You’re in my neck of the woods (NYC)... you got extremely lucky with this trip. Even at 2am there can be lots of traffic! The GWB was barren considering it normally is packed. The roads are a mess because they would have to tear up the existing roads and place new ones. If they just pave over them, they risk changing the already tight clearances. Some of these signs mess you up. In NY, yellow signs post about a foot less than what you actually have. So a yellow sign that says 13’2 really equates to 14”2. Not sure, GOAL. Better than can opening lol. White signs are legit. When taking curves, go about 10mph under the yellow signs (sign says 40mph, take it at 30mph). Your life> people’s rushing. I’d list the bridges you can take and whatnot, but there’s too many. NEVER TAKE A TUNNEL. You won’t clear. Good job on this though!
Saiga Legacy it’s measured from the curb to the bottom of the overpass. They do it to allow for heavy snow packing down. Never had an issue with that though. BQE has a sign near Cadman Plaza that says 12’2 and you can 100% make it. That’s the biggest lie I’ve seen regarding NYC trucking. Be careful and safe travels!
Also, for any of you interested, if you have to go to The Bronx or anywhere similar, sometimes it’s worth it to go to the Tappan Zee Bridge. It’s up about 20 mins or so from the GWB, but it’s beautiful and the tolls are significantly less and you beat the traffic (which can sometimes be 1 1/2 hours 🥵)
sitting at home, retired, never thought I'd miss it all - but your vids get the feel of the thing across so perfectly, brings it all back to me, but know what? I still don't miss it

Do more of these videos man. I'm not a trucker. But love watching your videos. This is an area in the Bronx is what New Yorkers, like myself, call Hunts Point. This area and the complex you're in is one of the central zones to trucks delivering food to supermarkets in the state of New York. The area is sketchy. But when you're on the complex, you're fine. Also, New York City is a great place to live. Despite the high tolls and the messy road, New York is expensive for a lot of people. But if my family and others with SOME money can make it happen, others can make it happen as well. Last, George Washington Bridge is owned by Port Authority of New Jersey and not New York (haha). Also, the Bronx is not on an island. And Bruckner Expressway is the ABSOLUTE worst highway in the state! You should take up a trip where you deliver to Long Island. I don't think they'd pay you much. But at least you'll have some experience seeing what New York looks like. And one day, after coronavirus pandemic, park your truck, hop on the train, and spend a day exploring New York City! Take in what this great (but expensive af) city has to offer. Grab some pictures, eat, and enjoy New York.

About your height limit on bridges. I’m not sure for other states, could be national but the bridges are a foot taller then the posted sign. So anything 12’9” and up, you’re good.
Hey buddy it's ok to be cautious but don't worry so much because you always handle it . It's not worth getting your anxiety worked up . YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
I live in New York city and it is hard to drive a full size semi there. I have a hard time navigating there. They are designed for day cabs and 48 foot trailers not a full size sleeper cab and a 53 foot truck
Why the heck would the toll be that outrageously expensive ?!?! I thought the Bay Area was bad with $6 to cross the Oakland bay bridge and I think $10 for the golden gate.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority is the corrupt entity that holds this city ransom for its money. They operate all of our trains here and oversee the running of all of our bridges and tunnels. They are the ones that dig out our eyes with those toll rates.
Good job Rasim! Bronx NY check : ). Don't stress out too much, if trucks go there you'll be fine, you went in at the right time. Looks sketchy going in but then you get there and there's a couple hundred trucks in there. Pay tolls, pay to cross the GW, pay to get into the customer, and probably pay to get it unloaded, ridiculous...
You hit the nail on the head as far as the corrupt nature of the tax and toll system. It’s a joke and to think what seems like the majority of the people want MORE taxes and MORE government intervention in our lives....
We don';t want MORE government, we just BETTER government and we also want a more appropriate tax system that shifts more of the tax burden onto the wealthy and less on the working class, and we want better appropriation of our tax dollars, we want less police harassment and we want reasonable (gun) laws. Nothing in there says "more government."
My Dispatcher would send me a load proposal and every time they said "Proposed next load (insert shithole city here), NY. and my reply was always literally "Fuck off, next load please"
We drove through New York to get to Westport Connecticut and crossed the G. Washington Bridge it was crazy busy and very expensive. TFS! How’s the work going on the Mercedes?
I drive an 18 International LT at least 3-4 per week in and out of NYC via GWB. I've gotten to the point where I just use two lanes when I need to. During rush hour it's survival of the fittest. You don't ask, you just take the space you need and fuck the 4 wheelers who get mad.
Can you make a video going over concealed carry laws for truckers? I have my CCW out of AZ and am starting a trucking job soon. I carry my gun with me everywhere, but I was under the impression that was a no no for truckers because some states like NY,NJ,CA, etc have unconstitutional laws and prevent citizens the God given right to self preservation...
Kent Livingston you have to prove that you move more than $10,000 3 times a month for your business and have no record in order to get your carry permit in NYC (or be LE)
DO NOT GET CAUGHT WITH ANY GUNS IN NY OR NJ, NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM AND NO MATTER WHAT CCW YOU POSSESS. You're welcome. And to answer your question to "Michael" D as to "what does money have to do with a carry permit?" the NYPD is who oversees the licensure of CCW applicants and unless you're a businessman or woman conducting high volume cash transactions, you cannot get a CCW in this city. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is and before you make any comments about us voting "Democrat" against our own best interests or our "freedom" or constitutional rights or whatnot, understand that NYC and the state of NY have had leaders of both parties and nothing has ever changed. We get taxed to death here and have more and more of our rights stripped away from us, no matter who is in charge. The republicans are no better than the Democrats. That's a fact.
I would advise you to ONLY drive into NYC at night, if you can help it. That's the only time you can expect to get some semblance of a break on the traffic, especially if you go through the Bronx. That Cross Bronx Expressway is a nightmare!
I feel ya, i run out onto the island quite a bit delivering buildings. The roads suck and i run a long wheelbase daycab on 56000 springride! Running oversized is soooo much fun. Start lining up at the gw for the usual 8pm bridge shutdown to get us all across to the throgsneck then wait in a line for that closure at 10ish. Then hit the LIE and roll. Fun when its dark as hell and your running at 98 to 100 feet long. Just gotta hope your escort drivers know their way around.
Its not that bad making impossible turns, backing blindside from the street by a busy bus station blocking traffic, making sure your in the middle lane at certain times so the corner of your trailer doesn't hit corners of bridges, people flicking you off etc....
Your radio looks similar to mine. If so there should be an option to change the color of the radio to something like dark red and it makes it much less distracting.
Low bridges in NY are 12 to 18 inches higher than posted unless they say actual height. I know this because I live there. 12’ 7" is usually ok. Usually. Man I hate driving in NY.
I think every load I took into NY city had a corresponding story because nothing is routine there. Actually I've made better time on some highways around there though than other cities and I think it's because so many New Yorkers use public transportation compared to other cities. You have to learn the peak times and try to avoid those. I would never go there with an 18 wheeler if I had load choice as a driver.
It's one thing to drive a truck in area's you are very familiar with but driving one and not knowing the area at all is nerve wreaking at least to me it would be. I do not like driving in area's that are brand new to me. People always say driving a truck is easy and maybe it is but it is all the other BS that makes it a nightmare!
Roads aren't fixed because tax dollars and toll fees are lining pockets!!

Gave up on it to be honest lol
OTRookie lol, it looked like a big job. But you’re really intelligent so you can do it! If you even want to mess with it lol.
would thermal vision help you at night? say, a screen that shows you what's 300-600 feet ahead. it can also work effectively during rain, snow, fog.
I drive an 18 International LT at least 3-4 per week in and out of NYC via GWB. I've gotten to the point where I just use two lanes when I need to. During rush hour it's survival of the fittest. You don't ask, you just take the space you need and fuck the 4 wheelers who get mad.
USMC 0311 that’s it brother! I’ve taken 3 lanes up on 6th ave turning onto 59th st near Central Park at 12:30pm before 🤷🏼♂️
Driving through New York City is no fun. Been on George Washington bridge upper level and been through the Bronx on highway.
how long do you think you should drive before attempting NYC?
You’ll never be prepared enough lol
@@otrookie you handle it well I avoid it as much as I can
I never, ever go to New York. Especially after going to Chicago so many times in the past, I can’t imagine me going to New York.
Chicago is actually fairly easy to drive in. The problems usually happen when you see the dock, if there is a dock lol!
Mike Brown Yeah it’s not too bad, it’s just the ignorant 4 wheelers.
you could’ve took the express lanes . in the express lanes, stay right for NYC. one over the bridge, everyone merges.
We get Hazzard pay to go into that God awful place. Everyone that refuses to go there helps us boost our rates.
Ell Jay I don’t mind boosting your pay. 😆
In my 15 years I went there once refused every other load there. It's not worth it.
Michael D what does money have to do with a carry permit? Lol
No idea really I been wanting to find more info myself as I don’t carry but I want to
DO NOT GET CAUGHT WITH ANY GUNS IN NY OR NJ, NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM AND NO MATTER WHAT CCW YOU POSSESS.
Thanks for these videos.
I’m in jersey city right now picking up to Orlando fl. I always try coming up I81 so I don’t have to go I95. I hate NYC. Been there, done that!
Right at the end, there was a big gap between those trucks. Probably because of the fire hydrant, would be my guess.
Wear a reflective vest or jacket when outside of your truck especially at night. You won't regret it.
So ....I wanna drive my 40ft RV to nyc n boondock a few days. Any tips. My Rv is 12.6 height. Weight: 33,000 and it’s 40ft
Tip #1: don’t
OTRookie not very helpful. I’m going regardless
what time of night was that ? hardly any traffic
I give you all the credit in the world taking loads in the New York
Hello Rasim! Too Bad you didn’t get to Cross the Bridge during Daylight Hours so you could see what your $ 80.00 (with Easy-Pass) is Paying for. 😬 👍
Went back next day Ken!
i learned years ago to not stop at red lights when driving threw there at night, slow down and roll threw if yu can.
lots of Canadian trucks Deliver there in the meat Market Bronx Lightspeed is out of Alberta Canada
Its not that bad making impossible turns, backing blindside from the street by a busy bus station blocking traffic, making sure your in the middle lane at certain times so the corner of your trailer doesn't hit corners of bridges, people flicking you off etc....
$100 to cross a bridge? In the U.K. my local suspension bridge is only £2.00 xD
That’s NYC. Thieving, corrupt tyrants.
Your radio looks similar to mine. If so there should be an option to change the color of the radio to something like dark red and it makes it much less distracting.
Looked like your speedo doesn't work.
What kind of camera and rig you us to put on your head?
Been a constant fight with sensor and speedo it’s fixed, just a GoPro hero 8 black
Low bridges in NY are 12 to 18 inches higher than posted unless they say actual height. I know this because I live there. 12’ 7" is usually ok. Usually. Man I hate driving in NY.
You actually chose to go there..you book your own loads..must of paid really good huh?
I think every load I took into NY city had a corresponding story because nothing is routine there. Actually I've made better time on some highways around there though than other cities and I think it's because so many New Yorkers use public transportation compared to other cities. You have to learn the peak times and try to avoid those. I would never go there with an 18 wheeler if I had load choice as a driver.
What kind of camera do you use?
Gopro
I still love NY even if its a mess right now .
So is Jersey not bad? I've never been there because I thought it was like New York.
Depends where but for most part it sucks
thank you for the "worth" nightmare video
It's one thing to drive a truck in area's you are very familiar with but driving one and not knowing the area at all is
nerve wreaking at least to me it would be. I do not like driving in area's that are brand new to me.
People always say driving a truck is easy and maybe it is but it is all the other BS that makes it a nightmare!
Odličan video!!
