You forgot to mention Alzado's friend, Randy Roids. That aside, the Raiders were my favorite team growing up, I'm talking back to the Daryl Lamonica days all the way to my favorite, Jim Plunkett. They were tough but their attitude is what I loved, brought on by the great Al Davis. If Al saw any of his players give a hand to help someone up a from the opposing team, he'd chew them out and say let them get up themselves and spend their own energy. If his players would discreetly kick them or elbow them, he'd quietly pat them in the back 😁

My brother and I roomed next door to Lyle in a dorm at Yankton College in 1970. He was a nice guy and one hell of a football player. There was around 700 students in that college yet an endless amount of pro-football scouts came to see Lyle. That's how good he was.

@WickedTornado being from New York it was a real culture shock when I arrived in Yankton. Oddly enough a lot of the male students at Yankton were from the northeast. We used to have keg parties out at Lewis and Clark lake. Locals in Yankton told us there were catfish and sturgeon at the bottom of Gavins Pt. dam that were huge. Did you ever go to the Ice House in town. That was a big hangout for the college kids. We had more fun in Yankton than I ever could've imagined. You're right. It's beautiful country. I've heard the town has really grown since I was there. .

Those were the days for Raider fans! One of the many things that really made the defense great was that Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes consistently ran a man for man coverage which opened everyone else on the defense up and opposing QB's had no one to throw to- and poor old Munoz had to block Alzado? He was lost before the kickoff...

The Greatest Lawrence Golden Tornado. A 3/4 defensive end that recorded 112.5 sacks and nearly 1000 career tackles. 24 forced fumbles and elected to 3 Pro-Bowls. A Super Bowl Champion who was feared on the field. Belongs in the Hall of Fame.

It's a horrible what happened to Lyle Alzado. He gave everything (LITERALLY) to the sport.
"I started taking anabolic steroids in 1969 and never stopped. It was addicting, mentally addicting. Now I'm sick, and I'm scared. Ninety percent of the athletes I know are on the stuff. We're not born to be 300 lb (140 kg) or jump 30 ft (9.1 m). But all the time I was taking steroids, I knew they were making me play better. I became very violent on the field and off it. I did things only crazy people do. Once a guy sideswiped my car and I beat the hell out of him. Now look at me. My hair's gone, I wobble when I walk and have to hold on to someone for support, and I have trouble remembering things. My last wish? That no one else ever dies this way."
