- Our friends at BBI Autosport had a hell of a year at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb this year… taking the WIN in Open Class and Trophy Class, and 3rd in the TA1 class. But with the race being cut slightly shorter this year, mountaintop victory donuts up top weren’t really a possibility… so of course we offered up Tire Slayer Studios as the perfect place for them to celebrate with Lucy, their wild 1,100hp Porsche GT3 Turbocup.
Congrats to the drivers Raphael Astier, Tanner Foust, and David Donohue on their podiums… and of course our man Betim Berisha for making it all happen!

I looked up the axles they mentioned, and HOLY HELL, those are some strong stuff. They are made out of 300m which is a high strength, low alloy steel similar to 4340 chromoly with silicon and vanadium but with slightly more carbon and molybdenum. 300m is melted and heat treated in a vacuum presumably to prevent any oxides from forming. The metal is normally used for aircraft components like landing gear.

300m is frequently used by the off-road boys for axles and u-joints, really just anything that needs to be strong as hell. It is definitely pricy though, upwards of $300+ for a single u-joint.
Have you ever met someone, listen to them talk about their craft and thought “Damn, that dude loves his job!” …. That’s exactly why Betim and his team are one of the best in the biz! Congrats guys!

The aero and engineering on the pikes peak cars are out of this world, amazing car.
We need a full on 10 hour documentary next year similar to the GymKhana Files. This stuff is just too damn good and tears at the seams with passion.

The GT2 and GT3 had one of the best exhaust sound at the race. Saw them from Glen Cove.

Just saw this now, Im learning so much from the build biology series!
The Honnigans are good people giving back to charities and stuff it's hard to hate on these guys .
My Mother would have loved this car. She was an Instructor for the Porsche Club and used to Race Porsche Club Racing in a Prepared Stock Class 944, and SCCA Touring B & C in a Golf GTI. She passed not that long ago, and seeing this thing just made me instantly think of her. This machine is like her spirit given vehicular form. She would have flogged this thing to the limits.
She once ran down a brand new early 2000's Turbo 993 or 996 on the track in the old 944, boy was that guy pissed! lol. threw a tantrum and everything, cause not only did he get dunked on by a 20 year old car, he got dunked on by a woman, he totally lost his shit and stomped off like kid taking his ball and going home.. the clown even left the event. Damn i miss her.
Dementia is a stone cold mother of a diagnoses, preventable dementia even more so. I wouldn't wish the experience or watching ones mother fade from reality and descend into schizophrenic delusional fantasies at the drop of a hat, or not recognizing you as her son/daughter on my worst enemy. She is free now and if there is any damned justice she is lining up on some celestial grid with all her heroes, i hope she smokes em all.

Holy crap, thanks. Yeah, that was me. I designed the front aero (fenders, inner fenders, splitter, canards and radiator duct) on the BBI cars and built the splitters.

@@ejicon3099 thanks ... I've known Betim for about 10 years and I guess things finally came full circle. It's been a rough few years on the Subaru kit side of things but the new and improved version is finally trickling out the door. I'm glad you picked up on the "aerosim" mention in the video. This project was pretty crazy but everybody pulled together and somehow made it happen. Once I get caught up on Subaru kits, I'll have a meet at my shop for all the old school customers. :)

The last half of this video is one of my favorite’s from Hoonigan.
I went up the mountain about a week before you guys did. When I saw all the hillclimb stuff, I was wondering if it was just left up all year lol. I didn't realize if I had stuck around I could have been there for it. Those switchbacks are no joke and these drivers must have adamantium balls.

I really wish there were more hill climb events in the US. Pikes Peak is obviously legendary, but it would be great to see more courses that are spectator friendly and aren't necessarily as advanced as Pikes Peak so it would entice more people to get into hill climb.

That thins is fucking bonkers!! I really want a more detailed breakdown on the engine set-up. I wouldn't think a high revving NA GT3 engine would handle turbocharging well, would have thought they would have gone with an engine out of a 911 Turbo instead. Interesting.
