      I definitely get excited when I see he has a new video. He’s so relatable and honest and knowledgeable. He does all the hard work for us!! I laugh when he says he is retired. Just like my grandfather “retired” but could seem to stop working. 😅

    Another great video! I was told 2 years ago, by a doctor, to look into Dr. Bikman and follow his advice to lose weight, and help me with insulin resistance. I watched some of his stuff, but knew I needed to be plant based instead, I had gone plant based before. My son, then was on Dr. Bikman's son's baseball team, and I couldn't put my finger on where I knew him from. I finally told him that I watched his stuff on RUclips, he asked if I had done it. I said no, I went plant based instead! Today marks 2 years of plant based, and I have lost 70 pounds, and feel better than ever! Thank you for helping so many of us!

    Edit: @22:15 - it's crazy to me that a scientist wouldn't point out that relative risk is a 'in the moment' explanation of risk while absolute risk is a 'over time' explanation of risk. The idea is that absolute risk delta increases as time under treatment extends (1, 5, 10, 30 years... the absolute risk reduction continues to increase). It's irresponsible to make fun of the data here and not point out that *incredibly* sobering information.

      It makes absolutely no sense to me that he appears to not understand this. Using the numbers from the paper he himself cited, a 54 percent relative risk reduction is greater than most any other lifestyle intervention. Basically halving the amount of incidences. I understand the concern about the side-effects of drugs, and combining healthy lifestyle choices should always be attempted first, but his nonchalant arrogance made me cringe.

    I almost feel stressed out by this video, not in a bad way. It's just that I often imagine how things are made. Just the references in this video alone -- finding, poring over, checking, collating, explaining all of them -- it must've taken a lot of research, work, and time. And imagining taking on this task makes me feel second-hand stress, especially since the polished final product never shows everything that went into it. The fact that there are scientists who are willing to do this work and create this content is awesome. This is one of the good corners of the internet :)

      I felt stress too. Reading so many statements of unkindness to Chris, and listening to the dismissal of nutritional fundamentals on stage is difficult to watch.

      He is right, if not a financially independent, naturally curious, and retired with time, then who? He has found a calling to serve the truth and he will be rewarded for his intentional living. Most retirees waste away.

    Thank you for your videos! I adopted a plant based diet when I became a seventh day Adventist 6 years ago. My crohns disease has now been remission for several years and no longer on medication after basically a lifetime of suffering.

      I was just diagnosed with colitis. I went from being nearly vegetarian to even more nearly vegetarian. Everytime, that I eat meat, I have digestive issues. I'm eating it less and less. I think eating whole plant foods is the best treatment for colitis. No medication have been prescribed.

      @highcarbbeth5993 awe sorry to hear that, i hear colitis is rough too! One resource that really helped heal my gut microbiome was Dr. Jacobi the SIBO doctor website. She has a specific elimination diet protocol and there is a plant based version), which helps to heal the gut. It helped me to finally be able to digest beans and legumes.

    As the son of a research professor, it is heartening to view your great presentations, Chris. I saw growing up that it's not easy to make a career in research, and I am grateful that you are showing what diligent, competent science can achieve to give us guidance. Good science can assist us in finding out what to eat to promote good, long-term health and well-being. You are doing millions a true public service! I really admire how you truly manage to keep an even keel in the midst of ad hominem attacks and many types of bushwa. Bravo!

    I'm so glad I found your channel! This is just astonishing the gaslighting these doctors are providing! I was planted-based well before this due to trying to reduce/control some of my ADHD/ASD symptoms, but knowing that there are people like yourself and Dr. Nagra who know the ins and outs of these studies is just priceless! Since then I've realized that not only did it help with my symptoms, but greatly improved my health. Then I realized it wasn't just for my health, but the well-being of trillions of animals consumed yearly on top of being healthy for the environment as a whole! Keep up the great work and look forward to any and all the videos you post! =)

      Definitely would prefer a vegan diet for taste and health. But not participating in the violence of animal farming the way it is done on the massive scale, is a huge win!!! It is tragic how animals are treated. I’m glad not to contribute to that.

    Dr. Bikman says "humans cannot live a purely plant-based diet; it is impossible." I've been vegan since 1988. I'm still here. Being impossible. Or not human. And I'm not even the oldest or longest standing vegan I know. So . . . that's embarrassing. How does he square longtime vegans with his claims of impossibility?

      Yeah, it's statements like those that immediately make me distrust a person. If somebody says "hard" or "unlikely" or whatever, at least there's plausible deniability. But with "impossible", all it takes is one single counter example. So every single long term vegan is faking it I suppose... come on now.

    Amazing. Total destruction of the misinformation crew. I don't think they can really come back from this. It becomes apparent that they are resting upon their taste buds and not on science.

      These people have been 'destroyed' before but the facts mean nothing to either them or to their most ardent followers - they cleave to a 'higher truth' which is above mere facts. They believe in what should be true and therefore must be true. Some of them seem to be in it for the money, admittedly,, although didn't Upton Sinclair observe “it is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” Others though, perhaps most of them, seem to be sincere. Deluded of course but, sincere. The Dunning Kruger Effect in full flight one suspects.

      @@tomgoff7887 Yes. I've seen interviews where they go through their blood work and it is beyond terrible and one by one they'll explain why each ridiculously and dangerously elevate level is not a problem...because "blah blah blah".
      It's insanity. Next they'll be saying "Well my leg was cut off but that's not a problem because I'll grow one back over the summer when I'm less active."
      Many have no real connection to facts. Huge epidemiological studies show that plant based diets are healthier and limiting animal products is healthier. So they try to explain how all epidemiological studies are flawed....unless one shows what they want it to show then they never mention that it's an epidemiological study. If you have to discredit an entire field of science to show your diet is fine...and ignore basic medical facts (like animal protein and saturated fat increasing insulin resistance) then there's something seriously wrong with your diet advice.

    It's so disheartening to see people so blatantly spread such misinformation. Using ad-hominems, falsifying claims, bad maths and statistics. Thank you for doing these!
    During my physics degree, we had a course in ethics in science, and one of the things we did was to analyse some articles (picked by the lecturer) to see if we could discover some fiddled data or stats. It was an eye-opener to see how easy it was to gloss over such things, but also how easy it was to disprove them with a simple check or calculation of your own. Unfortunately, people like Dr. Diamond speak to audiences who don't have the ability to check his claims or stories. And that someone with a science background would completely misinform their audience and trivialize incredibly high impact results and even how to interpret such results in general is just mind-boggling!

      Keep in mind that influencers like Dr Diamond start with a particular bias then use and twist any information they find to "prove" that bias. That is the opposite of a scientific approach and it's why their advice is so dangerous. And yes it is leading to disease, suffering and death.

    Gosh, how stressful for you to get so much unwarranted push back from other ‘scientists’ who are not as scrupulous as you about telling the truth. I have watched a lot of the talks you reference and have, in the past, been confused by the varying advice. I’m so pleased I found your channel. With how measured your responses are and how carefully you seem to choose your words, the way some of these people come after you personally is unacceptable and painful to watch.       @PlantChompers I know you focus on nutrition and healthspan, but you could try doing a video on exercise and healthspan. It would give you a break from these response videos at least. There's really no one who's going to disagree with you on the benefits of exercise, plus, you have a humble touch that's good at encouraging people to take up healthier behaviors. I'm sure you could convince some of your viewers to exercise more.

    Chris, I highly trust people who can literally/physically say, "I was wrong."
    Plenty of people don't have the balls to do so.
    I've met thousands of people who simply cannot utter the words, "I was wrong."
    It takes a very special person, with legit integrity and great character.
    In the midst of chaos and a world of insanity, its such a blessing to meet rare people with such character.

    Chris, what you are doing is very important, and potentially lifesaving. This applies to people learning this information and also reinforcing themselves with confidence over time (including to listen to their doctor over time on this topic ). Thank you. Some of the plant based luminaries also seem quick to think statins are not needed and others see the same facts you do. Dr. Kim Williams has a SAVE protocol that includes: statins, aspirin, vegan diet, and exercise. If you ever dive deeper into this I would love to learn more about his protocol and also learn if “ultra low LDL” for post health event/health high risk patients (high intensity statins plus no oil WFPB )can help optimize reversal beyond meeting the guidelines of low LDL with no oil WFPB. Also, your point about looking at neurology events and other events in addition to MI , and time frame, is great as well as showing the “full frame” of the person criticizing nutrition luminaries as well as the separate videos on age/life of luminaries by category are helpful. Thank you for the time and dedication you put into showing things clearly.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Thank you for clarifying all of your points and helping us understand why we hear so many conflicting things from experts or at least expert-sounding people. Don’t waste your time worrying about people who don’t even properly hear your words or watch your videos. Their criticism is not even well thought out most of the time. Much like Dr Peterson, his critics also can’t seem to really hear him, completely their loss. It just is terrible that these people, spreading misinformation, have the influence that they do. Because they are or could be doing real harm. Speaking of Dr Peterson, his diet is the opposite of what the science says is ok, but he claims to be healthier than ever, even reversing disease on nothing but meat. I know you briefly covered the carnivore/lion diet with that 40-day water fast video, but I still wonder what the long term effects will be. I’m hopefully
    Playing it safe with veganism for me and my toddler. I love vegetables.

    Phenomenal video as always Chris!The way I look at it: sophists are gonna sophist and quacks are gonna quack. Majority who are bad faith actors have no interest in changing their stance because they are grifters and rely on their position and following to make money, or they are so led astray and they're scientific epistemology is so backwards there's no communication with them. So many rely on doging hard questions, failing to acknowledge contradictions, and rely on emotional arguments that facts simply do not sway them.
    You do an amazing job of making entertaining and digestible videos that any person can understand and arguably do the best at pointing out the holes in these quacks arguments and filling in the missing context with truth. Keep it up!

    Dr. Bikman says people "can't thrive on a vegan diet?" Bahahaha! That is such an extreme statement. Elephants, cows, and gorillas do it easily! My husband and I have been doing it for 28 years. I know other Adventists who have been vegan all their lives. What all health influencers need to explain - and some of them even to understand themselves - is that any diet - carnivore, vegan, paleo, etc. - can have things in it that aren't great. A vegan can eat vegan cookies, potato chips, and soda and no animal food, but it doesn't make the diet healthy! Same with other diets. What is needed is an off-loading of the garbage foods, and THAT is no easy sell or task in our country that is full of temptation everywhere you turn.
    I can tell you that changes in diet can have a huge effect. My husband's triglycerides were quite high, but mine weren't. I prepared all of the whole plant food meals that I saw him eat, so I was confused. He never took a packed lunch with him and I was under the assumption that he only ate 2 meals a day and, well, no wonder I was overweight and he was much less. Come to find out, he had a secret snack chamber in his work truck! He was snacking on potato chips daily! I told him what I knew about the inflammatory properties and fats in snack foods, as well as eating in between meals, and that he should cut those out immediately. His next blood work was 6 months later and to his credit, he did cut all of those out of his life....and his triglycerides dropped over 200 points!

      Vegan since 1990 veggies since 1986, and now in my seventies.
      Ran on mountain trails at altitude of 7200 feet in the forest today on my weekly one hour run there. Run only once per week.
      Squatted 315 for three reps, bottom up partials but with a Olympic bar and free weights saturday.
      Leg presses my typical weight is 600 for max.
      Resting heart rate always in the fifties and my BP typically 115/60 or so.
      And I continually hear this nonsense veganism cannot be done long term.

    What it bothers me the most about the speech of dr. Diamond is that he is taunting and making fun of scientist when he apparently does not understand the basics. I hate the attitude of thinking that he is so smart and everyone else is apparently so stupid.

    There is a huge difference in attitude when critiqued between PlantChompers and the high fat crew. Kudos to PlantChompers for being humble and for yet another well researched and well presented video!!
    Honestly every video is a treat. And I have zero stakes in this game, not being particularly dedicated to eating 100% plant based. I just want to know what the science actually indicates regarding food and its impact on longevity (and the planet, which is NEVER addressed by the high priests of high fat/meat).

    100 percent vegan WFPB diet from 21 to 43, life intervened and I deviated into some fish and minimal cheese in my 40s and up to 57 .. got moderately obese and pre- diabetic, back on the wagon past 7 years.
    I deeply regret those fat years when my core diet was still WFPB..
    At 63 I THRIVE on vegan WFPB with heathy weight with LDL and triglycerides in the low 70s...
    Younger people around me are obese and sick on "balanced" diets..
    I now call myself nutritarian which would technically allow fish for omega 3,, but my vegan moral and environmental inclinations will quite likely prevent me ever indulging in fish ( caught by me) again...
    I will find out once I relocate to coastal France...

    Thank you again for another in depth video exposing misinformation. Many humans having a
    distinct point-of-view have confirmation bias and are willing to decide that certain information
    proves their point. It is amazing how, when confrunted with belief systems that contradict ours,
    some humans act out of fear. I am grateful for the time and effport you put into your fact-checking
    and making these many videos. As an alive, thriving whole food ethical vegan of 25+ years, I applaud
    you. I also admit that I would not have believed that humans could live on flesh and blood and animal
    products only (knowing how important fiber, quercetin, Vitamin C, Minerals and other nutrients are),
    yet some "carnivores" do, with a smile. I however, am not afraid of eating plants, and love animal lives.

    Dr. Diamond's objection to the heart disease risk study maps remarkably well to the people campaigning against COVID prevention. Ignore any harm less than death, disdain risk ratios by setting the standard for concern at 5% population decline per year, and minimize the value of lives saved.

    I have eaten a whole food plant based diet for 6 years, I am 41 years young and I feel better now than I have ever felt, cutting out animal products has changed my life in every conceivable way,my grandfather who is 83 has came off of all his “life long” medications because he eats a whole food plant based diet,his health was in decline until he stopped eating animals and animals products,the argument that we “need” meat falls apart when people live long healthy lives without eating animals.it’s so easy to see when your eyes minds and hearts are open,the carnivore diet is widely misunderstood and very misleading to those who have not experienced life without meat

    It is true that ASCVD lifetime risk increases with age, but the authors of a drug trial paper should only make concrete or absolute inferences or statements pertaining to the observed benefit of the treatment based on the duration of the trial and the specific conditions the trial participants were under. Extrapolating benefit(s) beyond the trial is risky and perhaps irresponsible for something like statins, which are being prescribed for many years, because it is impossible to detect downstream side-effects or harms that may take many years to manifest (cancer and dementia have long latency periods, for example). As Ron Krauss said in his interview with Peter Attia, "...we are conducting an experiment in the global population - certainly in the U.S. - that has never been done before, and that is prescribing statins to millions of people as a lifelong treatment without knowing what the downstream effects are beyond the clinical trial data that we have (which is limited); and we can call in genetics but it doesn't necessarily mimic the effects of using a statin drug...".

      That is a valid point on statin study.
      However it is considered to be a drug prescribed for a immediate and present health threat to the american public at large.
      So is the lack of long term study to this end a cause for withdrawal of prescription...not at all.
      They however have probably been widely overprescribed on the basis of thought preventative cause, not remedy of proven existing disease state.
      So yes your point taken...they should not be prescribed for such cause., only when disease is found to be present. Some docs were giving them out with simple cause being older than forty and male.
      They have risks some of which we can theorize and not really found in study as it simply has not been studied to that extend.
      But I think the ten years or so over prescribing is often not happening so much presently.
      On a personal note I know one person who was active in the health community and so advocated for statins and he was on them for decades. Till in his 80's he developed side effects, and later other heart problems which may or may not be related to statins. But he did have atherosclerosis. His advocation for all others to take them was probably unwise. His use probably recommended, he may have died without them by age 80.

And also perhaps the point about the power of community belief systems applies. Or ... maybe Dr. Diamond is just incredibly disingenuous. :) He certainly does a lot of shucking and jiving to dodge the clear facts.

    Ben Bikman pronounces the "h" in "vehemently?" Thank you for your hard work in debunking the nutritional propaganda out there. Heck, if I were religious, I would vote for your sainthood! It's so true. What you believe seems to depend more and more on what "community" you belong to. "Belonging" feels so much better than the hard work of understanding, especially if that leads to the conclusion that you should eat less meat and fats.

    I'm not a scientist but I am an insurance pricing actuary, so I'm qualified to comment on the statistics, and to see Diamond laugh on stage at 21:30(ish) while he misrepresents the concept of absolute risk and base rate, and to see the gullible audience laugh along with him, shocked and sickened me.
    To know there are characters out there with platforms this big who (I presume knowingly, because I gather from the clips presented here alone, that he's not a stupid guy) tell bare faced lies about how risks work, at a fundamental level, is scary in the extreme.

    Re: Mormons… There’s a YT video called “Return to Sparingly” which shows the teachings of several early prophets about not eating animals, that they experience pain and pleasure and have souls. It was a common lesson. The lessons halted during the 1950s when the mainstream LDS Church acquired much land and began cattle ranching. They became the largest, privately-owned for-profit cattle ranchers in the United States. And during the year 1997 (or maybe ‘96) they were the largest in the world. It makes sense why they no longer teach to not eat animals when they are in the profitable business of eating animals and skinning them.

    I guess I’m one of those people who are trying to open minded and always being lost in this topic. I want to thank plant chompers for laying out so much information to actually give the whole picture and make my own informed conclusion. There is so much evidence that plants are important full stop. Plant chompers you are influencing me to be more skeptical and educated on people and what information they present and also choose a mostly plant based diet if I want to live a long life. I know no diet is 100% but I’ll take the one with the least amount risk of dying thank you 🙏

Interesting video as always, sadly reading David Diamond's response it is clear he isn't interested in moderating his opinions in response to evidence they're wrong. The clip of him misrepresenting the 2 year relative risk as your absolute risk of a heart attack your Doctor should tell you was painful to watch. Assuming he is competent that was deliberate misinformation.

But for the people who quit being vegan still eat plenty of vegetables and fruit so the do still eat a plant foward diet. My grandmother even though she was not vegan she still ate a plant foward diet and lived to be 103 years old.

      The majority of people who quit a vegan diet, do so due to social pressures, it becomes inconvenient and hard to fit in with their personal lives.. afterall meat consumption is the norm. But that has no bearing on whether a vegan diet can be healthy or not. Plenty of science on vegan diets now, and it's clear that it a well planned vegan diet can be healthy for all stages of human life. There is even more evidence for the efficacy and health benefits for diets which make up the vast majority of the diet, such as the meditteranean diet. I think its pretty safe to say whole plant foods are incredibly healthy, so its not a stretch of the imagination to say that a diet solely comprised of a variety of whole plant foods would he incredibly healthy.
      I have been vegan 6 years myself, I exercise, sleep well, and have no mental health problems. I feel great, and if I wasn't getting proper nutrition symptoms of deficiency would have developed years ago.

      @@vince7349Why do people like you keep presenting misinformation as fact and strawmanning. Nobody actually said eating meat and eggs will give you a heart attack. The study highlighted that it increases the risk. People are free to then make an informed decision rather than delude themselves.
      And I assume that you cannot cite a study that shows that 80% quit a vegan diet within 5 years for health reasons. In my experience most quit due to family relationships and social pressures and I would be surprised if it was anywhere near 80%.

    Um....I get, according to cronometer, 105 grams of protein per day in my 80% calories (or more) from whole plant food diet. Based on my calorie consumption that is well above the 10% needed to thrive. My protein intake comes in at 16% of my calories and at my body weight, I am getting in just under 1.6 gram per kg body weight. Take out the protein powder that I use for my weight training and I am still over the needed amount with an intake of 1.1 grams per kg body weight which is near the middle of the recommendation of 0.8g / kg to 1.1g / kg per day.
    Not even trying to build my plant foods around protein either. Just eating a large variety of fruit, veg, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes. The bowl of leafy greens and cruciferous veg that I eat daily is over 30% calories from protein.

      His mind his conceptions dictate his reality. He finds things a certain way to his interpretation of science, his science must be correct, it is science after all, so his reality must reflect it.
      It does not of course, but to find it does not......... infer to him reality is not real so it is most abjectly rejected. He rejects the real of things for his conceptual reality.
      Political people most notably trend this way. G after world war two Arnold tells how austria was filled with totally broken men who had been lied to about things and refused to accept it. So they resorted to anti social behaviors, but the thing was they could not accept the real of things so it produced a psychotic break. Their minds were not wrong reality was wrong so anti social behavior was the solution.
      So such peoples can never ever accept what their conceptual mind tells them is real is not. No sudden realization here so no psychotic break or any of that, but the threat is always present. So the real must never interfere with the conceptual.

    This is clearly a humble guy. He understands that the 55% carbs or so, that's in the food guide, is not the real problem, but rather, the choices people make within those carbs.
    @ 1:07: I don't have time to read Nina's misinformation, either. I could probably spend hours highlighting it all in The Big Fat Surprise, based on what I had found in the first two minutes of reading her page. Here's one example: "Yet for the majority of Americans who are overweight, pre-diabetic or diabetic, the most rigorous science strongly supports a diet restricted in carbohydrates and high in fat as the and best tool for combating these diseases." She's appears to be a carb-insulin model pusher. The idea has been debunked. That is to say, the idea that people have blood sugar levels mainly because they eat too many carbs, is wrong. Not all carbs are created equal. Does she have a good grasp of insulin resistance and how excessive visceral fat keeps your insulin from getting to your cells no matter what you eat? In some cases, we are treating the symptom, not the real problem. Your liver can make glucose from many things, not just the carbs you eat. Insulin resistance can be made worse if you replace carbs with saturated fats (and sure enough, two paragraphs below, she suggests doing exactly that). Did she talk about how the blood sugar and insulin spike can be blunted by not eating naked carbs? My endocrinologist had. I had seen my A1C drop from 6.0 to 5.3 after I had lost about ten pounds, maybe fifteen, leaving my diet the same. According to many, that should have been impossible without having limited carbs. I think her book is mainly aimed at sedentary people who have poor diets. People who get a lot of exercise and make healthy food choices probably don't need to read it. You don't have to limit carbs to lose weight. Just to avoid overeating and to exercise to burn off what you don't need. She also says to avoid snacking: not appropriate for an athlete. I get bigger blood sugar spikes and more tired spells when I eat "large, satisfying meals".
    @ 3:14: I don't think avoiding carbs alone was responsible for Mr. Diamond's weight loss. It was general caloric restriction.
    @ 3:34: Is that Ken Berry on the left? Anybody pushing a carnivore diet has to be a quack. I also have a dim view of anybody associates with him.
