Good video, I had the machinist turn down an old set of king pins to use as a guide. It lines up all the shims and bearing. The new king pin can follow behind. I haven’t done it yet but I was thinking about recessing the guide kingpin and putting a super strong earth magnet in the recess. The new kingpin would stay butted up and nothing could shift. Keep up the good work.
@@SAMinMass I am not totally sure what you mean. Basically he just removed material from the first third or so of the old king pin. Enough so if the shims are out of alignment less than half it would straighten up the whole stack of shims with the king pin following behind. As the guide pin goes through, you hold pressure on the bottom or tip of the guide pin. The king pin will stay with it and the shims won’t get out of alignment. Sorry if that was too much info. I am sure you know how to do it. Just figured I would put it out there. Idk how to put a picture on here but if you know how and want a picture of them let me know.
Your homemade tool for taking off the brake shoe return spring is badass. Simple but effective! Great video overall. My only gripe is using the wheel bearing nut socket on an impact...
Seems that today was your lucky day. I have had the end of the axle beam glowing red before the K/pin would come out and never mind having to drill out the cotter pins. Here in the UK a king pin would never get that worn, all trucks and buses undergo a full Ministry inspection for roadworthiness every 12 weeks. A good video thought, thanks
@@SemiWorkin 455k on kenworth t680. Just did the torque rod bushings in rear. Mechanic said king pins good. Said they last 750k. Is that true or do I just go ahead an replace any way
@@thomaswilson8634 our dump truck has only 242k and just replaced both kingpins on the drop axle. The whole lift axle was wobbling and it was a nightmare trying to push those damn kingpins out. Had to use a 70ton press and heat to get them out...
@@jamieg.3829 yeah I called kenworth dealership an told them to go ahead with king pins Friday. If ya gonna do the rear might as well do the front too.
A shop down the road from me had to come and get a 10 ft by 10ft by 6inch plat to chain to the truck in some way. Then the had a come along hocked on so that when the pumped it the two would separate. On top of that we lent the our rose bud torches to heat every thing , the pin never came out and the put everything in new
I dont own a truck or drive one or either fix one....but found this interesting! Great vid! If the wheel is held on by the center nut, what are the lugs on the outside of the wheel for? Drum cover or something? Thanks
Was breaking the pin intentional? i’ve had hell getting the pins out after I break them in half. I guess you would do it to get a nice surface on the pin so you can smack the shit out of it with a punch.

This was nice to watch

How exact was he on turning the guide pins down? This sounds like a great idea.

All that beautiful work and a crappy tire, 🇺🇸👍😎
Yup

Thanks for watching!! Some are easy and others are a nightmare. You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff I see going down the road.

dangerous to heat a axle end.
What do you do a 1998 FLD freightliner the same way? Of the king pins the same?
I'm surprised you didn't show pressing in the bushings and the reamer for proper bushing clearance and magnafluxing the spindle checking for cracks
I thought I was missing something
Beautiful
There is nothing about this process that looks fun. It’s like the truck is fighting the mechanic every step of disassembly.

What was worn - the king pin, or the bushes in the steering knuckle?
Very impressive
is this a grease pact hub? ive only worked with oil style.
I would love it if you could explain what you are doing.
Great video thx
This is a very good video very good good 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
Where can I get the nuts you use for knocking them tierod/arms out?
대형차 하부수리 깔끔하게 잘하네요.
Good job!😃
I watched a video of a guy replacing a Kingpin without removing the tire or anything else.
Thanks for watching!! That might get you off the side of the road but not a long term fix.
Wawww se jeant thanke you very match forever goode job super 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿
What’s the function of the pins you were pounding on? You have a closeup?
What are some symptoms you have a bad kingpin?
Disculpe que modelo es ese muñon, es la primera vez que veo ese modelo
Skipped showing getting bushings out but other then that great video 😊
Wow. I have never seen a double nut unitized hub before
How much for replacing front king pin
How many pounds torquimeter ????
How long it took you start to finish as far as the Kingpin
I wish this was a 24 minute job
@0:15. Thank you for showing what a worn kingpin syntom is like.
My car front wheels stop I had fuel but the wheels stop turning
I’m new to this but where is the oil for the bearings?
Sealed and greased bearings. Replace hub when worn out.
First thing out of my box on a Kingpin job is my big nasty air hammer.
Eric O. approved!
No vi que usará lubricante y aparte no le dio precarga a los rodamientos se van a fundir
Yo no ví que reparó. Aseo?
I dont own a truck or drive one or either fix one....but found this interesting! Great vid! If the wheel is held on by the center nut, what are the lugs on the outside of the wheel for? Drum cover or something? Thanks
centre nut hold the hub and brake assembly. lug nuts hold the wheel onto the hub.
A word from Mr Gravity. When able, position the wrench so you can use a downward motion.
I use a air hammer punch on the king pin bolt....love the old school way ty
Pero no s mira donde lo ajustas con las laminas para q no tenga juego amigo saludotes
Where can I buy that lockout coupling from?
The cars front wheel stop Turing abs help it had fuel in it
Would be nice for a little narration and close up of worn out parts. I do like heavy mechanicals videos
So you dont have to replace the bushing in there
Thanks for watching!! Yes the bushings were replaced check it out here: ruclips.net/video/deGyWu3JEvo/видео.html
What brand king pin did you use?
, 3gf kbkk-ok9
Do you have address please I have king pin need to be replaced?
Two front wheel stop
Lord have mercy 🤣 that air impact needs to retire already, its struggling to remove a teeny tiny hub cap
Those hub caps do not come off easy
The tire wear really wasn’t bad even with that much play in the kingpin. So I guess worn out kingpin has no effect on tire wear after all.
yes it does,as the kingpins wear the camber gets more negative wearing the inside of the tire out. The toe also toes out wearing on the tires.
Boa noite daqui de Portugal gostei do seu vídeo parabéns muito profissional obrigado Hélder Henoch

Holy crap that pin was worn out. Caution... Don't wear headphones and doze off. That impact wrench will make you crap your pants...
Thanks for watching!! I don't understand how the drivers let them get so bad but I see it all the time.
