Thank you so much for this video. We paid $180 for a washing machine guy to come and check out why our machine was leaving gunk on our clothes - he checked the pump and hoses and that is about it! Needless to say the problem didn't go away. I came across your video yesterday, so my husband and I pulled apart our machine and attacked it with the pressure hose....it is sparkling now. A great tip for anyone who owns a pressure washer..... Use it for this job! Not only did I not have to scrub, it is also extremely satisfying to blast off all that scrud. It also blasts out all the little holes that were blocked.

Dee - You are my hero!!!! I was experiencing "gunk" coming out of my F&P washer and adhering to our clothes. I called a repairman who told me to put a tablet of a product called Affresh into the washer and run the Clean Up cycle. He said i should do it at least twice....which I did and it just made the problem worse!!! I called him again and he said he didn't know what to do. My husband (who isn't very handy) told me to go and buy a new washer. My daughter said - Mom - go look for a You Tube video....and I did just that. You inspired me with your easy instructions and calm voice. And when I heard you had your machine for 18 years - I thought - mine is only 9 years old - I can do this! So tonight, with my daughter's help, we took apart the machine and found more "scrud" that I'd like to admit. I NEVER knew you were supposed to take your machine apart and clean it like I did tonight. I feel like a million dollars now...and I think we just saved about $1200 (what we probably would have spent on a new washer). Thank you so so so much Dee!!! I don’t use a cloth on the inner bowl because you can see that these holes have been punched through from inside and they leave sharp edges which are like a cheese grater and they’ll take the skin off your knuckles very quickly if you are just holding a cloth
Oh my goodness this video started me down a rabbit hole. Was looking for videos on replacing stabilizer bars and the agitator. Let’s just say I had way more gunk in my washer then you did, about 14 years worth! So embarrassing. But, thanks to you, I got it all tore apart and back together. DeeAnn, you are a wonder! I have the identical washer and it isn't draining properly. In doing online research I stumbled on your video and at first though "What can this lady possible teach me!". However a few minutes later I was like "Whaaatt!!"! About the time you showed how the drum just lifts out I was blown away! I also love my Fisher & Paykel the clothes come out so dry the electric dryer finishes before the end of the next wash cycle. First time that's ever happened. Anyway great tutorial, so clear and concise. I humble myself before your expertise! That also includes your explanation of what that little spring is for. Ours was just hanging on that strut since the red plastic thingie had fallen off. I made a duplicate out of aluminum stock and now the washer is totally quiet!

@@deeannmartin924 Your tutorial helped me understand how all these parts work and I was able to trace my problem to a MOSFET, transistor and resistor on the control module. Can't find the replacement MOSFET so ordered a used board off eBay for $89. Hope to get mine repaired as a backup!

Great tutorial! I inherited one just like this (could even be the same) and .. yeah it definitely needs a clean. Everything came apart just like you demonstrated. Even the inner drum was easy, it just sits on the same spline as the agitator so it just needed a firm tug and then it came right out. Only problem is that it's also pretty filthy in other areas, such as around the lid, control panel, lid switch, and down the bottom of the metal outside part .. basically everywhere else .. So .. Will have to figure that one out.
You are super awesome! Came home from a long day of work to the bad news that a heavy load of towels had unseated the drum. Your instructions to unscrew and lift the lid were a life saver.

Thanks very much for this, I've just gone through the routine myself based on your video, albeit I didn't take the toothbrush to every nook and cranny. I did struggle with what to do with the spring which in your vid was visible but not connected. I took off the top circle of the drum and moved it around out of the way with the spring still attached. At one point I moved it too far and the spring popped off that end. It was still connected to the bar running down from that corner of the chassis so I was able to pull it back up. But reconnecting it was not easy and I've stretched the end of the spring wire in a way I'm sure it's not supposed to be. In retrospect I probably should have removed the top of the assembly in that corner to slide the spring off the bar, leaving it connected to the plastic circle. Anyway it's all back together now and I'm doing a full hot cycle, hoping it all holds together on fast spin!

Thank you. I just purchased a second hand portable washer from my upstairs neighbor. It smells so bad of cigarette smoke, especially when it's spinning. I will try this.
We had a mouse in our machine! Thank you for your clear demonstration. We ended up taking our machine apart because we leave our lid up to dry and a mouse chewed the edge of the plastic rim and had gotten inside the machine! It was confirmed that the mouse was still in there by filling with some cold water which caused the drum to move noticeably a couple of times. I then drained the water out using the spin cycle to pump out and stopped before it actually started to spin. We then fed a rope in to between the bowl and the outer casing (left for a few hours in the dark) to help the mouse get back out. Then we moved the rope to between the bowl and the drum (with lights out overnight) in case it was stuck there. The next morning we took the drum out to check it was not still there - thankfully the mouse did get out. We have seen some gruesome video's where people found mouse carcases/bones. :( Then we took the opportunity to give everything a thorough clean :)

I would have called in the troops to take care of that - that's my mouse phobia speaking. Good for you!! Thank you for this video I just moved into my place and I have never had this brand. My agitator is loaded with "Scrud" I am assuming mostly from fabric softener it is coated in a sticky waxy thick layers over a 1/4 inch thick down the entire agitator, I can barely see the wing nut I wasn't sure that came off your video nailed it for me. Unfortunately my arm is to large to reach in the center of the agitator. I'll figure it out, this thing needs a massive cleaning.

If you always use white vinegar instead of fabric softener, once you've deep cleaned it, you won't have a problem.At least every 5th wash should be hot. It should be deep cleaned at least every three months. You can use special washing machine cleaner with very hot water or white vinegar and hot water. Otherwise you will have the same problem on a regular basis.Pulling washing machines apart is a last resort and not always easy.
Great machine made by an awesome New Zealand company. What I would suggest, install a lint filter. They don't come standard with the machine but can be brought online. You will see a major improvement.

Good video, congratulations a warrior lady, good cleaning by the way. My question is what thing did you wash to have broken the agitator blades in that way, they are normally very resistant despite the fact that they are made of plastic.

Thanks DeeAnn, great video. I wish I had seen it prior to doing exactly the same thing with what appears to be the same machine (GW612 is mine). Mine stank but it is years old and was never fully cleaned and brown all on the outside of the inner drum. Hopefully now its better that we did all the same things you had. The inner drum had fluid in it, which I assume is some kind of ballast, as it appears to be sealed. I was hopeful that wasn't the source of our mould smell. Thanks again, great job.

I enjoyed and learnt a lot watching your video of Dis metalling,cleaning and putting it back together, I got the same washer, exactly 18 years old, i got big problem with fluff smothering my clothes, I cleaned the machine up to the agitator part but never cleaned the drum, do you think I have to do all what you did, clean the drum to solve my problem or is there any other easy way to stop the fluff coming on to my washed cloths. Just found your video because my 2008 machine just started to leak from the bottom. It's not happening each time I wash a load and I don't overfill the drum per the troubleshooting suggestion in my manual. Any ideas or have you ever had a leak which you repaired yourself? Thanks for any help!

I discovered a lot of black mould all over the drum and plastic liner tub ..YUCK. I'd make sure your work area is well ventilated, clean parts outside if its an option. I used hose, brushes, Eucalyptus oil and a natural lemon cleaning agent that's better for environment and left parts out in the sun to dry. I found the drum is not super hard to get out but its awkward to lift off the gear shaft and may initially seem heavier until it clears particularly if first time its been off since assembly. If you take it slow and talk to it nicely, it will unseat. Thanx DeeAnn for your helpful vid.

I don't remove the agitator, and yes, my quilts are clean! :-) Depends how bulky your blankets are... you know what? Give it a try, if you're not satisfied you can always take your comforters to the laundromat. Best wishes! 💚
Any tips on getting the drum out? When you started lifting that’s exactly what mine does. It will lift up to a certain point but then it gets stuck on a nut or something and it won’t come out after that. Maybe I don’t have enough muscles
@Erin Habing, Yes, takes a bit of muscle! I'm short, about 5'5", and I had to step on a low step-stool to get the leverage needed to lift the drum. Try that, or ask a strong friend. You got this, Erin! ~Dee
Very nice video DeeAnn and cleaner than the best repair person would do, but how did you not scratch the heck out of your fiberglass tub? The Fisher & Packel wash drum's drain holes in the stainless steel are as sharp as the tip of knives 🔪 on the outside. They will cut or scratch just about anything they come in contact with. Don't ask how I know🩸. You didn't mention that wash drum holds a lot of water in the base that doesn't come out even when you lift it out of the machine, that's partially what makes it so heavy and awkward getting it out.

Honestly, I had no problem with drain holes, no scratches at all - I just made sure, as I lifted the wash drum out, that they didn't touch anything - including my skin. :-) I'm on the short side - about 5'4" - and I was able to lift this out by myself with one good HEAVE-HO.... if you're shorter, you might need a sturdy step stool or a friend to help. Others have commented about water in the wash tub, but mine didn't seem to have that problem. There was a LITTLE water in the bottom - maybe a few cups of water total? - and I soaked it up with a few paper towels, easy peasy. If there is a LOT of water left in the wash drum or the fiberglass tub, perhaps you have draining issue? Just a thought. I got mine apart with the exception of the drum I can't get it to come out. Is there something else I should disassemble before pulling it out? That is the part of the video that you had paused at.
@Scheryl B, good question! Nothing additional to disassemble - I had to pause the video only to adjust the tripod/camera out of the way so I could set up a step-stool. I'm 5'4", and I needed height to get the leverage I needed to lift the drum - and use your muscles! Don't be timid, engage your core, brace your feet, and LIFT. 🙂 Heave ho! If you have a strong friend, two people should be able to do it. Best wishes, and keep posted, will you?
Yes, I bought mine here in the US back in 2003.... in checking fisherpaykel.com today, I'm not sure if they're still selling washing machines??? Oh, dear, this makes me sad. 😞 I'm looking to purchase a new dryer, not sure I'll be able to. I'll update here as I learn more. ~Dee 7/9/2024
Hello thanks for the videos, I have the same machine and my clothes have a bad smell I Can only smell it on some of my clothes at it seems to be on the end of the clothes if that makes sense more on the collars, I cleaned out the machine like you did but I'm still having this problem its driving me crazy, I've also used vinegar and bicarb but still same problem...its strange because the smell is only on a small area of the clothes not all, anyway if anyone has any ideas or the same problem please let me know...thanks

Yes, I love the 1000+ rpm.... when the cycle is done, my clothing comes out "damp dry." I can dry a load of heavy towels in about 30 mins. I love it! :-)
My husband purchased a refurbished FP washing machine recently. I'll admit, I was not impressed when I first saw it because it seemed so different than anything I've known with Samsung and GE washers I've had in the past. What's more, I don't think the thing had ever been cleaned... probably why it was replaced! 🤢 This video was extremely helpful! Wish it had been my scrud to clean, but it came clean nonetheless! I ran one cycle of hot water, highest level, with white vinegar. There was a small amount of scrud in the drum after the spin cycle. When I had the drum in the bath tub, it sounded like there was water in the top "ring" (not sure what you would call it? Rim, maybe?) There was no obvious way to access it, though. I'm thinking there may be scrud in there. What are your thoughts? Run another cycle before adding clothing? Or maybe run a load of towels?
@Stephanie Mahan, just seeing your msg today, 5/7/2021. :-) If the top "ring" is what I'm thinking it is, you should be able to remove it - if memory serves, I address this in the video. There are small clips around the perimeter of the "ring," loosen those and it will lift off easily. Another hot water cycle with vinegar certainly can't hurt. Hey, keep me posted on how things go? Hey, those rings at the top (and bottom) are intentionally filled with water to stabilise the machine during high-speed spin. Do not drain them as it will probably cause a lot of out-of-balance errors.
Yes just one thing is that you need to be careful when scrubbing that drum on the outside because it is just like a cheese grater and one has to take care not to rub your knuckles or hands-on that particular surface.
Question I have new used fisher pay. Just washed my bed sheets and the spin was all on one side. Wonder if the spring loose is was still on the washer. What could it be ? Thankfully k

They are great machines it’s a pity there not made in NZ anymore. there toploaders are made in Thailand now and front loaders dishwashers and probably other things made in China by Haier

(section 12:23 for reference) This washer came with the house bought the house and I hated it, but now I think I didn't like it because it was soooo dirty! @@fernandoninjaskill I ended up sucking it up with shop vac- I don't think there is any way to drain it. Just remember to take your filter out of your shop vac :)

I may have removed the white tub and rinsed it out in my tub, and then put it back.... OR - and I think this is what I did - I rinsed down the side with a *little* water, and then soaked up the scruddy water with paper towels. I love Ashley Walker's shop vac idea - I don't own one and if I did, I would have used that for sure. Thanks for chiming in, Maria! How is your machine working now, 2 months later?

@@deeannmartin924 so much better! I think I also did the same as you, soaked up the scruddy water with a sponge and then repeatedly drained and sponged until it was gone. One thing I learnt was to be a bit more careful in the bath when scrubbing...I ended up scratching the bottom of my bath as I flipped the drum horizontally to scrub. Lesson learnt!

Besides cleaning the drum is there a lint filter somewhere? Thank you. Mine is about as old as yours. Can hardly wait to clean it as I have blown three pump motors, probably cause it is so scruddy and linty.

The other machine is totally jealous .. a question, are all the holes in the tub you removed open ? Like are they all draining holes ? I can’t see through nearly all of mine, besides some that seem to run diagonally? Well done by the way ..
@Brett Wilkinson Thank you! So glad you liked my video... yes, if I remember correctly, all the holes are open, and yes, they're for draining water out during the spin cycles. I agree, some of them run diagonally, and you may not be able to see through them directly. Interestingly, I recently did a video taking apart my dryer - needs a bit of editing - will post soon! :-)

Mine is also almost impossible to remove. Gonna have to wait for hubby’s muscles to do this one. I did replace all four of the stabilizer rods so I get credit for those. ❤️
@@deeannmartin924 Good. Was able to to finally get it off. Was shocked at the buildup of junk in the very bottom of the washer. The part you can’t normally get to. All clean now, our laundry smells as clean as they did when we first got the washer. I do the vinegar wash every week now. Thanks again for the great video.

Thank you so much for this video. We paid $180 for a washing machine guy to come and check out why our machine was leaving gunk on our clothes - he checked the pump and hoses and that is about it! Needless to say the problem didn't go away. I came across your video yesterday, so my husband and I pulled apart our machine and attacked it with the pressure hose....it is sparkling now. A great tip for anyone who owns a pressure washer..... Use it for this job! Not only did I not have to scrub, it is also extremely satisfying to blast off all that scrud. It also blasts out all the little holes that were blocked.

Dee - You are my hero!!!! I was experiencing "gunk" coming out of my F&P washer and adhering to our clothes. I called a repairman who told me to put a tablet of a product called Affresh into the washer and run the Clean Up cycle. He said i should do it at least twice....which I did and it just made the problem worse!!! I called him again and he said he didn't know what to do. My husband (who isn't very handy) told me to go and buy a new washer. My daughter said - Mom - go look for a You Tube video....and I did just that. You inspired me with your easy instructions and calm voice. And when I heard you had your machine for 18 years - I thought - mine is only 9 years old - I can do this! So tonight, with my daughter's help, we took apart the machine and found more "scrud" that I'd like to admit. I NEVER knew you were supposed to take your machine apart and clean it like I did tonight. I feel like a million dollars now...and I think we just saved about $1200 (what we probably would have spent on a new washer). Thank you so so so much Dee!!! I don’t use a cloth on the inner bowl because you can see that these holes have been punched through from inside and they leave sharp edges which are like a cheese grater and they’ll take the skin off your knuckles very quickly if you are just holding a cloth

DeeAnn, you are a wonder! I have the identical washer and it isn't draining properly. In doing online research I stumbled on your video and at first though "What can this lady possible teach me!". However a few minutes later I was like "Whaaatt!!"! About the time you showed how the drum just lifts out I was blown away! I also love my Fisher & Paykel the clothes come out so dry the electric dryer finishes before the end of the next wash cycle. First time that's ever happened. Anyway great tutorial, so clear and concise. I humble myself before your expertise! That also includes your explanation of what that little spring is for. Ours was just hanging on that strut since the red plastic thingie had fallen off. I made a duplicate out of aluminum stock and now the washer is totally quiet!

@@deeannmartin924 Your tutorial helped me understand how all these parts work and I was able to trace my problem to a MOSFET, transistor and resistor on the control module. Can't find the replacement MOSFET so ordered a used board off eBay for $89. Hope to get mine repaired as a backup!

Great tutorial! I inherited one just like this (could even be the same) and .. yeah it definitely needs a clean. Everything came apart just like you demonstrated. Even the inner drum was easy, it just sits on the same spline as the agitator so it just needed a firm tug and then it came right out. Only problem is that it's also pretty filthy in other areas, such as around the lid, control panel, lid switch, and down the bottom of the metal outside part .. basically everywhere else .. So .. Will have to figure that one out.
You are super awesome! Came home from a long day of work to the bad news that a heavy load of towels had unseated the drum. Your instructions to unscrew and lift the lid were a life saver.

Thanks very much for this, I've just gone through the routine myself based on your video, albeit I didn't take the toothbrush to every nook and cranny. I did struggle with what to do with the spring which in your vid was visible but not connected. I took off the top circle of the drum and moved it around out of the way with the spring still attached. At one point I moved it too far and the spring popped off that end. It was still connected to the bar running down from that corner of the chassis so I was able to pull it back up. But reconnecting it was not easy and I've stretched the end of the spring wire in a way I'm sure it's not supposed to be. In retrospect I probably should have removed the top of the assembly in that corner to slide the spring off the bar, leaving it connected to the plastic circle. Anyway it's all back together now and I'm doing a full hot cycle, hoping it all holds together on fast spin!

We had a mouse in our machine! Thank you for your clear demonstration. We ended up taking our machine apart because we leave our lid up to dry and a mouse chewed the edge of the plastic rim and had gotten inside the machine! It was confirmed that the mouse was still in there by filling with some cold water which caused the drum to move noticeably a couple of times. I then drained the water out using the spin cycle to pump out and stopped before it actually started to spin. We then fed a rope in to between the bowl and the outer casing (left for a few hours in the dark) to help the mouse get back out. Then we moved the rope to between the bowl and the drum (with lights out overnight) in case it was stuck there. The next morning we took the drum out to check it was not still there - thankfully the mouse did get out. We have seen some gruesome video's where people found mouse carcases/bones. :( Then we took the opportunity to give everything a thorough clean :)

Thank you for this video I just moved into my place and I have never had this brand. My agitator is loaded with "Scrud" I am assuming mostly from fabric softener it is coated in a sticky waxy thick layers over a 1/4 inch thick down the entire agitator, I can barely see the wing nut I wasn't sure that came off your video nailed it for me. Unfortunately my arm is to large to reach in the center of the agitator. I'll figure it out, this thing needs a massive cleaning.

If you always use white vinegar instead of fabric softener, once you've deep cleaned it, you won't have a problem.At least every 5th wash should be hot. It should be deep cleaned at least every three months. You can use special washing machine cleaner with very hot water or white vinegar and hot water. Otherwise you will have the same problem on a regular basis.Pulling washing machines apart is a last resort and not always easy.
Great machine made by an awesome New Zealand company. What I would suggest, install a lint filter. They don't come standard with the machine but can be brought online. You will see a major improvement.

Thanks DeeAnn, great video. I wish I had seen it prior to doing exactly the same thing with what appears to be the same machine (GW612 is mine). Mine stank but it is years old and was never fully cleaned and brown all on the outside of the inner drum. Hopefully now its better that we did all the same things you had. The inner drum had fluid in it, which I assume is some kind of ballast, as it appears to be sealed. I was hopeful that wasn't the source of our mould smell. Thanks again, great job.

I enjoyed and learnt a lot watching your video of Dis metalling,cleaning and putting it back together, I got the same washer, exactly 18 years old, i got big problem with fluff smothering my clothes, I cleaned the machine up to the agitator part but never cleaned the drum, do you think I have to do all what you did, clean the drum to solve my problem or is there any other easy way to stop the fluff coming on to my washed cloths.

Just found your video because my 2008 machine just started to leak from the bottom. It's not happening each time I wash a load and I don't overfill the drum per the troubleshooting suggestion in my manual. Any ideas or have you ever had a leak which you repaired yourself? Thanks for any help!

I discovered a lot of black mould all over the drum and plastic liner tub ..YUCK. I'd make sure your work area is well ventilated, clean parts outside if its an option. I used hose, brushes, Eucalyptus oil and a natural lemon cleaning agent that's better for environment and left parts out in the sun to dry. I found the drum is not super hard to get out but its awkward to lift off the gear shaft and may initially seem heavier until it clears particularly if first time its been off since assembly. If you take it slow and talk to it nicely, it will unseat. Thanx DeeAnn for your helpful vid.

Have you washed a bulky item like a comforter by removing the agitator and did it come clean?
@loria9814, hello! 🙂I'm sorry, I'm just seeing your question today, July 9, 2024. I have indeed washed blankets in my F&P, up to King size - but thinner quilts, NOT thick comforters. I don't remove the agitator, and yes, my quilts are clean! :-) Depends how bulky your blankets are... you know what? Give it a try, if you're not satisfied you can always take your comforters to the laundromat. Best wishes! 💚
Any tips on getting the drum out? When you started lifting that’s exactly what mine does. It will lift up to a certain point but then it gets stuck on a nut or something and it won’t come out after that. Maybe I don’t have enough muscles
@Erin Habing, Yes, takes a bit of muscle! I'm short, about 5'5", and I had to step on a low step-stool to get the leverage needed to lift the drum. Try that, or ask a strong friend. You got this, Erin! ~Dee

Very nice video DeeAnn and cleaner than the best repair person would do, but how did you not scratch the heck out of your fiberglass tub? The Fisher & Packel wash drum's drain holes in the stainless steel are as sharp as the tip of knives 🔪 on the outside. They will cut or scratch just about anything they come in contact with. Don't ask how I know🩸. You didn't mention that wash drum holds a lot of water in the base that doesn't come out even when you lift it out of the machine, that's partially what makes it so heavy and awkward getting it out.
@Stephan T , thank you! Honestly, I had no problem with drain holes, no scratches at all - I just made sure, as I lifted the wash drum out, that they didn't touch anything - including my skin. :-) I'm on the short side - about 5'4" - and I was able to lift this out by myself with one good HEAVE-HO.... if you're shorter, you might need a sturdy step stool or a friend to help. Others have commented about water in the wash tub, but mine didn't seem to have that problem. There was a LITTLE water in the bottom - maybe a few cups of water total? - and I soaked it up with a few paper towels, easy peasy. If there is a LOT of water left in the wash drum or the fiberglass tub, perhaps you have draining issue? Just a thought. I got mine apart with the exception of the drum I can't get it to come out. Is there something else I should disassemble before pulling it out? That is the part of the video that you had paused at.
@Scheryl B, good question! Nothing additional to disassemble - I had to pause the video only to adjust the tripod/camera out of the way so I could set up a step-stool. I'm 5'4", and I needed height to get the leverage I needed to lift the drum - and use your muscles! Don't be timid, engage your core, brace your feet, and LIFT. 🙂 Heave ho! If you have a strong friend, two people should be able to do it. Best wishes, and keep posted, will you?

Yes, I bought mine here in the US back in 2003.... in checking fisherpaykel.com today, I'm not sure if they're still selling washing machines??? Oh, dear, this makes me sad. 😞 I'm looking to purchase a new dryer, not sure I'll be able to. I'll update here as I learn more. ~Dee 7/9/2024
Hello thanks for the videos, I have the same machine and my clothes have a bad smell I Can only smell it on some of my clothes at it seems to be on the end of the clothes if that makes sense more on the collars, I cleaned out the machine like you did but I'm still having this problem its driving me crazy, I've also used vinegar and bicarb but still same problem...its strange because the smell is only on a small area of the clothes not all, anyway if anyone has any ideas or the same problem please let me know...thanks

Yes, I love the 1000+ rpm.... when the cycle is done, my clothing comes out "damp dry." I can dry a load of heavy towels in about 30 mins. I love it! :-)

My husband purchased a refurbished FP washing machine recently. I'll admit, I was not impressed when I first saw it because it seemed so different than anything I've known with Samsung and GE washers I've had in the past. What's more, I don't think the thing had ever been cleaned... probably why it was replaced! 🤢
This video was extremely helpful! Wish it had been my scrud to clean, but it came clean nonetheless! I ran one cycle of hot water, highest level, with white vinegar. There was a small amount of scrud in the drum after the spin cycle. When I had the drum in the bath tub, it sounded like there was water in the top "ring" (not sure what you would call it? Rim, maybe?) There was no obvious way to access it, though. I'm thinking there may be scrud in there.
What are your thoughts? Run another cycle before adding clothing? Or maybe run a load of towels?
@Stephanie Mahan, just seeing your msg today, 5/7/2021. :-) If the top "ring" is what I'm thinking it is, you should be able to remove it - if memory serves, I address this in the video. There are small clips around the perimeter of the "ring," loosen those and it will lift off easily. Another hot water cycle with vinegar certainly can't hurt. Hey, keep me posted on how things go? Hey, those rings at the top (and bottom) are intentionally filled with water to stabilise the machine during high-speed spin. Do not drain them as it will probably cause a lot of out-of-balance errors.

Yes just one thing is that you need to be careful when scrubbing that drum on the outside because it is just like a cheese grater and one has to take care not to rub your knuckles or hands-on that particular surface.
@John Goard, yes, Sir, you are correct! :-) I used a hand-held, stiff bristled brush to do the scrubbing. Indeed, safety first. :-)

They are great machines it’s a pity there not made in NZ anymore. there toploaders are made in Thailand now and front loaders dishwashers and probably other things made in China by Haier

This washer came with the house bought the house and I hated it, but now I think I didn't like it because it was soooo dirty! Once I get it clean I think I will love it forever! Thank you for saving me so much $$$

@@fernandoninjaskill I ended up sucking it up with shop vac- I don't think there is any way to drain it. Just remember to take your filter out of your shop vac :)

@@deeannmartin924 so much better! I think I also did the same as you, soaked up the scruddy water with a sponge and then repeatedly drained and sponged until it was gone. One thing I learnt was to be a bit more careful in the bath when scrubbing...I ended up scratching the bottom of my bath as I flipped the drum horizontally to scrub. Lesson learnt!

Besides cleaning the drum is there a lint filter somewhere? Thank you. Mine is about as old as yours. Can hardly wait to clean it as I have blown three pump motors, probably cause it is so scruddy and linty.

@Brett Wilkinson Thank you! So glad you liked my video... yes, if I remember correctly, all the holes are open, and yes, they're for draining water out during the spin cycles. I agree, some of them run diagonally, and you may not be able to see through them directly. Interestingly, I recently did a video taking apart my dryer - needs a bit of editing - will post soon! :-)

Mine is also almost impossible to remove. Gonna have to wait for hubby’s muscles to do this one. I did replace all four of the stabilizer rods so I get credit for those. ❤️

@@deeannmartin924 Good. Was able to to finally get it off. Was shocked at the buildup of junk in the very bottom of the washer. The part you can’t normally get to. All clean now, our laundry smells as clean as they did when we first got the washer. I do the vinegar wash every week now. Thanks again for the great video.
