Sand Dollar Sand Casting With Aluminum Bronze Metal Alloy- The Growing Stack

- I attempted to sand cast some sand dollars in petrobond sand using aluminum bronze. They are quite tricky as they are very brittle but I gave it a shot. I had some mishaps along the way, but I continued on to share my experience with trying to cast these. I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I did making and editing it.

Hey all you beautiful people! I hope you all are having a great week! I gave it a good ol college try at sand casting some sand dollars this time, and I wasn’t quite happy with the outcome, but I wanted to bring you all along for the ride anyhow. It was a long melting session in the 100+ degree Arizona heat and I made quite a few mistakes along the way, but I still wanted to share what I went through attempting to sand cast some sand dollars. In the end, it was a good time, and I hope you all enjoy the process and have a great rest of your week!!
Would investment casting work a little better for getting the finer details?
They didn't turn out bad, and the one with the "base" is a good idea!
@@walter2990 I think so. I need to get some of that equipment so I can start doing that. Thanks Walter!
Another great video. The sand dollars still have detail even if it is faint and still looked good.
Another great video from the one and only “GrowingStack!” You are a very clever man GrowingStack, you always make the best out of your mistakes. It takes a great man to admit his mistakes. With your bounty of sand dollars and sea shells, are you sure you have never been to my home state of Florida? Like the sand dollars, but I love this ingot! Excellent job my friend! If you are ever in the “sunshine state” look me up. Take care my friend.
Thank you brother! I’ve got so many mistake projects that I want to circle back to one of these days and try and get perfect. Someday…
Those are all from San Diego and Mexico, and if I ever do make it to Florida, I’ll hit you up for sure! 👍👍👍
Very nice pours. We all are self critical, but you did a nice job. Be proud of them.
Thank you Jim
Look at you thinking outside of the box! I just love this idea. I love anything to do with water and water creatures anyway. So this is the sort of thing that I am very interested in. This comes in a close 2nd behind the bears! ☺️ Yay!
Oh Tracy, I love your comments as always! I’m thinking about trying a seashell again soon, we’ll see how it goes. I love the bears too! 😃
They turned out beautifully!
Thank you Irish!!
Cool melt man! I think the turned out great! I laughed when you went to pour the bar the first time and the metal started freezing.
Thanks brother! Yeah, I totally thought I was liquid, but boy was I wrong! 👍
I think the sand dollars turned out pretty cool anyhow bro… and the detail on them are better in person I’m sure of it Broski…
Can't learn if you don't make a few mistakes along the way. Despite my mistakes and shortcomings thus far it still hasn't dampened my resolve to get further into melting and molding. Just taking me a bit longer than most since I have to get everything together at a snail's pace....lol.
If you packed it any tighter, you might have broken the sand dollars. You was being careful. Great job, they still look good.
Those spiky shells would be cool in aluminium bronze.
Nice work
I bought a drill press from Home Depot for $120. It’s a Ryobi. It works great for what you were doing with the hand drill. I feel like the hand drill on a constant run will burn it up eventually. Just trying to help. Love what you do! Another great video.
Thank you! I always appreciate good comments and where to find good tools. I mounted my bench grinder on a stand a few months ago but it isn’t heavy enough to keep it from walking around when I turn it on. I need to get off my butt and pour a concrete base for it and I’ll be back in business. 👍
Used to collect them with my mom at Cherry Point decades ago. They are so fragile. I'm glad they turned out as good as they did. If you take requests, please do the headpiece to the Staff of Ra.
That’s awesome Brandon, I’m with you, I thought it was going to be a disaster. I always welcome requests, whether I can do it or not is another story, but I always like to try. Headpiece of the Staff of Ra 🤔🧐👍
Interesting
Nice Work!!👍
Thanks Charity!!!
Can you sand cast the Cartoon Network logo in your next video. I would love to watch that. Please! 😁😁😁
Sand + Dollar = Sand Dollar
I'm surprised they didn't break in the molds. At least you got something out of it, so it wasn't a total fail.
Me too! Thank you my friend!
nice try bro :) they came out pretty good :) I do like the stand though lol :)
Thank you my friend!
I thought the larger sand dollar copy had very good detail. 👍😎👍😎👍😎👍
Thank you Norma Jean!!!!
cool video, one question though, do you just buy mason jars full of random metal scrap from random people, or is it like unused metal from other projects or what?
I save everything from previous melts and then use it when I feel the need to. I have 71 videos thus far, check them out and let me know what you think 👍
are there different grades of petrobond??? isnt that what you use for casting?? is there another type of casting material that would help pick up finer details? no worries we all learn from mistakes and that 100+ weather is a bitch.. here in Texas we get those temps and then add in all the humidity and we frying LOL edited to add be safe in those temps my friend.. stay hydrated!!!
I would like to buy that clock with the open broken look to it!! Would you be interested in selling it?
Cant learn if you dont make mistakes. And its not like you cant UAE the mistakes to better your craft.
Maybe a 3d print with a more pronounced image would let you make a perfect cast? Regardless still a fun video
i have that granite counter top 🙂
🙂 It’s a good one! 👍
make wind chimes our of them
That is a brilliant idea. I like that! 👍
@@TheGrowingStack done my first ali smelt 2 weeks ago but planning more
I'm sorry those don't look like anything. U made a blob nice. Pro tip dramatize your molds making everything a little deeper a little wider and then you'll be able to tell the little tiny details
you have to make mistakes in order to learn nice job even so
👍👍👍
Точно так же стянутся ваши задницы, когда вздумаете придти на нашу землю с войной 🤣. Z
