that Ableton is using the 2 cores. Doesn't happen all the time but enough to make one not want to use the program. Considering FL Studio, Studio One and even Logic don't do it says to me its a coding issue. I expected to have such grand experience when I got my M3 mac MBP. Definitely not the case with Ableton.
@geebee44 I genuinely haven't had this happen, so that's really interesting to hear that so many people are having issues. Hopefully they get fixed! :)
100% until it grouping comes back to audio effects, am not touching live 12. This is a workflow killer for me! Happy the fixed it with VST but audio effect.... Deal breaker for me! maybe next update...
@@matttinklermusic who I their right mind think remove grouping was a smart move?? Just leave it like live 11 but add the search bar the added, it in 12 and it would've been amazing! I had my synth, fx vst, mastering,..All group together in separate folders... Unless they fix this, am never upgrading to 12 and might wait for 13 or stay on 11.
More keyboard shortcuts are always welcome!
100% agreed!!
Thank you. I couldn’t bring myself to spend hours going through this update log. You really took one for the team here!
You're welcome! I always enjoy going through release notes. 😁
I've never been this excited about ROLLBACKS lol, but some of these missing shortcuts were driving me crazy since I've spent so many years using them!
This is exactly how I feel about this update 😂

About the mixer peak hold time, 10 seconds was really too long but I would decrease it to 0.5.
I think it would be awesome if there was an option in the settings instead!

All good but I still need to upgrade my computer from an i7 2600 to be able to use this. I'm sticking with 11 suite!
11 Suite is perfectly capable and fantastic!! Definitely no need to upgrade if you're not missing the new features. :)
Still can't grab 2 non-contiguous clips on the same, or even worse separate tracks without grabbing or slicing other regions in between. Mind-blowing.
