    wow things have changed a lot with werner. when i first started with a trainer we were only aloud to drive like 5-6 hrs a day for the first week, then up to a couple more the next week. we weren't aloud to drive as far as you did. glad you had a nice trainer, cause the one i had was bad, real bad, did all i could do to switch and it never happen. needless to say i only last about a mth with werner. trainer would yell and scream at me cause i would miss a gear, or grind them. the list goes on and on. i later found out from a friend i met that he was no longer training anymore. i miss driving a lot, would go back if the right job came along. glad i found your channel, good luck to you hope all the best for you

    Werner had good trainers back in the day. All sounds familiar. We always got liver and onions once or twice a week. Took vitamins..walked around with the little dogs. There were lots of good meals at the truck stops. There was a huge amazing buffet at Pilot. Back in the day.

    How long were you on the trainers truck? Im going on 3 weeks and from day 2 its been more of a team driving situation than him actually training me. I driving 11 hours while he sleep in the back. Then when im seeping he's driving also he got me driving the night shift till the sun comes up.. I dont usually have a victim mentality but Its hard not to think I'm getting a bad deal here. Anyways you guys make a awesome team love the content keep up the good work!

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  3 года назад

      Hey Jay Sea! Thanks for watching. Are you with Werner? Because that doesn’t follow pattern Kevin experienced. Kevin was out with his trainer for 3 weeks. First five days only Kevin drove and not at night. The next week they also did team driving, but Kevin did not drive after 11pm at night. Kevin drove about 10 hours a day and trainer 5-10 hours but still kept a good eye on Kevin. The trainer is compensated for training by getting paid for your miles. You get a flat rate. You can ask to get different trainer or just finish it and get experience and then your own truck. If you think you’re not learning anything from your trainer talk to your recruiter or HR if your company. Good luck!!

    how many weeks did you spend with a trainer. How does trainer selection work?

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  3 года назад +4

      Hi! Three weeks with the leader. As far as we know, trainer selection has only two criteria. Smoking/Non-smoking and what type of specialty you choose, like dedicated, reefer, OTR, flatbed, etc. And, remember, if you have serious issues with your trainer, you can ask for a different one!!

      It’s an industry wide conundrum. Don’t know why the whole industry pretends truck drivers don’t have basic human functions. Would be so easy to build something in trucks, like a Nature’s Head or similar. Like they put in van build outs. But no such luck. And Werner has a policy that you are ‘not allowed to carry bodily fluids on truck’.
