- New Amsterdam Travel Video- Brown Cafes are comfortable, friendly neighborhood bars or pubs where locals hang out, chill & relax, either after work or on the weekends with friends. The cafes' dark brown interiors and dim lighting add to the gezelligheid (warmth, coziness, friendliness) and their old-time interiors have a homey, familiar feeling. In fact most of these cafes have been around for hundreds of years. The term "brown" is derived from their dark wood paneling and their wallpaper and curtains, which have turned brown from the lots of cigar and cigarette smoke which hung in the air before it was illegal to smoke in them. These cafes are also becoming popular with visitors, who are charmed by their old world ambiance. We joined up with David from International Locals Amsterdam and Phil from Lilly Likes Amsterdam to tour 5 different bar cafes in one afternoon. So come along and join us! Did we mention there will be beer, bitterballen and apple pie? #browncafes #Amsterdam #beerbars

Would be great if you could add the list of the names in the description (for this and other future recommendations) :) Great video!
Thank you for the comment.. But where would the fun be in that?
I crazy LOVE Amsterdam, I'll be back in November. Nothing I like more than spending a quiet afternoon in a brown café. Thank you and greetings from Montréal.
Hi Pierre, thank you for the comment. See you in November!
@@ACwebseries Thank you, I always visit Amsterdam in November, when in my opinion the city is at it's best.
Fantastic video. In one of my first visits to the Netherlands, about 15 years ago, we visited the 'Open Air Museum' in Arnhem where you can walk to exhibit after exhibit showcasing different parts of Dutch history. One was a recreated Amsterdam neighborhood, which used actual facades from an old neighborhood and featured a brown bar. I watched as my (Dutch) mother in law looked around like she was transported back in time in the best of ways. So glad to see these are being preserved. Next visit, I can see the real thing!
Thank you! One one hand, the brown bars are more old fashioned and younger people are finding different ways to spend their time. On the other hand, young locals like their retro feel and tourists like experiencing authentic Dutch things.
Owner handed it over to his son New Year’s Eve. Great night
I wonder how long the father owned it
That’s bullshit 🤣🤣🤣
Great video!
thank you Alvaro!
Monkey bar my local 😂
Thats a good one, a real pirate bar. parites used to come there, and bring a monkey to the bar. it,s still there(the monkey stuffed) on the door its says Anno 1522 500 years old place. its 50 meters from the Old docks, where the boats to new york city sailed. new Amsterdam it was called then.
