- Enjoy this short video about a Bentley Speed 8 I recorded at Monza Circuit during the 2019 Monza Historic by Peter Auto, racing in the Endurance Racing Legends championship.
This Speed 8 is chassis nr. 004/1, the first of five built, and it only took part in the 2003 Sebring 12 Hours (4th overall) and in the official Le Mans tests a few months later (for the 24h race it was replaced by chassis 004/5, the actual winning car). It is moved by an Audi 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine able to produce around 600 hp.

Watching the Bentley win Le Mans in 2003 from the start line grandstand with my Dad was one of the most emotional motorsport experiences I've had. Will stay with me forever.
My most emotional experience in Motorsport was when i saw a man putting his weaner in his cars exhaust.

Actually it is hugely long and wide just very flat. The more modern Prototypes since 2014 are a lot smaller though

@@dankorcz8158 actually it's considerably wider and longer. It is just much flatter. Those old LMP1 cars are about 2.1 meters wide and 5 meters in length

Not that there’s one here, but it just occurred to me why I love the Zonda R so much. Among other reasons, it’s because it shares much of its gorgeous aesthetic features with this absolute masterpiece. Love this car.
I went to Le Mans 2003 with my dad. I personally think that this is the most beautiful car ever to be made.

How do you always get access to the garages? Do you just walk up and ask if you can film a bit or do you work at the track?
Just act like you're supposed to be there, works for me.
Well, its only F1, where access is nearly unpossible.
Every other Racing Serie its no Problem.
In DTM or GT3 you can just walk in the Pits, and touch the Cars if you have the Ticket.
And that here is just some Test, Free Practice.
If you would be there, you could also walk around the Pits.

ask for tickets. I was working this event in another category and you'd be surprised how relaxed generally it is. Just don't be like they are at Estoril, letting everyone get in the way which is really unsafe in a live pitlane

@@Nicks62999 Hmmmm debatable, I'd say it's a close second, the Toyota GT-One '99 (the last revision of the car) is an incredible machine, and to think, they made a road going version of it that is almost identical
The 1999 Toyota GT1 and 1999 Mercedes CLK-GTR are the only 2 that is better looking that this car.
@@longnamedude3947 The only thing that puts the Speed 8 in 2nd place for me is that it's basically a reskined Audi R8 with the same engineering under the body.
Toyota GT One on the other hand was a full in-house designed car that, despite the reliability, proved superior to other factory LMP/GT1 cars in terms of pure performance.
@@Nicks62999 According to the designer-engineer of the Bentley, while they started with Audi R8 designs and parts, during development so much was changed to bring it to the best it could be. (I..e, that it is its own car much more than people realize.) Plus developments in the aero and cooling duct systems between the 2001 EXP Bentley and the 2003 Speed 8.

Gran Turismo 4 brought me here, beautiful car, reminds me of Toyota Gt1 a lot.
Have been lucky enough to see the Le Mans winning car twice in action around Silverstone. Once back in 2003 fresh off it's victory and again in 2010. Both at the Bentley days they have there each year. 2003 was great as the old track layout was still intact and they were pushing the car pretty hard for a non competitive day. Watching it come sweeping out through the old Bridge corner into Brooklands and Luffield was incredible. Suprisingly small too when you see it in person but such a pretty beast.

I thought that looked like a Marcos from behind, but the vid didn't show the front or side, so... So the racer that swoops behind the Bentley twice really is a Marcos.
@@carlcushmanhybels8159 Yes, it is. Eurotech build the Marcos cars from 2000 on in the Netherlands and raced them in these bright colours.

This 2003 Bentley Speed 8 is absolute *"LEGENDARY"* for its time and it is still to this day after just about 20 years😔, (16 months coming) even though I was almost 2 years old in june 2003.
That car was a beast at Lemans!

Please clarify; this is not the 2003 Bentley LMP, but a version of the earlier Speed 8 EXP that raced alongside it.

Timeless Beauty
This one of these cars that seem to be timeless. It was a beauty back then and still looks gorgeous and modern today. It's true that the overall shape of Le Mans Prototypes hasen't changed too drastically over the past 20-30 years, still some cars start to look more outdated as time goes on, no this one though. Slap a shark fin and some extra wings on it and it could be a 2020 design, hard to believe it's nearing its 20 year aniversairy.

Back in 2003 watch on the Porsche Curves exit esses, all you could hear was the aero at work. The Bentley with the Audi R8 power plant ran like clockwork that year. On the looks side, I prefer the 2001-2 speed 8 to the 2003 EXP Speed 8.

Don't know if you can answer this question but there are there any races over in England in the last weeks of March?
Seems like this lmp car turns using 50/50 steering, that is half torque steering, half front axle steering. This car has otherworldly turning capabilities and, quite possibly, has the longest tire longevity ( can go many more mile/laps beyond the competition before needing to replace the tires).
