Her name is Tina Hawkim Baba and she's the only daughter of a Saudi Arabian oil sheik who sent his daughter to school in America because he was concerned about her safety!!
In the books, Joe and her bodyguard bond over their controversial stance on rubber bullets for crowd control. There is so much more but I was so sad Tina was left out of the movies.
Mia and Tina initially become friends because they are the only two girls in school who know what it's like to have a bodyguard follow them everywhere. But then Tina turns out to be awesome.

It's possible she was a minor princess of another European country, too far down the line of succession to have any chance of rule in her own country, maybe? Then she could still be a princess, but only a Genovian royal by marriage?
Spoilers for sequel: It's actually really sad that even Mia wasn't actually meant to rule by herself, but the queen just wanted to keep the family in line and the only one in their family who could somewhat rule was Mia since she's a direct descendent of the king. Mia currently still has to marry to be queen, but her grandma didn't mention that for obvious reasons. That's also why the 2 grumps always talk about being royalty soon, because if Mia doesn't accept and start husband hunting the Government will vote for a new royal family.
For the Prequel: Paolo was hired by the family that wants to regain power. He's to get close to the royal family and find stuff to get their position challenged. That's why he would try to help Felipe (Mia's dad) run away.

Willie Brown was the mayor of San Franciso, where the movie was set and shot. He was known for portraying himself in films and TV and this was one of his more memorable cameos.
He was mayor for 8 years directly after being in the State Assembly for 30 years, the last 15 as Speaker. Pretty famous back in the day.

The "It happens all the time" line was a reference to Pretty Woman, probably because both Joe and Paulo were in that movie and it had a similar makeover to classy lady type premise. If you haven't seen it, it stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere (1990- so basically still the 80s) and it's honestly a great classic romcom! Highly recommend :)

About genovia ceasing to exist if Amelia doesn't accept the throne:
There is a tiny principality in southern Europe called Monaco, which is ruled by a family called Grimaldi. This tiny nation had a pact/agreement(?) signed in 1918 with France, with whom it shares its only border, that if the the Grimaldis cease to exist then Monaco will be absorbed into France. That is, if the house of Grimaldi has to heir to sit in the Monegasque throne, it will cease to exist as an independent nation, abd become part of the French republic.
This pact was however later revoked in 2002.

the impact the princess diaries movies(especially this one)has on my life and my childhood, I wish I was exaggerating, I can quote it from beginning to end, so I only watch it by myself. I remember coming home from school every day for weeks straight an watching it 3x. Anne is just so beautiful and Julie ✋ don’t even get me started this comment is already to long

20:16 In the first book she told Mia that they need to work on her inability to say no to people (specifically her grandma) and Mia just kept thinking 'I'm saying no to her right now'. Lily was annoyed with her for not working on her "expose" over the Ho's - a couple who run a Chinese takeaway place near the school. She did a segment for them on her show 'Lily Tells It Like It Is' and called for a boycott on them on the grounds that they were racist against non-Asians. Her reason? Someone she knew from school ordered the same thing she did but she was charged 5 cents more, and Mrs Ho pretended not to understand English that well when Lily asked her about it. Lily said, both in private to Mia and on her tv show, that 5 cent extra charging is how things like the Holocaust and other examples of genocide start. I'm still just thinking 'You're seriously saying that being charged 5 cents extra for some takeaway is the same as some of the greatest atrocities committed in human history?'
Michael reckoned it was just "vanity run amok".
She tried to stage a protest in school because she got a bad mark for a paper she wrote on the social hierarchy of the school (from what I remember it wasn't that well written and Mia's topic on the moral dilemma of chopping down trees for Christmas does sound more interesting) and pressured Mia to take part in it even though Mia couldn't afford to skip that class, and Mia ended up pulling the fire alarm because she got so stressed about it.
She had a boyfriend in the first few books called Boris but she dumped him for someone else, then dumped the other guy for selling his life story to a tv channel, then when Boris started dating another friend of hers and Mias she accused that friend of 'stealing her man'.
And when a guy she had a crush on started going out with Mia (after she and Michael had broken up for a bit though it turns out this new guy was only with her because she was a princess) and told Lily to get off Mia's back she started a website called 'ihatemiathemopolis' and when one of her friends called her out on it she laughed and told her 'don't be such a Mia'.
Lily is kind of a lousy friend and I don't think she's that good of a person either.

Recently found out that the Baroness (creepy-looking, salty lady that wanted Mia's princess title) played the Nun in the Conjuring universe....so she definitely had it in her, knew I recognized that face & ran to imdb it.

Hmmmmm even if they didn't intend it, it does give a little bit of a queer story. Finding out something new about yourself that makes people have a lot of opinions about you and how you should be. Plus the stuff I mentioned above.

I also think she looked fine before the makeover, I actually prefer the before look but then growing up I wanted to look like Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves movie.

This is the best one yet, we need the prequel. I’ve never laughed so hard in awhile.
As much as I love the prequel idea for, "Call Me Joe," the Queen wasn't born into the royal family of Genovia. She married the King. She explains that she's basically a figurehead because she wasn't born royal but Mia, because she was, can actually rule. It's a weird detail that I'm not sure why they added in the movie as it doesn't really add anything to the story. Maybe Joe fell in love with Clarice when King Rupert was searching for a suitable bride sort of like how Mia searches in the second movie? He's running background checks and falls in love with her because of what he sees and, along with Paolo, tries to steer the King towards another eligible woman but King Rupert doesn't care for how Paolo makes her up for him and he chooses Clarice.
Yea we missed that but that would explain why Clarisse had to give up the throne when Mia was old enough not after her death
Killing eve is so good. Sandra Oh is the main character and there is gayness and murder because Sandra's character is hunting down a serial killer.

I’m literally Benji rn, I had a huge crush on Erik von Detten🥵 ‘fanfiction’ does not do your prequel justice- Paolo is usually kind of a thorn in Joe’s side, but once or twice Paolo’s con is nearby Joe’s spy targets & has helped him escape or hide in a tight spot. Maybe the black leather jacket belonged to Joe’s dad, who trained him as a spy & died saving Clarisse’s husband, which only makes Joe’s feelings about her husband even MORE complicated even though he knows it’s their purpose as guards it still hurts to lose his dad!!! And he doesn’t feel worthy of his dad’s leather jacket yet so he doesn’t wear it (at this point only his pants are black). Later in the story, Paolo & Joe are in a tight situation together (maybe framed for murder or embezzlement?) and Joe is like, the lowest we’ve seen him yet. Paolo (original name Paul obvs) picks up the jacket- Joe doesn’t stop him or react to show how low his spirit is. Paolo praises the jacket, finds a little leather cleaner and gently wipes it down. Then he puts it on Joe, adjusting it, straightening the shoulders and the collar, and he tells Joe that Joe is still the man his father knew him to be. Joe slowly looks up and across the room to a mirror and sees himself- beaten but not broken. He stands up, settles the jacket more comfortably, and says, “I think I have a plan.”

I think Clarisse looked for Mia because there wasn't a direct Renaldi heir after her son died. Clarisse implied that she married into the Renaldi line. She was regent until Mia came of age. This also implies either Clarisse met Joe during her engagement or they were childhood friends and Joe became security to follow Clarisse. Clarisse and the King were implied to be best friends. But she loved Joe.
I read on Internet and in the book, the father is still alive but had a testicles' cancer who made him infertile.
But yes, in the movie, Mia is the only direct heir

Here’s my headcanon, inspired by what you guys already said - if we’re going with the notion that he’s a man of the people with a dark past, maybe he got involved with some radicals who tried to plot a coup or something, and he cut some kind of deal where instead of going to jail, he’d work to protect the royal family.
He’d never be caught dead working for the enemy, but I’d say he takes the deal because he has someone to protect - a niece, an aunt, a grandmother, or otherwise someone really important to him. So we have this complicated man, taking a job against his beliefs to stay close to someone he loves. And to top it all off, he starts to fall for high-born Clarisse, turning all of this into enemies to lovers! It’s JUICY y’all… Call Me Joe needs to happen ❤

If there is no direct heir of the Monégasque Throne the whole country of Monaco will be no longer a independent nation and becomes automatically a part of France
EDIT: they changed the law in 2002, two years after the movie was made and one Year after the premiere in cinemas
