- Russian forces have modified one of their main battle tanks with some less than cutting-edge protection by covering it with a sheet metal structure so it resembles a shed.
Dubbed the 'Turtle Tank', videos of the unconventionally adapted vehicle operating on the frontline have been widely circulating and widely ridiculed at the same time on social media.
One theory is that the modification offers extra protection to soldiers riding on the tank guarding against Ukrainian drone strikes.

The Turtle tank is still in action. A new video just dropped of it reaching the center of Krasnorivka and then withdrawing. Ukrainian drones and artillery were unable to stop it.
Ukraine destroyed the vehicles following it. The turtle tank ran over a tree as it was fleeing.

@@user-kq4hf8se5b "fleeing" that tank was not fleeing, it had finished its mission, clearing mines for the upcoming attack, and has sucessfully fallen back. Also there is no footage of the vehicle behind that tank getting destroyed

It makes sense despite looking very silly. If it can detonate a shaped charge early? Deflect a grenade? All this, but only against drones and not big guns...
Most modern missiles have precursor charges or fly over and shoot down into the turret. I don't believe this is at all effectual outside of dealing with drones and some small arms. Even the american NLAW is FOSD

Tanks are being used mainly as mobile artillery these days, not requiring lots of turret movement. On the other hand, standoff armouring has proven effective against shaped-charge warheads like those on the FPV drones.

Nessessity is the mother of invention. Allied tanks had all kinds of add ons during WW2. And if some of it works, it may be on new factory tanks. Who knows. But they are getting battle tested and so is their equipment. Changes are made where needed. Their hypersonic missiles are being tested and refined. The US is struggling just to get one that works.

Could be for drone but also HEAT shells. Drawback is, like you said, prevent mobility of the turret but also decrease the visibility.

actually i wonder if the drones are using some image recognition, you might be able to trick the drone into not targetting the vehicle if it does not match the pattern before. although i remember maybe the drones were heat seeking also, not sure if these boards could effect the heat signature also

As a seasoned CrossOut player, I must urgently recommend the Russians to add another layer of spaced armor made of plastic another 2 feet from the inner spaced armor.

There was cluster munitions and artillery coming down around it but it did indeed pull back. Russia lost 2 vehicles but that was not one of them

Turtle tank not only survived, is making regular battlefield appearance. And Russian Jamming tech is also burning Ukriainians drones despite whatever Azov N-A-Z-I's learned from whatever capture they made.

The turtle didnt get destroyed though? Russia lost 2 vehicles out of 6 during that little offensive but that wasnt one of them. Then the convoy moved in again and dropped more infantry off without sustaining any more losses the videos on YT for anyone to see. Report the truth and not propaganda

@@cow_mangler510 The electronic warfare device is the bigger problem for Ukraine. They used it another assault separate to the one shown and not a single FPV drone got through. The first one only stopped a handful before being destroyed. So whatever Russia did differently on the 2nd use of it worked. If this device becomes more mainstream Ukraine will need to work on countermeasures quickly

@@cow_mangler510 This is on LiveUAMap for the Russian push towards Chasiv Yar which is just west of Bakhmut. Ukraine's got it's paratroopers fighting up there and they are destroying a lot of Russian armour up that way.

Down in the south around Krasnohorivka is a lot more lightly defended though. Although at the same time there's nowhere near the same quantities of Russian armour down there
it's used to signify surrender.

People acting like this is a super weapon are beyond help. This is just plate steel welded to a tank to create distance from shaped charges, but it greatly reduces the mobility of the tank turret, essentially making it into a self-propelled gun

You don't need a cope cage if you have an APS, both Ukraine and russia have APSs, but Ukraine can't build them because it's very complicated, time consuming and expensive, but if your bumping up russia so much they should be able to make an APS right? In Ukraine, all tanks suck. And all current tank tactics suck. Think history. Only time tanks would be useful would be in a mass tank vs tank battle like Germans and Soviets had in WWII.
