Watch our weekly episodes to see what we're doing, the advice that Dr. Grant Woods (Ph.D Wildlife Biologist) has to share along the way. #TeamOutdoors #DeerHunting
    If you haven't watched many of our hunting and land management videos, here are a few reviews from our viewers:
    Donnie: Best teaching channel on RUclips!! It's like a class and lab all in one.
    Mike: The videography adds complexity and probably makes the hunts a bit less enjoyable for you, but we genuinely appreciate the work you folks do to help educate us. I’ve been an avid hunter for over 50 years, yet I’ve never met another avid hunter who couldn’t teach me something. Thank You all.
    Drew: Awesome to follow the stories that go along with the Growing deer channel. Ive been watching so long i feel like I'm part of the growing deer family! Love it

    Dr Woods, you are my nominee for the ultimate environmentalist! What you do, and what you teach us to do will make a far bigger difference in improving environmental health than 10 thousand speeches by politicians and protests by so called “activists” .

    Love your approach and enjoy the channel! I have a similar 160ac hunting property in south central MO. Mix of small glades and hardwood stands. Most of the historical glade/savannah is choked by red cedar. I have been cutting small pockets of cedar for decades but barely puts a dent in the overall quality. I plan to restore about 50 acre portion with prescribed burn. What kind of resources can I access to help? Thanks!

      Steve - You should visit with the local NRCS or MDC office. NRCS may have some cost share funds for restoring glades!

    Plant and soil are one... i was thinking of No Till Planting one type of plant moving over an inch or so. Planting another type of seed that will help the first planting. Move over another row. No Till another type that will help the 2nd planting. And so on. Hopefully, in so doing this would help the plants feed each other. Do you think this may be possible???

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 года назад +1

      It's much easier to simply plant a blend of seeds.

    I was wondering if the Goliath Crimper can be towed by a quad. I’m trying to convince my father to try the buffalo system on a plot but he’s afraid we might not have the machine power to tow something like the Goliath

    Is it possible to grow a better deer herd and improve antler potential with only 100 acres? Cause land can be expensive.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 года назад

      There are many variables. The answer is yes if you planted gad of acres of food plots on the 100 acres in the middle of a bit forest. The answer is no if you have 100 acres of closed canopy timber and don't do anything improve it. Then there's a continuum between these two extremes. The biggest goal is to enjoy the hunt!

    Can the rtp crimpers be used to kill weeds instead of using herbicide

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 года назад

      Only if the weeds are all in the dough stages. Crimping is easy for crops because they mature about the same time!

    Do you treat those areas for invasive or undesirable plants?

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 года назад

      Andy - If we see Sericea, etc., we treat. However, unless the seed is already in the seed bank there's no issues.

    • @arttrumbo9496

      I've heard that they are good cover for deer in cold weather and snow because they don't drop their leaves. Also, as an anecdote, when I find a pocket of cedars surrounded by oaks or pines, I very often find a lot of rubs and trails going in and out of a small area.

      It's fully dependent on the region you live in as to whether or not they have a benefit. Up here in MN they have a huge benefit November through April.

      Art = Cedars may block some wind but don't allow much sun to the ground. It's cold laying in the shade during the winter! Native grass will allow the sun to reach the ground but stand enough to block the wind from a bedded deer. Deer do prefer to rub on aromatic tree species.
