I've driven thru NYC on 95 and around it on 278 and once the back way on 278 to 495 to 295 and 695 to 95 all with Prime but will never exit the hwy and go into any part of the city or the surrounding area. Too much four wheel traffic and other stresses and unknowns to be worth it. I've seen videos that seem like it's not that bad but those guys knew where they were going. A passenger in the truck is always a plus. Can get me a snack and a drink but more importantly can use the phone to help navigate me to the customer.

    • @thetexastrucker7934

And actually that load to Coors was way easy. Coors was right there off the hwy. Exit 27 turn left 1/4 mile and park. And fyi you can keep going past exit 27 bc all 13-6 vehicles actually fit under that 12-9 overpass easily. That's why all those trucks kept going straight.

Bruno Truck Sales. I grew up in northern NJ just outside of NYC. I started my trucking career in the northern NJ/ NYC area. Been on the BQE countless times. I'm getting a little weepy and nostalgic watching this. I'm the 62 year old new fan who's been watching. I've been living in Amishland middle of PA since 1997.

As a native New Yorker, ignore many of the clearance signs. You were on the BQE which is an interstate that allows truck up to 13'6 that's why the trucks didn't exit. Many of the clearance signs haven't been updated since the 70s.
You did well and you've officially graduated New York driving school when you learned you got to cut people off in New York. Otherwise you would have been stuck in that lane forever LOL!

I had a friend that use to drive sealed freight to & from JFK Airport to Newark Airport through the city. About 35 miles one way. They just dropped and hooked at each airport, and they were supposed to do 3 round trips a day in 8-9 hours. He said that no one ever got the 3 loads in a day. Some days 2 loads would take him almost 11 hours. New York City traffic SUCKS

I am lucky enough to have never gone to Long Island in a truck before. I probably would've refused it. Staten Island and the Bronx were tolerable, but they definitely tried my patience. Whenever Werner sent me to the Northeast, the farthest west I would go is to the Girard, OH drop yard and then they'd send me back to New Jersey or New England, usually over the course of several weeks until I called my driver manager up and told him/her enough is enough. At least with California runs, I was in and out. Typically I only went there on my return to and from home time.
One of the worst cities to go to that most people don't think about is Pittsburgh.
And Yuengling Hershey Porter is my favorite beer. Can't get any Yuengling out west though. Though lately, I've just been going cheap and having red Coors Lights.

I don't know why they still have that 12 ft 9 in sign on interstate 278.
It is an interstate, you can fit under the bridges, that is why those other trucks stayed on and did not get off exit 27.
You can run the Brooklyn Queens expressway interstate 278 all the way through and fit under those bridges for future reference.
Be safe and I hope you enjoyed your trip to NYC.

The reason we slide axles up in NYC is for the tight crazy corners in the Bronx .. but you still drive over the curbs anyway but easy for getting in and out of tight situations it sure helps. Once we are out I slide them back to where they were. I use kids sidewalk chalk or metal fabricator marking chalk to mark my holes so it makes it easier to put back where it was. Sometimes I slide them up for parking at tight truck stops as well. Mark the hole slide them up and then park easily, in the morning I simply slide it back to my marked hole. Eliminates the guess work or even rescaling

NYC's downside is too many aggressive drivers, can't trust certain road signs, and generally being tight and narrow. Not to mention if you get paid by the miles you are literally doing a whole lot of work for almost no money.
EDIT: Also, can't rely on GPS soplanning your route to the shipper/receiver the old fashion way is sometimes necessary. Last thing you want to do in NYC is to miss an exit or make a wrong turn.

Just try getting off the G.W. at 178th st.; then stopping for the light where two guys jump onto your running boards yelling "wash your windows", then quickly blind you by wiping dirty, soapy water onto your windows...THEN you notice a THIRD guy running to the back of your trailer, trying to open your doors! I’m not a trucker. But I’m always in awe how people with cars dart in front of the trucks , especially tractor trailers. Those drivers must think the tractor trailers can just stop on a dime.
And you called the porches “ stoops”. Are you sure you aren’t from Brooklyn? Lol.
As a child most of my relatives including my grandparents were originally from Brooklyn. And they would always say stoop instead of porch.

I love New York .. have family there and I’ve been to New York a some times .. I actually had the opportunity to go into 1 of the towers of the World Trade Center a few months before they were attacked.. but it’s funny you said that it looks like a movie .. that’s how I felt the first time .. I’ve been to Universal Studios and it reminds me of when you take the Backlots tours .. and the walls are fake and the building are fake .. that’s how New York City feels .. it’s so surreal.. I’m sure there’s a lot of beautiful places in the world but no place compares to New York City .. like you’re on another planet .. so beautiful ❤️

Thanks for showing all the things you can't see when you are concentrating on the road, traffic and signs. I delivered in Bklyn to a dock that was 100 ft up a ramp right off a main St. Told the foreman you can't get a 53 ft trailer in there and he showed me a photo off his desk of one in his dock. I said ok and had to go park in a Home Depot lot until after 5 o'clock when the factory on that street let out. We had to back in using up all the sidewalk on the other side of the street. Got to love NYC!!! New York measure heights from the top of the curb, not the street. That means 12 ft 9 is really 13 ft 9. Be safe and God bless...

      Definition of granola bar
      chiefly US
: a bar made of a mixture of oats and other ingredients (such as brown sugar, raisins, coconut, or nuts) that is eaten as a snack.
