Somebody might have already commented this, but the popular theory for how Kaz disappeared was basically a large scale sleight of hand kind of trick using a flash bomb. Everybody thinks he literally just ducked around that corner and the Darkling was too stupid to check which fills me with glee.
Fans of the books practically begged for a Kaz vs Darkling interaction because it’s been a big debate among fans on who would win since they never interact in the books and we really didn’t think we’d get it. But I’m so happy we did! I really wanted Kaz to hit the Darkling with his cane but the scene was still iconic and I mean obviously Kaz outsmarted the Darkling Also fun fact Kaz’s cane is specially weighted for breaking bones
I really like how they did Matthias and Nina in the show. Also, as someone who has read the books, heartrenders have to physically see the target in order to stop a heart. Hearing a heartbeat...it basically means nothing other than being a lie detector and knowing that they are in the room.
It's funny the discussion about money because when the trailer came out all the readers were like "1 million is waaay to cheap for Kaz!" since in the first book he gets a heist job offer for 5 millions in the beggining and he doesn't accept it until they agree on 30 millions x)
I can’t wait for this!! Matthias in the books was a frustrating character at first and then I loved him as much as any other by the end! In the show he’s very sympathetic very quickly and his character arc is so so good, I love that you guys get to see that from him! Nina’s arc as well is just *chefs kiss*
The reason he's sympathetic is simply because they show the past events first, I'm sure that whenever they cover the Six of Crows plot in the show, he'll be the same like he was in that book initially. The only difference is that knowing what happens in the past makes his actions completely understandable.
@@erinsmith3071 No. Some shadow and bone characters are mentioned, but I read Six of Crows without reading shadow and bone, and I understood everything. It's basically a seperate story in the same universe.
This channel is like chicken soup for my soul. Absolutely hilarious. I only started watching 'Shadow & Bone' because you were reacting to it, and now I love it. Netflix needs to pay you for your advertising services.
To Rizzo’s comment, I think it’s hard for people who haven’t read the books to understand the emotional ties each character has to each other. Little nuances, like the lines between characters or the way they act/don’t act with each other, that really hit home for book readers might not come across for you both, since you don’t know the whole backstory. Especially since they are tying in the crows with the shadow and bone characters, you don’t get why kaz wears gloves or why Jesper is good with guns or why Inej and kaz don’t have a relationship like other characters because that backstory isn’t explored. So I do think the show does rush the emotional aspect that makes it hard for no book readers to really feel attached to these beloved characters.
I would say that the characters aren't rushed, moreso that the focus is on the S&B characters emotionally and that the crows backstories are hinted at with the hope that they can explore them in further seasons. Which I think is great for a better overarching story, afterall this IS the first season and you want more material to cover beyond the plot. That being said it does sacrifice the emotional connection non-readers may have as you said.
I really thought you guys would have used The Notebook reference for this episode with Mal and Alina screaming at each other about letters 😂 YoU wRoTE mE?! I WROTE YOU 365 LETTERS! I WROTE YOU EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR! 🤣
To be fair, they could have developed better our attachment to the characters - they focused SO much on the story that they forgot to showcase the essence of the characters. For us, book readers, is better this ways, because we already know that characters, but for non-readers, it is though to feel close to them. I would REALLY advise you to get into each character's wiki page to understand their background just a little more - it will make it much easier to feel a connection to them 💕
Yes but there are a lot of spoilers in the wiki page. And I think they will get more into the backstories in later seasons especially for the crows, they are hints so I'm sure they are going to do it but only the book readers get the hints right now ( and the viewers will only catch them if they do a re-watch after having their backstories I guess).
@@salamanderoffire7770 Good point , but aren't there some spoilers still in this part? (like how Kaz deals with what happened in CK ? ) plus I really think they are gonna get to the backgrounds in the next seasons so it's gonna spoil them of the reveal (especially for Kaz, I know I tried to guess what had happen to him with the hints in the books and when it was revealed it was not what I imagined at all so it was really a surprise). If they want to give up because they don't understand the dynamics it's worth getting a little bit spoiled though.
As someone who didn't read the books until after s1 (and even now only read the Crows Duology), I instantly attached myself to this characters. I think they are really well written and likable. And from what I'm hearing, Mal is more likable in the show? So I think I'll stick to the show but the Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom were great!
I died during the impression of the Darkling talking off into the distance to "everyone else". I never thought of it that way until now and I'll never be the same
You should honestly try to count how many enemies to lovers cliques are in the ice breaking scene between Nina and Matthias, there’s so many (stubborn about directions, saving the other person, giving the other their own coat, etc)
I think rizzo made a really good point about themes. I think the show kinda failed in that respect. They did too many things and that ultimately resulted in the show kinda struggling to find a solid message. It's a good watch but it does get to a point where it seems to lose itself and those who haven't read the books might find it difficult to remain invested
What you were saying about the plot and "a lot of things going on at once" makes sense since the show merged the Six of Crows Duology with the Shadow & Bone Trilogy. In the Grishaverse none of the characters from the 2 series meet, so this show was produced to combine the plot from Shadow & Bone and give us a backstory for the Six of Crows characters.

Basically Kaz Brekker has some intense trauma related to human physical contact so that's why he always uses gloves, also he is a very closed off, morally grey character but the things he does for Inej in the books are so cute. Inej was kidnapped at 12 years-old and sold into a s*x trafficking house called "The menagerie" where they fetishized the people working there and called them animal names because of their "exotic features", she also has a lot of trauma with that but she still finds a way to connect with faith and I think that's a very important part of he character. Jesper is bisexual and will get a love-interest in the 2 season (Wylan). So the books are divided into 3 series and stand-alones. The first trilogy is shadow & bone, seige & storm, and ruin & rising which follows the story of Alina as the sun summoner. Then the six of crows duology which involves a heist with the crows. And finally the king of scars duology which stars Zoya Nazyalensky and a male main character first introduced in the 2nd book of the trilogy.
