      @@JMB676 I noticed you run mostly stock carburetors. Do you feel the aftermarket knock off carbs aren't worth the money/don't offer enough extra power for the $ spent?

    • @JMB676
      @JMB676  2 года назад +1

      I run stock carbs cause I find that unless you want be hassle it with the carb durning season changes they just don’t have enough benefit for me on my current builds. Now you see me on my daily most the time which a daily to me should be convenient and simple. But with that said there’s other reasons too and the biggest is (these next numbers are just to illustrate for you not actually correct numbers) so let’s say your motor can move 100 cfm of air through it but you put on a Pakistani or a ok or a mikuni 21mm carb, well those carbs are designed for a 200 cfm motor so now at your motors peak rpm and performance it’s only able to use half of the carbs abilities which will help you loose power. A stock carb can only run a 110cfm of air through it so your motor can use all of it and by being able to use it all it also keeps UP the velocity that the air moves at. So if you then put on another carb like I mentioned and you can’t use all the cfm it offers your also slowing down the velocity te air can move at which will cause fuel to puddle and other issues but they all fall into the category or poor performance. Now if you have a performance build for a race bike then you will definitely get the benefits of a larger carb but even those guys will only run a 19-22mm carb on average cause even with the reeds and billet cases the motor can still only move so much air, remember these or any engine for that matter is nothing more then a fancy air pump and they can only move a certain amount of air no ,after how much power it makes cause the case is so big the piston is so big and what have you. So if you have a bike you ride as a daily that is a lil more performance oriented then you can get benefits from an aftermarket carb bit then you will need to use a stuffer if it’s a reed setup so you can get the velocity aka speed of the air; to move though the plenum so that it creates enough vacuum in the manifold to pull up the fuel so it can atomize and be put into the case for the next cycle. Now there is a lot more to all this but for me I like reliability and simplicity on my daily rides and a stock carb offers that, I’m currently building a OZ reed motor build for my buddies new bike and I’m trying to run it with a stock n/t speed carb because yes the motor is definitely faster n more power then stock motor by a good bit but I also know it’s goin to be used daily and the super small amount of power I’m sacrificing by running a stock carb instead of a vm18 or a 19mm oko or something like that is nothing compared to the peace of mind I’ll have knowing my friend won’t be messing with the fuel/air mix screw by accident thinkin it’s the idle screw or something stupid like that. Hope this helps you and helps understand why I run a lot of stock carbs.

      @@JMB676 I dunno if I'd be pissing away $50 on a VM22 carb/G2 reed complete kit without seeing any benefits or should just get a $25 G2 reed kit only & use stock carb or go piston port with something like a $25 PHBG 19mm clone carb & rig up a DIY 45 degree intake to solve clearance issues.
      The G2 reed would solve clearance issues....Right now I'm using shorty intake, stock carb, mild port work, $45 mz65 clone pipe & the engine always feels choppy when trying to cruise at 1/2 throttle which I think might be coz the shorty intake. The spark plug is a perfect chocolate brown.
      I'm thinking/hoping the $50 VM22/G2 reed would #1 give me smooth throttle range once tuned #2 more power on the ported 49mm iron jug.

    That's my favorite motor I have it on my John Deere Softail mountain bike and of course it's ported and I don't remember the blowdown and all that but I I put a degree wheel to it I think I ended up with around 20° blow down but anyways that thing just absolutely rips I had a 32 tooth on it and it still pulled me up hills and the top end was insane so I put a 36 back on it it's just a little funner and it still does about 50 miles an hour it's insane and always runs good I've never had an issue knock on wood Motors been on there for like almost 2 years

      I'm hoping I didn't I screw my 49mm iron jug up by making my transfer port holes too wide. I did make them quite a bit wider but no wider than the transfer ports themselves, basically mimicking an open port design width. Since the transfer holes were pretty small. I assumed much of it was due to side casting similar to the overhang in all the ports & that they should be the same width as the transfer port itself. I only put a beveled directional flow edge on the side facing towards intake .....I just noticed Jonny's ports aren't as wide & chainsaw port holes look small also, same with the phantom 85, it's T port holes don't look as wide as the ports themselves...As if the smaller hole is to create pressure to help push the mix out better .... Since I didn't have a degree wheel. I did like everyone else & just took off all the iron casting overhang from all ports & did the typical- slightly wider ex port with 1mm off the roof & 1mm off bottom intake & rounded edges for smoother directional flow. If I knew I made the port holes too big I could always fill em in some with JB weld at an angle..... Any feedback would be nice. I know it's hard to say 💯 without actually seeing my port work. I guess it'll either haul ass or won't. I'm hoping for 40 mph top speed so I still have some bottom end power for hills. With max rpm no more than 8000. So engine will last longer.

    Johnnie, you're always in search of a reliable daily driver, I know you're a 2-stroke guy but, why no 4-stroke engine for your daily?

    • @JMB676
      @JMB676  5 месяцев назад

      This is definitely one of my older vids now and in the beginning I was always on the look out to build a reliable motor from a 2 stroke. Not sure y I always did the 2 strokes but I think it’s because so many people said you can’t. That 2 strokes are not reliable no matter what. Well now I still only run 2 strokes but I have definitely figured out how to make them reliable as if not more then a 4 stroke motor imo. I get was 15k plus out of my daily motors and really never work on my dailies unless it’s bike related or something but not the motor. On jokester for the motor I tinkered a bit when it was brand new after the I tial build but after a week never again besides a coil. Mostly I think it’s the sound and the RPM that the 2 strokes have that I enjoy so much. I’m not against 4 strokes but there’s far less soul to them and I have worked on so many over the years that they just don’t appeal to me at all for a bike ride, also a huge turn off to me is the pull starts. I hate the ideal of having to pull start my bike. It makes me think it’s just a lawn mower or a toy rather than my ride. Fella cheap to me I guess cause a real car truck or motorcycle you just start with a key or pop the clutch if it’s a manual and these motors I pop the clutch and the idea of a pull start takes the interest away more than anything for me.

      Actually I have done that a few times and it literally always rebends in the same or similarly way with a few days every time. So that doesn’t work, I’m guessing because the integrity is compromised. However an old drill bit works best by far or an old grade 8 (class10.9) bolt if you got one of them that fits. Basically the stock pins just can’t hold the amount of preload I run on my clutches but that’s a problem for future me at the moment….

They were my first company I tried to work with and buy parts from and stuff but a shipment got messed up and that totally normal;shit happens right? Well when I called to get it worked out and ask about other parts I got into an unwanted fight or word scuffle with Brian about stuff and basically his customer service was way under par and after being treated like that by him I just stopped using them and even tried to tell others to be mindful of what happened. I got my first yd from them and in my very early videos I even told others to use them and go to the website but after my windowed piston was lost in the shipment and I got talked to how he did I never used them again.
