The end, though. When we get packages at work, we yell "What's in the box" to this day!
That's so funny! I'm so doing that on Monday, Lol I hope somebody gets it. 😬😁
Whats in the booox🤣🤣🤣pitts acting was trash in that scene
Dang 😂!
This was released the same year that THE USUAL SUSPECTS was, for which Spacy won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He was untitled in SEVEN so no one had a clue who John Doe was until he walked into the police station!
Total mindfuck!
He even looked just like Kaiser Soze on the boat during the chase away from his apartment.
@@dneill8493 it’s Keyser Söze
@@randywhite3947 Lol you're right. My bad.
@@dneill8493 nah it’s good
@@randywhite3947 Autocorrect. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. 😀
When I came out of the theater after seeing this, I was literally trembling.....not from fear, but from just disgust and horror and empathy for Mills and also for the people who go thru this stuff on the job and what they lose of themselves (I've known many cops and criminal justice professionals thru my sis, who was a US probation officer)....all of it just hit me hard. So well done, by all involved.
This is one of the best suspense films every made. The construction of the script, and the direction are just perfect for making the audience feel disturbed, confused, and disgusted.
Yup.
David Fincher is a fantastic Director, but his movies tend to be VERY dark. Fight Club and The Social Network should be high on your list.
Kabir you’re so cute! When you said “I guess they’re going to solve something because they’re detectives and they solve things”, I giggled. I love your channel and your personality!
I love how the name "Kevin Spacey as John Doe" pops up as soon as the credits roll. This movie came out just a few weeks after 'The Usual Suspects' so Spacey was already a name that was making the rounds.
Kevin Spacey wasn't even advertised or shown in the trailer. He just appeared in the movie and wow everyone
This is such a wild ass movie.
'What's in the box?!?' Is an absolutely iconic line.
Taking Lives is another wild ass movie!
Such a brilliantly intelligent screenplay. Everyone knocked it out of the park. It has been my favorite movie ever since, none have come close to beating it.
“Why did he let him live?” Lol I started grinning when you asked that. Now you know why lol
Lol like, but im not certain in that moment he planned to target Mills already...
I think the primary reason was because Mills was not then on his list to fulfill part of his mission, and he was a killer with a specific mission not wanton or reckless.
Looks like he would have shot him to get away, but he didnt need to do so in that moment.
I suspect though this could be the moment he decides to plan to include him/her. We hear from him next suggesting that them finding him was not predicted yet and accelerated his schedule and he was sorry to hurt "one of you" but we know he knows the name from Mills shouting it on the stairs.
So he could have been plotting it from then, or he could have decided to go see her after Lust. ? .
He let him live cos' Mills won the "Dumb Fuck" contest. At the last minute too.
Cos' obv John Doe planned this whole thing for a long time [Sloth alone took more than a whole year]
+ he also never heard of Mills [and his wife] or about him coming to work in the city when he started to plan all this
+ Se7en victims should have been found in se7en days
=
John Doe had another person for Wrath when he was planning this, but Mills turned out to be SO GOOD
as a mindless dumb fuck, that such a calculating methodical mind as Doe
immidiately decided to risk his planned preparation and include him in the set
I personally think Doe chose Mills on the stairs. They made a point of Mills' anger issues, underscored by Somerset and Mills' conversation after Doe gets run off stairs.
*I want to say more but I don't want to ruin the surprise.*
The detectives did all they could to prepare for a physical ambush, not knowing John Doe had a psychological one cooking
This one definitely impacted me the first time I saw it. Dark, but incredibly well written and acted.
Yup.
"He could he anywhere, and there's kids in the building..." has a whole new meaning now, with Spacey being in this movie...
So freakin good. After my brothers and I saw this we came out of the theater and said we need a drink. Freaked us out with the beginning music. Such good acting…what a plot. So evil and so well done. Good reaction Kabir.
It's true that, in cinemas, most of the films are reboots, sequels, etc. in an effort to bring in audiences. Studio heads are running scared with fewer people actually going to the movies anymore, so (like Vegas gamblers) they're trying to bet on so-called "sure things." That's why most of the truly daring or interesting/unpredictable stuff is often found on streaming platforms these days.
Yup.
Such a great movie! Ending still gives chills 😬
Same here.
Great reaction! I liked hearing how you were reasoning out which direction you thought the plot was heading in, and your observations about the staging of the scenes. I saw this in a theater back in 1995, and I was traumatized/haunted by the sloth scene for weeks. What happened to his body over a year's time.... (shudder) This was a masterpiece of storytelling and visual presentation. Glad to see how much you enjoyed it!
Misery is another good movie based on Stephen King's book. I'm not sure if you have seen it before.
agree. great suggestion!
Dominique, I had to leave the theater because Kathy Bates was so convincing....and I'm a SHRINK!😅
@@camillemayers103 I believe you. She was so convincing in this movie.
Honestly Kabir, no... they do NOT make movie masterpieces like this anymore.. I'm 50 years old, and I was watching this in the theaters, along with Silence of The Lambs, and other great films..terrifying storytelling!! Not just "slashing and burning". These told perfect, thriller " who did it??!!" stories!! The closest I've seen, in the past 10 years, is " Gone Girl" , with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. It's almost a 3 hr film.. but what a MIND F**K!!🤯🤯 It's the last movie I saw that I can remember that had me SHOOK, just like Seven and Silence of The Lambs!! Great reaction!!
I like how you edit your movie reactions. You keep in the important plot points. A lot of reactors don't do that. For people like me who've seen pretty much everything worth seeing, it doesn't matter, but it's helpful for people whose first exposure to a movie is the reaction video.
Fincher's filmography *is* incredible.
Having seen most of his work, I finally got around to *The Game* (another gem from the 90s) a few months ago and wow.
The strange thing is many people think this movie is violent but only Detective Mills shooting John Doe is the only kill on screen.
In keeping with the spirit, you don't see Paltrow's head in the box. Everyone I know who has seen this swears up and down how grisly her head was in the box. But this is the old 'less is more' axiom, where we as the audience will have far more graphic images based on suggestion, rather than what you see. See also Pulp Fiction, violence is off screen and in the audience's minds.
You might enjoy Morgan Freeman as a detective “Kiss the Girls”. And “Along Came a Spider”
You should try “Fight Club” next, if you haven’t already… another Fincher/Pitt film.
yeah those lamps are great. i call 'em bank lamps, the green topper shield part.
One of my all time favorites!
My dad was a doctor R.IP. I have his old Elm wood roll top deck with those green lamps. Timeless, they also remind me of war rooms from WW2. Those trees are car air freshener
I was about to eat and take a nap. Now I have to watch this with you. One of my favorite movies.
Thanks in advance.
When this came out my dad went to see it in the theater by himself. After I got home from baseball practice we got in the car and went to see it again the same day. Til this day still one of the best movies I ever seen.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX!?!
ONE OF THE BEST HALLOWEEN COSTUMES I EVER SAW WAS GWYNETH PALTROW WEARING A BOX SIDEWAYS ON HER HEAD WITH THE FLAPS OPEN! GOT TO LOVE IT!
I also love "The Game" from 1997. Another one that is well acted and keeps you guessing (although I haven't seen it since back then, I think it would still hold up).
A: great movie
B: I dig how you were actually a moment ahead of a lot of the little hints
C: I would have fulfilled Wrath 😈
Kevin Spacey, much as he's a vile creep that's to be loathed in real life, does really knock it out of the park in most of his roles. If you haven't seen it yet, I would suggest 'The Usual Suspects' for a Master Class in Acting... well deserved Oscar.
Oh wow, Ive never forgotten THIS movie. Still gives me shivers. You know which part.
“What’s in the box!?!” Classic
Yes, barely 50% of all murders are solved. And 92% of those are friends and often family, so random killing often goes unsolved. Those are rare. Usually someone the victim knows.
A movie I can strangely enough watch over and over and over again. "What's In The Box?"
I'm not a cop but I am a volunteer firefighter in a small rural area and yes it is hard to separate work from home seeing dead bodies and car wrecks dead kids babies it really messes you up
plz watch taxi driver its one of the best movies ever made
Taxi Driver is a classic Kabir you gotta watch it
This is for sure an all time dramatic thriller/horror. You're right they don't make movies anymore, they're all CGI cartoons, not many truly great actors and for sure the directors/screenwriters are lacking when all you can get are characters from 80 year old comics.
Yes, I'm really disappointed in how many possibly excellent movies are being ignored to film the claptrap that seems to be popular now.
Not much of a challenge for anyone involved, more of a get rich quick mindset.
This movie..... man it's crazy ...
Another movie along these lines that will keep you guessing and blow your mind is "WILD THINGS" with Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon and Neve Campbell
I really enjoy watching your reactions to some of my favorite movies. Please consider reacting to True Romance. It's one of the most violent movies with a great story. It was written by Quentin Tarantino, and directed by Tony Scott - the brother of Ridley Scott. The movie has Brad Pitt, Samuel L Jackson, Christoper Walken and Val Kilmer.
When I first saw the movie I was thinking he may have planted a bomb or something. When the delivery van came into view, I thought that could be a bomb.
Then I thought that there is no way John Doe would kill that way.
I figured it was her head about the same time as Kabir.
This movie is a masterpiece, and one you really have to use your brain. Another movie like this (takes a lot of thinking) is Memento. I think you would really like it is you haven't seen it before. I have not seen a movie like it before or since.
Sadly, they don't make movies like this anymore. Although this movie had some graphic and disturbing imagery, and a few jump scares, it was done in a perfect way. There has been some really good movies made over the last 2 decades or so, but they are few and farther between. All the newer movies rely on shock, gore, explosions, CGI, overacting, etc...
A great example of a movie that doesn't need CGI, constant jump scares, and shock is THE THING (1982). If you liked Predator, you will love The Thing. The score is brilliantly done by Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter's great direction, all the actors do a great job, and cinematography was brilliant as well. That movie is 40 years old and is even better when I watch it today. Almost all practical effects and had there been CGI, would have ruined the movie IMHO.
Anyways, this was a great movie and love watching classics like this.
P.S. Other classics you may not have seen are:
Amityville Horror
Exorcist III
The Shining
Psycho
Halloween
Blair Witch
Some newer horror I really liked was:
Paranormal Activity
REC
REC 2
Creep
The Conjuring 2 (didn't think I would like it, but it was good)
The Stangers
Vacancy
I think The Strangers is completely underrated. It freaked me out!!
You got a sub my man. Banger of a film. Chilling, expert cast.
Great reaction! Another great Morgan Freeman movie is Kiss the Girls. You’ll love that movie as well.
One of my all time faves
Great reaction. Since I love thrillers, here are a few more. They are older movies but still good.
Robert DeNiro - Cape Fear
James Caan - Misery
My dad was a detective. He worked many homicides. There is a reason cops have a very high divorce rate and many are alcoholics. Tough, tough job. Morgan Freeman one of my top 5 actors. He is outstanding.
LOVE this movie! One of my favorites!
Love Morgan Freeman in all movies. This movie never fails to disturb me. Really disturbing psychological thriller, not a horror movie. The ending is shocking. As an answer to your question, though I'm not law enforcement but medical field, however have family in law enforcement and it very much does effect them.
I actually didn’t care for the movie itself, but I’ll sit down to watch Morgan Freeman no matter what he’s in. He is sooo good.
@@lkayh why didn’t you like it?
@@randywhite3947 Just a matter of taste. Neo-noir isn’t my favorite, and the premise stretched credulity a bit much for me. Plus it felt like the author just spent way too much time thinking up the most sadistic and gross possible way to kill people for each of the sins. Which, I know, was kind of the point-but to me that’s not so entertaining. And yet I STILL sat down for it because Morgan Freeman. I have yet to see him in a role that he wasn’t amazing.
yeah seen this once... don't think I can again. Great movie. Enjoy!
Great review and reaction ! This is a classic thriller!
The Lust murder is still one of the most disturbing murders I've seen in a movie. Whoever came up with it has a very dark mind.
a true thriller classic- great reaction!
One of my favorite movies is Fallen with Denzel Washington and a host of good actors like Donald Sutherland as well as John Goodman and many others that you'll recognize. It will freak you out as you watch it
It's one of a dozen blue ray I bought so I can pop it in when I want a good chilling movie with great twists and turns. I notice something new I didn't catch before almost every time I watch it.
John Doe's sin was envy, Mills' was wrath. He planned that shit PERFECTLY. I never get tired of wondering how the writers came up with that ending.
Your face when you saw Victor I PEED a little lmao 😂
I lived in a great apartment on a gorgeous lake. Fuckers of course didn't tell my boyfriend and I that the major RAILROAD TRACK ran over the side of the lake we couldn't see and had no access to, except by boat. We found out when I was brushing my teeth at 3 am and the whole apartment started shaking and it sounded like the inside of a fire station! Still lived there for like 3 years. 😂
This was one of my favorites of this genre. It's right up there with "Silence of the Lambs." I've been seeing articles with titles like, "Why Movies Nowadays Suck." There's no originality anymore. Priorities have shifted. It used to be about the art. Now it's all about money.
You better brace yourself Kabir...this is a shockingly intense movie!
my all time favorite, this movie is so good
I remember seeing this movie at the theater on a date.. the ending is definitely 🤯
This is one of my favorite movies
Kevis Spacey didn't want to be billed until the end because he was just coming off Unusual Suspects so he felt if people didn't know he was in the movie then they would guess he was the bad guy. Also, this is a David Fincher film, if you look at his filmography, you will find a lot of Brad Pitt from Fight Club to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. My cousin is a camera man for him and says he is a perfectionist but a delight to work for which says a lot about any boss.
Great reaction, Kabir! Was fun to have you thinking out loud and trying to solve the mystery!
I remember seeing this movie in the theater and leaving feeling destroyed. Talk about a movie that takes you through it. 😭
Thanks!
This expression alludes to the scene in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice (4:1) where the moneylender Shylock demands the pound of flesh promised him in payment for a loan, and Portia responds that he may have it but without an ounce of blood (since blood was not promised). Peace out.
To this day my friends and I say, "what's in the box!?" When receiving gifts.
Awesome sending great reaction
Gone Girl and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are both great David Fincher movies.
Great reaction!
Fincher has some great ones. Fight Club and Zodiac are a couple of films worth reviewing
You will think about this movie for decades. I have.
David Fincher is one of my favorite directors of all time. He also directed Fight Club which is another fantastic watch.
2007 “Dead Silence” it’s movie that keep you guessing all the way to the end that’s great.
I saw this when it first came out and one thing it really impressed me was that the city itself seem like yet another character in the movie. So much of it is so gruesome that I have not even remembered what was in there. I just remember it was a really good, intense movie.
Really good movie 🎬 I saw it at the theater at the time.
Great reaction. 😊
Yeah, Fincher's great. He did Fight Club. He also did that great series Mindhunter. Canceled after two seasons but still worth watching.
Yes Kabir. Detectives are detectives. Detectives solve crimes . Thanks for the clarification. 😂😂😂Love you man
Oh Yeah, thats my Number One ever!!!🤩🤩🤩
You should react to "Snatch" if you haven't already. Good movie. Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones. And then maybe Green Street Hooligans
This and Schindler's List are 2 movies where everyone left in silence.
American Beauty is cinematic history, even though…. Kevin Spacey. I will never not love that movie. Now I know my next reaction search 😉
Movie recommendation.. Sleepers. Awesome cast and story!
Yeah please no more superhero movies I loved that comment of yours!
I think you’re forgetting when this film came out. Mobile phones weren’t even available to many people except doctors and drug dealers and they were the size of bricks. You have to look at this from a 90s perspective.
Glad that you reacted to this. One of my favorite movies. I think that Kevin Spacey didn't do any press for this and was absent from the opening credits to preserve the reveal. I think this is one of only two movies that I really like Pitt in along with 12 Monkeys. Morgan Freeman is pretty much always good.
Never fails. Never freaking fails. The second I sit down with some lunch someone's posted a reaction to this movie. I'll be back, I need to eat this before we get into it Iol.
plz watch taxi driver
This movie is brilliant!
Buying Milton on the “black market”. I can’t lol big enough for that.
Brad Pitt actually broke his hand when he filmed the ally scene, and he just went through with the scene. Oh he and Gweyneth Paltrow were engaged when they made this film. Oh and Kevin Spacey was nominated for two films that year this one and The Usual Suspects which he did win the oscar for Cheers.
Spacey was not nominated for Seven. He did win that year for Usual Suspects
This movie has become one of my favorites!!!! Hauntingly realistic!!! Amazing acting!!! Pitt and Freeman were amazing....but Kevin Spacey was so believably terrifying!!!🎬📽🎞❤❤❤
Part of the magic of this suspenseful movie is we don't get to witness the killer doing any of his workings
If you like ‘Seven’ then ‘The Usual Suspects’ should also be on the list of films to watch.
Almost a perfect script, wonderful performances, stellar score and fantastic cinematography - Fincher really nailed it with this film.
Pitt is holding his arm awkwardly during the chase scene because during filming he slipped on the car hoods and fucked up his arm.
ps. "it leads me to believe that it's gonna be a really fun movie" :DD
Did you notice the only scenes that were in contrast to the dark scenes in it, were brighter....the ones with Gwenyth Paltrow
The weak commits murder. The strong TEACHES! You will learn before you bleed out!
