Man, Alzado looked the part, didn’t he? Such a sad situation to see him pass away so young….Both he and John Matuszak…They left this world far, far too soon. Some great players, from that era…..And both did some acting, as well….RIP, Gentleman
This is not when they met. I am sure when Alzado was in Cleveland they played Cincinnati twice in a year.
Yeah the hits folks took in these days were huge.. Alzado later died young due to steroid use.. But even beyond that ..Alzado had speed and an excitable character even before steroid use.. He was always fun to watch and his bad disposition at time made him a great fit for raiders..
Raiders won the super bowl that season
Put Munoz on steroids like Alzado was and it would of been a closer battle.
Munoz might be the very best offensive lineman ever. Alzado, while pretty good is not one of the best defensive linemen ever. He wasn't the best lineman on his own team! Howie Long was.
The Bengals should have forfeited before this game was even played.
we'll steroids will give you a unfair advantage... everyone talks about the Astros cheating... look at the past history of sports and tell me who did it the right way... cheaters in every sport... not much different than professional wrestling... it's all scripted
They're turning football into soccer
I wanna build myself like alzado
Alzado was a great player, Munoz, one of the greatest
None of Today's Players of the National Felons League could handle the Experience of Lyle Alzado back then.
Roid rage
The only AFC team to win a Super Bowl in the ‘80s. And they won two of them.
The way players are getting hurt these days, imagine playing back in these games
Alcohol, Coke and Roids vs Honest men
back in the 80s it was deeply satisfying as a Bengals fan to have the other team fans come up to you and admit they admired Munoz
I played jr high ball Alzado.............. he was a wimp, I trounced him. Then he grew up.
This was a time when men played the game. These days…not so much.
Today's football players are way bigger and stronger than the guys in the 70's and 80's. Imagine if they could legally hit qb's now like they did back then?
The most underrated defense of all time especially how they dismantled every opponent in the playoffs
The good ole days
1:58 pure class
Mr Brady would be just punk boy meat for Lyle Alzado.
Without steroids Alzado wouldn’t have made it in the NFL.
Lyle Alzado went to Yankton College in South Dakota. Ken Anderson went to Augastana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The two Colleges are less than 40 minutes from each other. Wondering if them two ever played each other in College?
Alzado was nothing but a cheater hus entire career and that's all he'll be remembered for.
I would have liked to see the Raiders move Howie Long over to play Munoz
Alzado number one
Man, the 1983 NFL was a different beast from today. It’s like the defensive players just want to kill the guy on every play.
Poor Lyle was "pickled" in steroid juice. While it made him the useful animal (to the NFL) he became it also took his life . What a sad trade off.
I saw Munoz play when I was a kid at USC...they ran all over Alabama Ohio state Michigan notre Dame cal Washington Cal Texas Tech LSU ucla Stanford. .like 39 games in a row 2 guys won the Heisman..Charlie white and Marcus. .Ricky Belk almost did.. ( Tony Dorsett) .but a lot of it was Munoz .he was just as geest in the NFL. ..
As a native Angeleno just getting into football those were the days! Including the euphoria of SB XVIII and LA's first SB title. I also recall the sinking feeling of losing to the Patriots in 85'. That was the beginning of the end of that Plunkett, Alzado, Marcus era but the ones that followed were almost as memorable. I have vivid memories of watching Elway desperately fleeing across the Coliseum sod with Howe Long in hot pursuit 😆
Don't make the beast angry.
Boring
Lyle freaking Alzado
Weapon X and Atwater gotta be the 2 of the most larger than life safeties of all time. Guys who just play way bigger than they were. Bob Sanders too but he broke down. Atwater was pretty tall tho. Dawk really was a smaller player driven by pure heart and technique. Ya gotta have some screws lose to be willing to take on an any power back like that at his size. And dude straight baptized him. Props to Bus tho bc he straight ate it and then proceeded to drop a rack plus on em
Alzado was a product of his era. Lax rules, little regard for the long term safety of its players. His penchant for steroid usage, including HGH needs to be noted. Combined with an innate arrogance. Unlikely he would have been even on the practice squad without PEDs. Had he not perished from his excesses he undoubtedly would have been hard pressed to show his face in public, knowing that without drugs he was just an arrogant loud mouth. All this bolstered by his foolish attempt at staying relevant after he retired, by an even bigger intake of drugs, displaying workouts in public, shirtless. Touting his physical prowess. His whole life was a fraud.

This is so painful to watch. We were so good in the 70’s,80’s and 90’s. What a team. Yet now….
This cracks me up because Alzado and Munoz played each other several times before this when Alzado played for the Browns. There is game footage on YT from the 1980 season of Munoz dominating Alzado when Munoz was a rookie and Alzado was a nine year veteran.
The '83 Raiders are one of the biggest reasons that the 49ers were the team of the 80s
Man was it miserable looking at that artificial turf!!
Lyle was probably one of Anthony's biggest challenges.
not even close munoz destroyed alzado
Looked like the opposite here.
Munoz was the best left tackle of all time
The Greatest Lawrence Golden Tornado. A 3/4 defensive end that recorded 112.5 sacks and nearly 1000 career tackles. 24 forced fumbles and elected to 3 Pro-Bowls. A Super Bowl Champion who was feared on the field. Belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Don't forget he also got in a ring with Ali!
Artificial turf...green concrete.
Alzado many big defeed Munoz
ROIDS
Look at all these bigots leaving out the steroid abuser had a good game against a latino SMH Ones a Hall Of Famer and the other is A Shame to the Sport !!!
