    I'm glad you are all enjoying the video, I'm seeing a few 508's on Irish roads. It's still one of my favourite cars this year!

  • @robbret

    Video is not a lie. I've been driving a 508 1.6HDi on loan for the last few weeks and it really is a great car. Just the right balance between French "magic carpet" and firm German-style sporty suspension. Great ergonomic driving position for large persons (I'm 1,88m). It blows the Volvo V60, the Passat and the Superb (driven them all) plain out of the water. Some parts of the interior trim look/feel cheap though.
    Also, the fixed carpet is not very high quality.
    The 1.6HDi engine is quiet and has enough low-end grunt to get around. Uphill with 4 adults on board not so hot, don't expect any miracles.
    Looked quirky to me at first but it grew on me fast.

    Peugeot (and probably Citroen but i am not a Citroen fun, which is the same company) is arguably the ONLY company left on this planet that gives consumers value for their money. This Peugeot is worth at least 1.5 times what they sell it for. Went to the dealership and for 24K Audi would give me an A4 that had a nothing more than a driver's seat and a wheel, while Peugeot for 16K would give me a car that had everything. Literally, i would have to pay double (or at least 1.8 times) to get the Audi at these specs. and still, the Peugeot would look more luxury.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 9 лет назад +1

      mi051225 Yes, Citroën are certainly just as good as Peugeot. The C6 was really a low-cost Bentley or Rolls Royce regarding feel and comfort, but so much prettier than a Royce and just as much of a head-turner with its massive presence and luxury. Long-term reliability is quite reasonable on both PSA brands - certainly not quite Mercedes or Lexus, but easily not worse than BMW which aren't exactly cheap - and their rustproofing has also always been excellent - just try to find a 1998-2001 Mercedes without deep rust in it, i dare you! Citroën's QA seems better than Peugeot's, but neither is exceptionally good. Peugeot styling is certainly immaculate by anyone's standards, while Citroën has its fans and its detractors. I really like what Citroën does to steering wheels sometimes - the 1-spoke wheel in the very old models, the static hub wheel in C5. Details like this are truly hypnotizing.
      They are kind of difficult to justify buying new though, because their used prices are always in free-fall. Perhaps that's why PSA is always at the brink of bankruptcy. Another reason is that these things last a while, they don't just die when the warranty runs out. A lot of people just won't buy a new car while their 1997 406 with 400 000 km on it still runs as if it just came out of the factory with a few minor repairs throughout the years.
      As to being the only value-oriented company on the planet... i don't think so, depends on particular desires. There are plenty of value-oriented Asian companies who give you great tech for your money, but none of them give you that PSA's touch of class. PSA has also not always been the same. The vehicle dynamics was easily among world's best in the 90ies: Xantia Activa is still the fastest cornering mass produced car ever, well ahead of any Porsche, even the 406 Coupé can out-corner a BMW 3-series and an Audi A4 AWD of the era, and 205/106 were beyond any competition too. Then dynamics went down the drain in the 2000s and is now recovering. Mid 90ies interiors were quite bad when compared to Audi and BMW, but got increasingly better later on. PSA is also quite obviously a highly distinguished engine developer, but their gearboxes generally don't get high praise. "Style over substance" - to me, certainly not, but this is an understandable opinion that some people would voice.

      Sad to say the car manfactured by good company but .... the problem still make me sick. From one to another. Please think twice if anyone think of buying this car ...
      Unless the distributor do something to overcome the problem in Malaysia.

    I have the 2.2 HDI auto GT version, which has everything. I like it, and I bought it because my Mondeo had 76K on the clock and the new version (Fusion) is not due here in Australia until the 1st quarter of 2014. It has amazing power, handling, style, sophistication...everything you said, Bob. The only bitch I'd have - and it's a minor one - is its lack of interior storage.
    Mine is black, and while I have always avoided black cars (especially here in Aus) I believe it looks best in black.

    @chibbyshaba The ride over Irish roads is fantastic. The last few things that are done to a car before it goes on sale is suspension and Peugeot are very good at ride and comfort so you should have no trouble there. Don't worry you're getting the right car!

    It is indeed a very good car. One thing that surprised me when test driving it is that the ride is quite firm. I expected a soft, somewhat boring ride from it (since I have a Renault Laguna II at the moment, and I expected all french limousines are like that), but damn was I surprised. This car has stiff (but comfortable) suspension and it drives like nothing else in class. Its got a better set up than Audi A4, its more comfortable and more fun to drive. And it wasnt even the GT model.

    just bought a 508 SW 2.0 163 hdi auto - what an amazing car! - I would say this is an underated vehicle: the quality and drive are fantastic; great level of equipment too!
    OK it may not quite steer like aBMW or Mondeo, but who cares, I could drive this car for hundreds of miles, its so relaxing, my only complaint is the retractable shelf rattles when retracted - however it is being replaced by the dealer FOC - go on test drive one, you'll be impressed ...

    At altitude all engines tend to loose power although they run leaner due to the low air pressure that said, all European models are tested in the Alps and most are tested towing trailers up a huge alpine pass. Ford recently published pictures of the Focus getting those test done but Peugeot put the cars through the same tests.
    You should have no problems with altitude and the 508, shame there's no diesel option as they do better high up because of the turbo

    The interior quality is very high in the 508, I can't imagine anything much going wrong. Peugeot are putting a lot of work into the quality of the car. That said, I only really see the car when it's new, although it does get rough treatment from the Press it's hard to say what it'll be like in three years. Maybe there's an owner here who can tell us?

    If you're talking about the new Superb I'd have a 508 SW instead. I'm not to keen on the design of the i40, I think it might date badly. Superb is huge inside, more limo than family car. I still find the 508 nicer to drive though

  • @BobFlavinVideo
    @BobFlavinVideo  12 лет назад

    What country are you in?
    I ask this because the 3 series saloon STARTS at 38,350 so where are you getting the 31k price?
    With my prices you can't compare the two cars because even at both lowest prices there's an 18k price difference. The only ones you can compare the 3 series too are the Audi A4 and Merc C-Class.

  • @Bejanut

    I don't think you will respond, but wanted to ask you, if you believe that this car would be a good buy in late 2017, against a mondeo, passat and insignia? I want to buy a second hand SW model from 2013-2014? Of course I'll take the 2.0 hdi 163 bhp with a manual.

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  6 лет назад

      +Alex Bejan hi Alex, I read every comment! The 508 against the Cars from the same era is a great buy. Very reliable engines but I would check that every light works and all electrics are 100%.
      The Mondeo is a bit better for cabin storage and the Passat is more fuel efficient.
      While the 508 has been left for dust in the current line up, the year you are looking at is great.
      Best of luck with it

    • @Bejanut
      @Bejanut 6 лет назад

      Bob Flavin have you seen how big the trunk is for the estate version of the peugeot compared to the passat and mondeo, because on the internet it says it only has 512 liters, which makes it the smallest of the 3.

    The ride (vehicle had 19" wheels) was too firm over rough roads but rolled badly in corners.
    The cup holders....how hard is it to provide decent cupholders that when your coffee spils...and it will spill doesn't destroy the 5K worth of electronics below the cup.

    I think u should consider having a look on the Volvo S60. Costs 258,000 EGP for the base line (loaded with specs and safety features though) and it has a 1.6 L Turbo engine which is better than that 1.4 L turbo found in the Passat. It's a mistake to buy a VW in egypt, every VW owner I know in egypt are complaining of the terrible service they have; one of our neighbors sold his VW Parati and bought a Kia (Carens) for there way better service...imagine! :D

    Bob, has PUG managed to get back the good chassis feature old big Peugeots used to have? They lost it in the 407. Sadly PUG comes it almost bottom for most of the quality surveys (JD Power etc), even Citroen is higher! and while that pertain to old cars, its the reason the boring Passat sells in droves even at a higher cost with alot less kit.

    its really amazing car but what if i compared this with the volvo s60 since here in egypt the horse power for volvo 180 horse power while the peugeot is 150 horse power.

  • @hiabdelwahed
    @hiabdelwahed 11 лет назад

    the volove fuel is 92 but 508 fuel is 95. Volvoe truck is small and the spare tire has to placed in the truk so actually you have no truck in S60

    This 508 or an Audi A4 ?

  • @BobFlavinVideo
    @BobFlavinVideo  12 лет назад

    two very different cars tbh, the A4 is a smaller saloon than the 508, the Peugeot is closer in size to the A6. I think I'd take the 508 over the A4 though.

    Peugeots are always good cars as long as they are few years old, after that the starts to be trouble

      Yea, I'm in the market for a "new" car but I'm a bit unsure about going Peugeot again. I currently have a 2006 407 and literally every gadget is broken in it, sunroof, radio screen, heating, central locking, etc.

    I heard about the jobs going, it's a shame it had to happen but it might be the making of the company as a whole. Won't help the people out of work though

    You won't go far wrong with any petrol engine because they are simpler things than diesel. I did drive in Egypt years ago and found the roads to be rough enough but the same can be said for some of the roads in Ireland.
    The 508 suspension will be adjusted for your country, as far as I know they soften it a bit for Egypt so if anything you'll find it even more comfy. Both the Mondeo and Passat will be firmer on the road. I'd take the 508 over either of the other two

    @cechchelsea09 If you’re talking about Passat then you need to research more because 508’s better. And I feel that french brands are improving. Peugeot’s 3008, RCZ or 508 and Citroen’s DS Range are class leading cars.

    Probably part of it is to do with the cost of converting the car to right hand drive, which I can see them all laughing at when they add it up. The Brits shouldn't have sat back and let their car industry die.

    take a look at 05:43 the skirting light.. something is wrong

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  10 лет назад +3

      There's nothing wrong with the light, it's a cornering head lamp which activates when you indicate or turn the wheel in that direction. It's standard on a lot of new cars now

    Nope I'm done with French cars, they may have pulled their finger out making better cars but how reliable will this 508 be in 2021? I'm predicting this exact car will have had a replacement turbo, full front suspension, and the electrics will be playing up. You can bet your bottom buck an equivalent Kia/Hyundai will be proving sterling service still at that point. And if you're wondering why I'm only talking about french and Korean cars, its because they're good value 2nd hand.

  • @swunt10
    @swunt10 12 лет назад

    no im not mad. thanks fanboy for being offended. maybe, just maybe you need to look at the specs and not just the starting price. lets say a diesel with 115 HP and alus (not the expensive ones of course). i don't bother to look up other equipment because, frankly I don'r care. so peugeot 30.000€, bmw 3 series 31.000€. so even if there are diffrences like wagon and limousine its very close. and one is a peugeet and the other one is BMW. imagine the resale price and the prestige.
