TASTING GENEVER in the OLDEST PUB of AMSTERDAM

Just 2-3 minutes walking distance from Amsterdam Central Station, there is an old sailor pub at Zeedijk (Street name). On this video, we go to that oldest pub of Amsterdam and we will try a genever while i tell you the stories about the place. Enjoy! #amsterdam

I'm surprised you did not talk about the proverb "de aap gelogeerd zijn" (literally "being lodged in the ape") which meant you did something very unlucky!
The legend about this proverb says that if you lodge at the ape (meaning this cafe, which also acts as a hostel for sailors) then you did something stupid which you will regret, and the regrettable things could be two things, you will be Shanghaied (crimped) meaning abducted to serve as a sailor on a ship. or secondly you will be infected with fleas. By the way the practice of having a beer with your jenever is called a "kopstootje", literally a small headbutt.

Last time I was in Amsterdam was 7 or so years ago and I looked up the oldest pub in Amsterdam to meet my friend and met him here! Very cool establishment indeed. The sailor stories really feed the imagination when having a drink here. I hope to go back to this pub one day. It looks likes they rearranged the interior a bit since I went.. or maybe my memory is not so good :P
