You know that microsoft secretly wants you to use rechargeable double A's right? Because rechargeable AA batteries are a tiny bit bigger, so they would fit better :) i had the exact same "issue" with my controller right out of the box, alkaline batteries would fit barely, but rechargeable ones just snap in place without any problems. What a dope looking console man! And i also got the gears of war bundled with my console, but i got just the regular white xbox, but i love my xbox, i think it's still a kickass console to have even in 2022 and beyond! This console made me upgrade from a Playstation 2!
In my country we have EB Games which is owned by Gamestop, and I was looking at buying a refurbished Xbox One or One S from this. So this is pretty helpful.

To be honest this console looks sick, and the contacts for the batteries that are the flat slanted plates might be too far into the case so you might need to take a screwdriver and put it under the contacts and try to bend them back to shape, if youre too scared to do that because you think it might break(which is understandable) you can probably just bring it back to gamestop and switch it for one that actually works properly
I think the batteries were fine. The tiny chrome panels on the controller are too far bent in. Get a knife or flat screwdriver and bend them out a bit.
