Iam also a proud owner of the R.E.Himalayan in India(Mumbai).Instead of going through the rigmarole of connecting the USB charger to the Battery and thereby putting a load on it.Better to connect any and all accessories(Charger,Auxiliary Lights, dual Horns,GPS unit,LED flickering indicators etc to the ignition switch without snipping any original wiring and just adding the accessory wire to the ignition socket and have an on/off switch on the handle bar which is much better. Also to enhance the handling, install the R.E.Sleet aluminium handlebar with rubberized barends and the handling becomes butter smooth and for performance add Motul4T, 15W/50.300V engine oil.(change reqd every 10k kms.
Jeet Kandhari I had never even considered considered hooking up to the ignition switch. I have seen chargers with on/off switches but they looked really big. Maybe I’ll order one and try it out. Great idea. I have never heard of those bars but I will look online today. I took it in at 300 miles for the first service and they did the oil change. For the future I will check out the oil you recommended. 10k km seems like a heck of a lot between oil changes. Save some serious $$ that way. I appreciate the wisdom. Ride safe!
Thanks for replying. For more information on best upkeep of the Himalayan follow HDT customs(Hemant Darbar-from Mumbai India.mob:+91-9819184223)on RUclips. He is a technical genius. Also he manufactures saddle stays/handles apt for Himalayan.
Nice. Can’t wait for the TAT videos. Hope I get my bike soon. Maybe we’ll meet up one day when I start touring all of New England. Keep up the good work.
That sounds like an interesting way to do it. I have since upgraded the battery to a dual post lithium battery. The bike hooks up to one side and a battery tender and usb hooked up to the other and it has been really solid.
Of course it's staying on when you take the juice directly of the battery. What a surprise ! You have to put it of the positive or negative, depend ot the circuit, after contact to turn off when the contact is off. For exemple to the light or everything else don't work when the contact is off and automatiquely work when the contact is on.
dude, that no beard looks it great. cant wait for the TAT videos! a small observation for the cable to power the USB charger, you shoul get those cables thru isolation or a electrical tape to protect them more from abrasion under the fuel tank! use a relay for powering the charger only when the ignition is on (even if the engine is not running but the key is turned in the contact to on)
Cristian Valentin Dobre This is awesome advice. I was thinking about getting some of that rubberized wrap to put around it. I will have to look into how to wire in the relay. I was a little worried it would drain the battery. So far so good. Thanks for the advice!!
At my work we were equiping BMW F700GS as fast response ambulance for accidents (i work in a bmw dealership for bikes), and all da cables are passed thru a cable protector, iti like a plastic hose, black, 1cm in diameter, and the thiknes of the material is 0.5mm. it's very good and it's very resistant in time
That is what I will do. I will look online for some hose and get extra for future use as well. That is a pretty cool idea using a F700GS as an emergency vehicle. I would LOVE to have one of those some day $$
my opinion is that the tracer 700 is much better and fun then f700gs. i'm waiting for the tenere 700 to be released and test drive it. dont know if the links below works scontent.fotp3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/36814398_1842180209172851_5777252563883655168_o.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=e57f13e276460b5338835d23ffdd9c42&oe=5BE1180F scontent.fotp3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/36760832_1842180495839489_1308618797845839872_o.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=7723cc7be72f6799e779e47d191a72a4&oe=5BA353B0
I tried the link and it opened a pic but it wouldn't load properly. I went out today and worked on some audio stuff with another camera setup. I need a better wind cover and to place the mic a bit farther from my mouth but it made a big difference. Getting ready to upload another video. Gear video next.
It is nice that it unplugs. I left a GPS on on my Tiger overnight and it drained the battery. You can use that SAE port for a battery tender and I think they have an SAE jumper set up. Be safe on the TAT. Looking forward to the video.
azdesertdog That is really good to know thanks. Someone had suggested hooking up a relay and it won’t draw any power. I’m going to look into that. Ride safe!
I would recommend this on any and all bikes personally. I use it everyone I ride. I ended up upgrading to a lithium battery with double posts so it’s now hooked up to a separate side of the battery. antigravitybatteries.com/products/starter-batteries/restart-oem/atz7-rs/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwktKFBhCkARIsAJeDT0hTfOC0iSETFXTlhkv7vXURBRACaoVqPoFNiypruq92rlWrdqsDhIkaAsRKEALw_wcB If you end up wiring one in let me know how goes! Ride safe
Just subscribed today. Hat down to your editing skills. I like your videos a lot. Salutation from ROmania. By the way what is your height as I am looking to buy this little adventure bike for me as well. I am 1.84 m with 107 kg weight, and I am afraid I will be cramped on it. Thank you
I should think that it would work just find as it isn't a directional line and should be able to be used to feed power back to the battery. I will try it and let you know. Thanks for the idea

Jeet Kandhari I am headed that way right now. I really appreciate it.
Love the woodpecker in the background.
We purposefully leave some dead trees around the back woods for woodpeckers. Some are huge! Cheers

I saw a video where a guy installed his usb unit connected to the tail light wiring on his RE Hym. Used some added wire length

Appreciate the feedback. I eventually went back and added a relay and fuse with a switch so I can kill any power coming off it properly.
@@fireballmalone1 do you have any link/reference to the relay you added?
GL on your trip, cant wait to see the next video.
Matrix8369 Next time I’ll have the map! Lol
This video, and many of the commebts below, are great! Im looking the also get a usb charger on my Himmy

fireballmalone1 did you success making it?
Very well made video, wish you all the best for your journey :)
Zodd412 Thanks! The map didn’t show up before I left and had to come back a bit early but video is uploading now!
Short and sweet video contains all that is needed. Some other videos are garbage by wannabees!
Thanks! Hopefully it helps someone. I have found a lot of use for it and it still works great. Ride safe!
Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you can help with putting an immobilizer or alarm system on the Himalayan?
I have a cbr650r would you recommend this. Thank you awesome vid. Subbed. O and what's the update on this, is it still a winner?

Thanks for posting, can you hook a battery tender up to that plug now?
I should think that it would work just find as it isn't a directional line and should be able to be used to feed power back to the battery. I will try it and let you know. Thanks for the idea
fireballmalone1 thanks, I bought the same one so it’ll be nice to use a tender on it. My hima is arriving in a few days.
Most excellent!
TheRoadRatt Thanks, I’m going to install a relay I think to make sure it’s not drawing from the battery
I've never installed a relay. Will be interested to watch.
TheRoadRatt I’ll make sure to make a video when it do it.
Very good and fast.
Bolivar Moscoso Thanks! It doesn’t seem to be drawing any power from the battery as long as it’s disconnected. It worked great on my trip.
When you disconnect the phone it quits charging because the port is not being used. DUH
