Girl in the books Mal has said some things that's just awful and it just reminds you again and again that he's just a kid. He's apologize over and over and fought for Alina countless of times. *So idk why😐 the Darklina shippers is continuing to ignore this* Also I love in the books, Leigh shows how he handles his traumatizing experiences too. Hopefully in the show it shows how he handles it too.

Ohhh Incase you didn't know🙈 that second kiss in war room when Darkling comes back and kisses her it wasn't in script it was something to ben added to show how Darkling felt for alina right before the reveal and the first kiss it was ben and Jessie's idea that ben sits in desk and give power to alina like she has the power of the situation and he's shook when she kisses him first and stands and says something sweet,love when actors understand the assignment and give fans every time💕🥺🥵🔥❤️

I totally agree, the fifth episode is my favorite! The way it ends is so perfect lmao and I love the Darklina moments even though Baghra had to come in right after and ruin it for me lol. And yeah, this show really made me love Mal. That whole part where he was like "You don't owe me any explanations" I was like book Mal could NEVER. Also, IS DAVID NOT THE MOST PRECIOUS??!! 🥺 I adore him.
Can't wait for the next reaction, but also kinda sad you're almost done with it all because then I have to go back to facing the fact that we're still waiting on a season 2 renewal 😭
From my understanding, the show really made an effort to give both Kirigan and Mal more likeable personalities - more understanding from Mal and more humanity from Kirigan. Which I appreciate because that way the love triangle seems more realistic in terms of Alina’a choice between them. And thank you so much! I’m sad too, but I’ve got more reaction for other shows on their way!!🥰
@@MonicaCatapusan Yes! I totally agree, a love triangle doesn't work if there's an obvious choice for Alina. Even if the audience thinks there's an obvious choice, if Alina isn't conflicted about it, there's no emotional payoff for us in the end.

Very accurate
One thing that really differentiated book Mal from show Mal is that each version "saw" Alina in a new light, differently. Book Mal was how you interpreted, that only after she became interested in other men, he finally "saw" her. Show Mal, its implied that he sees her now for her entire being. He never knew she was Grisha. They made a very subtle change where show Mal feels sorry that he never saw all the parts of Alina, not that he is finally interested because she is now desirable like book Mal.

The inferni (firebender) twin sister found out that inej killed her brother because inej was not able to collect her saint (knife) (cast your mind back to Kaz saying 'now get your saint and let's go' to Inej in the church in episode 5 but her being interrupted by the grisha entering the church) from the inferni twin brother's body. She saw the knife lodged in him, saw the knives on Inej, and sort of connected the dots.
i am the biggest darklina ANTI but i always say ep 5+6 are my faves… but it’s literally for the crows!! i could not care less about the dark lung and now i feel so awkward thinking everyone probs assumes i’m talking about *that* scene as my fave :/

I wish they were more episodes for the Series so we could spend more time developing General Kirigan's relationship with Alina they really needed more scenes of them pinning for each other before the Big Kiss or Kisses.
I could agree when i first watched but after i rewatched in one sitting the show i think it wasnt that bad. Just the right amount of build up.
I agree, the jump in their relationship between episodes 4 and 5 did feel quite drastic. But to my understanding episodes 3-5 were months apart, time cards would’ve been helpful potentially or just spending more time in developing the Darklina relationship

I am gonna defend book mal with my dying breath. he isn’t awful at all. he is essentially the same. people just failed to visualise what type of character he actually is and we’re too invested in the darkling’s storyline. book mal deserves rights 😤
as well as the books being written in alinas pov, so we only get to see how she interprets things and how she feels about things, so mals actions are only shown as how she sees them, and if she believes that something said or done by someone was meant to be rude or bad, we as the readers will believe that.
@@kyla6252 yessss!! my go-to example for this is when she gave mal the pin for her personal guard as a gift in the second book and was trying to gauge/ figure out his reaction and he hands it back to her and she immediately goes “im trying to hide my disappointment” in her internal monologue. but then mal says “put it on for me” and she gets happy again. so she first thought he didn’t want it but we don’t know what he is thinking or how he feels about anything. he doesn’t seem like the expressive type which is essentially what the fans want so they know what he’s trying to say. if we got his internal monologue it would be so obvious that he’s always only thinking about alina.

I hate how the show doesn't focus on kaz's phobiaI they just thought that everyone read the books so they would know i don't know if you noticed this but kaz can't touch people not even with his gloves on it's very hard for him to just shake hands with people so it was killing him to watch inej hurt and not being able to help
I think the reason is because it is a prequel (how do I even write that?) and they will focus on it later. For now I'm glad that he kept the gloves and didn't touch anyone. It's a good easter egg for those who read the books.
It’s the story of “Shadow and Bone” sadly so focus is on Alina. (As much as i wish Crows were the stars, I mean they still were 👀)
I’m Glad that Freddy showed whatever he could of the touch aversion. Like the scene where he looked disgusted and super Mad when Pekka’s Men were handling him, Inej was stabbed and he couldn’t help her up with Jesper and when she was stitching herself up.
I’m crossing my fingers for a Crows Show since now it’s all the prequel and we won’t get the actual info of these Characters since all of it is revealed in their Book🤞

Also, Alina is in the Little Palace for MONTHS training and getting to know Grisha life and combat, before anything happens between her and the Darkling. He is busy fighting a war in Ravka.
The Fjerdans in the North who kill or capture Grisha, and the Shu Han in the South who kidnap Grisha and do experiments on them. General Kirigan feels that it’s his responsibility to keep Grisha safe. Alina is the new girl, she’s more insecure in the books (also coz she’s younger in the books).

I really wish they would have let Alina and Kerrigan pan out their relationship maybe he could’ve changed his mind or idk a different outcome. I really like the chemistry between them two the most and found it more complex than with mal. I’d like to think Kerrigan wasn’t getting close to her to manipulate her I really think he liked her and valued her more ,though yes she has her powers, than mal ever did. Mal didn’t value even as a friend I feel like until she got taken away whereas Kerrigan and her were just starting to learn more of another.
With most people getting into watching this show because of Barnes, & with already such a split fandom that's heavily intrigued with the Darkling, (more now because of his awesome acting), i think it was a conscious decision to limit Kirigan's scenes in order to make people root for the others, esp. Mal (who and Alina, are all good & pretty but very boring, the most non boring thing they did was get their friends killed, but apparently that had no effect on their character development 🤦♀️).
No wonder they sledgehammered the quintessential YA tropes of hand holding, hand cutting, north & meadow talk!!!
For me as initially a non book reader, i thought Mal was gonna die every single episode; despite enjoying the characters didn't really like the crows because they were gonna abduct an innocent girl and sell her for money, something i don't yet understand how Inej was fine with since that's what happened to her and she was wanting to free another girl initially... 🤔
See that's not evil, evil can be deep & intriguing, that's just seemed petty....and odd coming from characters that definitely have great depth!

Sorry but the Darkling only wants Alina for her powers Nothing else ! He wouldn't even have looked at her if she didn't have powers! He is highly abusive, toxic and would have kept her as a trophy for GOD knows how long and used her up until she would have died!
Sorry, but it's pretty clear that he developed feelings for her (in his own way) along the way. One does not prevent the other.
The Darkling most definitely wouldn't have looked Twice at Alina if it wasn't for her powers and when their relationship began he was only manipulating her but eventually he developed feelings for her but he's still abusive, toxic and is more than willing to hurt Alina(Or anyone else for that matter Book readers know who) in order to achieve his goals. But even Ben Barnes stated the Books too that he believes his feelings for Alina are real.
@@angelazayn4878Completely agree with you. But compared to the book, it's clear the directors wanted to give Darkling more humanity. But I think every time he spoke with Alina there was an element of sincerity in his handling in a very subtle way.
Personally, the difference between that of the book and the series struck me. In the book, we can really doubt if he has feelings for Alina or not, because of his blatant lack of humanity. Although for me there are clues in the books that clearly show it. But in the series it is a thousand times more explicit and obvious thanks to the talent of actor of Ben Barnes to convey emotions on the face of the Darkling. I adore Darklina, and I will dream of a redemption for the Darkling, so that he can end with Alina. But that probably won't happen. And even if he doesn't end up with Alina, I don't want him to end up as a pure villain. I have hope for redemption. After Ben Barnes said that in the rest of the series, his character would not directly follow that of the books and would continue to show a more human side and how loneliness impacts it. We'll see how it goes.
